8th grade pizza assignment

Students at a Connecticut middle school were reportedly instructed to use “pizza as a metaphor for sex” and asked to cite their favorite toppings — including cheese for “kissing” and olives for “giving oral.”

The eighth-graders at John F. Kennedy Middle School in Enfield received the “Pizza and Consent” assignment, which compared ordering a pizza to receiving consent, Fox News reported .

“We can use pizza as a metaphor for sex,” the assignment said, according to Parents Defending Education .

“When you order pizza with your friends, everyone checks in about each other’s preferences, right? Some people might be vegan, some might be gluten-free. Others might love pineapple, while others prefer pepperoni,” it said.

“Some might not like pizza at all. If you’re a vegetarian, your friend is a meat lover, sharing a pizza is going to bring up a lot of issues. You don’t know who you can share a pizza with unless you ask!” it continued.

The assignment used pizza and toppings as metaphors for sex acts.

“The same goes with sex! You have to check in with your partner(s) and ask for their preferences. Your partner(s) might be comfortable with one sexual activity, but not another,” the instructions stated.

“So start a conversation! It’s the only way sex (and pizza) can be comfortable and enjoyable for everyone,” it insisted.

The bizarre assignment then continued on another page, under the headline “Personal Pizza.”

'It was a mistake,' Superintendent Christopher Drezek said of the assignment.

“Now that you know this metaphor for sex, let’s explore your preferences! Draw and color your favorite type of pizza. What’s your favorite style of pizza? Your favorite toppings? What are your pizza no-nos?” it read.

“Now mirror these preferences in relation to sex! Here are some examples: Likes: Cheese = Kissing Dislikes: Olives = Giving Oral,” the students were told.

“Obviously, you might not be able to list all of your wants, desires, and boundaries, but hopefully you’ll start feeling more comfortable about discussing them,” the instructions continued.

“For those of ya’ll who don’t like pizza or sex at all, feel free to draw out another food favorite or include non-sexual activities,” it added.

Schools Superintendent Christopher Drezek said during a school board meeting Tuesday that the assignment had been sent “inadvertently” to the students, Fox News reported.

“The simple truth was it was a mistake. And I know that there are some who may not believe that. I know there are some who don’t necessarily maybe want that answer,” he told parents.

Parents appear at a meeting to discuss the controversial documents.

“In this particular case, I didn’t even get a chance to because the person who made the mistake jumped ahead of it before I was even notified that it had happened,” Drezek said. He said that while the assignment was “inappropriate,” there was no “hidden agenda.” “There was no secret cabal to indoctrinate kids on something. They sent the wrong document,” Drezek added. “So that’s what happened. And none of us are happy that it happened.”

The school claimed there was no 'hidden agenda' to the bizarre worksheets.

Teacher Brie Quartin, the district’s health and physical education coordinator, took the blame for the imbroglio.

“The incorrect version, as opposed to the revised version of this assignment, was mistakenly posted on our Grade 8 curriculum page, and was inadvertently used for instruction to Grade 8 Health classes,” Quartin wrote in an email to parents, according to Parents Defending Education.

“I caught the error after our curriculum revision in June but failed to post the intended version. I own that, and apologize for the error,” she wrote.

Parent Tracey Jarvis said the assignment was prompting kids to become sexually active 'before their time.'

Quartin explained that the correct version of the assignment was for “students to work in small groups to craft a pizza with toppings (no behaviors associated with said toppings) that would make everyone happy/comfortable using non-verbal communication only.”

“Students are then asked to reflect and discuss how thoughts or feelings can be confusing or miscontrued [sic], if we rely on non-verbal cues/communication alone. The parallel to be taught here is that when discussing pizza topping it is important that your preferences are clearly communicated to avoid any misunderstanding,” she added.

Parent Tracey Jarvis told NBC Connecticut : “This assignment is prompting kids to become sexually active before their time.”

Another parent, Marcie Talizeo, said the assignment was 'obviously' inappropriate but not 'intended to cause harm.'

Another parent, Marcie Talizeo, told the outlet that “this particular assignment was obviously not appropriate but it was not intended to cause harm to any child.”

Pizza-Based Sex Class In Enfield Middle School Causes Outrage

Here is the complete text of the assignment, the teaching of which was said to be a mistake..

Controversy surrounding an assignment received by an 8th-grade Family Health and Human Sexuality class in Enfield, said to be "an inadvertent mistake" by a teacher, has created divisiveness in the community, and led to a volatile school board meeting.

ENFIELD, CT — An assignment called "Pizza & Consent" which was given to eighth-grade Family Health and Human Sexuality students at John F. Kennedy Middle School has outraged some, despite assurances from Superintendent of Schools Chris Drezek that the distribution of the assignment "was a mistake" that was immediately reported to officials by the teacher involved.

A group of concerned, and in some cases angry, residents flooded Enfield's town hall during Tuesday night's Board of Education meeting to refute Drezek's claim, and to criticize an apology he made to the teacher, who he said has been the subject of physical threats and been called a pedophile.

Here is the complete text from the 2-page assignment obtained from Parents Defending Education , a national grassroots organization which, its website states, is "working to reclaim our schools from activists promoting harmful agendas."

Enthusiastic It's a genuine "YES" and a strong want and desire from all involved.
Fluid It's active and collaborative and can be given or taken away at any time.
Respectful It's all about communicating, respecting boundaries, and constantly checking in.
Required It's required before and during any sexual or sensual activity!
What's pizza got to do with it?
We can use pizza as a metaphor for sex! When you order pizza with your friends, everyone checks in about each other's preferences, right? Some people might be vegan, some might be gluten-free. Maybe your partner(s) only want to be touched a certain way, or maybe your partner(s) prefer to use certain language. Or maybe they don't like or want sex at all. You'll never know if your wants, desires, and boundaries are compatible with theirs unless you ask.
So start a conversation! It's the only way sex (and pizza) can be comfortable and enjoyable for everyone.
Personal Pizza
Now that you know this metaphor for sex, let's explore your preferences! Draw and color your favorite type of pizza. What's your favorite style of pizza? Your favorite toppings? On its website, Parents Defending Education said a parent received the following email from Brie Quartin, health and physical education coordinator for the Enfield Public Schools:

"The incorrect version, as opposed to the revised version of this assignment was mistakenly posted on our grade 8 curriculum page, and was inadvertently used for instruction to grade 8 Health classes. I caught the error after our curriculum revision in June, but failed to post the intended version. I own that, and apologize for the error. The parallel to be taught here is that when discussing pizza topping it is important that your preferences are clearly communicated to avoid any misunderstanding. This discussion then leads into how students can identify when consent it either present or not."

Sophia Arel read the "Pizza & Consent" document during the public communication portion of Tuesday's meeting, then added, "Does that make you feel uncomfortable? Does that make you cringe? Would you like to share your sexual preferences with a roomful of people? Imagine how a 13-year-old kid would feel. It's inappropriate. Keep this garbage out of our schools and let kids be kids."

Arel then turned to Drezek and said, "And you made an apology to the teacher who 'made a mistake.' But what about an apology to the students who received the assignment? What about that? What a cowardly and weak response."

Just prior to public comments, a woman walked up to the speakers' table carrying several pizza boxes. She was escorted from the hall.

Tracy Jarvis, pastor of Enfield's New Day Church, made the most impassioned comments of all speakers, published here in their entirety.

"I know the board would choose to move from this pizza assignment at JFK, but the parents do not. I understand that it was stated that this assignment was accidentally given in its entirety and page 1 was the intentional assignment. My page 1 takeaways are, "I don't know who I can have sex with unless I ask," "I need to know my sexual partner's wants," "Do they want oral sex, where do they want to be touched, if they want to hear dirty words, do they want to do all things or just some things" and "I need to start being comfortable talking about sex for the purpose of fun." I'd like the board to tell us how this is teaching responsibility, self-control and social skills and decision-making, because that's what was spoken that this assignment was. This assignment is prompting kids to become sexually active before their time. You don't even know how to navigate platonic relationships well, so why introduce sexual relationships? 13-year-olds don't have sexual preferences; sexual preferences come with sexual maturity. So now we're to insist our kids come to the fullness of their sexuality at age 13? We should not be encouraging youth to explore each other's bodies with multiple partners in an open environment for any reason. If somebody is doing that or asking them to do that, they should be taught to tell a responsible adult, who then reports it. This assignment is normalizing and encouraging youth to be sexually promiscuous and deviant. I understand we need to teach kids boundaries, but you are giving them way more information than they are psychologically ready to handle at this age. By doing this, you open up doors for them to have partners who are older than them, increasing statutory situations. You open up doors for abusive family members and grown-ups in their lives. I understand there is a segment of society that have major traumatic sexual issues within their history. I too long to resource them. However, choosing to reform a child who was sodomized at age 11 that they can stand for themselves and choose to give oral instead is appalling. Are public schools now running programs for sexually abused children at the expense of the unviolated? Are we now hypersexualizing every youth because some are hurting? All youth need a safe haven from our overtly sexualized culture. I have poured 10 years of my life into building an environment where youth can be healthy and have healthy communities. We teach Enfield children self-respect, self-control and self-denial. I will continue to expand my energy to resource this community, and I ask that you do the same. Take a deeper look; are there more assignments that have the potential to corrupt the morals of our minors? It's really your job to know. This has gone too far, and we parents are not fed like they're intimidated to stand for what we believe in. We will fight for the purity and protection of our children."

Several other residents offered opposing viewpoints. Liz Davis denounced the proliferation of "conspiracy theories" being put forth on social media, even accusing several school board members of taking part.

"We've got the best teachers in this state; we've got the best superintendent in this state," she said. "I'm done with people disrespecting them, and I'm really done with elected officials that are behind this. Do what's right by all these kids, or step the hell down."

When reached by Patch Thursday, Drezek would not comment further on the matter.

Connecticut School Asked Eighth Graders to List Sexual Preferences during Lesson on Consent

Parents in Enfield, Conn. are outraged after a health class assignment asked eighth graders to list their sexual likes and dislikes and boundaries, according to a new report.

Documents obtained by the nonprofit group Parents Defending Education show students were subjected to a lesson called “Pizza & Consent” that told students, “we can use pizza as a metaphor for sex!”

“If you’re a vegetarian, but your friend is a meat-lover, sharing a pizza is going to bring up a lot of issues. You don’t know who you can share pizza with unless you ask!” the assignment said. “The same goes with sex! You have to check in with your partner(s) and ask for their preferences.”

The assignment features a blank pizza with space to share pizza preferences “in relation to sex.” Pizza toppings were likened to sexual likes and dislikes. The assignment used “kissing” and “giving oral” as examples of toppings students could choose for their pizza.

“Obviously, you might not be able to list all of your wants, desires and boundaries, but hopefully you’ll start feeling more comfortable about discussing them,” the assignment read.

Brie Quartin, the district’s health and physical education coordinator, reportedly told concerned parents that the incorrect version of the assignment was mistakenly used.

“The incorrect version, as opposed to the revised version of this assignment was mistakenly posted on our grade 8 curriculum page, and was inadvertently used for instruction to grade 8 Health classes,” she said, according to Parents Defending Education. “I caught the error after our curriculum revision in June, but failed to post the intended version. I own that, and apologize for the error.”

She went on to explain that the “correct version” of the assignment would have had students work in small groups to craft a pizza with toppings — though no behaviors would have been associated with the toppings – that would make everyone happy and comfortable using non-verbal communication only.

She adds: “Students are then asked to reflect and discuss how thoughts or feelings can be confusing or miscontrued [sic], if we rely on non-verbal cues/communication alone. The parallel to be taught here is that when discussing pizza topping it is important that your preferences are clearly communicated to avoid any misunderstanding. This discussion then leads into how students can identify when consent it either present or not.”

However, at least one parent questioned how a teaching “accidentally asks for the personal sexual preferences of 8th graders without any indication it is completely inappropriate to do such a thing.”

The school quickly removed the assignment from its website. After the district prevented parents from attending school board meetings in-person — citing mask compliance as the reason for the shift to Zoom meetings — several parents posted video statements on YouTube to call attention to the issue.

8th grade pizza assignment

Family Health and Human Sexuality Lesson for 8th graders uses pizza to teach consent; asks students to list their sexual likes and dislikes as if they are pizza toppings and uses “kissing” and “giving oral” as examples

  • Enfield Public Schools - Connecticut

Parents in Enfield, Connecticut are raising serious concerns about a recent assignment given to 8th grade students that uses pizza as a metaphor for sex and compares pizza toppings to sexual likes and dislikes. It cites “kissing” and “giving oral” as examples of pizza toppings and then asks students to list their sexual likes and dislikes and boundaries.

The assignment is entitled “Pizza & Consent” and literally says at the beginning, “we can use pizza as a metaphor for sex!”

According to parents who contacted us, the school quickly removed the assignment from their website.

Brie Quartin, the district’s Health and Physical Education Coordinator, offered this explanation and apology in an email to at least one parent who raised concerns:

The incorrect version, as opposed to the revised version of this assignment was mistakenly posted on our grade 8 curriculum page, and was inadvertently used for instruction to grade 8 Health classes. I caught the error after our curriculum revision in June, but failed to post the intended version. I own that, and apologize for the error. The correct version of the assignment is for students to work in small groups to craft a pizza with toppings (no behaviors associated with said toppings) that would make everyone happy/comfortable using non-verbal communication only. Students are then asked to reflect and discuss how thoughts or feelings can be confusing or miscontrued [sic], if we rely on non-verbal cues/communication alone. The parallel to be taught here is that when discussing pizza topping it is important that your preferences are clearly communicated to avoid any misunderstanding. This discussion then leads into how students can identify when consent it either present or not.

Another parent told us, “I’m not sure how a teacher accidentally asks for the personal sexual preferences of 8th graders without any indication it is completely inappropriate to do such a thing?”

Because parents were not allowed to attend the school board meeting in person where they would have spoken about this, they took to YouTube to respond to the board. The district cited mask compliance as the reason for the shift to zoom meetings.

Below are two of those videos:

The father in the second video talks about the pizza assignment and reads contradictory statements made by school officials. He also shares specific concerns about assignments and handouts in other classes in the district.

The pizza assignment has a part at the end that says:

For those of ya’ll who don’t like pizza or sex at all, feel free to draw out another food favorite or include non-sexual activities.

This is wonderfully organised! Great job!

The answer key for the reading comprehension worksheet named “A Respectable Woman” is wrong for Problem 1. I think the correct answer should be A instead of C.

An excellent job

This is the best educational website ever for all EFL students around the world.

Thank you so much!

Yeah, those vary and should be evaluated more openly.

We can talk about any of them though, if you have a question or want to bounce your ideas off someone.

I think this site is fantastic and it’s easy to use 🙂 It’s nice that for the reading comprehension worksheets there are multiple choice and long response questions, as students need practice answering harder questions.

I teach a nursing assistant course. I came across your very helpful site while looking for a way to determine incoming students’ reading comprehension level. What grade would they have to score to be considered competent at that grade level? Thanks!

These worksheets shouldn’t really be used to evaluate a student’s reading level. Rather, they should be used with students whose reading levels are known. If you know that a student is reading at a 6th-10th grade level, these 8th grade worksheets are probably appropriate for him or her. I’m sorry that I currently have no diagnostic test available. Perhaps I will devise one someday. Best wishes!

Thank you Made it very easy to find anwsers to my work

Yeah, this is an interesting situation.

I’ve thought about putting up a 99 cent annual paywall over the answer keys to prevent students from accessing them, but decided that it was a bad idea.

Mainly because motivated students use the site too, as well as cheaters, and shouldn’t motivated students be able to check their work?

Not to mention that a resourceful student can always use the Internet to find the answers to their homework and “workaround” the learning experience, so to speak.

I’m all for making it harder for cheaters, but not to the point where it cripples the learning experiences of those with sincere intentions.

Any one else have any thoughts on this?

I just have to echo all the comments here. This is THE most helpful site I have ever found for teaching reading comprehension at a variety of levels. These are not boring and are not so extensive as to intimidate reluctant readers. You are an absolute life saver!!! Thank you!

I appreciate your echoes. Thank you for visiting and I hope that I can continue to an asset to you in the coming years.

AWESOME stuff here!!! I am excited to be able to use this material for my low level 9th graders. Interesting passages with appropriate questions. Hoping they will have interest in improving their reading scores. Older new teacher here – thanks for all of your hard work and dedication.

You are most welcome. Thank you for taking the time to comment.

A Pizza Lesson Plan That Brings Pizazz to Your Classroom

Pizza in the Classroom

The delicious combination of dough, sauce, cheese and toppings brings a smile to any child’s face. Pizza is one of foods children love. This October let your students experience some hot pizza fun not just in the lunchroom but in the classroom too.

  • Find Italy on a world map
  • Name where pizza originated from
  • Correctly sequence steps to make a pizza while making a real mini pizza
  • Demonstrate how to make fractions using pizza and toppings with 80 percent accuracy
  • Recognize simple fractions with 85 percent accuracy
  • Demonstrate knowledge of place value to the tenths place with 90 percent accuracy
  • Correctly identify adjectives with 75 percent accuracy

Where Did Pizza Come From?

Begin the lesson with a riddle.

I was first discovered in Naples Italy.

I am chewy and hot and kids like me a lot.

You roll me out of dough, don’t you know.

You can put any toppings you want on me.

Some suggested answers could be:

After allowing the students to guess pizza, show them world map and ask a volunteer to find Italy. Point out that Italy is a peninsula because it is a piece of land almost entirely surrounded by water and connected to a larger piece of land.

Explain that pizza first originated in Naples, Italy in the early 1889 when a baker tried to make a food using the same colors as the Italian flag. The flag is red, white and green. If possible, show students a picture of the flag.

The baker used red tomatoes, white mozzarella cheese and green basil leaves and that is how pizza was first created. The word pizza means “pie” in Italian. Today pizza is one of America’s favorite foods. Ask children what their favorite kind of pizza is. Read “ Little Nino’s Pizzeria ,” by Karen Barbour.

Pizzeria Place Value Center

Make your classroom look and feel like an Italian Pizzeria while students are learning place value skills at centers. Kids will love pretending to be the bakers and customers of a pizza parlor while they are practicing important math skills.

  • Ten pizza boxes
  • Nine single pieces of pizza cut from construction paper and laminated

What to do:

Purchase (or ask to have them donated) ten pizza boxes and write “ten pieces of pizza,” on the each box with a black marker. Cut-out nine pizza slices from construction paper, laminate the slices, and place them in the pizza parlor.

Place two students at a time at the pizza parlor place value station. One child will order a certain number of pieces of pizza and the other student must give him or her the correct number of boxes and pieces. For example, the student would ask for 45 or 14 pieces of pizza. The baker would hand the customer four boxes and five single pieces (45) or one box and four single pieces (14).

Pizza Parlor Make Me a Pizza Center

Children learn fractions while pretending to make pizzas for customers.

  • 8 pizza cut-outs
  • Several topping cut-outs

Instructions:

Provide pizza cut-outs and toppings for the fraction center. The student pretending to be the customer will order a certain number of pieces of pizza and instruct the baker to put a certain topping on so many of the pieces.

For example, a child may ask for five pieces of pizza with pepperoni on thee of the pieces. The baker will put five pieces of pizza in a pizza box and place pepperoni on three of the pieces. Both children will then write the correct fraction on a whiteboard and compare answers. The teacher walks around the room and checks for correct answers.

Children learn the steps it takes to make a real pizza while enjoying a tasty, yummy snack.

Ingredients:

  • Pizza sauce
  • Mozzarella cheese
  • Canadian bacon
  • Foam bowls to place the ingredients in
  • Cookie sheet

How to Make:

Give each child a biscuit and encourage them to roll it out as flat as possible, and place the sauce and the desired ingredients on the dough. The teacher bakes the pizza in the oven set at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 8 to 10 minutes or until the cheese is melted.

After the students are finished eating, have them write down the steps involved in creating their pizza and draw a picture of their pizza with crayons on a white piece of paper.

For example:

  • Pat the biscuit until it is flat.
  • Put two tablespoons of pizza sauce on the dough.
  • Add pepperoni, mushrooms and peppers.
  • Sprinkle with Mozzarella cheese.
  • Bake in the oven at 400 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes.

Parts of Speech Pie

Pizza 002

Children review the parts of speech with this pizza activity. The teacher will give each student four pizza slices cut from white construction paper.

Students copy the sentences and fill in the blanks with an adjective , verb, noun or adverb from the word bank.

They may use more than one adjective and noun on two of the pizza cut-outs. Decorate the pizzas with crayons and markers. When finished, the teacher can place them around the room or on the bulletin board to give the classroom pizazz!

  • Pizza is _________. (adjective)
  • I like to put _________on my pizza. (noun)
  • I _________ the dough. (verb)
  • I eat my pizza __________. (adverb)

Adjectives:

  • Scrumptious

This October, cook up some fun in your classroom with a scrumptious pizza lesson plan that reinforces important math and language skills. Children will love making and eating pizza while they are learning important facts about one of America’s favorite foods.

‘Health’ Assignment For 8th Graders Has Them Share Sexual Desires In The Form Of Pizza Toppings

You may never look at a Little Caesar’s menu the same way ever again.

Parents and students in Enfield, Connecticut were shocked when a recent assignment about pizza toppings made its way into a health class at John F. Kennedy Middle School.

The hand-out used pizza toppings as a metaphor to “explore your preferences” when it comes to sexual acts.

The instructions said, “Draw and color your favorite type of pizza. What’s your favorite style of pizza? Your favorite toppings? What are your pizza no-nos? Now mirror these preferences in relation to sex!”

It gave examples — “Likes: Cheese = Kissing. Dislikes: Olives = Giving oral.”

Both students and parents were stunned. Some students had no idea what some of the terms meant.

One parent whose 13-year-old son was in the offending health class in December told DailyMail.com she was mortified when she asked her boy how his day went and he explained the hidden meanings of pepperoni and olives. ‘When he told me about it, I was absolutely shocked,’ the mother, who asked not to be identified, said. ‘He’s 13 years old! What gives teachers the right to have that conversation with our children?’ Her son told DailyMail.com that he didn’t even know the meaning of the word ‘oral’ before that class. ‘I didn’t know what it meant so I looked it up on my school iPad,’ the boy said, sheepishly. ‘I just sort of laughed. I was surprised.’

8th grade pizza assignment

When a group of parents contacted the district’s Health and Physical Education Coordinator, Brie Quartin, she responded in an email that the assignment was posted in “error.”

‘The incorrect version, as opposed to the revised version of this assignment was mistakenly posted on our grade 8 curriculum page, and was inadvertently used for instruction to grade 8 Health classes,’ Quartin wrote in the email, which was posted on the parent group’s website. ‘I caught the error after our curriculum revision in June but failed to post the intended version. ‘The correct version of the assignment is for students to work in small groups to craft a pizza with toppings (no behaviors associated with said toppings) that would make everyone happy/comfortable using non-verbal communication only,’ Quartin added. ‘Students are then asked to reflect and discuss how thoughts or feelings can be confusing or miscontrued [sic], if we rely on non-verbal cues/communication alone. The parallel to be taught here is that when discussing pizza topping it is important that your preferences are clearly communicated to avoid any misunderstanding. This discussion then leads into how students can identify when consent is either present or not.’

Some parents are skeptical that it was a mistake.

Giselle Moore, a member of the group that had contacted Quartin isn’t buying it. She told the Daily Mail, “This went all the way down the chain of command.” She added, “I find this all very disturbing. This is stuff that would normally be discussed in a safe place in the home. This is not the school’s job to talk to children about explicit sexual behavior. The school is just normalizing this behavior, hypersexualizing children.”

Another mother, Sophia Arel, whose child is in the 8th grade at JFK Middle School, has pulled her daughter out of health class this semester. She’s concerned about what else is in there that hasn’t yet been exposed. Arel says that there is a place in public schools for learning about sex and consent, but this goes way too far.

‘They removed that part of the assignment, but I don’t know what else is going to slip through the cracks,’ she told DailyMail.com. ‘It’s vulgar and it’s just inappropriate. First of all, you’re 13, and you don’t even know your sex preferences yet. And when these kids answer these questions, where does that information get shared? Who’s interested?’ ‘I don’t think there’s anything wrong with learning about sex and consent at all,’ Arel added. ‘When I was young, we learned about the basics like contraception and things like that. But we weren’t being asked what our preferences were and do we dislike giving oral. It’s just so weird. My husband, when he learned about this, he was like ”I wish there was the pizza assignment when we were kids.” He was joking, but was actually really pissed.’ Source: Daily Mail

Christopher Drezek, Enfield Public Schools Superintendent, insisted on Tuesday at a school board meeting that it was an honest mistake.

“The simple truth was it was a mistake. And I know that there are some who may not believe that. I know there are some who don’t necessarily maybe want that answer,” said Drezek. “In this particular case, I didn’t even get a chance to because the person who made the mistake jumped ahead of it before I was even notified that it had happened.”

I don’t know about you, but I still have questions…

How did the teacher not notice that this hand-out was vastly different from the one intended?

Do they not check what’s written on the sheet before giving it to students? Isn’t that part of their lesson prep?

It’s quite possible that the hand-out was a more explicit version of the one intended, but… it’s clearly been created for a fairly young group of students in mind. Are high school kids going to be coloring in a pizza? It seems unlikely.

Why would minors be asked to fill out what their sexual preferences are for a school assignment?

What kind of groomer comes up with these sorts of “health” lessons?

That is the real issue here.

There is a concerted effort in public schools to shape behavior in a way that is antithetical to conservative values and Christian beliefs.

Raise your kids right, and get them the hell out of public schools.

Raising Boys Feminists Will Hate

8th grade pizza assignment

Parent, if you have a young son and you want him to grow up to be a man, then you need to keep him away from pop culture, public school and a lot of Nancy Boy churches. If metrosexual pop culture, feminized public schools and the effeminate branches of evanjellycalism lay their sissy hands on him, you can kiss his masculinity good-bye because they will morph him into a dandy. Yeah, mom and dad, if – if – you dare to raise your boy as a classic boy in this castrated epoch, then you’ve got a task that’s more difficult than getting a drunk to hit the urinal at Chili’s. Read this bold and hard-hitting guide by Doug Giles, the politically incorrect master, on how to raise your son in a world which more and more seems to hate masculinity.

This 2nd Grade Class Picked One of the Best March Madness Brackets in the Nation

8th grade pizza assignment

  • Share article

What are the odds that a class of 2nd graders filled out a better March Madness bracket than you?

Surprisingly good, actually.

Like more than 23 million other people, the 18 2nd grade students in Matt Falcone’s class at Olive Chapel Elementary School in Apex, N.C., filled out an NCAA basketball tournament bracket in early March. But while millions of people watched their picks lose and their brackets get busted, Falcone’s students spent the next three weeks watching their bracket rise in the rankings—all the way up to fifth place in the entire country on ESPN’s bracket leaderboard for the men’s tournament .

“It really was a shock for all of us,” Falcone said Wednesday in an interview with Education Week. “This thing that I thought was just going to be a little fun turned out to be super duper amazing—more than I ever expected.”

Of the 61 matchups in the bracket, the class picked 49 right, and nearly all of the games they got wrong were in the tournament’s opening round.

There was no science or trick to the kid’s picks, Falcone said. It was much the opposite, actually.

For each game, Falcone asked the group to, with a show of hands, choose between the two teams. Whichever one received the majority of the votes advanced in the bracket.

Usually, students picked local teams, like Duke and North Carolina State, or their parents’ alma maters. Sometimes, they chose the team with the better mascot. To break the few ties that happened, Falcone simply flipped a coin.

“It really came down to just a vibe check, like, what is everyone feeling like going with, and when we were done, I looked at it and was like, ‘This is definitely a bracket made by 2nd graders,’ but it didn’t matter, it will still be fun,” Falcone said. “Then, it just kept being right and moving up and up in the rankings.”

Olive Chapel is a year-round elementary school in the Wake County public school system, so instead of one long summer break, students are dismissed for shorter breaks more frequently. One of those breaks came as the tournament progressed, and, rather than unplugging completely from work, Falcone was excited to post updates on the bracket’s progress for families and students.

The bracket exercise was just intended to be fun and wasn’t tied to lessons. Truthfully, Falcone said he never expected his class to have so much success.

But it just goes to show that even when the odds are slim—the NCAA describes the odds of choosing a perfect bracket as “practically zero"—sometimes they’re in your favor.

The experience has also reinforced for the students that there’s no harm in trying something new, Falcone said.

“It’s like, whatever happens, happens, and if it’s something good, that’s fantastic and if it’s something bad, at least we tried,” he said. “I think it’s taught them a little bit about never giving up because you never know what can happen.”

Although the class won’t get any official rewards from the NCAA for its fifth-place finish, Falcone said he plans to celebrate with his students when they return from break next week, perhaps with a pizza party, or maybe ice cream sundaes.

As for Falcone’s bracket that he filled out individually, without his students?

“It was garbage,” he said. “I definitely needed the class.”
