Table of Contents

A 150-word essay about my first day at college

My first day at college was an emotional experience for me, so writing about it was difficult for me. The day I started that new chapter of my life was a turning point in my life. I enrolled in Haji Muhammad Mohsin College after passing the SSC examination. On the first day, I arrived before 9 AM. My first action was to write the procedure on the notice board. It was a three-class day for me. It was English class first. In the classroom, I sat down.

A large number of students were present. A lively conversation was taking place between them. There was a lot of interaction between the students. Though I had never met any of them before, I quickly made friends with a few of them. In the classroom, the professor arrived on time. The rolls were called very quickly at first. During his speech, he used English as his language.

He discussed the responsibilities of a college student. My teachers’ lectures were enjoyable, and I enjoyed each class. In the afternoon, I visited several areas of the college after class. Compared to the college library, the college library was much larger. Thousands of books were on display, which amazed me. A memorable day in my life was my first day in college.

Essay on My First Day at College in 350+ Words

It was an important day in my life when I attended college for the first time. I will never forget that day. When I was in school. My elder brothers and sisters provided me with a glimpse of college life. Having just started college, I looked forward to it with much anticipation. It seemed to me that college life would offer me a freer life, where there would be fewer restrictions and fewer teachers to worry about. It was finally the day that had been longed for.

A government college was opened in my city. As soon as I stepped onto the college grounds, I was filled with hope and aspirations. Seeing the diversified perspective offered by the college was a pleasant surprise. I had never seen anything like it at our school or around it. Many unknown faces appeared in front of me.

As a freshman in college, I experienced some very strange things. My surprise was sparked by seeing students playing indoor and outdoor games as well as listening to radio broadcasts during class time. It is not prohibited to wear a uniform. Students’ movements are free, as I observed. It is up to them to decide what they want to do.

first day at university short essay

The newly admitted students were all in good spirits when I arrived. It was a pleasure to make friends with them all. It was a pleasure to move around the college. As I entered the college library, I was delighted to find books on every topic I wanted to learn about. On my first day at the college, I was keen to learn more about the laboratory and conduct experiments. The notice board displayed the timetable for my class. Attending classes was something I did. There is a difference between the method of teaching at the college and at the school.

A specialized teacher teaches each subject. Classes do not ask questions. Failure to learn a lesson does not result in a reprimand from the professor. This is simply a matter of reminding students they have responsibilities. The school has a homely atmosphere, so students lack access to snacks. Therefore, they feel the comfortable rhythm of life has changed and I returned home feeling a mixture of duty and liberty.

My First Day at College Essay In 500+ Words

 a brief introduction:.

A memorable event in my life was my first day at college. When I was a boy, I dreamed of studying in a college. A college was attended by my eldest brother. During our conversation, he told me stories about his college. My mind immediately traveled to another world when I read those stories. As a student, I found college to be a totally different experience from my school. My dream of attending college came true because of that. My college experience seemed to me to be an opportunity to get rid of the rigid school rules that I had gone to school under. The SSC examination was finally passed and I was able to enroll in a college. Some colleges gave me admission forms. Haji Mohammad Mohsin College selected me for admission after I took the admission tests at those colleges. The event marked the beginning of a new chapter in my life.

  Preparation:

My college life had been on my mind for quite some time. It was finally here. As soon as I arose from my bed, I prepared breakfast. On my way to college, I arrived there well before 9 a.m. In the morning, the routine was written on the noticeboard. It was a busy day for me with three classes. There was a difference in classrooms between my classes and I was surprised by it.

  Classroom experience:

It was English that I studied in my first class. It was time for me to take my seat in the classroom. Many students attended. A lively conversation was taking place between them. There was a lot of student interaction going on. I became friends with some of them in no time, despite not knowing any of them before. In the classroom, the professor arrived on time. He called the roll quickly. After that, he began to speak.

English was his first language. College students have responsibilities and duties, he said. He held my attention raptly. It was a very informative lecture and I enjoyed it a lot. The next class was Bengali’s first paper. The class was held in a different classroom. Bengali short stories were the topic of the teacher’s lecture in that class.

My previous school’s educational standards are different from the colleges I am attending. After attending the classes, I understood the difference. Additionally, the college had a better method of teaching. Students were treated politely by the professor as if they were friends.

Libraries, common rooms, and canteens at the college:

After attending the classes, I visited the different parts of the college. There was a large library at the college. Thousands of books were there, and I was astonished. It was a popular place to study. A large crowd of students was chatting in the students’ common. There were also indoor games being played by some of the students. Next, I stopped by the college canteen. Some of my friends and I had tea and snacks there. Everyone on campus was having a good time and enjoying themselves.

My First Day at University: Narrative Essay

The first day at university marks the beginning of a new chapter in life, filled with excitement, anticipation, and a hint of nervousness. It’s a day that symbolizes new beginnings, fresh starts, and endless possibilities. In this narrative essay, I will recount the experiences of my first day at university, from the nervous excitement before to the exhilarating moments that followed. Stepping onto the university campus for the first time was a whirlwind of emotions. Excitement bubbled within me as I imagined the new friends I’d make and the knowledge I’d gain. In this essay, I’ll share the story of my first day at university, from the excitement before to the experiences that unfolded.

Getting Ready and Feeling Excited

In the days leading up to my first day, I was a jumble of emotions—nervous yet thrilled, anxious yet excited. The prospect of embarking on this new chapter in my life filled me with a sense of anticipation unlike anything I had ever experienced before.

I dedicated hours to preparing for the big day. I meticulously planned my schedule, making sure I had everything in order. I went over my checklist again and again, ensuring that I had all the necessary books and supplies. Each item I ticked off the list brought me one step closer to being ready.

Arriving on Campus

On the morning of my first day, I arrived on campus early, eager to begin this new adventure. The campus was buzzing with activity, and I felt a sense of belonging as I joined other students in orientation sessions and explored the campus.

As I walked around, I was impressed by the state-of-the-art facilities, from the well-equipped libraries to the modern lecture halls. Everything was designed to support students in their academic journey, and I felt reassured knowing that I had access to such excellent resources.

Orientation and Welcoming Atmosphere

During orientation, I was introduced to the university’s facilities and services, which helped ease my nerves. I also had the chance to meet other students and begin forming friendships that would last throughout my university years.

One of the highlights of orientation was meeting other students who were also starting their university journey. We bonded over our shared excitement and nerves, and before long, we were chatting and laughing as if we had known each other for years. These early friendships would prove to be invaluable throughout my university years, providing support, friendship, and a sense of belonging.

Making Connections  Settling In and Finding My Way

Throughout the day, I engaged in conversations with my fellow students, exchanging stories and experiences. These initial interactions played a crucial role in helping me feel more comfortable and enthusiastic about the journey ahead. The shared laughter and companionship we experienced during these conversations created a sense of belonging and anticipation for the friendships that would blossom in the coming years. These interactions also helped me realize that I was not alone in my feelings of excitement and nervousness; we were all embarking on this new adventure together. By the end of the day, I felt a renewed sense of confidence and excitement about the experiences that lay ahead, knowing that I had already formed connections that would accompany me on this journey.

Settling In and Finding My Way Lessons Learned

Throughout the day, I attended my first classes, immersing myself in the academic side of university life. The workload was challenging, but I was eager to learn and grow. The professors were engaging, and the material was fascinating. I felt a sense of accomplishment as I completed my assignments and participated in class discussions. These early experiences reinforced my excitement about my chosen field of study and motivated me to excel in my academic pursuits.

Lessons Learned

Thinking back to my first day, I realize how much I’ve learned and grown already. I learned to accept change and try new things, which made me feel more independent and sure of myself. This experience has helped me become more confident and able to handle new challenges. Each day brings something new, and I’m grateful for the chance to learn and grow even more.

Excitement for the Future

Conclusion:.

My first day at university was a mix of emotions, but it was also a day filled with excitement, new beginnings, and endless possibilities. As I continue my journey, I’m grateful for the experiences that have shaped me and excited for all that lies ahead.

'One day at a time': My first days at university

A University of Bristol student from New York shares her experience of her first few days in the UK...

share image

We have another new student blogger, also from the   University of Bristol . Her name is Emilia Morano-Williams, and she comes to us from the US. She is currently a fourth year Italian student, originally from New York. In her first entry she takes us back to her first few weeks in Bristol, including the attention her accent attracted, and more....

'I had seen Bristol a couple of times before I arrived there for university, but, from the moment I landed in Heathrow, I could tell that this time would be different. There was no return ticket, there was no easy lifting the suitcase and there was no way to enter the country without having my fingerprints scanned. I was here as more than a tourist, I was here to live.

Things have changed a lot since then, but my first few days in  Bristol  as a student have become the benchmark by which I measure how much I’ve grown since arriving at university. The awkward exchanges with possible friends, the blank room with a single university-issued poster hanging on the wall and even the frequent inability to eat this completely foreign food felt all encompassing back then. Little did I know that all those funny moments wouldn’t last.

I moved into halls much like the other students. My parents and I arrived with a couple suitcases at Churchill Hall in Bristol and walked into the painfully bare room. Within a few minutes everything was out and had a place. I had barely any belongings and my room resembled a bare Travelodge rather than a place in which I would be spending my first year of university. I glanced out onto the quad, a unique feature of my hall, and saw the other students moving in box after box. Could I ever forget the kid who brought his own television or a box of beer? Nope, not yet anyway.

Of course, the first day all passes in the longest whirlwind of your life. Soon my parents left and I went to say hi to the other students who I could see and hear chatting happily from my window. Once I said hi and began meeting people, it was easy to keep going. People heard my accent from the moment I began speaking and, just like that, we had a conversation going. There seemed to be a shockingly large amount of people who knew each other already, but I just shrugged it off with a smile that’s largeness probably betrayed the nerves that I felt.

Things got easier and harder after the first day. My first week of university life fell into the predictable pattern of attending induction talks, getting lost wandering around the university, trying to make friends and figuring out where to find the most basic of items. All of a sudden extension cords, mouthwash and folders became exotic items. When I wake up the first morning, I made the mistake of counting how many days until Christmas break would begin.  In that moment, as the fear of spending ninety days away from home hit me, I learnt the most important lesson of my university career: take it one day at a time. I’ve been living peacefully with that mindset ever since.

During the first few weeks, I was hyper aware of not wanting to seem too foreign. All my images of international students came from movies and television shows where they were put into the corner and observed as if their culture was so completely different. Yet, I soon realized that because I was fortunate enough to speak English as a first language and to have spent many months travelling through England before arriving at university, the cultural differences weren’t as stark as I expected them to be. People would ask me questions about where I came from, but when we discovered common interests, those queries quickly gave way to other topics. If people thought of me as foreign, they certainly didn’t show that. I soon began to stop thinking of myself as foreign and just thought of myself as a Bristol student.  Sure, it was hard when I talked to friends back home who were pleasantly ticking off all the required college experiences and got to go home at the weekend, but living abroad became less about being an American in a new country and turned into me having new experiences.

For me, the social and cultural struggles of arriving at university occupied more of my mental space than academic issues. I found it relatively easy to integrate into new classes and soon began to enjoy my schedule. The beginning of university is difficult for everyone, but as an international student it can be easy to think that you are the only one experiencing these issues because you are international. I didn’t realize it until later in the year, but everyone was struggling with the shift to university in their own way. It’s a culture shock to everyone; we just experience it in different ways.'

My First Day At University Essay 1000 Words

My First Day At University Essay 1000 Words, My first day at university was associated with a wide variety of feelings, including nervousness and excitement. Even though I had lived away from home for a while, I still made a point of seeing my parents around the holidays.

The realization that I would be living away from home hit me like a tonne of bricks, and I was simultaneously terrified and excited to live independently while attending school.

All of my high school worries returned as soon as I set foot on the campus of my college. It was already scorching outside around nine in the morning. On either side of a long, winding route that sliced through dense grass, the trees were arrayed like soldiers.

It appeared that everyone on campus had somewhere to be except for me as the leaves fluttered and danced as if they were in a hurry to reach somewhere significant.

I began to consider how much more responsibility being a college student would entail for me as I made my way deeper into campus because, for the first time in my life, there would be no one else to blame if something went wrong.

Thinking about this, I suddenly made the decision to look for my dorm. I felt like everyone was looking at me as I walked across campus in search of my dorm, and I could see the reddening of my face. Everyone around me looked exactly like me, but more self-assured, as I walked along a different hallway with people passing by.

I didn’t even sure which building to enter to find my accommodation; it appeared like everyone else knew where they were going except me. I eventually found it after going through a few different buildings!

I entered after noticing two strangers conversing on their mattresses since the number on my door matched the one on my paper.

When they saw me walk in, they stopped talking and gave me an odd look. One of them inquired about my questions and then informed me that she would shortly be going because she had class. When everyone finally left the class, I was left alone, so I made the decision to go.

Post-classes, I explored the campus, discovering libraries, cafeterias, and the beautiful green spaces. It was an enriching and memorable day.

250 Words Essay on My First Day at College

The anticipation of a new beginning.

The day I had been waiting for had finally arrived – my first day at college. The blend of excitement, nervousness, and anticipation was a unique emotional cocktail. I had spent my entire summer imagining what this day would be like, but reality was about to exceed my expectations.

Embracing the Unknown

Walking through the grand entrance, I was immediately struck by the sheer size of the campus. The hustle and bustle of students rushing to classes, the diversity of faces, and the grandeur of the architecture made my high school seem like a distant memory. I felt like a small fish in a vast ocean, ready to explore the unknown.

Breaking the Ice

As I entered my first class, the room filled with unfamiliar faces, I felt a twinge of anxiety. However, the ice-breaking session, designed to introduce us to each other, eased my nerves. We shared our backgrounds, interests, and aspirations. It was a comforting reminder that we were all in the same boat, navigating the waters of this new life together.

Lessons Beyond the Classroom

The rest of the day was a flurry of lectures, introductions, and tours. But the most profound lesson I learned was not academic. It was the realization that college was not just about acquiring knowledge, but also about learning to adapt, making connections, and growing as an individual.

My first day at college was a whirlwind of emotions and experiences. It marked the beginning of a new chapter in my life, a chapter filled with opportunities, challenges, and the promise of growth. As I walked back to my dorm that evening, I knew I was ready to embrace this new journey with open arms.

500 Words Essay on My First Day at College

Anticipation and apprehension.

The transition from high school to college is a significant milestone in a student’s life. My first day at college was an amalgamation of emotions ranging from anticipation to apprehension. I was stepping into an environment that promised intellectual growth, new friendships, and a journey towards self-discovery.

The New Academic Culture

As I walked through the gates of my college, I was immediately struck by the sheer diversity of the student body. The campus was teeming with students from different backgrounds, each bringing a unique perspective to the table. This was a stark contrast to my high school, where the student population was relatively homogeneous.

My first class was an introduction to philosophy. The professor, a renowned scholar in his field, challenged us to question our beliefs and assumptions. The class was interactive, and students were encouraged to voice their opinions. This was a departure from the rote learning methods I was accustomed to in high school. The emphasis was on critical thinking and problem-solving skills, which are essential in the real world.

Building New Relationships

Another significant aspect of my first day was the opportunity to forge new relationships. I met my roommate, a friendly person from a different city. We found common ground in our shared love for music and literature. The day was also filled with introductions to future classmates, professors, and administrative staff. Each interaction was a step towards building a network that would support me throughout my college journey.

Extracurricular Activities

The college also showcased a plethora of extracurricular activities. The clubs ranged from debate societies to sports teams, each offering a platform to pursue passions outside the academic realm. I was particularly drawn to the student-run newspaper, seeing it as an opportunity to hone my writing skills and stay informed about campus affairs.

Embracing Independence

Perhaps the most profound aspect of my first day at college was the sense of independence. For the first time, I was responsible for my schedule, managing my time between classes, extracurricular activities, and personal time. This newfound freedom was both exciting and daunting. It signified the beginning of my journey towards becoming a self-reliant individual.

My first day at college was a whirlwind of new experiences, filled with anticipation, excitement, and a bit of nervousness. It marked the beginning of a transformative journey, a journey that would shape my intellectual growth, personal development, and prepare me for the challenges of the future. As I reflect on that day, I realize that it was not just about the start of my college education, but also about the start of a new chapter in my life, one that would be filled with opportunities, challenges, and lifelong learning.

That’s it! I hope the essay helped you.

First day of uni tips

  • Make sure you’ve enrolled

On your first day in university you’ll need to make sure that you have enrolled for your course. Each university has a different process for this, but you should receive an email or letter giving you clear instructions on how to do so.

You will also usually receive an email about a month before your start date with a username, password and instructions on how to register to your university’s website. This should be completed before you start.

Once you have enrolled you will receive your timetable as well as the names of your lecturers. Make sure you print out your timetable and do your research on who the lecturers are.

  • Bring lots of stationary

Your first day, or even your first week, will probably feel like information overload. You’ll be meeting your lecturers and classmates as well as being given a lot of information such as assignment dates and office hours. It’s important you write all this information down, so be sure to bring a pad and pen or your laptop to take notes.

This can also help back in your dorm or student house to prepare a calendar of assignment dates to help keep you organised.

  • Visit the campus beforehand

Whether your university of choice is on a campus or within the city, it is important you make sure you know which buildings are where, as you don’t want to get lost on your first day.

If you are an international student moving to a large city, then it is easy to lose your whereabouts. It is a good idea to take a stroll round the city or campus a few days before you start university to get an understanding of where everything is. Not to mention exploring your new hometown!

  • Upload a picture for your student ID

Before your first day at uni, you’ll get the opportunity to upload a picture for your student card. This will save you having to queue up and have a picture taken on the day and will speed the process up.

Remember that student ID cards are important, not only to show that you attend the university, but also to bag yourself some great discounts in a wide range or restaurants and stores.

  • Make sure you read up about your university

Universities will often send you emails in the weeks before your start date with information on social events as well as registration details for the uni’s intranet. The intranet will allow you access to your timetables and course information, so it is important you read up on this before you arrive.

Also check the university’s social media accounts as this will give you tips and advice on how to prepare for your first day in uni.

There will also be various social media groups that you can join that are dedicated to international students, so you can make some friends before you even arrive. This will make the whole process seem far less scary and you can relax a bit easier.

Attend an Orientation event

Although everyone is welcome, orientation events are especially useful for international students. These are very informative talks about your chosen university. You’ll get information on the university’s polices, the campus, upcoming social events and depending on the uni, a tour may be given.

First Day at the University? What You Should Know and Do

Clare Aririahu

March 18, 2024

Yay! It’s your first day at the university, the beginning of your academic journey that will climax at the beginning of your career journey. It is normal to feel jittery on your first day at the university; however, you can cut yourself some slack by knowing what is required of you on your first day and getting yourself prepared ahead. Make it a fun day instead and ensure the memory is something you will always reminisce about with smiles. Below are some tips on what to expect on your first day at the university.

Table of Contents

1. Nervousness is a normal occurrence

There is always a first time for everything. Even a newscaster felt jittery on his or her debut appearance on the screen; likewise, your professor felt jittery on his first day before the students. The only thing that you should try to do is be yourself. Do not put too much pressure on yourself or rush things in order to overcome the nervousness. Remember that the whole of the week is for your adjustment? So, do not clutter everything on your first day to give yourself unnecessary pressure.

2. Go early

When you arrive at the campus early, you can use enough time to move around the campus and through your classes so as to know the distance between buildings and the right routes to take. Coordinate with your housemates and roommates and find out everyone’s time schedules for activities, especially inbound activities.

3. Put yourself in order

Planning yourself well will help you know the right time for each activity. If you will need to wake up early, going to bed early will be ideal. Choose the right clothes and iron them. Pack your bag. Do not be scared to ask questions and know what is in store for you beforehand. Student advisors are always available to assist you. Pre-planning your meals and snacks will go a great length in helping you put yourself together. Have some goals, like reading through the syllabus and other activities you might want to perform. Notwithstanding, do not overburden yourself.

4. Be open-minded

Be open to meeting new people, making friends, experiencing new environments, and others. Laugh when there is a need for it. Wave to people who seem to like you from afar. Smile at everyone and feel peace within you.

Take a break for your lunch or coffee in open places and have time to meet other people. There are activities you may not have planned for, but they pop up in your day; be open to accepting or rejecting them, depending on your priorities.

5. Pack your backpack with the essentials

It is essential to pack your bag a day ahead. This will give you room to remember anything you may have forgotten while packing it. Items like laptop snacks, notebooks, sharpened pencils, pens, headphones, and earplugs are necessary for your backpack.

How to be a Perfect Student

Being perfect has different meanings for different individuals. You can choose to create your own definition and follow the path to perfection while setting your own goals. Nevertheless, do not be hard on yourself if you are not able to reach perfection; you will always achieve success if you put your mind to it. The following will help you to become the perfect student you dream of:

1. Be part of the class.

Do not isolate yourself from your classmates; you are now part of them. Introduce yourself to your classmates, professors, and other influential people. You could exchange numbers, if possible. Arriving earlier to class will not be a bad idea in order to network with others before the lectures begin.

2. Join clubs and meetups:

Joining clubs and meetups will help you find interesting skills and improve on your existing ones. You also have the potential for leadership positions and influencing others with your talents.

3. Do extra:

You can volunteer to lead a group or do some assignments for free. This is another avenue to sharpen your leadership skills and acquire more daring ones.

4. Let your whole being be in the class.

Ask questions and make relevant contributions in the class. If you did not understand anything in the class, ensure you gain clarity on that. This is also an avenue for your professor to get to know you. Make yourself available for others to learn from; be a go-to person who has all the solutions.

5. Focus during lectures:

Snap out of any kind of distraction. Pay uninterrupted attention. Switch off your phone or turn off the notifications.

6. Do not skip classes.

Your classes are the major reason you are in school; everything else is secondary to that. Do not form the habit of recording lectures and reading materials to catch up with the class. There could be some things you would have learned and likely questions to ask if you were present in the class. What about assignments and class updates that you may miss out on?

7. Take good notes and study at your own pace.

Figure out the best way you can learn from taking notes. Writing down everything on the slide will be a waste of time and you may not meet up. Write down the relevant points and expand later. Review your notes as often as possible to get acquainted with the materials. This is a better avenue to do away with cramming, as nothing disappoints more than it.

8. Create study time.

Get a good study routine and follow it judiciously. Find out the best time for you to study and make proper use of it. Also, organize yourself in such a way that you allot time to all your activities so that they do not clash.

Bad Study Habits You Should Drop

As a first-timer at the university, it might be difficult for you to figure out the wrong habits that may ruin your studies. With time, you may get to know them and drop them. But you should not wait to make a mistake before figuring out the solution. Here, we have compiled them to help you overcome them now.

1. Procrastination:

If you keep procrastinating, you might find out that the only time left to study is during the exam period. This will become so stressful for you and you may not still be able to carry all your courses along. This is why having study time is very good. Make sure you follow it faithfully. One more thing: do not let your friends, television, or social media be a distraction point for you. It will make you keep procrastinating while giving attention to the wrong activities. To deal with them, allocate time for all your activities. Know when to have time for your friends, when to watch the television and when to log in to Facebook or Twitter.

2. Studying with the wrong people:

When you choose to study with unscrupulous people or those who are not relevant to your field, it might be difficult for you to enjoy your studies. Get the right study partners who will motivate and support you through the study period. Get to ask one another questions after you have learned on your own. If your study partners make you spend the better part of your time chatting and discussing irrelevant matters, change them.

3. Studying at the wrong place:

Your couch and your bed are the number one wrong places. Avoid them. Test different atmospheres and choose the one that will help you study better. You need not be told that noisy places or places with a lot of activities and fun should be avoided for full concentration.

4. Studying the night before the exam:

The night before the exam should be used for revisions and resting your brain. It will be hard for you to pass the exam if you only studied the night before. If you stick to your study schedule, you will be able to meet up with the exam time. That is why setting your goals and following them step-by-step is very beneficial.

5. What worked for others might not work for you.

Take out your time and explore your world to discover the best practices to put in place to enable you to graduate with distinctions. As a first-time student, you have all the time to do whatever you need to. Do not waste them on things that do not matter.

Qualities Expected of a Good Student

As a new student, we have helped you to put down some good qualities a good student must possess. We believe you will find them very helpful, so try your best to put them into practice.

1. A good student asks questions:

It is your right to ask questions in any area where you lack clarity. Even your professor is very willing to receive your questions because it shows that you are paying attention. Asking questions is also very beneficial to a class because other students are going to pick something from the answer.

2. He is very hardworking.

It is your duty as a student to work hard in your academic pursuit. Every hardworking person is usually successful if he does not lose focus. Complete your assignment on time, ask for help when you need it, study for tests, quizzes, and examinations, find ways you can improve on your weaknesses, and so on.

3. He is a great leader.

A good student is naturally a leader, both in the classroom and outside. He does not fight to take charge; the onus usually falls upon him without lobbying for it. You could develop the skills if you discover that you lack the grace to lead a group of people.

4. A good student is a problem-solver.

A problem solver has enough access to information that he could use to influence others. It is a very serious skill you need to acquire in order to be on top of the game.

5. He is involved in extracurricular activities:

Getting involved in extracurricular activities is a sure way to build your confidence, which will help you achieve success. There are so many clubs on campus; find a suitable one and get yourself attached to it. Be actively involved in it and be a good team player.

University is a place of fun; ensure you participate in any activity that will enhance your growth. Do not forget that the major reason you have to be there in the first place is your studies. Have a fantastic moment as you begin this journey and may success be your ultimate goal.

My First Day in University/College Essay

Note : Today our topic is My First Day in University/ College Essay. Students who are getting an education in matric and inter class now they are finding.

The first day in college or in a university is always very exciting because of the new environment, new people, and obviously the new educational system. That is why it was a very good and lovely one morning when I was about to leave home for my first day at my university. Excitement was at its peak and adrenaline was flowing through me intensely. I was thrilled as well as slightly nervous regarding the new environment and even a little sad that my previous friends and class fellows were no longer my class fellows now, but that is just life as old people leave so that new ones are being made.

It was my first day at the university, College so I decided to wear one of the most decent and presentable dresses from my wardrobe and I took my bike and left for the university. All the way to my university several things were going through my mind regarding the new university, new friends and teachers, and how I will be able to come up with the adjustments. As soon as I reached the campus my eyes glowed as I saw the enormous and extraordinarily crafted campus of my university. I was still wondering about the campus when I got into a student who was walking, and the wheel of my bike banged into his ankle. He was hurt, I got to him, apologized, and was glad to see that he was not that hurt. After the apology we both introduced ourselves and I was again surprised that he was my class fellow and later became my very close friend.

My First Day in University Essay

When we both reached the center of the campus on my first day in University there were our seniors who were ragging the juniors and newcomers, and they were instructed to do very idiotic and very nonsense activities and tasks. We both were very annoyed with it and at the same time were slightly worried as well that this might also happen to us. And for that reason, we started to move away from them and tried to stay as much away from them as possible.

But our escape was not so productive as we both were being caught in the university café and it was time for us to be ragged, and what I got was so embarrassing. I was being prescribed to present a flower to a girl who was in my class fellow and was also a newcomer and even had to say to her that I LOVE You. This was just too much but we were forced to do it and I did that, but thanks to a girl who didn’t take it seriously as she was also aware of what was going on.

We then made our way to the class where there were several other students both male and female. We started conversations so that we could introduce ourselves and that is again what our teacher made us do. Our first lecture was so good and informative and it was the only lecture of our first day, after which we made our way back home. The first day was very much exciting, memorable, and pleasant.

  • What happened?
  • How did you feel on that day?

Sample Answer

The first day at school or college can be nerve-racking, especially when you are not acquainted with anyone who is already there. Such experiences often leave a lasting impression on a person. Although I don’t have a definitive memory of my first day at college, I can recollect my first day at school like it was yesterday. The name of my school was Birla Bharati and I joined this school as a Class 2 student.

I remember the journey from my house to the school gates distinctly. My father escorted me to the school premises on his motorbike. Once we reached the school, my father walked me up to the point where the parents of the students were allowed. I remember asking my father to come to pick me up after school, to which he agreed by nodding his head and then kissing me on the cheek. Since I was only 8 to 9 years old at the time, I had no clue where my classroom was. Eventually, a security guard was kind enough to ask me why I was standing in the hallway and, upon knowing my predicament, helped me find my way to my designated classroom.

My mind was engrossed by fear and nervousness as I was not familiar with a single person in this new place. I remember sitting on the first bench and breaking down into tears. However, a senior student who was on the way to the morning assembly noticed my state and tried to console me. He then held my hand on the way to the assembly hall, and I remember feeling a little bit lighter as my classes started after the morning assembly.

  • Nerve-racking

Meaning: causing stress or anxiety. Eg.: The job of a theatre actor can be quite nerve-racking.

Meaning: enduring or able to endure over a long period of time. Eg.: The film made a lasting impression on many young people.

  • Predicament

Meaning: a difficult, unpleasant, or embarrassing situation. Eg.: Thomas was the only person responsible for his current predicament.

Meaning: absorb all the attention or interest. Eg.: All the children in the classroom were engrossed in the new Disney movie that was being played.

Meaning: comfort (someone) at a time of grief or disappointment. Eg.: Everyone tried to console David for his terrible loss.

Part 3 – Follow up Questions

Do you think students should be taken to school by their parents or go by themselves.

Whether students should be accompanied on their journey to school by their parents or not is a decision that should be made keeping in mind the student’s age. I believe that students should be taken to school by their parents up to a certain age. Such a practice helps calm students down, especially at a very young age. However, it is also important to let children go to school on their own when they are old enough.

Should children rely on their parents or be independent?

Parents are known to take care of their children and all their needs and demands up to a certain age. For instance, in the western culture, children are required to have a job by the time they are 18 years old in many cases. On the other hand, children tend to live with their parents well after they have reached adulthood in the eastern culture, especially in Asian countries. I believe that both these approaches have their benefits. However, if children are habituated to taking care of their responsibilities from a young age, they tend to have an easier time living independently.

How can children become more independent?

There are several ways children can learn to be more independent in life. One of the ways through which parents teach their children to be more responsible is by giving them household chores. Some parents also provide an allowance to their children, which helps them learn how to manage their finances at a young age. Children should also be encouraged to make significant decisions in their lives by their parents. Such a practice will help them be more decisive.

What is the effect if parents interfere with children’s life too much?

It is a common dilemma whether parents should be involved in their children’s lives in a major or minor way. Many parents believe that it is pivotal to be a part of their children’s decisions. In many cases, such practices may prove to be beneficial, whereas, on the other hand, they can also lead to undesirable consequences. Such a dynamic can often lead to children being irresolute and hesitant when making decisions on their own.

  • Accompanied

Meaning: go somewhere with (someone) as a companion or escort. Eg.: He accompanied his grandmother on her visit to the hospital.

Meaning: make or become accustomed or used to something. Eg.: Everyone in the neighbourhood was habituated to the extremely noisy surroundings.

Meaning: having or showing the ability to make decisions quickly and effectively. Eg.: In order to be a team leader, one needs to be decisive.

Meaning: a situation in which a difficult choice has to be made between two or more alternatives Eg.: They were in a dilemma regarding the choice of dessert at the ceremony.

Meaning: showing or feeling hesitancy; uncertain. Eg.: A poker play cannot afford to be irresolute during tough and expensive decisions.

I recall my first day at university, when I had to wait all summer to enrol. I was both thrilled and anxious as it was my first day in university, and I didn’t know anybody. My first day at the university went well, and he gave me his love and pain. I had no idea how to locate my classroom.

I felt shy to ask someone. I was looking for my classroom until one girl helped me. Her name is Lily. She became my best friend until now. We always hangout together and help each other when we have problem. In the university, I met a lot of friends from different countries and cultures. The university life is very interesting because you can learn not only academics but also social skills. Education is important but making friends is also important in your life. I am grateful for my first day in the university because it changed my life forever.

I was unfamiliar with the area, so I had to ask one person how to get there. This individual was really helpful and advised me in the proper direction. I couldn’t locate my classroom after being late for class. When I arrived at school, I noticed some people and felt strange. nI went up to one girl and asked if she knew where the classroom was. It’s fantastic when you know you’re in the same group; otherwise, I would have been really frightened.

After class, we all went to the cafeteria together and had lunch. It was a fantastic experience for me overall! nI’m glad that I was able to make new friends on my first day in university. Education is important, but so are the connections you make while learning.

We became friends. And this is the beginning of my first day in university. Education is very important for people in society to have better life and jobs. It’s a great chance for me to go to university, I want to make full use of it. This is the beginning of my first day in university, I will try my best to achieve good results. University is not only a place for academic learning, but also a place for students to socialize and make friends. I hope I can make more friends in university and we can help each other in our studies.

When school began, we entered the classroom. Nobody spoke; everyone was quiet. The instructor arrived ahead of time. She started the class, and I afterwards presented myself to the class. People from across the country came to attend; they were nice and attentive. I sat next to tip and talked a lot while he told me about his life back home in Africa.

We became friends. Education is important, and the university is a great place to learn. It was my first day in the university and I enjoyed it very much.

Education is important, and the university is a great place to learn. It was my first day in the university and I enjoyed it very much. I met many new people and made some great friends. The university experience is truly unique and one that I will never forget.

Then we spent the rest of the day together before returning home. We felt that we had a lot in common with one another, day by day. At university, we have been best pals and frequently assisted each other in studies and in life.

It was my first day in the university. I remember it very well. I woke up early that day because I wanted to make sure that I wouldn’t be late on my first day.

I was so excited to start my new life as a university student. When I arrived at the campus, I saw many students walking around and some were sitting on the benches, enjoying the sunny weather.

Then, I saw a girl who looked lost and confused. I decided to approach her and introduce myself. We talked for a while and found out that we were both new students.

Finally, it was on a Saturday that I first saw her. Her brown caramel eyes gave me the chills as I had never seen anything so lovely. Her complexion was a russet color, while her hair was a shady black. The moment when we first met each other is etched in my memory. My heart was beating loudly in my chest as her gaze fell upon me in that little room, and I still hear it throbbing inside of me.

It felt like time had frozen as we just looked at each other. I was entranced by her beauty. Eventually, we were both able to move and I introduced myself to her. Her name was Lily and she was from the United States. We talked for a while and I found out that she was studying Education at the University of Washington. I told her that I was also studying Education but at a different university. We exchanged numbers and promised to keep in touch.

I never imagined that we would become such good friends. Lily has always been there for me, even when I am feeling low. She is one of the most compassionate and caring people I know. Education is important to both of us and we often discuss our passion for it.

Education has always been important to me. My parents placed a great emphasis on it and I always strived to do my best. When I got into university, I was determined to make the most of my education and get good grades.

I remember my first day at university vividly. I was so excited to start my journey but I was also a little nervous. I didn’t know anyone at university and I was worried about making friends. However, as soon as I met Lily, all of those worries dissipated. She made me feel comfortable and welcomed me into her group of friends.

Since that first day, university has been an amazing experience. I have made so many friends and learned so much.

Essay on My First Day in School in 100 words

It was a cloudy day when I took my first step into the compound of my school. I was carrying a new backpack that was filled with notebooks. Though the backpack was a bit heavy, instead of focusing on the weight, I was excited about the beginning of my journey on my first day in school.

My classroom was at the end of the corridor. As I entered my classroom, my class teacher introduced me to the class and made me feel welcome. Activities like reading, solving problems in groups, and sharing our lunch boxes slowly and steadily transformed the new student with a sense of belonging.

The whole day progressed with mixed excitement as well as emotions. As the bell rang, declaring the end of the school day, the school felt like a world of possibilities where the journey was more than textbooks.

As a school student, I was about to enter a new world.

The corridor was filled with the echo of students. As I entered the classroom, wearing a mix of curiosity and excitement, my classmates and class teacher welcomed me with a warm smile. After a round of introductions and some warm-up activities, strangers gradually started tuning into potential friends. At lunchtime, the cafeteria was filled with the smell of delicious food. However, I hesitated before joining the group of students but soon enough, I was laughing with my new friends and sharing stories. The unfamiliar were now my friends and transformed my mixed emotions into delightfulness.

My first day in school started by stepping onto the school bus with a bag full of books and a heart full of curiosity. It was like I was starting a new chapter in my life. After traveling a long way back, I stepped at the gate of my school. The school gate welcomed me with open arms and greeted me with a sense of excitement as well as nervousness.

As I entered the classroom, I found many new faces. Arranging my stuff on the seat, I sat next to an unknown, who later on turned into the best friend of my life. I entered my class with a welcoming smile, and later on, I turned everything in with ease. During our lunchtime, the cafeteria was filled with the energy of students.

At first, I hesitated to interact with the children, but later on, I was a part of a group that invited me to join the table. At lunchtime, I made many new friends and was no longer a stranger. After having delicious food and chit-chatting with friends, we get back to our respective classrooms. Different subjects such as mathematics, science, and English never left the same impact as they did on the first day of school.

The teacher taught the lessons so interestingly that we learned the chapter with a mix of laughter and learning. At the end of the day, we all went straight to the playground and enjoyed the swings. Moreover, in the playground, I also met many faces who were new to the school and had their first day in school, like me.

The morning, which was full of uncertainty at the end of the day, came to an end with exciting adventures and endless possibilities. With new experiences, I look forward to new academic and personal growth in the wonderful world of education.

The 2nd of march, 2015 year was the day that helped me to overcome one of my greatest fears. This was my first day at one of the most prestigious universities in Uzbekistan and nothing was familiar. I had just entered the doors of INHA University and started my life-changing journey.

I was trying to find the lecture room, but eventually I got lost in the labyrinth of the majestic building. I was embarrassed and many questions were running in my head. Where was my class? Where was the professor’s room? How should I behave with new classmates? However, all this questions were minor in comparison with my main fear. I began to panic.

From my earliest childhood, I was introvert. Therefore, I was afraid of talking to new people because I might look foolish and embarrass myself or just because I thought that, I could do everything by myself. In addition, by reason of nervousness I could start to stammer. Anyway, I had to find someone to help me because I could not be late for the first lesson!

Scraps of foreign speech were traveling from the room at the end of long corridor. Gathering courage, I decided to enter that room and ask for the help. Fortunately, a passing manager asked me if I have problems and kindly offered to accompany me to the classroom.

In a minute, we took a lift and I was on the threshold of the auditorium. To make a step forward was the most difficult action because the noisy classroom was full of new faces. Almost all places were occupied and I sat at the end of the row. In 5 minutes, the calculus professor Lee Yoon Weon came and silence reigned. Subject was not simple, but that was just a starter. I faced some difficulties related to educational process, but my classmates were very kind and were ready to help me at any time. Thereby I made new acquaintances. By the end of the day, I had learnt a lesson.

After the first day at INHA University, I understood that all problems can/could be solved much faster and easier, when you have a supporter. People around us not angry and always willing to help, just forget about your fears and make step forward to them!

My First Day at College – Short Essay

Category: Essays and Paragraphs On January 13, 2019 By Ananda

My First Day at College was a memorable day for me. I had butterflies in my stomach. I was wearing my newly bought uniform and shoes. My bag was on my shoulder and I was nervous so much I kept adjusting my tie. The huge halls of the college building were decked with the portraits of the founders of the college.

As I sat through my orientation I was feeling more confident in my abilities thanks to the words of the Dean. He was a short man with a dominating personality. The rumors about him were that he was tough but fair. Later, I would come to respect his man as my mentor.

My first day began with orientation in which I was introduced to the teachers and the staff. We were apprised of our duties and the college’s code of conduct. Once the orientation was over we were free to roam the college and familiarize ourselves with the place for the day. First day classes were introductions for five minutes only. It was up to us to sign up for our optional courses . Our compulsory classes began in full form though. We were handed our course lists and instructed to do a reading of initial pages.

I made friends quickly with a bunch of like-minded boys who I would later call my brothers. It was a boarding college so, I was glad to discover my new friends would be sharing the room with me. My first day at college was off to a great start.

I explored the college grounds with my new friends that evening. We hiked through the woods in the back. The college was built on vast acres of lands. Prominent people of society had funded generously to construct the building. It was ensured that all facilities were at the disposal of teacher and students. I particularly enjoyed the tour of the computer lab, garden and the library.

Symposium to Explore Significance of 18th-Century Philosopher’s Essay on Perpetual Peace in Today’s World

dove fluttering its wings

A one-day symposium April 19, supported by the Central New York Humanities Corridor, will explore how philosopher Immanuel Kant’s 1795 essay “Toward Perpetual Peace” can help lay the foundation for lasting peace.

Philosopher Immanuel Kant’s 1795 essay “Toward Perpetual Peace” still holds significant relevance even now more than two centuries after it was first published. With ongoing wars across the globe, securing peace remains elusive.

An upcoming one-day symposium will explore how Kant’s principles can help lay the foundation for lasting peace. The symposium is supported by the Central New York Humanities Corridor , whose administrative home is based at the Syracuse University Humanities Center . The event, “ The Contemporary Relevance of Perpetual Peace, ” will be held Friday, April 19, at Cornell University, with a symposium and workshop on one of Kant’s most widely read essays, Zum ewigen Frieden (“Toward Perpetual Peace”).

The symposium, as part of the Perpetual Peace Project , is organized by Gregg Lambert , Dean’s Professor of the Humanities in the College of Arts and Sciences and a founder and co-director of the Perpetual Peace Project, and Peter Gilgen , director of the Institute for German Cultural Studies and associate professor in the Department of German Studies and Graduate Field of Comparative Literature at Cornell University.

The Perpetual Peace Project, an ongoing international forum on the concept of peace, began as an initiative of the Humanities Center in 2008.

Gregg Lambert

Gregg Lambert

“The purpose of the project is to raise awareness and attention to the fact that war is not one regional issue,” Lambert says. “It is a global issue, and the number of wars only seems to increase each year.”

Open to the public, Friday’s symposium, which also is a celebration of Kant’s 300th birthday, will begin with three individual papers that examine different aspects of Kant’s treatise and its contemporary relevance.

“Kant’s popular essay was reviewed and cited as an inspiration by numerous thinkers from the start,” Gilgen says. “Anyone thinking about peace and what it means and implies had/has to take Kant’s profound remarks into account.”

The treatise served as an inspiration for the League of Nations, the first worldwide intergovernmental organization, founded in 1920, as well as its successor organization, the United Nations, in 1945.

“At the symposium, we hope to draw on a wide audience interested in Kant’s political philosophy as well as the theory and practice of peace—a topic that could not be more timely in light of the many ongoing conflicts in different parts of the world,” Gilgen says.

The second half of the event is dedicated to a workshop on the Perpetual Peace Project.

Lambert, who is also founding director of the Syracuse University Humanities Center in the College of Arts and Sciences, and Adam Nocek , associate professor in the School of Arts, Media and Engineering, Arizona State University, and co-director of the Perpetual Peace Project, will present the workshop, which will launch the Perpetual Peace Academy. The academy will feature a curriculum created by faculty from all over the world, contributing designs of courses that they would teach in a virtual setting.

“We are really trying to engage students on all campuses and other participants in talking about the Perpetual Peace Project, and then we’re going to inaugurate the Perpetual Peace Academy,” Lambert says. “The academy will be driven by international faculty who want to contribute their ideas from across the disciplines.”

Along with his presence at the symposium, Nocek also joined Lambert in Lambert’s undergraduate seminar, Problems in Marxism: Perpetual Peace , Tuesday for a discussion with students, and other participants, about the Perpetual Peace Academy. Nocek’s time at the symposium and in the seminar is supported as part of Syracuse University’s Distinguished Visiting Collaborator (DVC) initiative of the CNY Humanities Corridor.

Vivian May, director of the SU Humanities Center and lead director of the CNY Humanities Corridor, says the scholar mini-residency bridges the Syracuse University campus with another corridor campus, a model that deepens collaborative networks.

“In conversation with Lambert, Gilgen, and a range of other interlocutors over the course of his visit,  Adam Nocek , founding director of the Center for Philosophical Technologies at Arizona State University, will discuss the importance of philosopher Immanuel Kant’s yet-to-be-realized concept of ‘perpetual peace,’” May says. “I encourage everyone who can to engage with this year’s DVC events and activities, as they offer an important opportunity for us to step back, refuse broad acceptance of violence and devastation, and actively pursue planetary peace—a peace that centers climate justice and holistic thriving.”

Since its start in 2008, the Perpetual Peace Project, structured around Kant’s six preliminary articles, has gone through three phases, with the first at Syracuse University and the United Nations in New York. This first phase included a co-edited and re-issue of a new book publication of Kant’s “Perpetual Peace” and several different events.

In partnership with the Humanities Center and the Centre for Humanities at Utrecht University in the Netherlands, the second phase from 2013-15 included a series of events commemorating the Treaty of Utrecht and a documentary film.

This latest phase has reinaugurated the project following the invasion of Ukraine by Russia in 2022. Lambert partnered with Nocek to kick off this latest phase, including a launch event conference at the University of Warsaw, Poland, followed by conferences at the Institute of Philosophy of the Czech Academy and the Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem, both in the Czech Republic.

Friday’s symposium features a presentation by Gilgen, moderated by Elke Siegel, German studies, Cornell; a presentation by Patchen Markell, associate professor, government, Cornell, and moderated by Karin Nisenbaum , Renée Crown Professor in the Humanities and assistant professor, College of Arts and Sciences, Syracuse University; and a presentation by Neil Saccamano, associate professor, literatures in English, Cornell, and moderated by Verena Erlenbusch-Anderson , associate professor, philosophy, College of Arts and Sciences, Syracuse University.

For this latest phase, Lambert edited a new version of Kant’s original treatise, which has been published and is available for event participants.
