Children and young people in particular need to do sport so that they develop good habits that they can continue into adulthood. People that do sport on a regular basis are burning more calories than those that don’t, and are therefore less likely to end up overweight. Being a healthy weight means that you will be less likely to die young and suffer from heart disease, strokes, high blood pressure, diabetes and a range of other conditions, and if you already eat well, it can give you an extra calorie allowance so you can treat yourself without feeling guilty about it.

As well as improving cardiovascular health and fitness, exercising is also good for the musculoskeletal system, making muscles more supple and toned, and improving the strength of bones and joints. People who do sports will be stronger and more able to lift and carry heavy things, which is also always useful, and they are less likely to become really weak and frail as they get older because their bodies are strong. There are a lot of people doing sport these days. Sports means games or activities of physical body that are done for fun, pleasure, relaxation or exercise. Playing games like tennis and football or taking part in athletics are the most common sports activities. They can be done in individual or in a groups. Most people have fun and enjoy themselves when they play games with their friends. We all know that there is a lot of benefit in sports.

Sports is is good for health

One of the main benefits of sports is that it is good for our health. Doing sport will make us healthier because the fat is burnt and impurities are removed from the sweats glands. When sport activity is done outdoors, fresh air is taken into the lungs, resulting in greater flow of oxygen into the heart. Doing sport is the best method to increase our stamina, and we are able to perform better in our daily activity. Besides that, our muscles are toned up and these will keep our bodies strong so that illnesses are kept away.

Release stress and tension

On the other hand, participation in sports will helps us to release stress and tension. As a student, the increasing amount of homework and the fear of failure in examinations will cause the emotional problem. A football game or workout at the gymnasium will help us feel much better because our body will release endorphins after exercise. Studies have shown that exercise for at least 30 minutes each day can reduces the levels of stress. This way of releasing stress is healthy unlike some other methods such as smoking, loitering in shopping complexes or even taking drugs.

In conclusion, there are many benefits one can gain from doing sports activities. Student should excel not only in studies but also in games and sports. Involvement in them will not affect academic performance. On the contrary, it will enhance the student’s ability to study and perform excellently in examination.

Watching sports can be good for you—thanks to its social bonding effects

Being a sports fan, whether you're watching top flight football, the Olympic games or your favorite local team, can be a rollercoaster ride. Incredible highs if you win, depressing lows if you don't, and lots of stressful feelings in between.

Thankfully, the overall impact should be a positive one because research has shown that people who watch sports experience greater well-being than those who don't—and that this is probably linked to the social aspects of watching sport.

By well-being we mean a person's psychological state—how well someone feels. People with higher well-being tend to have better physical health and live longer than people with lower well-being.

Research carried out by our group at Anglia Ruskin University—led by Helen—used data from 7,209 adults, aged 16–85, living in England who participated in the Taking Part Survey commissioned by the UK government.

We found that people in the UK who attended a live sporting event in the last year are more satisfied with their lives, feel their lives are more worthwhile, and are less lonely than people who have not. These findings chime with other studies , which found that people who watch sports in person at least once a year have fewer depressive symptoms than those who do not.

Can't get to live events? Watching sports on TV and online can also be good for your well-being. Research has shown that people who watch sports on TV or on the internet were also less depressed than those who did not, and depressive symptoms were even less likely for those who watched sports with increasing frequency.

Those who watch sports are more likely to report higher feelings of life fulfillment than people who don't, regardless of whether they watch sports in-person, on TV, or online.

All these findings are correlational, which means we can't be certain which factor influences the other or whether they might both be influenced by another factor altogether (like wealth, or number of friends). However, social identity theory and brain imaging research tells us that watching sports could provide the primary well-being boost rather than other factors.

The positive effect of watching sports is likely about social identity . We seek connection through the formulation of in-groups: communities of people with whom we share something in common. These communities form part of our identities , and through them we find social and emotional support .

An example of in-group formation is the community we share with people who support the same sports teams as us. Research has shown that people who identified strongly with a sports team were more likely to feel emotionally supported by fellow fans, which increased life satisfaction.

Through our shared social identity, we also share the social and emotional benefits of successes among our group. Researchers at KU Leuven in Belgium have dubbed this " basking in reflected glory ."

However, when our team loses, we are more likely to distance ourselves from our team to protect ourselves from negative social and psychological consequences: "cutting off reflected failure."

The role of social processes linking sports spectatorship and well-being is demonstrated by a Japanese study that used brain imaging. They found that areas of the brain associated with psychological rewards (feeling good) were more active when participants watched a popular spectator sport, like baseball, than a less popular spectator sport, such as golf.

So, the social benefits of watching sports aren't necessarily confined to going to live events with friends and family. We can enjoy the sense of community provided by our favorite athletes whether we watch sports in-person or from the comfort of our own homes, and by extension, we can also enjoy the psychological benefits.

Whether you support your team from home or at the game, you can enjoy the highs and lows of being a sports fan in the knowledge that it's good for you—as long as you're sharing that experience with others.

Two trios that were supposed to lead the Brooklyn Nets to NBA glory just eight years apart. The only aspect they share is a massive level of disappointment.

Both of these attempts to construct their own "superteam" when that was still the primary goal of many organizations proved to be catastrophic failures. Now, Brooklyn appears to have learned from their mistakes of assembling high-level talent from the outside, and will now look within to grow their stars.

The recent hiring of both head coach Jordi Fernandez and Andre Barrett signals a new approach for general manager Sean Marks. Fernandez, a player development guru, and Barrett, who has an amazing eye for talent, is a tandem that will prevent the Nets from being forced to make another clumsy trade. No more future leveraging that results in another franchise winning a title, as is the case with the Boston Celtics. Remember, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown were both selected using Brooklyn's draft picks.

The Nets have not picked inside the top 15 of a draft since 2010, when they selected Derrick Favors third overall. Since then, many of Brooklyn's picks have been shipped to other teams, but that hasn't stopped Marks from finding some late-round steals. Jarrett Allen, Cam Thomas, Nic Claxton and most recently Dariq Whitehead and Noah Clowney were all selected no earlier than 21st overall. Now equipped with a slew of first-rounders over the course of the next three seasons, the combination of Marks, Fernandez and Barrett will have the opportunity to truly build the Nets into a contender from within.

Brooklyn's entrance into a complete rebuild has been their main headline of the 2024 offseason, but with those three at the helm, the turnaround may happen far sooner than many expect.

Optimizing urban resource efficiency: A scenario analysis of shared sports facilities in fostering sustainable communities in Nanjing, China

Despite extensive urban infrastructure development, a shortage of community resources and amenities, particularly for physical activity, remains pervasive in high-density Chinese cities. A joint-use agreement (JUA) allows community access to school sports facilities, providing a low-cost approach to increasing the number of sports facilities available for residents' use. To demonstrate the potential benefits of JUA and optimize the efficiency of urban resources, this study proposes a JUA scenario for football pitches in Nanjing, China, using a walking route-based methodology. In this scenario, the football pitches catchment areas expanded from 66.19 km 2 to 169.46 km 2 and the percentage of residential building points of interest within the catchment areas increased from 35.39% to 91.46%. The research results indicate that JUA can significantly reduce the travel costs for residents to access sports services, and it holds significant implications for urban walkability, physical activities and sustainable communities. The scenario analysis methodology applied in the study is expected to be broadly applicable to other studies on the accessibility of urban facilities and the findings provide valuable insights for urban planning practice in China.

COSTA MESA CA — It was day one of Raiders training camp. They took the field just before 10am on a beautiful sunny day. The ocean breeze was gently blowing and it was and temps were in the 70s. A very different feeling than Raiders camps in recent years. And the Raiders figure to be all the better for it.

This time a year ago, the Raiders hit the field for camp in triple digit temps that only got hotter as camp went on. They were sweating all their weight off faster than they could hydrate while the linemen had to take periodic trips to a refrigerated trailer to bring their body temperature down.

It was miserable. And it made their preparation all the more difficult. After all, their focus shouldn’t be on staying alive in blistering heat, but rather what their doing to improve their performance and acclimate to the new playbook.

“At the end of the day we’re going to make it work make it do what it do regardless, but it definitely helps keep your mind a little bit straighter when you’re in reasonable weather,” said Davante Adams. “Playing around in that 113, 115 that’s been going on out there in Vegas…it’s been a hot one. Definitely wouldn’t be our first one dealing with it, but this allows us to kind of chill and focus in on getting right the first couple days and keeping a little bit more weight on versus coming out here shedding a little bit too much and getting dehydrated and all those types of things.”

These first few days are all about taking what they studied in the new offense and putting it on its feet. Even if it isn’t in full pads at full speed, it’s important to not have to even consider the weather in that equation. And the team looked very prepared for how practice was to go. No breaks for refrigerated trailer trips and fewer water breaks as well. Which meant more work.

As helpful as it is now, it will that even more helpful next week when they put on pads and the intensity gets ratcheted up.
