Spider-Man Research Tokens, Research Stations and catching Pigeons explained

All you need to know about Research Tokens in Spider-Man, and some tips for earning them quickly.

Research Tokens , earned from completing Research Stations , are one of several key resources in Spider-Man .

They're unlocked a little later than the other basic Resources in the game, and require slightly different skillsets to complete - and they're also the only Resource you can earn from not one or two, but three methods: completing Research Stations , doing Circuit Projects , and catching Pigeons . Here on this page then, we'll explain how to do each of them.

On this page:

What are Research Tokens in Spider-Man and what are they used for?

How to earn research tokens fast, complete research stations and catch pigeons.

Cover image for YouTube video

Research Tokens are one of the six Resources in Spider-Man.

Those mostly become available as you progress through the story and level up, but for some - Suits in particular - you'll need to compelete specific tasks. More on those in our guide to how to unlock all Suits in Spider-Man .

Research Tokens are earned in three ways: from completing Research Station tasks, completing Circuit Projects, and from catching Pigeons.

how to get research tokens

Research Stations are simple enough - they're marked on the map with a purple magniscope icon and, when interacted with, give you a short task like swinging through clouds of smog to collect data on pollution. Doing so will reward you with Research Tokens for you to spend.

Circuit Projects, similarly, are quite easy to do. These are found in Octavius Labs, on a tablet on the desk just ahead of you as you enter. These are the circuit-based puzzles that you'll have encountered a few times already, that require you to get the current from one end of the board to the next with the right level of charge.

how to get research tokens

Pigeons, meanwhile, are actually only unlocked as things to do around the game world when you head to a specific Sidequest, "Helping Howard". It's unlocked fairly early on in the main story - keep progressing through and checking after each mission until you see the Sidequest icon for it appear on your map.

Head over to Howard at the Sidequest icon for his mission, and after a brief chat he'll explain that he's lost a load of his pet pigeons, thanks to being cruelly evicted from his home.

how to get research tokens

Pigeons are then marked on your map with a Pigeon icon, and when you get nearby a grean area will appear on your mini-map to show you where to look for one. Eventually one will appear, and you'll need to then chase it through the air as fast as you can, and catch it (by pressing L1 and R1 when prompted) to earn a Research Token and return it to Howard safely.

What are Research Tokens used for?

You can use Research Tokens to both buy new Suits that you've unlocked, and buy upgrades for Spidey in the form of Suit Mods, Gadgets, and Gadget upgrades.

Looking for more help? Our main Spider-Man walkthrough and guide is where you'll find a hub of all our pages, or you can go straight to our guides to Resources, like Backpack Tokens , Base Tokens , Challenge Tokens , Crime Tokens , Research Tokens and Landmark Tokens , our big list of all Spider-Man suits , all Black Cat Stakeout locations , all Secret Photo Ops locations or, finally, our list of Spider-Man Circuit Puzzle and Pattern Puzzle solutions .

There's no easy win for earning Research Tokens quickly, unfortunately, but some methods are faster than others.

how to get research tokens

You can earn six Research Tokens from completing all of the Circuit Projects at the lab (two from specific projects, and four for compelting all of them), and those are fairly easy to work your way through if you can get into a rhythm.

Otherwise, Research Stations take about five minutes to compelete and grant two Research Tokens, which is a decent return for your time.

how to get research tokens

As for Pigeon hunting, we recommend you unlock this one as soon as the Helping Howard sidequest appears on the map - fairly early on during your progression during the story, so keep checking between missions! - and then just grabbing a Pigeon quickly if you happen to be passing one by on your travels. They're a little time consuming for going out of your way to get just one Research Token, otherwise.

How to Get Research Tokens in Marvel’s Spider-Man

Marvel's Spider-Man PC

Playing through Marvel’s Spider-Man , you eventually might need Research Tokens to buy or upgrade a suit or gadget.

Research Tokens are one of the six Token types available in Marvel’s Spider-Man , and unlike most others there are multiple ways to get them. None are available at the start of the game though – you’re going to have to progress the story a little to be able to get some.

The first way to get Research Tokens in Marvel’s Spider-Man is to open Research Centres and complete their missions. These become available fairly early on into Marvel’s Spider-Man ‘s story and have purple icons on the map that look like satellites. Their missions will have you doing things like collecting pollution samples and other scientific activities. There are many of these dotted around New York city, and they each award a decent number of tokens.

Another way to unlock Research Tokens in Marvel’s Spider-Man is to return to the lab that you work at and complete the minigames available on the desks there. Most of these simply award experience, but some also give you Research Tokens. More levels of the two minigames available open up as you progress through the game, and you get bonus Research Tokens for completing them all.

The last way to earn Research Tokens in Marvel’s Spider-Man is to start the side mission “Helping Howard” when it becomes available. This will task you with gathering numerous pigeons across New York city. Look for the pigeon icons on the map, and when you get close to them be prepared to chase the pigeon down before grabbing with by pressing and holding both shoulder buttons.

How to earn Research Tokens in Marvel's Spider-Man

Players can craft new suits, gadgets, and upgrades in Marvel's Spider-Man by earning and spending Research Tokens.

Kevin Tucker

One of the strongest attributes of Peter Parker, the young man who protects the streets of New York as the masked hero Spider-Man, is his incredible intellect. His physical strength is considerable, but it's his mind that's able to round out the Spider-Man's capabilities through use of gadgets like his iconic web shooters. This is also the case in Marvel's Spider-Man, the hot new release from Insomniac Games: Peter is able to develop and upgrade his suits and gadgets by using his brain combined with specific collectibles known as Tokens. Research Tokens are one of these Token types, and earning them will be a critical step toward increasing Spider-Man's combat and traversal capabilities.

How to earn Research Tokens

Along with Crime Tokens , Research Tokens are among the most common and frequently required collectibles in Marvel's Spider-Man. As may be divined through reading the name, Research Tokens correspond to various investigative tasks, most specifically by completing objectives offered up by Research Stations scattered around the city.

how to get research tokens

Players just starting the game won't actually have access to Research Stations. With that said, they unlock shortly into the game's first act, meaning it shouldn't take too long after activating nearby Surveillance Towers before players can start to take on Research Station challenges.

Finding Research Stations is easy — once a given district's tower has been activated, they'll simply appear on the minimap and in-game map. Actually earning Research Tokens will take some effort, however, as different Research Stations offer up a variety of different objectives and challenges.

how to get research tokens

Some Research Stations task Spider-Man with finding the source of mysterious toxic substances, while others will have him identifying said substances, tracking down drones, and more. There's really a large variety of different objectives to be found, which is great news for players fond of the occasional minigame. And, unlike with other Tokens, players earn one Research Token for locating the Research Station and two more for completing its objective — there are no bonus objectives here. However, unlike most of the other challenges in the game, some Research Stations have skill requirements that must be met before the challenge can be tackled. This will noted in the in-game map as well as in a pop-up dialog box when approaching the station.

Players shouldn't have too much trouble earning Research Tokens in Marvel's Spider-Man, and the act of earning them provides a nice distraction from the usual high-stakes combat. Plus, earning Research Points early is a good way to make sure that new suits and gadgets can be purchased the moment they've been unlocked.

A look at where you can find all Fallen Devices in Destiny 2: Forsaken.

In Spider-Man on PlayStation 4, players have been wondering where to get Research Tokens. Among the collectibles you can earn, such as Backpack Tokens or Crime Tokens, are Research Tokens.

Similar to Crime Tokens, Research Tokens can be earned by completing investigative objectives. Using these Research Tokens, players can unlock new gadgets, suits, and upgrades. Confused? We’ve got you covered!

Below, we’ve put together a quick guide on where to get Research Tokens in Spider-Man on PS4!

Where to Get Research Tokens in Spider-Man on PS4

how to get research tokens

In Spider-Man on PlayStation 4, players have the ability to earn Research Tokens by completing investigative objectives. These objectives are typically offered to you as you unlock Research Stations, meaning that you won’t be able to earn Research Tokens right away. Instead, you’ll first need to unlock and activate Surveillance Towers, then unlock Research Station tasks.

To do this, start by unlocking and activating Surveillance Towers. In doing so, you’ll reveal new parts of Manhattan on your map. With these Surveillance Towers active, you’ll be able to look at your map and locate nearby Research Stations. Note that some tasks offered by Research Stations are easy, while others can be rather time-consuming.

For example, some Research Stations will require you to track down drones, while others will request that you locate and identify rare toxic substances. You’ll earn one Research Token for unlocking the Research Station itself, and additional Research Tokens for completing tasks assigned by these Research Stations.

With your Research Tokens, you can unlock new gadgets, suits, and upgrades in Spider-Man on PS4. As such, you’ll want to try and complete Research Station tasks whenever possible. How many Research Tokens do you currently have? Do you prefer gathering Backpack Tokens, Crime Tokens, or Research Tokens? Let us know down in the comments below!

Research stations will grant Spider-Man Research Tokens that can be used to unlock different items in the game. Finding and enter a research station will grant you 1 token. Completing the mission will grant 100 XP and 2 Tokens. As an added bonus they become Fast Travel points after completing the mission.

Financial District

Cell Tower Frequency Kinda esoteric, but this station monitors the city's cell tower network for potential vulnerabilities. People never think about it but those cell phones we all carry in our pockets? Pretty simple for a rogue agent to weaponize them, if we're not careful

There is a glitch in the cell tower system. It only affects sensitive equipment like that in Spidey's Suit. You will see blue sparking flat areas in the sky. These are the interference planes. If Spider-Man passes through the interference area he will begin taking in damage. So get out of the interference area as quickly as possible. Swing, web zip, and climb across the city to each of the rooftops to reset the towers.

Bacteria Buddies Ok, the stuff in this station? Revolutionary. If we can get it to work. Engineered bacteria that dissolves plastics into harmless component parts. Really hope we can work out the kinks...

Spidey puts the bacteria in his web fluid. The chemicals he needs to work on the bacteria are at ESU. Since we are storing the bacteria in the web cartridges it will dissolve the web if we try to swing. Spidey needs to make it to ESU without swinging. You can start a swing but the web will dissolve before you get too far. After swinging around the city as much as we do its instinctual to hit R2 to move around. You still can it just won't do much good. Instead climb buildings, jump, and Web-Zip to make it to ESU. Once there look through the trash for the chemicals needed. Now we have to travel more without swinging. Head to Octavius' lab to further the research. Inside the lab grab the bonding agent behind the Spectrograph. Use the Spectrograph to isolate the bacteria from the web fluid. Once successful exit the lab and swing, (oh thank you wonderful web swinging) back to the research station to test it out on the plastic containers.

Smog Alert This station monitors air quality; it's way more precise than anything in place now. If these were widely adopted, we could make huge leaps in quality of life for the entire city

The are areas of dense smog in the city. They will be marked on your mini map with a green cloud. If you want more visual evidence of the clouds then press R3 and they will show up in your field of view. This is especially helpful if doing the mission at night (on the game). Once you have swung through 8 clouds of smog, Spidey can trace the source to three vehicle types. Swing to each and take a picture of the vehicle.

Under Pressure This station monitors water pressure for nearby buildings. Anything goes wrong - pipe bursts or clogs - and an alert is automatically sent out to the city's maintenance teams. At least that's what would happen, if Oscorp had ever pushed the city to approve the system...

Press R3 to scan the pipes. They look to be find up here on the roof. The source of the problem seems to be at ground level. Drop down to the alley and find the valve. Turn the valve and a water tower begins to leak. Move up to the water tower and plug the leak by shooting your webs onto the hole where the water is leaking out. More towers nearby need the same mending. When all the towers are no longer leaking we find the problem is not completely fixed. Swing to the outlet pipe to check for a blockage. Sure enough it is full of debris. Hit L1 and R1 to let the water flow.

Hiding in the Crowd This station is kind a my answer to Oscorp's (hopefully soon-to-be-discontinued...) chemical weapons research systematized counter-agents to some of the world's most dangerous chemical agents. Course doing that analysis requires us to keep samples of said chemical agents here...

Some rocket propellant that was stolen is leaking. Drop below and Spidey will use his spider bot. Move the bot to the green chemical spills which as a bonus will lead us to the thief. At a couple points you will come up on a crowd of people. Tap Triangle to disperse the crowd with a harmless subsonic blast. The third crowd in need of dispersal will have the thief. Chase the thief down and tap R1 to web him up. With the thief captured Spidey drops in to retrieve the stolen item. Return it to the Research Station to complete the mission.

Hell's Kitchen

Snapping up Smog This is another of our air quality stations, monitoring contaminants in the surrounding atmosphere. Super important for the city and its citizens...but certain corporate overlords are less than thrilled by the prospect of their pollution output being publicly reported

There is a lot of smog in the area. The mini-map shows areas high in smog and are indicated by a green cloud. Swing or fall through the clouds to obtain a sample. After collecting 8 samples, Spidey is able to determine that the smog is coming from 2 types of vehicle and a faulty smoke stack. Move to the two cars and the smoke stack to take a picture of each (L2 to aim camera, R1 to take the picture).

Vaccinate the Fish Kinda funny to have a marine research station all the way up here, but it's got great sight lines to the river. Any health issues crop up, we can address them pretty easy through aerial dispersal...once that system comes on line, that is.

Swing down to the docks to find some nasty barrels in the water. Swing over a barrel and hold R1 and L1 to pull it out of the water and toss it away. Once the barrels are gone we can vaccinate. Check the mini-map for arts of green. Swing or web-zip over the are and press L1 to disperse the vaccine. When this area is clear we move to the next dock and repeat the process. Don't be surprised if Spidey gets wet. I repeatedly fell in the water when completing this Research Station Mission. The last step will be to move to a marker and press R3 to scan the fish to make sure we have prevented an outbreak.

Data Chain Data back-up. One of those things that's the least important aspect of a project right up until it becomes the most important. This station helps us manage overflow data from all the other stations: back up for our back up.

Spidey plans to use the ESU server to help reduce the load on the research station. This will only work if we realign the dishes. Move from tower to tower to connect the orange-red beams to the next dish. Each time you align a portion more time is added to the clock. There are a total of 8 towers to align. Once the last of the towers are in alignment we can initiate the data transfer at ESU. Drop down and you have a circuit mini-game. The video below shows the steps needed to complete the circuit.

Chemical Leak One of the hardest problems with improving air quality is identifying the source of high toxic, low-particle-count pollutants. Stuff that can make you sick from only a few grams. This station specializes in solving that exact problem, by targeting specific particulate toxins.

Chemicals are leaking out of the steam vent on the roof. Walk over and analyze the leak. Now we get to use the Spectrograph. The video below shows (after a couple tries) the solution for the analysis. Press R3 and follow the gold pipes to locate the next chemical leak. Spidey will follow the pipes to two more leaks. After the Spectrograph on the last leak site climb up the building under construction. The concrete will be perfect to detoxify the chemicals leaking on the roof. Jump into the air and hold R1 and L1 to grab the concrete bags and slam them into the ground. If you land you will be damaged by the chemicals. Repeat the process for each barrel (a total of 5). With the leaks soaked up web up the grate to prevent the problem from occurring in the future.

Pigeon Vaccine Who looks after the health of New York's pigeon population? Harry Osborn and Oscorp, that's who. Seriously though - pigeons are the number one vector for a ton of communicable diseases. This station helps us keep tabs on our winged friends before they become health risks.

The meter on the left side of the screen has a number inside. This number indicates how far you are from your target. The circle around the number provides the general direction you need to go. Once at the park swing over the three sites and press L1 to disperse the vaccine. If the green on that section of the mini-map disappears then the dispersal was a success. For it to work you will have to get some air between Spidey and the ground. There are two more locations to vaccinate. When the last section is vaccinated drop down and press R3 to scan the group of pigeons. Perfect: No Zombie Pigeons

Reboot Times Square Just installed new energy saving LED billboards throughout Times Square. They're beautiful...and insanely complicated. Regular maintenance will keep them in good working order, but Oscorp has never been great at routinely maintaining anything unless it turns a profit.

As the mission starts we get a timer set at 20 second on the left side of the screen. The goal is to swing by the screens in Times Square and shoot electric webs at them. The web shooter is already set for electric webs. As you swing hold L2 then press R1 to shoot the webs. Each screen successfully hit will add a little time to the countdown. There are 20 screens to fix all of which is marked on the mini-map.

Upper East Side

Dive and Dash New York is renowned for pristine drinking water, but it doesn't get that way without a lot of work. This station is designed to ease that burden, by monitoring smaller bodies of water with connections into the city's main waterline.

Drop down to the lake. Move to the marker and collect an algae sample. We need a tall building to jump off of. Oscorp is nearby. Swing to the top of the Oscorp building and dive off by pressing L3. As you free fall watch the meter on the left side of the screen. Once it reads a dive distance of at least 100 m begin to swing. Now climb the Oscorp building again. Dive off but this time don't begin your swing until you reach a dive distance of 250 m. Like an idiot I didn't even see the meter in the top left hand corner. In the video below I began my swing at 200 m which was decent guess. The next attempt I saw the meter and got it right. Swing over to the lake and spread the algae cure.

Upper West Side

Spider-Bot Wildlife tracking isn't glamorous, but it is important for a city of New York's size and density. You need some high-grade location triangulation to pinpoint something as small as a bird in this urban jungle.

The GPS tech in this station may help Spider-Man locate his missing spider-bot. Drop down into the park. We now are the spider-bot. Move to the marker and find the orange looking remnants of a spider bot. Follow the path to retrace the steps of the last bot. In the video below after going up the slide I lost track of my direction. Just be patient if that happens a marker will help you find your way. A pigeon will pick up the bot and fly it to its nest where we find the other bot. Spidey drops down and rescues the bots.

Lightning Rod Accurate storm tracking has been one of he brass rings of meteorology for a looooong time. The big problem is the size of the data set: weather phenomena require an enormous amount of processing power to accurately monitor. A distributed network is basically the only way to do it.

Ventilate the Problem Steam heat is the most environmentally friendly method for in-home heating. But the pressure required creates a lot of safety concerns. This station keeps an eye o things and makes sure none of the pressure in nearby units exceeds tolerance.

To prevent building explosion swing to the building at the marker and destroy the vents on the side. There are 15 vents. We have 45 seconds to eliminate all the vents. When you destroy a vent more time is added. As Spidey swings by event hold L2 and tap R1 to aim and shoot at the vent. When all the vents are destroyed climb to the top and turn the valve to end the mission

Shaking Harlem Mom set this one up: seismic monitoring station, trained on the fault line running beneath Central Park. Really hoping Oscorp doesn't decide to axe this station. Have kind of a sentimental attachment to it.

Swing off the building and hold Square and X to perform a ground strike. The impact will create a shock wave revealing the location of the pressure trouble spot. Hit Circle to exit the satellite view then swing to a trouble spot. If you lose your way (or the marker) you can ground pound again to find the trouble spot. There are three high pressure spots that need relieved. When you arrive at one do another ground pound to relieve the pressure. Once all three spots are fixed the mission is complete. This video has a funny moment. As I was swing to the last of the three high pressure spots I decided to ground strike in front of a moving elevated train and it killed Spider-Man. It was totally by chance and I didn't even realize what had happened. I had to restart by fixing all three sites again. I left the "blooper" just because.

Visibly Shaken Don't feel super awesome about his one: cloaking tech intended for military application. We're using armed drones to test it. This was my one concession to Dad - hopefully this'll convince him to relax about funding the other stations...

The drones are covered in an orange-red orb. In order to get close to them we have to be cloaked. Pressing Triangle during this mission will turn Spider-Man invisible to the drones. The only problem is the cloaking system interferes with his web gadgets. We need to destroy the dysfunctional drones. The goal is to get close to the drones while cloaked and press R1 to destroy it. Practice with the first one which should be easy. Turn invisible (Triangle) walk through the orange orb and hit R1. Some of the later ones are in are so you will have to swing or web-zip, hit triangle quickly and tap R1 as you pass through the orb around the drone. Twelve drones are flying around all marked on your mini-map.

Here's how to get Spider-Man tokens and what they do

Unlock suits and craft gadgets with this special currency.

Spider-Man tokens

  • Backpack Tokens
  • Landmark Tokens
  • Research Tokens
  • Base Tokens
  • Crime Tokens
  • Challenge Tokens

Spider-Man tokens are the most important currency in the game, split into six types you can earn by completing a wide range of activities as you swing your way around New York. Whether you want to hunt down collectible backpacks, snap some tourist shots, or beat the hell out of baddies, you can earn tokens for doing pretty much anything.

You can then use these to purchase one of many Spider-Man suits , craft mods with powerful abilities, or build gadgets that'll give you an edge in combat. If you're playing on one of the harder difficulties and don't want combat to be a slog, it's basically a given that you'll want to grab all kinds of tokens to buff your suit and give you more options when dealing with New York's criminal element.

In this Spider-Man tokens guide, I'll explain every way to get the game's six token types, so you can make whatever upgrades you want. It's worth noting that as you progress the main story, you'll unlock more ways to earn tokens, especially in regards to the research, base, crime, and challenge types.

How to get Backpack Tokens

Spiderman Backpack Token stuck to wall

These are some of the first tokens you'll come across in Spider-Man and are easy to gather. Once you complete the quest to help Yuri repair the surveillance tower and grab Peter's first backpack, markers will appear across New York showing their locations. Simply find one and grab it to earn a Backpack Token and a memento from Spider-Man's past. If you manage to collect all 55 of them you'll get the Homemade Suit from Spider-Man: Homecoming.

How to get Landmark Tokens

Spiderman Landmark Token at Avenger's Tower

This is another Token type you unlock early on alongside the camera. To get one of these tokens, head to any Landmark indicated on your map by the little building symbol, bring up your camera, and take a picture of it. You'll know you're in the right spot as the camera's aiming reticule will say "subject in-frame". There are also Secret Photo Ops that require you to take pictures of 50 hidden spots across New York, but these unlock the ESU suit instead of awarding tokens.

How to get Research Tokens

Spiderman Research Tokens from Howard's pigeons

Research Tokens come from four separate sources that unlock throughout the game. The first is to complete circuit puzzles and spectrographs in Octavius Labs. More of these unlock each time you return during the main quest, and if you complete all ten you get a Research Token bonus.

Once you complete the main quest "Harry's Passion Project", you'll also unlock Research Stations across the city marked with a microscope icon; complete the challenges located at each to get more tokens. Finally, once the "Helping Howard" side quest unlocks near F.E.A.S.T, you'll be able to find lost pigeons across New York, and each one you catch will net you Research Tokens.

How to get Base Tokens

Spiderman Base Token rewarded after fight completion

You get Base Tokens by taking down criminal strongholds, fighting through wave after wave of enemies. You unlock your first early on when you visit the Fisk Construction Site as part of the main quest, but later you'll also be able to take down Demon Warehouses, as well as Sable Outposts and Prisoner Camps. Each base you complete gets you Base Tokens.

How to get Crime Tokens

Spiderman Crime Tokens marker

Crime Tokens are the only ones that aren't marked on your main map. Instead you'll want to swing around the city scanning for nearby events. It shouldn't take long to spot a red triangle with an exclamation mark on your minimap or your hud; these are crimes. Head to the symbol and complete the objective to earn Crime Tokens. The crimes you'll encounter in New York range from kidnapping, to robbery, to vehicle theft, and more will unlock as the story progresses, such as Sable ambushes.

How to get Challenge Tokens

Spiderman Challenge Tokens

Challenge Tokens are the last to unlock in the game and you'll have to wait until after you find Standish in the main story. Yuri will contact you about a mysterious box on a rooftop in Hell's Kitchen. Head there to open it and the mysterious Taskmaster will set you challenges across the city. These range from stealth, to disarming bombs, to fighting enemies, and your performance will determine how many Challenge Tokens you earn. Later in the story, Taskmaster will contact you again and unlock even more challenges.

  • The Forge Camps to the west: Plenty of demons, easy to pull in groups. You should also try to find a large group of talbuks that patrols around the fields nearby, usually following the path of Bach'lor .
  • Sunspring Post: Lots of mobs together, you can easily make a route around the area.
  • The fields between Oshu'gun and Telaar: Many herds patrolling the area, plus you can circle around Oshu'gun killing other things while the clefthooves respawn.
  • Kil'Sorrow Fortress: There are plenty of mobs around and pretty close to each other.

How to Get Research Tokens in Spider-Man

Image of Josh Hawkins

As you explore Manhattan in Marvel’s Spider-Man, the latest iteration of the web-slingers story from Insomniac Games, you’ll come across a slew of different Tokens, all of which play a vital part to furthering Spider-Man’s abilities. One particular Token, Research Tokens, will allow you to unlock new suits, gadgets and more, and we’ll show you everything you need to know to get more Research Tokens in Marvel’s Spider-Man.

How to Get Research Tokens

Getting your hands on more Research Tokens will be key to your success in Marvel’s Spider-Man, and alongside Crime Tokens, which we’ve already shown you how to acquire, you’ll find that these Research Tokens are fairly common. Still, though, knowing exactly which activities will reward you with them is important and will play a vital role in your success in Marvel’s Spider-Man.

You’ll earn Research Tokens by completing different investigative objectives located throughout all of Manhattan. These objectives will mostly be offered to you as additional tasks when you start to unlock Research Stations, though you won’t be able to dive into these directly at the start of the game. Instead, you’ll need to start unlocking and activating Surveillance Towers, which will start to unlock new Research Station tasks.

how to get research tokens

Once you’ve unlocked a Surveillance Tower, you should be able to find the Research Stations in that district by simply looking at your map. From here you can start to complete the different challenges offered up. Keep in mind that some of these tasks and objectives will be easy, while others may require more work on your part.

Some of the Research Stations that you find in Marvel’s Spider-Man will task you with finding things like the source of toxic substances, identifying toxic substances, or even tracking down drones and other things. There are several different objectives you can acquire for these tasks, and you’ll receive Research Tokens for location the Research Station and for completing the tasks that you get for each one.

Now that you know more about Research Tokens and how to acquire them in Marvel’s Spider-Man, make sure you check out our guide on how to get from Crime Tokens and be sure to head back over to our Spider-Man guide for more in-depth information to help you as you take down the big bads of Manhattan in Insomniac Games’ take on Spider-Man.

How to Get Research Tokens in Spider-Man PS4

Spider-Man games have always had a ton of collectibles and just plain ol’ general things to get strewn about their sprawling versions of Manhattan. Insomniac’s iteration of the web-slinging series is no different. This time around, there are Research Tokens you can collect which will help you buy upgrades, suits, and more. Here’s how to get yourself as many of these Research Tokens as you can in Spider-Man PS4 .

The first way you’ll come across Research Tokens in Spider-Man PS4 is by continuing through the story until you get the side mission involving helping your ol’ pal Harry.

He’s entrusted you with taking care of labs he’s set up all over Manhattan to take care of the public’s health in various ways. You can head to them, interact with them, and you’ll get a Research Token. Then, if you enter the lab and interact with the board in there, you’ll partake in a mission. Once completed, you’ll get two tokens.

Completing all of these nets you a trophy, too, by the way. And the labs also become fast travel points on the map.

The second way you can get yourself some of these valuable Research Tokens is after continuing through the story yet again. Eventually, you’ll get access to the side mission that has you meeting up with Howard, the pigeon trainer.

He wants you to gather up his pigeons, which are all scattered about the city. Getting them back for him (also a trophy) nets you one token each.

That’s how to get Research Tokens in Spider-Man PS4. If you’re on the lookout for any other guides, check out our constantly expanding Spider-Man PS4 wiki . If you’d rather ask us a question directly, go ahead and leave it in the comments below. We’ll try our best to help you out.
