Step 6: Select Edit info on the right.

Step 7: A new window will open, instructing you to Edit email address . You will see your current name and a white box for you to fill a new name out. Type in the new name that you want people to see and check the circle on the left to enable it. When finished, choose Save changes ,

Step 8: Note : This will change how your name appears when someone receives an email from you. It will not change how your Gmail address itself appears. If you’d prefer to change your Gmail, you will have to create a new Gmail account entirely and choose a username that hasn’t been taken. However, in the Edit info box, you can choose a separate Reply-to address if you prefer responses to your emails to go elsewhere.

Troubleshooting

If you saved your changes but your emails still show your old email, you should try an additional step. Go to your browser settings, clear your cache and cookies, and wait for the process to complete. Then close the browser and relaunch it. This can help Gmail to finalize your changes. Just remember to save any browser work you may have been doing before you begin.

If you have a Gmail account, you've probably checked it from your phone before. With our emails containing countless personal emails about our health, financial status, and hobbies, it's good practice to log out sometimes, especially if you frequently let others borrow your phone.

Unfortunately, if you've accessed your Gmail account on your iPhone, you may have discovered something odd. It isn't easy to log out. That's frustrating, but we've got solutions.

Changing the default browser is a great way to improve your Windows 11 web-browsing experience. If you've got a favorite -- we're willing to bet it's Chrome -- then you can switch the default browser in Windows 11 so that you aren't always closing down Edge before launching your preferred browser.

Here's how to change the default browser in Windows 11 in just a few quick steps.

Are you on the verge of running out of Gmail storage? Has it already happened? This might feel like a nightmare scenario and that if you don't act fast you're going to miss important emails. Don't fret, this is a really easy fix and there are two primary ways to do it: Increase your storage size by upgrading your Google One account, or cleaning out files and emails you don't need. Fortunately for that second part, you don't have to do it all manually.

Here's what to do if you run out of space in Gmail.

Gmail: how to change your display name on your email.

It's easy to change your identity in Gmail

Your Gmail display name is as essential as the email address. It's the first thing the recipient sees when you send an email via Gmail on a desktop, phone, or premium Chromebook . But a lot can change over time, including your last name, organization, or company role. If your current email display name no longer reflects your identity, here's how to change it through the Gmail app on your smartphone or the web version on your computer.

The difference between your email display name and username in a Gmail account

Let's clear up some confusion. Your Gmail display name and Gmail username are two different things. Your Gmail username is associated with your email address. If your email address is [email protected] , you can't edit it. It's your primary email address across Google services. There's no way to change it.

Google only allows you to edit the recovery email, contact email, or alternate email associated with your primary Gmail ID. However, you can change your Gmail name (or the display name) that goes with every email you send through Gmail.

Check email name in Gmail

To check your email account name and username, open your email in a browser and hover the cursor on the circular account profile picture in the upper-right corner. You'll see your account's name (email name) and username (email address). It should be the same across other Google services if you haven't altered your Gmail display name. Either way, changing it is relatively easy.

Change your Gmail name from the Google account

There are two ways to modify your Gmail identity: change your Google account name or create a unique name that appears on the emails you send. Changes made to the former will reflect across all Google apps, and you can do it through any Google app on Android and iOS or via the web.

Change your Gmail name on Android

  • Open the Google app or Gmail on your Android phone.
  • Tap your circular account picture in the upper-left corner.

Open your google account on mobile

  • Tap the pencil icon beside your name.

It might take a while to see the updated display name in Gmail and other Google apps.

You can check your Google storage breakdown from the same menu. If you're running out of storage, consider subscribing to one of the Google One plans.

Change your name in Gmail on your iPhone or iPad

The Google app doesn't come preinstalled on your iPhone or iPad. You must download it from the App Store and follow these steps to change your name in Gmail.

  • Download and install the Google app on your iPhone or iPad.
  • Open the Google app and sign in with your account details.

open your google account on iPhone

  • Move to the Personal info tab.

Open account info in iPhone

  • Tap the edit button beside the current name and authenticate your account again. You can set your nickname from the same menu.

How to change your display name in Gmail

Modifying your Google account display name will reflect on all Google apps, including Gmail. But if you want to carry a different identity on the emails you send (and what people see when they mail you), change your display name in Gmail. It only takes a few steps to make the necessary changes, but you'll need the desktop version, as you can't do it through the Gmail mobile app.

  • Open Gmail on a desktop browser and sign in.
  • Click the gear icon in the upper-right corner.

Opening Gmail settings interface.

  • Move to the Accounts and Import tab.
  • Go to the Send mail section and check your email name and address.

Editing your information in Gmail

  • Click the radio button beside the blank box and type a new name.

If you change your mind, you can edit the display name again or revert to the original email name from the same menu. Changing your Google account name in the future won't reflect on your new Gmail display name unless you revert to the original email name.

If you don't have access to a computer, open Gmail as a desktop site in your mobile browser to change the display name.

Why does my Gmail name not change?

If your company turned off the option to change your Gmail name, you can't edit it on the desktop or mobile apps. Also, don't change your Gmail name frequently. Sometimes, it takes 24 to 48 hours for your new name to become live on Gmail, and it may remain the same if you edited it recently.

What if someone uses my trademark in their Gmail address?

If you think someone created a new email address using your trademarked name, contact the person to fix the issue. Google doesn't verify or control email addresses created by users. Keep your email name in the check

A lot can change over the years, including your name or organization. Make sure yours is up-to-date so that the emails you send have the correct credentials. Introduction

Email has become an integral part of our personal and professional lives. It is not just a means of communication but also a representation of our identity. Your email name, also known as the display name, is the name that appears in the recipients’ inbox when they receive an email from you. It is important to have an email name that accurately reflects your personal or business brand.

But what if you’ve outgrown your current email name or simply want to change it for personal reasons? Thankfully, changing your email name is a relatively straightforward process. In this article, we will guide you through the steps to change your email name and ensure a smooth transition.

We will cover everything from checking if you can change your email name to updating your email display name, backing up your emails and contacts, informing your contacts about the change, updating your email signature, and even making changes to your social media and online profiles. By the end of this article, you will have all the information you need to successfully change your email name.

So, if you’re ready to give your email a fresh new look and make it more reflective of who you are or what your business represents, let’s dive into the step-by-step process of changing your email name.

Why Change Your Email Name?

Your email name is a significant part of your online identity. It is the first thing people see when they receive an email from you, and it can leave a lasting impression. Here are a few reasons why you might consider changing your email name:

  • Personal Branding: If you are using your email for professional purposes, having a personalized email name can help promote your personal brand. It allows you to present yourself in a more professional manner and establish credibility.
  • Business Rebranding: If you are a business owner or working for a company, changing your email name can be essential during a rebranding phase. It allows your email address to align with your new brand identity and ensures consistency across all communication channels.
  • Outgrowing Your Current Name: Sometimes, we may outgrow our current email name, whether it’s an outdated nickname or a generic username. Changing your email name can give you a fresh start and help you project a more mature or professional image.
  • Privacy Concerns: If you’ve been using an email name that reveals too much personal information, such as your full name or birthdate, changing your email name can enhance your privacy and protect your identity from potential online threats.
  • Personal Preference: Ultimately, changing your email name can simply be a matter of personal preference. Whether you want to add a middle name, initials, or a more unique identifier, changing your email name allows you to personalize your online presence.

Keep in mind that changing your email name may require some effort to update your contacts, email signature, and online profiles. However, the benefits of a new and improved email name outweigh the minor inconveniences.

Now that you understand why changing your email name can be beneficial, let’s proceed to the step-by-step process of actually making this change.

Step 1: Check if You Can Change Your Email Name

Before diving into the process of changing your email name, it’s crucial to ensure that the email service provider you’re using allows such modifications. While most popular email providers allow users to change their email name, it’s still a good idea to verify the availability of this feature.

Here are the steps to check if you can change your email name:

  • Login to Your Email Account: Open your web browser and navigate to the login page of your email service provider. Enter your credentials to access your email account.
  • Visit Account Settings: Once you’re logged in, locate the “Account Settings” or “Settings” option in your email account. It is usually found in the top-right corner of the interface.
  • Look for Personal Information or Profile: In the Account Settings or Settings menu, search for options related to personal information or profile settings. Different email service providers may label these options differently, but their purpose is to manage your account details.
  • Check for the Email Name Change Option: Within the Personal Information or Profile settings, look for an option that allows you to change your email name. It may be labeled as “Display Name,” “Sender Name,” or something similar. If you find this option, you can proceed with the name change process. If not, it means that your email service provider does not provide the feature to change your email name.

If you discover that your email service provider does not offer the capability to change your email name, you may need to consider creating a new email account with a different name. This option may involve migrating your emails, contacts, and informing your contacts about the change.

Once you confirm that you can change your email name, you’re ready to move on to the next step: backing up your emails and contacts to ensure a smooth transition.

Step 2: Backup Your Emails and Contacts

Before proceeding with any changes to your email account, it is crucial to backup your emails and contacts to avoid any potential loss of important information. By creating a backup, you can have peace of mind knowing that your data is safe and can be easily restored if needed.

Here’s how you can backup your emails and contacts:

  • Email Backup: Most email service providers offer the option to export or backup your emails. Login to your email account, navigate to the settings or options menu, and look for a section related to backup or export. Follow the instructions provided by your email service provider to create a backup file of your emails. Save the backup file to a secure location on your computer or cloud storage.
  • Contact Backup: Exporting your contacts is typically a built-in feature of email services. Locate the contacts or address book section in your email account settings. Look for an option that allows you to export or backup your contacts. Choose the desired format for your backup (such as CSV or VCF) and save the file to a secure location.

By backing up your emails and contacts, you can ensure that even if something goes wrong during the email name change process, you won’t lose any vital information.

Once you have successfully created backups of your emails and contacts, you are ready to move forward and change your email display name. This will be covered in the next step.

Step 3: Update Your Email Display Name

Now that you’ve ensured the availability of the email name change feature and backed up your emails and contacts, it’s time to update your email display name. This is the name that will appear as the sender’s name when recipients receive emails from you.

Follow these steps to update your email display name:

  • Login to Your Email Account: Access your email account using your credentials.
  • Go to Account Settings: Look for the “Account Settings” or “Settings” option within your email interface.
  • Find Personal Information/Profile: Locate the section or tab related to personal information or profile settings.
  • Update Your Display Name: Look for the option to update your email display name. It may be labeled as “Display Name,” “Sender Name,” or similar. Enter the new name you would like to use as your email display name.
  • Save Changes: After entering your new display name, make sure to save the changes. Some email service providers may require you to enter your account password or confirm the changes before they take effect.

Once you have updated your email display name, new emails you send will reflect the updated name in the recipients’ inbox. However, it’s important to note that this change will not affect the email addresses associated with your account. Your email address will remain the same, only the sender’s name will be updated.

Now that you’ve successfully updated your email display name, it’s important to inform your contacts about the change. They need to be aware of your new name to avoid any confusion. We will cover this crucial step in the next section.

Step 4: Inform Your Contacts

After updating your email display name, it’s essential to communicate the change to your contacts to ensure a seamless transition and avoid any confusion. Here are some steps to follow when informing your contacts about the update:

  • Create an Announcement Email: Craft a concise and clear announcement email to inform your contacts about the change in your email name. Include the reason for the change, your new email display name, and the date from which the change will take effect.
  • Address the Email Properly: Send the announcement email to your entire contact list or specific groups, depending on your preference. Ensure that the recipients’ names are correctly entered in the “To” field to personalize the communication.
  • Explain the Reason for the Change: In the announcement email, provide a brief explanation of why you decided to change your email name. This will help your contacts understand and accept the change more easily.
  • Include the New Email Display Name: Clearly state your new email display name in the announcement email. Bold or highlight it to ensure that recipients notice the change.
  • Specify the Effective Date: Inform your contacts about the date from which the change will be implemented. This will give them a heads-up and allow them to update their contact records if necessary.
  • Offer Assistance: Encourage your contacts to reach out if they have any questions or encounter issues with the transition. Provide them with alternative contact methods, such as a phone number or an alternative email address, if applicable.
  • Follow Up: After sending the announcement email, keep an eye out for any responses or questions from your contacts. Address any concerns promptly to ensure a smooth transition.

Remember, it is crucial to be proactive in notifying your contacts to minimize any confusion or disruption in communication. By keeping your contacts informed about the change, you can ensure a seamless transition to your new email name.

In the next step, we will discuss how to update your email signature to reflect the change in your email name. This will help maintain consistency and professionalism in your email communications.

Step 5: Update Your Email Signature

Updating your email signature is an important step after changing your email name. Your email signature provides important contact information and helps establish a professional image. Here’s how to update your email signature:

  • Access Your Email Settings: Login to your email account and navigate to your account settings or preferences.
  • Locate Email Signature: Look for the option to edit or modify your email signature. This is typically found in the settings or personal information section.
  • Edit Your Signature: In the signature editor, update the sender’s name to reflect your new email display name. You may also want to consider making any other necessary changes to your contact information, such as phone number, job title, or website.
  • Customize the Design: Take the opportunity to review and customize the design of your email signature. Consider using a consistent font, colors, and formatting that align with your personal or business brand.
  • Save Changes: After making the necessary updates to your email signature, save the changes. Some email service providers may require you to enable the signature for new emails or apply it to existing ones.

Updating your email signature will ensure that all future outgoing emails reflect your new email name and present a cohesive and professional image to your recipients. Remember to double-check your signature’s alignment, formatting, and any clickable links to ensure they are functioning correctly.

Once you have updated your email signature, it is essential to move on to the next step: updating your social media and online profiles. This will help maintain consistency across all your online platforms.

Step 6: Update Your Social Media and Online Profiles

Updating your social media and online profiles is a crucial step after changing your email name. This ensures that your new email name is reflected consistently across all your online platforms. Here’s what you need to do:

  • Make a List of Profiles: Create a list of all your social media accounts and online profiles associated with your previous email name. This may include platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and any other online platforms where you have a public presence.
  • Login to Each Platform: Visit each social media platform or online profile and log in using your credentials.
  • Update Profile Information: Navigate to the account settings or profile information section of each platform. Look for the option to edit your profile details.
  • Modify Your Email Name: Update your email name to reflect the new name you have chosen. Also, take the opportunity to review and update any other relevant profile information, such as your bio, website URL, or contact information.
  • Save Changes: After making the necessary updates, save the changes to your profile on each platform. Some platforms may require you to confirm the changes or take additional steps to ensure the updates are applied properly.
  • Review Content and Media: While updating your profiles, take the time to review the content you have shared and any media associated with your previous email name. Update or remove any outdated or irrelevant content to align with your new email name and overall branding.
  • Inform Your Network: Consider making a general announcement on your social media platforms informing your network about the change in your email name. This will help spread the word to a wider audience and ensure that your contacts are aware of the update.

By updating your social media and online profiles, you ensure consistency in your online presence and prevent any confusion among your connections. It also helps maintain a professional and cohesive brand across different platforms.

Once you have successfully updated your profiles, it’s time to move on to the final step: testing your new email name to ensure everything is working smoothly.

Step 7: Test Your New Email Name

The final step in the process of changing your email name is to test it to ensure that everything is functioning as expected. By testing your new email name, you can confirm that your emails are being sent and received correctly, and that your contacts are seeing your updated name. Here’s what you need to do:

  • Send Test Emails: Compose a few test emails using your updated email display name. Send these emails to yourself as well as trusted contacts to verify that they are receiving the emails with the correct sender’s name.
  • Check Incoming Emails: Ask your contacts to reply to the test emails you sent. Verify that their replies are correctly addressed to your new email display name and are being delivered to your inbox.
  • Review Email Signature: Double-check your email signature to ensure that it is appearing correctly in the emails you send. Verify that all the contact information and links in your signature are accurate and functioning as intended.
  • Test Attachments and Formatting: Attach files to your test emails and verify that the recipients can download and open them without any issues. Also, check that the formatting of your emails is preserved, including font styles, colors, and any HTML elements.
  • Follow Up with Contacts: Reach out to some of your closest contacts or clients to inquire if they have noticed the change in your email name and if they have encountered any difficulties during the transition. Address any concerns they may have promptly.
  • Monitor Your Inbox: After testing your new email name, keep a close eye on your inbox for any emails that may have been redirected or sent to your old email name. Make sure to update any contacts or systems that are still using your old email address.

By thoroughly testing your new email name, you can have confidence that the change has been successfully implemented. If any issues arise during testing, address them promptly to ensure a smooth and seamless transition.

With the completion of Step 7, you have successfully changed your email name and ensured that it is functioning correctly. Congratulations on completing the process!

Changing your email name can be a significant decision, whether it’s for personal branding or business rebranding purposes. By following the step-by-step process outlined in this article, you can successfully update your email name while maintaining a professional image across all platforms.

Remember to start by checking if your email service provider allows for changing the email name. Take the time to backup your emails and contacts to prevent any data loss. Update your email display name to reflect your new name, and inform your contacts about the change to avoid any confusion.

Additionally, don’t forget to update your email signature to maintain consistency in your communications. Update your social media and online profiles to align with your new email name, and finally, test your new email name to ensure a smooth transition.

Throughout this process, it is essential to be proactive, communicate clearly with your contacts, and address any concerns or questions promptly. By taking these steps, you can successfully change your email name and present yourself or your business in the best possible way.

Remember, changing your email name is just one step towards improving your online identity. Continuously evaluate and update your online presence to align with your personal or business goals. With a strong and consistent online brand, you can make a lasting impression and effectively communicate with others.

Check out Microsoft 365 small business help on YouTube.

You may need to change someone's email address and display name if, for example, they get married and their last name changes.

If you need help with the steps in this topic, consider working with a Microsoft small business specialist . With Business Assist, you and your employees get around-the-clock access to small business specialists as you grow your business, from onboarding to everyday use.

Before you begin

You must be a global admin to complete these steps.

Watch: Change a user's email address, display name or email alias

Check out this video and others on our YouTube channel .

  • In the Microsoft 365 admin center, select Users > Active users .
  • Select the user from the list of active users.
  • Select Manage contact information .
  • Change the display name, and select Save changes .

If you found this video helpful, check out the complete training series for small businesses and those new to Microsoft 365 .

Change a user's email address

  • In the admin center, go to the Users > Active users page.

Select the user's name, and then on the Account tab select Manage username .

In the first box, type the first part of the new email address. If you added your own domain to Microsoft 365, choose the domain for the new email alias by using the drop-down list. Learn how to add a domain .

Select Save changes .

If you get an error message, see Resolve error messages .

Change a user's display name

Select the user's name, and then on the Account tab select Manage contact information .

Update the user's name and contact information.

If you get the error message " We're sorry, the user couldn't be edited. Review the user information and try again , see Resolve error messages .

Add an email alias

For more information on adding an email alias, see Add another email alias for a Microsoft 365 business subscription user .

Set the primary email address

Select the user's name, and then on the Account tab select Manage email aliases .

Select Set as Primary for the email address that you want to set as the primary email address for that person.

You won't see this option to Set as Primary if you purchased Microsoft 365 from GoDaddy or another Partner service that provides a management console. Instead, sign in to the GoDaddy / partner's management console to set the primary alias.

Also, you'll only see this option if you're a global admin. If you don't see the option, you don't have permissions to change a user's name and primary email address.

You'll see a warning that you're about to change the person's sign-in information. Select Save changes , then Close .

Give the person the following information:

This change could take a while.

Their new username. They'll need it to sign in to Microsoft 365.

If they are using Skype for Business Online, they must reschedule any Skype for Business Online meetings that they organized, and tell their external contacts to update their contact information.

If they are using OneDrive, the URL to this location has changed. If they have OneNote notebooks in their OneDrive, they might need to close and reopen them in OneNote. If they have shared files from their OneDrive, the links to the files might not work and the user can reshare.

If their password changed too, they are prompted to enter the new password on their mobile device, or it won't sync.

A person's previous primary email address is retained as an additional email address. We strongly recommend that you don't remove the old email address.

Some people might continue to send email to the person's old email address and deleting it may result in NDR failures. Microsoft automatically routes it to the new one. Also, do not reuse old SMTP email addresses and apply them to new accounts. This can also cause NDR failures or delivery to an unintended mailbox.

Resolve error messages

"a parameter cannot be found that matches parameter name 'emailaddresses".

If you get the error message " A parameter cannot be found that matches parameter name 'EmailAddresses " it means that it's taking a bit longer to finish setting up your tenant, or your custom domain if you recently added one. The setup process can take up to 4 hours to complete. Wait a while so the setup process has time to finish, and then try again. If the problem persists, call support and ask them to do a full sync for you.

"We're sorry, the user couldn't be edited. Review the user information and try again"

If you get the error message " We're sorry, the user couldn't be edited. Review the user information and try again ." it means you aren't a global admin and you don't have permissions to change the user name. Find the global admin in your business and ask them to make the change.

What if the person's offline address book won't sync with the Global Address List?

If they are using Exchange Online or if their account is linked with your organization's on-premises Exchange environment, you might see this error when you try to change a username and email address: "This user is synchronized with your local Active Directory. Some details can be edited only through your local Active Directory."

This is due to the Microsoft Online Email Routing Address (MOERA). The MOERA is constructed from the person's userPrincipalName attribute in Active Directory and is automatically assigned to the cloud account during the initial sync and once created, it cannot be modified or removed in Microsoft 365. You can subsequently change the username in the Active Directory, but it doesn't change the MOERA and you may run into issues displaying the newly changed name in the Global Address List.

To fix this, log in to the Microsoft Graph Powershell with your Microsoft 365 administrator credentials and use the following syntax:

This changes the person's userPrincipalName attribute and has no bearing on their Microsoft Online Email Routing Address (MOERA) email address. It is best practice, however, to have the person's logon UPN match their primary SMTP address.

Changing Display Name in Sent Emails

Is there any way to change how your name displays on sent emails in Outlook for Mobile? When I send an email to somebody, I want it to show as being from me (my name) as opposed to my email address. When I go into the settings, it doesn't appear to allow you to change this. Is there any way to accomplish this?

Thanks for your feedback.

Hello Janbaz, thank you for your reply. Unfortunately this doesn't resolve my problem The instructions you provided are for Outlook for Windows or MacOS. I stated in my query that I am having this issue with Outlook for mobile. I can easily change the setting when sending an email from my computer. The problem is sending emails from my phone. Can you please send instructions as to how to do this on my phone?

Hello Janbaz,

I'm not sure if I'm being clear. I don't want to change the name on my account. I only want to ensure that when I send an email to a recipient, it show up as my name ex. Joe Smith as opposed to *** Email address is removed for privacy ***.

I forgot to mention an important point. I have added an additional account (for business emails) to my outlook account. My personal email has no issues. My display name is as I want it. However with my additional account, I am having a problem changing the display name. It shouldn't be difficult because the display name for both accounts should be the same - my name.

In Outlook (browser version), I am able to put what my display name is. Therefore for example, if my email is *** Email address is removed for privacy ***, I can put my display name as Joe Smith. And everyone who I send an email to, will see that it's from Joe Smith, as opposed to from *** Email address is removed for privacy ***.

I can also do this in the Outlook app on my Macbook.

However, for the Outlook for mobile app, it doesn't allow you to put in your display name. It's greyed out and doesn't allow you to input a name. So therefore all of the emails I send show up as *** Email address is removed for privacy *** as opposed to Joe Smith.

If you can’t remember the password for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch encrypted backup

You can’t restore an encrypted backup without its password. With iOS 11 or later or iPadOS, you can make a new encrypted backup of your device by resetting the password.

On your device, go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset [Device], then tap Reset.

Tap Reset All Settings and enter your device passcode.

Tap Reset All Settings.

Follow the steps to reset your settings. This won't affect your user data or passwords, but it will reset settings like display brightness, Home Screen layout, and wallpaper. It also removes your encrypted backup password.

Connect your device to the Finder, the Apple Devices app, or iTunes again and create a new encrypted backup.

You won't be able to use previous encrypted backups, but you can use the Finder, the Apple Devices app, or iTunes to back up your current data and set a new backup password.

If you have a device with iOS 10 or earlier, you can't reset the password. In this case, try the following:

If someone else set up your device, ask them for the password.

Use an iCloud backup instead. If you don't have an iCloud backup, you can make one .

Use an older Apple Devices app, iTunes, or Finder backup.

How to Change Your Name on Facebook

T here are about three billion people who use Facebook every month, and it makes sense that some of them, whether for privacy reasons or whim, might not always want to use their real name. Or maybe they've changed their name. Whatever the reason, there are a couple of ways you can get this done.

What to know before changing your name

Before you go ahead with your name change, there are a few things you need to keep in mind. Facebook has a few rules under their name standards . Names on the platform cannot have the following:

  • Symbols, numbers, unusual capitalization, repeating characters or punctuation
  • Characters from multiple languages
  • Titles of any kind (example: professional, religious)
  • Words or phrases in place of a name
  • Offensive or suggestive words of any kind

As for what is allowed, Facebook suggests that the name on your profile should be the name your friends or family calls you in real life and should also somewhat match the name that appears on your ID, which Facebook might ask for to verify your account if you have issues accessing your account. Nicknames can be used as first or middle names, as long as they are a variation of your actual name, such as Alex instead of Alexander or Becca in place of Rebecca. Another thing to keep in mind is that you can only change your name on Facebook every 60 days.

How to change your name on Facebook on the desktop site

To change your Facebook name, first head to Facebook.com and log in. Then in the top right where your profile picture is, click it and a drop-down menu should appear. In this menu, select Settings & Privacy and then Settings. On the left side, you should see something called Meta Accounts Center and click where it says See More in Accounts Center .

After that choose Profiles on the left menu and then select your Facebook account. Another pop-up should appear that says, Name, Username, Profile Picture and Avatar . From this list, choose Name and then you'll be given some text boxes for your first name, middle name and last name. Type in the name you want and hit Review Change and then Save Changes to save it. If you're having issues changing your name, you can reach out to Facebook support using this form.

How to change your name on Facebook on mobile

Log in with your account and when you're in the app, choose the Menu tab on the bottom right. Then select Settings & Privacy and then Settings. You should then see See More in Accounts Center , tap that and then select your Facebook profile from Profiles. Tap on name to enter your new name and hit Review Change and then Save Changes to save it.

How to add a nickname on Facebook

Facebook also allows you to use nicknames or alternate names in case you don't want to use your real name. To add a nickname, click your profile icon and tap your name to go to your profile. Next, tap on About and choose Details about you . Next, you should see our About you along with Name pronunciation and Other names . Under Other names . it should say add a nickname, a birth name... —click on that. Then you'll be shown a text box where you can add your nickname, maiden name, etc. You should also see a checkbox to have your other names shown at the top of your profile. To save your other name, just hit the Save button. It's worth mentioning that other names are always public on your Facebook profile, even if people aren't friends with you yet.

How to change your Facebook Page's name

To change the name, first, make sure you have either an Admin or Editor role for your page. Next, log into Facebook and click your profile icon in the top right; you should see your pages listed underneath your personal Facebook profile. If you don't, then click on See all profiles and choose the page you want to switch to. After that, click on your page's profile icon and select Settings & Privacy from the drop-down menu. Then choose settings and you should be brought to the G eneral Page Settings . To change your page's name, click where it says Edit next to the current name. Type in your new name and click Review Change . Once that's done, you'll be asked to enter your Facebook password and then click Request Change to submit your new name. Note that you can only change your page's name every 60 days.

Create a form in Word that users can complete or print

In Word, you can create a form that others can fill out and save or print.  To do this, you will start with baseline content in a document, potentially via a form template.  Then you can add content controls for elements such as check boxes, text boxes, date pickers, and drop-down lists. Optionally, these content controls can be linked to database information.  Following are the recommended action steps in sequence.

Show the Developer tab

In Word, be sure you have the Developer tab displayed in the ribbon.  (See how here:  Show the developer tab .)

Open a template or a blank document on which to base the form

You can start with a template or just start from scratch with a blank document.

Start with a form template

Go to File > New .

In the  Search for online templates  field, type  Forms or the kind of form you want. Then press Enter .

In the displayed results, right-click any item, then select  Create.

Start with a blank document

Select Blank document .

Add content to the form

Go to the  Developer  tab Controls section where you can choose controls to add to your document or form. Hover over any icon therein to see what control type it represents. The various control types are described below. You can set properties on a control once it has been inserted.

To delete a content control, right-click it, then select Remove content control  in the pop-up menu.

Note:  You can print a form that was created via content controls. However, the boxes around the content controls will not print.

Insert a text control

The rich text content control enables users to format text (e.g., bold, italic) and type multiple paragraphs. To limit these capabilities, use the plain text content control .

Click or tap where you want to insert the control.

Rich text control button

To learn about setting specific properties on these controls, see Set or change properties for content controls .

Insert a picture control

A picture control is most often used for templates, but you can also add a picture control to a form.

Picture control button

Insert a building block control

Use a building block control  when you want users to choose a specific block of text. These are helpful when you need to add different boilerplate text depending on the document's specific purpose. You can create rich text content controls for each version of the boilerplate text, and then use a building block control as the container for the rich text content controls.

building block gallery control

Select Developer and content controls for the building block.

Insert a combo box or a drop-down list

In a combo box, users can select from a list of choices that you provide or they can type in their own information. In a drop-down list, users can only select from the list of choices.

combo box button

Select the content control, and then select Properties .

To create a list of choices, select Add under Drop-Down List Properties .

Type a choice in Display Name , such as Yes , No , or Maybe .

Repeat this step until all of the choices are in the drop-down list.

Fill in any other properties that you want.

Note:  If you select the Contents cannot be edited check box, users won’t be able to click a choice.

Insert a date picker

Click or tap where you want to insert the date picker control.

Date picker button

Insert a check box

Click or tap where you want to insert the check box control.

Use the legacy form controls

Legacy form controls are for compatibility with older versions of Word and consist of legacy form and Active X controls.

Click or tap where you want to insert a legacy control.

Legacy control button

Select the Legacy Form control or Active X Control that you want to include.

Set or change properties for content controls

Each content control has properties that you can set or change. For example, the Date Picker control offers options for the format you want to use to display the date.

Select the content control that you want to change.

Go to Developer > Properties .

Controls Properties button

Change the properties that you want.

Add protection to a form

If you want to limit how much others can edit or format a form, use the Restrict Editing command:

Open the form that you want to lock or protect.

Select Developer > Restrict Editing .

Restrict editing button

After selecting restrictions, select Yes, Start Enforcing Protection .

Restrict editing panel

Advanced Tip:

If you want to protect only parts of the document, separate the document into sections and only protect the sections you want.

To do this, choose Select Sections in the Restrict Editing panel. For more info on sections, see Insert a section break .

Sections selector on Resrict sections panel

If the developer tab isn't displayed in the ribbon, see Show the Developer tab .

Open a template or use a blank document

To create a form in Word that others can fill out, start with a template or document and add content controls. Content controls include things like check boxes, text boxes, and drop-down lists. If you’re familiar with databases, these content controls can even be linked to data.

Go to File > New from Template .

New from template option

In Search, type form .

Double-click the template you want to use.

Select File > Save As , and pick a location to save the form.

In Save As , type a file name and then select Save .

Start with a blank document

Go to File > New Document .

New document option

Go to File > Save As .

Go to Developer , and then choose the controls that you want to add to the document or form. To remove a content control, select the control and press Delete. You can set Options on controls once inserted. From Options, you can add entry and exit macros to run when users interact with the controls, as well as list items for combo boxes, .
