If you have an Office 365 subscription, you can open and and edit PowerPoint files using PowerPoint for iOS. If you do not have an Office 365 subscription, you can still open and view PowerPoint files using PowerPoint for iOS. You can also open, view and edit PowerPoint files using Keynote. However, PowerPoint files make not work properly in Keynote.

Using Microsoft PowerPoint

• If you open PowerPoint and it displays the last presentation you opened, tap the Back arrow in the upper-left corner to display the red bar to the left.

• If you do not see the cloud based service in the Locations menu, make sure you have downloaded and installed the app from the App Store and signed in to the app. Then tap " Edit " at the top of the Locations menu, and tap the toggle switch next to the Cloud service you have installed on your device.

• If you have an Office 365 and you need to sign in, tap Sign In in the upper-right corner and sign in using the email address and password associated with your Office 365 account.

For example, our preschool teachers have a alphebet app where the the kids follow the train to make the letter strokes. Many preschool kids struggle with fine motor skills. We were wanting to project this app onto our interactive white board so the kids can use their whole hand to trace rather than just their finger. I know we can take a screen shot but then where they traced won’t show up and the train won’t move to show them the order of the strokes. Install and set up Office on an iPhone or iPad

There are two ways to get Office on your iPhone:

You can use our mobile Office apps to work from anywhere. Just sign in with a free Microsoft account or an Microsoft 365 work or school account. With a qualifying Microsoft 365 subscription , you'll also have access to premium features.

Set up individual Office apps on iPhone or iPad

On your iPhone or iPad, open any standalone mobile Office app (for example, Excel). 

Sign in with your Microsoft account, or Microsoft 365 work or school account and then tap  Next .

Note:  If using Office 365 operated by 21Vianet, sign in with the account associated with your Microsoft 365 operated by 21Vianet subscription.

If you don't have a Microsoft Account, you can create one for free .

If you signed in with a Microsoft account that’s associated with Office 2016 or Office 2019, you may get the option to upgrade to Microsoft 365.

You can purchase a plan, or tap  Maybe later if you want to use the mobile apps without a subscription.

Note that you get access to  premium features if you use a Microsoft 365 subscription.

When prompted to help us improve your Office mobile experience, tap Yes  to opt in, or No to opt out.

Tap  Turn on Notifications to enable alerts, or tap  Not Now to set your preference later.

After you sign in, your account is automatically added to the current app, as well as any other Office apps that are installed on your iPhone or iPad. 

To add another account or a cloud service, like OneDrive or Dropbox, tap Open > Add a Place .

If you're using OneNote on your iPhone or iPad, tap your profile picture in the upper left corner, and then tap Storage Accounts . 

Choose the cloud service that you want to add. 

Enter the email address and password to sign into your preferred service. 

You're all set!

How do I open documents in an Office mobile app?

Tap the service where your files are located. For example, tap Open > OneDrive - Personal or tap Open > OneDrive - your business name .

You'll see the files you saved. The files you see are specific to the app you opened them in. For example, if you opened the Word app, you'll only see Word documents.

To view any OneNote notebooks you saved to OneDrive or OneDrive for work or school, tap + Open Existing .

To use the extra features in the apps, you must sign in with the Microsoft account or work or school account that's associated with your qualifying Microsoft 365 subscription. If you have an iPad Pro, you must also have a qualifying plan to do any type of editing on that particular device. Using your iphone/ipad for powerpoint presentations on the go.

I am on the go frequently and am asked to make short (and long) presentations. I have become very comfortable with Microsoft PowerPoint and built up a repertoire of reusable content that I update. I know those who have all their devices in the Apple world like to use Keynote which has its own set of benefits.

If you want to display your presentation on an external device (such as a monitor, TV, or projector), you need to purchase a Lightning Digital AV Adapter (AV = Audio Visual). This adapter plugs into your modern iPhone or iPad device through the lightning port and provides 2 connections: an HDMI connection which is used to connect to an external display and a lightning port which can be used to charge your device while in use during the presentation.

It is optional to connect the AC power adapter to your AV Adapter lightning port. If your presentation is short and you have enough battery remaining, you can opt to not need the extra cable and finding an available power outlet.

Note you also need a regular HDMI cable if one is not provided at the facility where you are presenting. I highly recommend you purchase a long Redmere HDMI cable from Monoprice. They are ultra slim and very portable. I also use these for the majority of all my home theater cabling. It makes things very clean and helps reduce cable clutter due to bulky cables. As an aside, I highly recommend Monoprice where I buy most of my cabling and their prices are great.

In order to access your PowerPoint files , you have several available options. Currently you can have your files located in:

• OneDrive for Business
• SharePoint Site
• iCloud Drive

I already make use of Dropbox and it is my preferred choice. Dropbox is also free.

Dropbox offers a feature that I really love: Make Available Offline . If you have Dropbox installed on your workstation, create a folder called “Presentations” and copy your PowerPoint files there. You can also do this using a web browser on their website. Next open the Dropbox app on your iPhone/iPad and find your PowerPoint files you will be using. To the right of each filename is an arrow pointing down indicating extra actions for that file, one of them is Make Available Offline. By selecting that option on the files you require, you will have these files available to you even without a data connection. No need to have a reliable WiFi or cell connection to ensure your presentation works, one less thing that can go wrong.

You have all of the above ready and you should test it out . Set your mobile device to airplane mode, open PowerPoint on your iPhone/iPad, select the “Open” menu option, select “Add a place” to connect to your Dropbox files, find the Presentations folder, select your PowerPoint file and there is a Play button near the top right. You should be able to see everything on your external display as soon as you connect the Lightning Digital AV Adapter to the HDMI port. Ensure you have selected on your TV/Projector the correct HDMI source/input port.

If you have an Apple Watch, PowerPoint for iPhone allows you to control your presentations from your wrist with the ability to navigate between slides and also see the elapsed time or total number of slides in your deck.

Being a road warrior and carrying these small extra cables with you wherever you go, will enable you to give presentations on the fly with minimal preparation required. If you make a habit of copying your presentations to your Dropbox folder (or working directly within), you will always have what you need at your fingertips. There are also many handheld portable projectors in the market over the past few years, commonly called Pico Projectors. These allow you to easily project onto many surfaces such as a blank wall for quick on the go presentations using a projector that fits in your hand. Here is a list of the top 10 Pico Projectors .

We currently use lightening cables with all of our iPads (1200+) but are starting to roll out Apple TV to our meeting venues. When it works, it is brilliant but it does have it’s glitchy moments.

Our main hurdle we’ve experiences now is the bandwidth usage over our LAN, something that of course a wired lightening cable negates LAN limitations

Whenever I need to make a presentation with my iPad, I just prefer to take an Apple TV box with me. The set-up is usually painless, and I don’t need to have long winded discussions with the IT team. Of course, sometimes I can have issues when the Wi-Fi signal is not strong, in which case I set up a local Wi-Fi hotspot.

Because I’m a programmer/IT guy I always have a backpack with all kinds of cables, external hard drives, my laptop and tools that are useful for these types of situations. Nowadays I only use Powerpoint on my phone, it’s basically the same thing but it’s much more convenient to use it on my LG G4. Always make sure to have a pluggable memory stick handy, you never know when stuff happens.

I tend to do a lot of Power Point presentations on school and I’ve really thought about buying one of this adapters, because sometimes is not that practical to carry the laptop all the way to my school, it’s kind of heavy and sometimes it seems a little bit useless to use it just for those 15 minutes. I just ended this semester but I’m pretty sure that I’m going to buy one of those when summer it’s over.

Is there any way to actually make power points on an iphone? Based on this article, it seems like you can only use your iphone to show a powerpoint. Obviously, a phone isn’t the ideal way to put together a presentation due to the screen size touch controle, but I feel like it could be a great tool in a bind or if you want to get some extra work done on a long train or bus commute.

How to Project PowerPoint Slides via iPad, iPhone or iPod touch

It’s easy to project PowerPoint slide presentations from mobile devices like the iPad or iPhone – if you have the right tools.

One of the cool things about using the new SlideShark app to view PowerPoint presentations on your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch is that you don’t have to carry your laptop around to sales and business presentations. Of course, when presenting to large groups, you’re still going to want to project your PowerPoint slides so that everyone in the room can see them.

Fortunately, hooking your Apple mobile devices up to a TV or projector is a simple process. There  are  a few different ways to go about this though, depending on costs, needs and situation. Here are some of the primary options to choose from when it comes to  projecting PowerPoint from your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.

#1. Go the adapter route

This is probably the simplest way to display your slides on the big screen in business meetings. Most company meeting rooms these days are equipped with either an HD TV display or, at the very least, overhead projector. Obviously, Apple mobile devices are not equipped to connect directly to either of these options out of the box.

But no matter which situation you find yourself in, you can easily connect your iPad or iPhone using the  Apple Digital AV Adapter  and a short HDMI cable. The adapter is not expensive (Apple sells it for just $39.00), and is compatible with most of the latest Apple devices. (It’s also very easy to hook up, as  this Houston Chronicle post  explains.)

#2. Go the Airplay route

For those who don’t know, the  AppleTV AirPla y  option lets you stream content (video, music, images) wirelessly from your mobile device directly to your HD TV or computer screen. I’ve personally used this option in the past to watch streaming video, and can attest to its quality. In fact, I watched an entire episode of AMC’s  Breaking Bad  during a recent trip to Europe and was amazed at how well the AirPlay feature worked.

SlideShark supports the AirPlay feature as well, so displaying PowerPoint slides via this method is no problem. However, keep in mind that the feature requires Apple TV, which I can’t imagine most business meeting rooms are equipped with at this time.

#3. Go the mini-projector route

If you’re so inclined, there’s also the option of purchasing a mini  HDMI Pocket Projector  to display your presentations. This little baby is designed to hook up directly to your iPhone or iPad (and most other mobile devices), allowing you to project your PowerPoint slides from pretty much anywhere.

Just be aware, at $299.99, this is sort of an expensive option, and I can’t imagine many companies will shell these out to everyone in their sales teams. That said, how cool would it be to walk into a sales meeting with everything you need to present – iPhone and projector – sitting in the palm of your hand? Fortunately, there are cheaper options out there to consider as well.

How to edit .pptx PowerPoint files on Mac, iPad or iPhone

Keynote is arguably the best way to create presentations on your Mac or iOS device, but it’s not necessarily the software most people have installed. If you work with Windows PCs then there’s a good chance that Microsoft Powerpoint will be the go-to package. The problem is that when it comes to sharing Powerpoint creations they arrive in the .pptx format – one not often seen on macOS or iOS. Read next: How to edit PDFs on Mac for free

Stay your angst though, as Apple won’t be overcome by the wrong letters at the end of a filename. So here are the easiest ways to edit a .pptx file on a Mac, iPad or iPhone.

What is a .pptx file?

As you’ve probably guessed, a .pptx file is the proprietary file format used by Microsoft for its PowerPoint software.

This file type actually replaced the .ppt version in 2007, with the x indicating Microsoft’s switch to an XML format which is far friendlier for other applications to open.

By contrast, .key is the standard file format for Keynote presentations.

How to edit a .pptx file on a Mac

Import .pptx files to keynote.

This one is pretty straightforward as every Mac since 2013 comes with Keynote preloaded. For those with older machines you’ll be pleased to know that Apple has now made the entire iWork suite (Keynote, Pages, and Numbers), along with GarageBand, and iMovie free to download from the App  Store.

With Keynote installed you just locate the .pptx file in Finder. Right click on it, then move the cursor onto Open with… and select Keynote .

You may see some warnings of fonts not being available. These will be proprietary ones, but Keynote will substitute them with a suitable replacement which you can always change if you prefer a different style.

Now you can edit the file as normal.

Export .pptx files from Keynote

Once you’ve finished editing your presentation you can export it in a .pptx format that your colleagues can use on PowerPoint.

Open the file in Keynote then go to File > Export To and select PowerPoint .

You’ll see a box appear with Format: pptx . This is what you want so click Next , name the file then click Export .

This will create a file that you can now share without fear of getting a ‘how do I open this?’ email.

Use Microsoft Office

Of course the easiest way to interact with PowerPoint files on a Mac is to actually use PowerPoint itself. Microsoft offers the entire Office suite on macOS, and it’s very good.

The current trend is to pay a monthly or yearly fee, the cost of which is £5.99 p/m or £59.99 p/a for a single user licence. Other tiers are also available if you want access to the software on more than one machine.

How to edit a .pptx file on iPad or iPhone

Importing to keynote.

Much like on the Mac, Apple has now made Keynote, Number, Pages, iMovie and GarageBand free on iOS. So if you don’t already have Keynote installed, go to the App Store and download it.

To import your .pptx file you’ll first need to ensure that the file is stored in your iCloud Drive. Once this is done open Keynote, tap Locations in the upper left corner, then select iCloud Drive .

You’ll now be presented with the various folders on iCloud. Navigate to your file and tap it to import it to Keynote.

You might see a dialog box saying you need to change your iCloud settings to allow this. If this happens select Go to Settings and you’ll be taken to the iCloud section. Here you just need to turn the Use iCloud option on.

Once that’s done return to Keynote and repeat the above steps to open your presentation. Again you might see a warning saying that the presentation was created in an older version of the software and that some fonts will be different. Tap Open and you’ll finally see your PowerPoint presentation.

Now you can edit the file, add new slides, effects, and what have you, just like any other Keynote presentation.

Exporting from Keynote

Any presentation you work on in Keynote will automatically be saved as a .key file. When you want to share this with PowerPoint users you’ll first need to convert it to a .pptx file. This is achieved through the Send a Copy feature.

Tap the Presentations option in the top left corner to take you back to the main Keynote menu. Here you’ll see all your files. In the upper right corner is the Share button (a square with a arrow pointing out of the top), tap this.

You’ll be presented with three options – Collaborate with Others , Send a Copy , and Move to… – from which you should choose Send a Copy .

You’ll now be asked to select which file you want to send. Tap your presentation and you’ll see a pop-up box with the file types available. Tap PowerPoint and Keynote will convert your file.

Of course you’ll want to send it to someone, so Keynote will open the Share menu where you can pick which method of communication you wish to use: Mail, Message, WebDav, and a number of others.

Use Microsoft Office Apps

Yep, just like on the Mac you can also use Microsoft’s official PowerPoint app on iPhone and iPad. You can do basic editing on the free version and save to OneDrive, but for full features you’ll need a paid Office365 account.

Record PowerPoint Presentations using an iPad or iPhone

Using PowerPoint for iPad or iPhone, it is possible to make a recording of your slide show. You can include voiceover/narration, and point to and draw things on the screen.

Recordings can be published to a Canvas course using Kaltura in one of the following ways:

• On an iPad, you can lock the screen to be in landscape mode.
• If using an iPhone, be careful not to rotate your phone and thus rotate the screen into portrait mode.
• For voiceover/narration, use an external microphone . Apple headphones or Airpods are sufficient.
• Enable Do Not Disturb on your device to prevent unexpected notifications.
• Consider dividing your slide show into topics that are not longer than 10 minutes or so. You can group recordings together later.

To record your slideshow you will need to enable and then use the Screen Recording feature built into iPadOS and iOS. If you don't already have screen recording available, complete the following steps:

• Select Control Center .
• Select Customize Controls .

Use the following steps to set up your iPhone or iPad to record your slideshow.

• In PowerPoint , go to the slide you wish to begin presenting.
• Tap the Play  button.
• From the top right of the screen, slide your finger down . The Control Center appears.
• Tap and hold the Record  button to show Screen Recording options.
• The button will turn red, and the text will change to say Microphone On .
• Tap Start Recording . There will be a three-second countdown .
• Tap the background (outside of the Screen Recording box) to return to Control Center .
• Note : Each time you start or pause a recording, the Control Center appears.
• To point things out on your slides:  Tap and hold on the screen.   A red dot appears that you can drag around. When you lift your finger off the screen, the dot will disappear.
• To annotate on your slides:  Tap towards the top of the screen, then tap the Pencil icon ; when this button is highlighted, you can draw on the screen.
• For more options:  To the right of the screen, tap the pen with the gear .
• When you are done, from the top right of the screen, slide your finger down . The Control Center appears. 
• Tap the flashing Record  button. Your recording will save to the Photos app.

When recording a slideshow from your iPad/iOS device's screen using the method described in this article, the resulting recording will be surrounded by black bars. You may want to crop out those black bars before uploading the video from your device.

Note: Cropping screen recordings appears to result in reduced image quality that is noticeable but not severe.

Background recording: Adding Video to Canvas Media Gallery on iPad

We recommend splitting a longer presentation (such as a 50-minute lecture) into multiple shorter recordings/topics. 

To group recordings together, such as having four parts of one lecture for a specific date, you can use Media Gallery Playlists in Canvas. Playlists appear in the Canvas Media Gallery , or can be embedded on a Canvas page using the Rich Content Editor . 

Note: It appears that when in Safari on iPad and iPhone, users cannot access the Settings button in Media Galleries to set up playlists. We have a ticket open with the vendor requesting such functions for iPad.

How to Transfer PowerPoint Presentations to iPad or iPhone

To view PowerPoint presentations on iPad, you will have to transfer PowerPoint files in PPT format from PC to iPad. You will find below the steps to transfer PowerPoint Presentations to iPad or iPhone.

Transfer PowerPoint Presentations to iPad or iPhone

All that is required to transfer PowerPoint Presentations from PC to iPad or iPhone is to connect your iOS device to computer and make use of iTunes and Documents App or PowerPoint App to transfer PPT Files to iPhone.

iTunes needs to be installed on your computer and the Documents App or PowerPoint App needs to be installed on your iOS device.

As far as the computer is concerned, it can either be a Mac or PC as the procedure to transfer PPT files to iPhone is more or less the same on both Mac and Windows PC.

Transfer PowerPoint Files from PC to iPhone or iPad

Download and install the Documents App on your iPhone/iPad and follow the steps below to transfer PowerPoint Presentation files from PC to iPhone or iPad.

1. Connect iPhone to the USB Port of your computer.

2. Open iTunes on your computer and click on the Phone icon as it appears in the top menu bar in iTunes.

3. Next, click on the File Sharing option in side menu > select Documents or Keynote App and click on Add File button.

4. On the next screen, navigate to location of the PowerPoint file on your computer > select the PPT File that you want to transfer to iPhone and click on Open .

5. Next, make sure that Presentation File  is selected and click on Done .

Once you click on Done, the selected PowerPoint File in PPT Format will be transferred to your iOS device (iPhone or iPad).

How to View PowerPoint Presentations on iPad or iPhone

Once the PowerPoint File is transferred to your iOS device, you can follow the steps below to open and View the PowerPoint Presentations on your iPad or iPhone.

1. Open the Documents App on your iPhone.

2. Once the App is open, tap on iTunes Files .

3. On the next screen, tap on your Presentation File .

Once the PPT file opens in Documents App, you will be able to view your PowerPoint Presentation on iPad or iPhone, just like you do on your PC.

Adding Apple iPhone Videos to Microsoft PowerPoint Presentations

Introduction

By default, iPhones (iOS) use a High Efficiency Video Format ( HEFV ), using the MOV file extension to record video. It can produce smaller file sizes with good quality, but compatibility is a problem if you’re not on a Mac.

The  ideal  solution is to change the video recording format on the iPhone to MP4. This ensures that whoever watches the video or views the video in a PowerPoint presentation will not run into any issues.

Set iPhone to Record Video in Most Compatible Format

• Tap  Settings
• Scroll down and tap  Camera
• Tap  Formats
• Tap  Most Compatible  if it’s not already selected
• Exit Settings

Record Your Video

• Open the iPhone  Camera  app
• Record your video

Upload Video to OneDrive

• Open the iPhone  OneDrive  app
• Click the folder you want to upload the video to and click the  +  button
• Tap  Photos and Videos

You may need to give the OneDrive app access to All Photos. If you are not prompted for access, skip ahead to the Select Video section

• Tap  Manage Settings
• Tap  Photos
• Change this setting to  All Photos  and go back to OneDrive

Select Video

• Tap  Videos
• Tap the video you want to upload, and tap  Done
• OneDrive will show that it is uploading and will eventually show complete

Attach Video to PowerPoint Presentation

• Open the PowerPoint presentation you want to add the video to
• Under the  Insert  tab, choose  Video , then  This Device
• Click on the OneDrive
• Locate and click on the video you just uploaded, then click Insert
• Save the presentation

Existing Video

For video that’s already been recorded in  HEVF  and can’t be re-shot, there are two options.

• Purchase the High Efficiency Video Codec ( HEVC ) from Microsoft for $0.99. The problem with this option is every user not on a Mac wanting to watch the video in the PowerPoint presentation will also need to purchase the codec. To purchase, go to  https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/hevc-video-extensions/9nmzlz57r3t7  and follow the prompts (opens the Microsoft store).
• Go to  https://www.videolan.org/
• Download and install VLC Media Player
• Open VLC Media Player
• Click the  Media   drop-down menu and choose  Convert / Save…
• Click  Add  under the File tab and open the video to convert
• Click the  Convert / Save  button
• Change the  Profile  drop-down menu to, “ Video for MPEG4 1080p TV/device ”
• Click  Browse , select a destination, and give the new file a name
• Click  Start
• VLC Media Player will act like it’s playing a video, but nothing will show. When it’s done, close VLC Media Player

If you’ve converted the video to a new format, delete the old video from the PowerPoint presentation and insert the new one.

Note: If you’re not using PowerPoint and just want to play an unconverted video, just install VLC Media Player and use it to play videos

Troubleshooting

There are many reasons why your PowerPoint file is running slowly, and all of them lead to frustration and wasted time. Before you throw your computer out the window, take a look at these tips that will hopefully get you back up and running more smoothly.

It's likely that the main cause of your sluggish PowerPoint file is its size. Since PowerPoint is a presentation designer, you might have lots of images, audio clips, and videos, each increasing the memory the program consumes on your computer. You might have also added many animations and transitions to make your PowerPoint more impressive, but these also add to your file's size. Addressing these will significantly reduce your file size and, thus, quicken the program's processing speed.

The question to ask is whether you need so many images in the first place. Go through your slides and remove any images that don't add any true value to your presentation. If you still find that you have lots of images, consider making them smaller by dragging the corner image handle towards the center of the picture.

Hold Ctrl to select many images on a slide at the same time, and then adjust one of those images to make them all smaller.

A second option is to remove artistic effects from images. It might be tempting to use PowerPoint's built-in picture editor, but adding shadows, reflections, and borders instantly adds kilobytes to your file. To revert the image to its original formatting, first select the image, and then click "Reset Picture" in the Picture Format tab on the ribbon.

Finally, consider compressing your images . While this will reduce their quality, using a lower resolution will mean that PowerPoint won't have to work as hard to display them in both the Normal and Slide Show views. Select an image in your slideshow, and click "Compress Pictures" in the Picture Format tab.

Then, you can either choose to compress the image you selected or all images in your file. If you plan to project your finished presentation onto a screen, 150 PPI is the optimal choice for reducing your file size without lowering the image quality too much.

The other way to compress your images, and all future pictures you add, is to first click File > Options. Then, click "Advanced" in the left-hand menu, and change "Default Resolution" to 150 PPT or 220 PPI in the Image Size And Quality options.

Then, click "OK."

Removing backgrounds and watermarks from your slides will also help to speed up your file.

Audio and Videos

As well as compressing images, you can also compress the media within your presentation, but the method differs slightly. Click File > Info, and choose the "Compress Media" drop-down button. There, click "HD" or "Standard" as alternatives to the Full HD option.

Compressing the media in your presentation will also remove embedded subtitles and alternate audio tracks.

If this doesn't speed up your file, consider removing the media from your PowerPoint file altogether. This doesn't mean you have to lose that feature from your slideshow, however—adding a link to the video or audio, which you can click when delivering your presentation, is a good alternative.

Animations and Transitions

Animations are a good way to emphasize details in your PowerPoint presentation or gradually introduce information step-by-step, and transitions between slides can look professional and slick. However, overusing these features not only distracts your audience and looks tacky, but also reduces your PowerPoint's performance efficiency. Keeping animations and transitions to a minimum, in terms of both quantity and type, will make a big difference. If possible, try to stick to these rules:

• Ask yourself, "Does this make my presentation better?" If the answer is no, don't put it in.
• Use slick effects that last less than one second without you having to change the speed of the animation . Fade and Cut are professional and quick transition effects, and Appear and Fade are optimal entrance animations.
• Use the same transition effect for each slide, and the same animation for each item.
• Try to avoid adding more than one animation to each item, and avoid animating individual words and letters.

You might think that the slides in the thumbnail pane on the left-hand side are the only slides in your file. However, the Slide Master contains hidden information that dictates how your presentation is designed. You can see the master slides by clicking "Slide Master" in the View tab on the ribbon.

First, scroll through the Slide Master, and right-click and delete any of the layouts you don't need.

Second, you might see objects (such as pictures or formatted text) that don't add any value to your PowerPoint. Click the relevant master slides and remove those items.

While useful, macros and add-ins—advanced tools that enable more features and functions—significantly add to your PowerPoint file's workload, and could be the reason it is running slowly.

Macros let you automate a series of commands to execute a task with a single click or keyboard shortcut. To check which macros you have enabled in your PowerPoint, click the "Macros" button in the View tab. This will bring up a dialog box, where you can view, edit, and—importantly—delete any macros.

Even though deleting a macro means you might lose some automation, it will likely speed up your file significantly.

Add-ins are custom tools you can add to PowerPoint that enable you to do more with the program. For example, you can add more customized charts or interactive elements to take your presentation to the next level. However, since you're effectively adding another program to PowerPoint, these affect its performance hugely.

To see whether you have add-ins installed, click the "Add-ins" icon on the Home tab, and any add-ins will show under My Add-ins in the drop-down dialog box.

Then, to remove an add-in, click "More Add-ins."

In the Office Add-ins window, click "My Add-ins," and click the three dots next to whichever add-in you want to delete. Finally, click "Remove."

This will remove the add-in from your Microsoft account, affecting all Office applications compatible with this add-in.

This tip is somewhat of a last resort, as Microsoft 365's AutoSave is a great way to ensure you don't lose your work if something unexpected happens, such as an impromptu update or the dreaded blue screen of death .

However, because AutoSave uploads the latest version of your PowerPoint file to your OneDrive account every few seconds, it's always working in the background and might slow down the program's performance.

Providing you're sure that you'll remember to press Ctrl+S every few minutes to save your work manually, try disabling AutoSave to speed up your file.

If you can't see the AutoSave icon, right-click any of the tabs and click "Show Quick Access Toolbar."

If you still can't see it, click the "Customize Quick Access Toolbar" down arrow, and check "Automatically Save."

Then, click the AutoSave toggle to "Off," and the AutoSave function will stop working away in the background.
