The word percent means, per hundred or out of hundred. In other word Percentage is the numerator of a fraction with denominator 100. The symbol of percent is % . Let's see some examples where we use percentage in our day-to-day life.

Example 1. John got 85 marks out of hundred marks, then we can say he got 85 percent marks. In fraction form we can write it as 85 ⁄ 100 , here 85 is the mark secured and 100 is the total marks.

Example 2. 30 out of 50 students are girls in a school, then the percentage of girls in the school is 30 ⁄ 50 = 30×2 ⁄ 50×2 = 60 ⁄ 100 = 60%.

To convert percentage into fraction, we must replace the % sign with 1 ⁄ 100 . Finally reduce the fraction to it's simplest form. Let's see some examples.

Examples 1. Express 20% in fraction form. Solution. 20% = 20 ⁄ 100 = 1 ⁄ 5

Example 2. Express 8.5% in fraction form. Solution. 8.5% = 8.5 ⁄ 100 = 85 ⁄ 1000 = 17 ⁄ 200

To convert a fraction into a percentage, we must multiply the fraction by 100 and write a % sign. Let's see some examples.

Example 1. Convert 2 ⁄ 5 into fraction. Solution. 2 ⁄ 5 = 2 ⁄ 5 × 100 = 40%

Example 2. Convert 2 ⁄ 3 into fraction. Solution. 2 ⁄ 3 × 100 = 200 ⁄ 3 = 66 2 ⁄ 3 %

To convert a percentage into a ratio, first we must convert into fraction to it's simplest form and then to a ratio. Let's see some examples.

Examples 1. Express 30% in fraction form. Solution. 30% = 30 ⁄ 100 = 3 ⁄ 10 = 3 : 10

Examples 2. Express 32.5% in fraction form. Solution. 32.5% = 32.5 ⁄ 100 = 325 ⁄ 1000 = 13 ⁄ 40 = 13 : 40

Examples 3. Express 22 2 ⁄ 5 % in fraction form. Solution. 22 2 ⁄ 5 % = 112 ⁄ 5 ÷ 100 = 112 ⁄ 5 × 1 ⁄ 100 = 28 ⁄ 125 = 28 : 125

To convert a ratio into percentage, first we have to convert the given ratio into a fraction and then convert into a percentage. Let's see some examples.

Examples 1. Express 2 : 5 in percentage form. Solution. 2 : 5 = 2 ⁄ 5 = 2 ⁄ 5 × 100 = 40%

Examples 2. Express 5 : 8 in percentage form. Solution. 5 : 8 = 5 ⁄ 8 = 5 ⁄ 8 × 100 = 0.625 × 100 = 62.5%

To convert a percentage into a decimal, first convert the percentage into a fraction and then convert fraction into decimal. Let's see some examples.

Example 1. Convert 72% into decimal. Solution. 72% = 72 ⁄ 100 = 0.72

Example 2. Convert 175% into decimal. Solution. 175% = 175 ⁄ 100 = 1.75

Example 3. Convert 38.5% into decimal. Solution. 38.5% = 38.5 ⁄ 100 = 0.385

To convert a decimal into a percentage, we have to multiply the decimal by 100 and put % sign. Let's see some examples.

Example 1. Convert 0.65 into percentage. Solution. 0.65 = 0.65 × 100 = 65%

Example 2. Convert 2.75 into percentage. Solution. 2.75 = 2.75 × 100 = 275%

To find a percentage of a given quantity, we must change the percentage into fraction and then multiply it by the given quantity. Let's see some examples.

Example 1. What is the value of 25% of 60? Solution. 25% of 60 = 25 ⁄ 100 × 60 = 60 ⁄ 4 = 15

Example 2. Find the value of 15% of Rs. 80. Solution. 15% of Rs. 80 = 15 ⁄ 100 × 80 = 3 ⁄ 20 × 80 = 3 × 4 = Rs. 12

To express one quantity as a percentage of another same quantity, we must divide one quantity with the other quantity and then multiply the result with 100.

Let's see some examples.

Example 1. Express 25 as a percentage of 75. Solution. Percentage = ( 25 ⁄ 75 × 100)%         = 33 1 ⁄ 3 %

Example 2. Express 500 grams as percentage of 2.5 kg. Solution. 2.5 kg = 2500 grams Percentage = 500 ⁄ 2500 × 100 = 20%

Let's see some examples to understand this.

Example 1. A cycle was costing Rs. 4500 last year, but this year it is costing Rs. 5000. Find the percentage increase in the price. Solution. Original price = Rs. 4500 Rise in price = Rs. 5000 − Rs. 4500 = Rs. 500 Percentage increase = 500 ⁄ 4500 × 100 = 100 ⁄ 9 = 11 1 ⁄ 9 % Hence, the price has increased by 11 1 ⁄ 9 %

Example 2. Price of orange per kilogram is Rs. 60 last year. This year orange price is Rs. 50 pr kilogram. Find the percentage decrease in price. Solution. Original price = Rs. 60 Fall in price = Rs. 60 − Rs. 50 = Rs. 10 Percentage decrease = 10 ⁄ 60 × 100 = 100 ⁄ 6 = 50 ⁄ 3 = 16 2 ⁄ 3 % Hence, the price has decreased by 16 2 ⁄ 3 %

Let's see some real life problems on percentage.

Example 1. In a school of 200 students, 45% students are boys. How many girls are present in the school? Solution. Boys percentage in the school is 45%. Girls percentage in the school = 100 − 45 = 55% Number of girls in the school = 55% of 200 = 55 ⁄ 100 × 200 = 110 So, the number of girls present in the school is 110.

Example 2. Population of a country is 750000. It is forecasted that the population of the country will rise by 6% after 10 years. What will be the population of country after 10 years. Solution. Population of the country = 750000 Rise in population = 6% of 750000       = 6 ⁄ 100 × 750000 = 45000 Total population after 10 years = 750000 + 45000 = 795000 So, the population of the country after 10 years will be 795000.

Example 3. 25% of a number is 75, then find the number. Solution. Let's assume the number is 'a'.       25% of a = 75       => 25 ⁄ 100 × a = 75       => a = 75 × 100 ⁄ 25       => a = 300 So, the number is 300.

Example 4. John bought a motor bike at a discount of 25% and he saved 15000. What was the price of the motorbike before discount? Solution. Let's assume original price of the motorbike is 'q'.       q − 25% of q = 15000       => q − 25q ⁄ 100 = 15000       => 100q−25q ⁄ 100 = 15000       => 75q ⁄ 100 = 15000       => q = 15000 × 100 ⁄ 75       => q = 20000 So, the original price of the motorbike is Rs. 20000

Most assignments are divided into two parts: laboratory exercises and homeworks. Laboratory exercises are expected to be done with more assistance from the TAs and LAs.

Submit your assignments electronically on Bruin Learn . If you discover you made a mistake, you can resubmit your assignment. Bruin Learn will name it with a trailing integer suffix; that’s OK. We will grade your last submission.

You are expected to do your homeworks by yourself. You can share ideas and discuss general principles with others in the class, but all the code and writings that you submit must be your own work; do not share them with others. Please see Grading for more details. Consult a TA or the instructor if you have any questions about this policy.

Typically, labs and homeworks are done on GNU/Linux based systems running on your own computer, either natively or in a virtual machine. In some cases, though, they are done on the SEASnet GNU/Linux servers. Also, even when you develop on your own system, you should test on the SEASnet GNU/Linux servers as that's what we use to grade. When running on SEASnet, take care to not run commands like su and sudo that would make it appear to the system administrators that you might be trying to break into the system.

Any programs that you write must behave robustly . Among other things, this means they must avoid arbitrary limits on the length or number of any data structure, including symbols, strings, and line length. It is OK to impose a non-arbitrary limit, e.g., because your computer runs out of memory or because of the limited range of the C ptrdiff_t type, but it is not OK to impose an arbitrary limit, e.g., a limit of at most 255 bytes in a line.

Please stick to coding styles used in the course material rather than inventing your own style, as this saves work for the grader.

Assignments are due by 23:55 on the specified date (i.e., five minutes before midnight at the end of the day).

This schedule is tentative, including due dates and assignments that have not yet been published on Bruin Learn. See the class news and Bruin Learn for when tentative assignments are finalized.

The project is worth 35% of the total grade; this 35% is divided up as specified in the project assignment description.

The final exam will be given at the time and place specified by the Registrar.

• Opt to only allow students to submit file types that generate Originality Reports or to allow any file type
• Next, select your assignment's start date, end date, and post date; the assignment post date is the date from which your students can view your feedback
• To customize your assignment further, click the optional settings button to reveal an array of options; each option will be accompanied with contextual help icons
• Click Submit to add your assignment to your Turnitin class

4. Add Students

There are three routes available for adding students. You may find it convenient to add students one by one, or add a large portion of students at once by uploading a list. Alternatively, why not allow your students to enroll themselves at their own pace?

Add Students One by One

You may prefer to use this method when adding fewer than ten students.

• Click Home from any Turnitin page to direct you to the homepage
• From the Class homepage, click the Students tab at the top of the page
• Click the Add Student button to the right
• Enter the student's first name, last name, and email address
• Click Submit to add the student

Upload a List of Students

For adding ten students or more, you may find it quicker and easier to upload a list.

• In a Word™ or plain text file, each student should be written as: first name, last name, email address format with one student per line. In Excel™, separate the first name, last name, and email address into different cells in a column.
• From the student list, click the Upload List button
• Click the Choose file button and browse for the plain text, Word™, or Excel™ file that you wish to upload
• Once the file has uploaded, click the Submit button to upload

Allow Students to Self-Enroll

Allowing students to self-enroll can save you time.

• Make a note of the seven-digit Class ID for the class you would like your students to join
• Next, select the cog icon under Edit
• From the Edit Class page, make a note of the enrollment password

About the Assignment

In this assignment you’ll walk through fine tuning a neural speech recognition system, Whisper . The goal of this assignment is to introduce you to ASR with Whisper and how to use fine tuning to adapt to a particular data domain. You will also gain experience working with long-form speech transcripts by converting raw transcripts into a more useful meeting summary (from our course lecture recordings!)

Submission Instructions

This assignment is due on 05/01/2024 by 11:59PM pacific (or at latest on 05/04/2024 with three late days). For this assignment, you will submit your filled-in/executed Colab Notebooks with all code/output, as PDF (combine both PDFs into the same file) on Gradescope. Please tag your question responses.

ORIE 5230 Quantitative Trading Strategies

Course description.

Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2023-2024 . Courses of Study 2024-2025 is scheduled to publish mid-June.

This course covers numerical techniques for quantitative trading in Finance. The main computational tool is Python. The computational techniques draw from interpolation, linear algebra, optimization, stochastic control, Monte Carlo simulation, queuing theory, finite difference methods, binomial trees, as well as statistical techniques such as regression, co-integration and principal components analysis. The applications include pricing, market microstructure, hedging and asset allocation for bonds, futures, equities and options. The focus is on theories that can be implemented in trading situations and the Interactive Brokers platform is used extensively for trading assignments.

This blended class is tailored to public employees involved in the design and construction of public buildings and public works. The class will cover practical applications and effective strategies for procuring and administering design and construction contracts.

What is a blended class? This virtual class consists of a five-week self-paced portion with an exam and a one-day live webinar. Having both a self-paced (or asynchronous) and a live portion makes this a blended class. You must complete both the five-week self-paced portion and the one-day webinar to obtain credit.

The  Design and Construction Contracting  blended class incorporates knowledge checks, lesson quizzes and ends with a multiple-choice exam.

• Prerequisite:   Completion of  Public Contracting Overview  is recommended, but not required.
• Class Level: Intermediate
• Instructional Method:  Online  - OIG Academy Online Class Technical Specifications
• Advanced Prep: None
• This class is one of the three classes required to earn the  MCPPO Designation . Once you complete all three classes, please submit the  MCPPO Designation application .
