Daft Punk 's 1997 debut album took the raw foundation of Chicago house to prog rock levels of high concept and grandiosity... looking over the odd photos and scribbles on the inner sleeves, you’d think you were looking at a Supertramp record, not something inspired by   DJ Deeon . The videos accompanying the album are even weirder... but none of this high art schlock means anything if the tracks don’t bang, and do they! Seeing “Da Funk” and “Around The World” on late night MTV2 lured me in, when I was too young and too green to recognize any of the names shouted out on “Teachers” apart from maybe  Dr. Dre and George Clinton . But I stuck around for “Fresh,” “Oh Yeah,” “Alive,” and perhaps most importantly, “Revolution 909.” Homework is the gateway drug that sent an entire generation of naïve suburban tweens on a quest to find out what records by Todd Edwards , Romanthony , Kenny Dope and  Jeff Mills  sounded like. The first truly great house *album*, and probably still the best. Double vinyl pressing housed in deluxe high-gloss gatefold with printed inner sleeves, recommended.

In celebration of Daft Punk ’s 25th anniversary of their groundbreaking debut album, “Homework” comes the surprise release of “Homework Digital Deluxe.”  The physical boxed set arrives in April; the full track list appears below.

It will be previewed with an unreleased, exclusive and time-limited piece of content showing on 2/22 at 2:22 p.m. PT: a one-off livestream of the “Twitch of the Mayan 97” concert that you can hear here . The concert was filmed at the Mayan Theater in Los Angeles on December 17, 1997, during the “Daftendirektour,” the duo’s first concert tour.

The news comes exactly one year after the vastly influential duo announced their split .

The “Homework 25th Anniversary Edition” contains 15 remixes from the original album (nine of them previously unreleased on streaming services), including Masters At Work, DJ Sneak, Todd Terry, Motorbass, Slam, Ian Pooley, I:Cube, Roger Sanchez & Junior Sanchez. Knowing the ways of Daft Punk, it seems possible that other content could materialize around the set.

Today, the popular group is making waves with a cryptic announcement and now Amazon is putting up two of the duo’s debut album vinyls for pre-order. Debuting as the French electronic music duo’s first studio album, Homework is now celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Pairing with the group’s announcement, the 16-track record includes some of the most iconic dance titles.

That was followed up by Alive 1997, the duo’s first live albums with another fresh list of tracks. Both albums have become staples in the house music scene, making today’s vinyl pre-orders even more exciting for those who have been waiting to add them to their collections. This is also the first reissue for either vinyls in quite some time, too.

Homework's success brought worldwide attention to French house music. Homework charted in 14 different countries, peaking at number 3 on the French Albums Chart, number 150 on the United States Billboard 200 and at number 8 on the UK Albums Chart. By February 2001, the album had sold more than two million copies worldwide and received several gold and platinum certifications.

• In early 2021, Daft Punk announced their breakup. Formed in 1993, the French duo of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter pioneered French house music. in 1997, the debut album "Homework" was released. Daft Punk initially produced tracks with no plans to release an album. After working for five months on projects intended as separate singles, they deemed the material good enough for an album. In particular, the singles "Around the World," "Revolution 909" and "Da Funk" became international successes. The album charted in 14 countries, including #3 on the French album chart, #150 on the United States Billboard 200, #8 in the UK, and #44 in Germany, bringing French house music worldwide attention. It has sold more than 2.5 million copies in 35 countries to date. Today, "Homework" is considered an influential classic of electronic dance music, not least because of its great experimentation with house, punk influences and distorted samples. It was even ranked number one on the "30 best EDM albums of all time." by the music magazine Rolling Stone." voted. Reason enough that it will be reissued again in 2021.

Daft Punk Reissuing Homework on Vinyl, Livestreamed Rare 1997 Concert

Today, on the first anniversary of their breakup , Daft Punk are airing a one-off stream of a rare 1997 concert, recorded before they began wearing helmets. It’s happening right now on Twitch . The livestream footage came from a set that Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter played at Los Angeles nightclub the Mayan around the Homework release. A representative stressed that the show will air only once, and that’s exactly what happened.

The duo has also announced a vinyl reissue of its landmark debut album, Homework , for its 25th anniversary. The Homework vinyl LP and a vinyl reissue of Alive ’97 are out April 15. Homework (25th Anniversary Edition) , which will also get released digitally, includes numerous remixes. Find the tracklist below.
