Balancing homeschooling, housekeeping and running a business is challenging. One thing that helps me stay organized is a good homeschooling checklist! Today I’m going to share with you my homeschool daily checklist (and yes – there’s a free printable at the end of the post!).

Everyone is different, but I personally love to have a routine to follow in our homeschool. When I first began homeschooling , I scheduled everything out to the hour each day, thinking that if I could just have the perfect plan and schedule, my homeschool would run smoothly.

Those of you with multiple little ones can empathize with me on how that actually turned out! That schedule was out the door after the first month (I really tried for a few weeks!).

Don’t get me wrong – schedules can be great. I used to teach high school math, so it’s no wonder I tried to run my homeschool in a similar fashion, schedule-wise. But at this time in our lives, a loose routine and a homeschool daily checklist is working much better!

This simple, FREE printable checklist helps keep my kids on task and organized in our homeschool. Grab your homeschool daily checklist today.

I use a homeschooling checklist to not only keep me on track with what we have to accomplish each day, but to help teach my kids to manage their time well.

Not only does it help them learn how self-regulate, but having a checklist helps them take ownership about moving through their school day without me nagging them every step of the way (who wants that?). Plus, it’s satisfying to check off all those little boxes and see what you’ve accomplished that day!

Using Our Homeschool Checklists

I’m often asked what our homeschool routine looks like, so I wanted to share that first so you can see how we use our checklists.

Note : the one thing I do not put on our homeschool daily checklist is a list of specific chores . I created separate chore charts to use for that, as we use a zone cleaning method with our kids in our home. You can read more about that here !

So once the kids wake up, they have breakfast and get ready for the day (get dressed, brush teeth and hair). I used to include those tasks on our charts, but since my kids are a little bigger now, they are more habits than anything.

Most days we’ll then together to pray or do our bible lesson before separating into individual school work.

homeschool daily assignment sheet

This year we are using BJU Press Homeschool for most of our curriculum, and it has been a blessing in this season! My older kids (3rd, 2nd, and 2nd grade) have gotten a chance to be more self-directed in their school work while I chase the toddler around. The mixture of independent and parent-led learning has been a good balance for us.

[CLICK HERE TO CHECK OUT ONE OF OUR TOP CURRICULUM PICKS]

On their checklists, I write down each thing they need to finish daily. This varies per child, but for example, my son’s checklist typically reads :

  • Heritage Studies/Science
  • Handwriting
  • 15 Minutes Piano
  • AWANAS work
  • 30 minutes of silent reading
  • Chores (listed on here as a reminder to finish them!)

So mostly I list out the subjects he needs to complete, along with anything else that week that needs to get done.

The great thing about a homeschool checklist is that it isn’t tied to a strict time, but gives my kids a guideline of what is expected of them.

It’s also very helpful for me, since I have kids at different levels and I am not working with all of them at once all the time… it helps me keep track of who has done what!

I also jokingly call our checklists the “Can I have electronics?” form , because before we started using them, that’s inevitably what I would get asked all day. Now my kids know that if they want to have the privilege of using their electronics, they need to show me that their charts are completed.

Most days my kids get through their entire list, but if they don’t, they know they have to do a little bit extra the next day or on the weekend (we will discuss these expectations together depending on the circumstances).

Filling Out Your Homeschool Checklist Printable

I hope these checklists will also be a super easy way for you to help your kids keep track of their daily tasks!

There are 10 different designs I have created; let your student pick out their favorite one (might make it a little more fun to complete). You can print one out for each week and put it in the front of a binder or planner. Another great option is to laminate it or stick it in a page protector and use a dry-erase marker!

The Daily Task list and Weekly Habit sections are editable , so if you are going to print them weekly, you can easily edit them on your computer first.

homeschool daily assignment sheet

(The blue editable fields will print clear when you print the homeschool checklists!)

Simply list out the tasks you would like your kids to complete each day in your homeschool. Most likely this will be school work or subjects, but if you don’t have chore charts , you might also include chores (really anything that needs to be completed each day).

It’s best to be specific with your tasks when applicable! For example, writing “30 minutes violin practice” is better than just “practice violin”, so your child has a boundary to follow.

Homeschool Habit Tracker Checklist

Use the “Weekly Habits” space at the bottom to track things that might not get done every day, but you still want your kids to get into a good habit of doing them!

For us, I included music practice and silent reading on our checklist as things I want done every day, but you could include them in the habit section instead. Bible study or devotion time might be good to write in if your kids are working on that habit.

The mother who takes pains to endow her children with good habits secures for herself smooth and easy days. Charlotte Mason

If your kids are working on personal care habits like brushing their teeth, daily bathing, brushing their hair, or picking up their rooms, those could go in the habits section.

Talk with your kids and let them help you come up with good habits they want to work on! Then look over their lists each week to see if they are meeting their goals. After a few weeks of creating the habits, take them off the checklist and see how they do keeping it up.

Teaching Your Kids to Use the Homeschool Daily Checklist

If this is the first time you have used a homeschool daily checklist, it may take time for your kids to be able to use them independently. They may need practice, and for you to guide them through it a bit at first.

Soon, they will begin to appreciate the direction having a checklist gives them as they work through their day.

homeschool daily assignment sheet

As you teach them the skills they need to use a checklist, you will love to see them become more independent and able to move from task to task unprompted.

  • When you first start, add tasks that are manageable for your kids , so they can feel that sense of accomplishment when they complete everything. Keep time in mind too – you don’t want to add too many things that it becomes impossible to complete within your day.
  • A good idea is to sit down and have your kids talk you through the checklist – let them explain to you what they will have to do to check off each item . This lets you know that they understand the expectations, and that the tasks you wrote are clear!
  • Help your kids set goals , and maybe even a reward for finishing their homeschool daily checklist. Like I said, screen time/electronics is a big motivator for us, but it might be something different in your home.

Finally, make sure YOU take time each day to go over the checklist and actually check it! Make sure to hold your kids accountable to finishing their tasks; if they don’t think someone will check it, they will be tempted to cut corners (or not even use the tool).

Hi, We’ve been using your checklist this year and my children love it! I can’t find where I downloaded it to, and I have tried several times to complete your email signup to get the files again but haven’t received them. We appreciate the time you spent on the cute graphics and would love to keep using these! Thank you for your help. Liz

Just sent you a link via email – thanks Liz!

Best Homeschool Planners To Keep Your Homeschool Organized

Homeschoolers are always on a mission to find the best homeschool planner. The right planner eases the way for parents to create lesson plans, make assignments for their kids, decide how to divvy up curriculum, and track ideas for enrichment activities and resources.

A good homeschool planner can give you a sense of ordering (or at least considering!) all the details, so your homeschool adventure can have more calm and less chaos.

Even for homeschoolers who don't use a curriculum or assignments, the right planner is out there to help you plan projects and unit studies or to help your young learners follow their interests—and get to the robotics team meeting on time.

We have the map for your journey toward the homeschool planner of your dreams.

Find the best homeschool planner for your family.

  • Planners When There's No Curriculum

Planners for Homeschooling High school

Planner community, planner accessories, enjoy your planner, homeschool planner faqs.

Think of your ideal homeschool planner as a way to assemble a picture of the homeschool you want . Just as there is no single best curriculum—only curriculum that is best for your family—there is no single best homeschool planner. There is, however, a best homeschool planner for your family—whether it is one you customize for your family or the unicorn that is perfect right out of the package.

A homeschool planner needs to work the way you work, in line with your planner personality. Ask yourself if you want a paper planner or a digital planner, then consider which of the features below appeal to you.

Paper planner:

  • Designed for handwritten entries?
  • Pre-printed and bound by the publisher?
  • With removable and moveable sections and "inserts?"
  • A file you access from your computer and print on paper yourself? Perhaps customizable?
  • Stored in a notebook with rings or discs? A folding cover? Spiral bound?

Digital planner:

  • Online and in the cloud?
  • On your devices?
  • App- or browser-based?
  • Printable? (Hybrid paper/digital planner)
  • Shareable with your kids so they get their assignments?
  • Shareable with adults who are in on the homeschooling?
  • Compatible with Alexa or similar digital assistant?

Additional factors to consider:

  • Cost. There are free planners, inexpensive planners, and expensive planners. Some have free and premium versions; some planning apps and platforms have subscription fees.
  • Size. Paper and printable planners come from pocket-size to tote size and every size in between.
  • Dated or undated. Calendars, weekly layouts, and daily schedules may be dated or undated.
  • Binding.  Paper planners may be spiral bound, edge bound, or meant to be inserted in covers with rings or discs.
  • Tracking. Do you want to track homeschool accomplishments and ways you are meeting state requirements in this planner or separately?
  • Features/sections. Do you want an all-in-one planner to include meal planning, household maintenance, or just stick to homeschooling? Will you use the planner to track accomplishments? Homeschool record keeping  may be at least partially integrated into some planners, but you will likely need some separate record keeping tools as well.

You may find (or you may have already found!) that some parts of your planner don't work as well as you hoped. Analyzing why they don't work will help you find the homeschool planner that does work for your family.

Maybe because the kids can't see inside your paper planner, or it feels invasive having them root around in your notebook. Or maybe when the kids access your online planner to get their assignments, they get too distracted by going on the internet or using devices.

Some kids work on assignments better if you give them something tangible to work from—like a checklist of assignments printed on laminated paper or written with colorful markers on a white board.

And, of course, you may not homeschool in a way that makes "assignments" relevant for kids at all!

So, a planner featuring assignments may not be the solution you thought it would be! Or, depending on your kids and your approach to homeschooling, it may be a critical part of your homeschool planner.

It's like this with all the potential features of a planner. The size and scope of your homeschool planner may change as you add sections and omit parts you don't need or that don't work for you.

You may find you want separate planners and planning tools for different aspects of homeschooling or different aspects of life, or you may be seeking that "all-in-one."

Choosing and updating the parts of your planner is all part of discovering your "planner personality."

TheHomeschoolMom offers two free homeschool planners designed with you in mind—one printable planner for the paper-loving homeschool parents out there and one digital version for those who prefer digital. The two planners do have different elements, so you can choose the one that best fits your needs.

Printable Homeschool Planner & Household Organizer

The printable planner is a comprehensive organizer for appointments, school assignments, lesson planning, record keeping, and family menu planning. An unschooling record keeper is helpful for keeping track of educational activities should such records be needed. The planner is exclusive for our newsletter subscribers (we would love for you to subscribe!)

Digital Homeschool Planner & Record Keeper

Our Digital Homeschool Planner is a spreadsheet-based planner that is a full digital planner for an individual homeschool student. Including course planners for each level of schooling (elementary, middle school, and high school), assignment sheets, reading logs, attendance sheets, and report cards, the digital homeschool planner is a workbook that can track your student's progress throughout his homeschool years.

Some parents prefer to use a planner intended just for homeschoolers. When the design matches up with a family's needs, the homeschool-specific planner has great features that may help homeschool life run smoothly.

Others prefer to use planners meant for public school teachers, or they like adapting planners and apps meant for "anybody," customizing them for their homeschool life.

Some planner publishers offer

  • both homeschool versions and non-homeschool versions
  • minimalist versions, omitting some features
  • both paper and digital versions
  • both dated and undated versions

Homeschool-specific planners - Paper

Planners designed for homeschoolers may have special features, so you can work out assignments from your curriculum for each child, in each subject, over the course of a week, a month, a term, or even a year. They may have special record keeping pages for field trips, reading lists, test scores, or grades—for those homeschoolers who use them.

The Schoolnest Homeschool Lesson Planning Notebook "uses a dot-grid journal inspired framework to guide you in planning and documenting your homeschool lessons. The templates are flexible and open-ended so you can make it your own to fit your needs and the way you homeschool. Planners are all 8.5x11 inches, softcover, perfect bound with 55# paper."

The Waldock Way Homeschool Planner  "is simple and efficient and offers multiple options to fit your needs. You will receive an editable version (power point) and a PDF version emailed to you so that you can type or write your plans. You will also have the ability to customize title fields to best suite your needs as well. This is now an  undated  planner so you use it again year after year."

Homeschool and Teacher Planners - Digital

Homeschool Planet is one of the most popular digital homeschool planners. Parents love that it already integrates many popular curricula into its system, so in many cases, you do not even have to add in specific books, lessons, or assignments. You can just decide where to plug them into your schedule in order to meet your goals. Students get their own logins!

Homeschool Panda has the sophisticated planner tools you might expect but also some extra features, including a crowd-sourced database of book titles homeschoolers can add to their lessons. You can also track your budget and communicate with other homeschoolers through Panda Post, a social networking tool for their users.

Here are some additional popular digital planners:

  • Homeschool Tracker Plus
  • HomeschoolHall
  • Scholaric Online Homeschool Planning
  • Homeschool Manager
  • Colearn planner
  • Homeschoolminder
  • Common Curriculum
  • Google Classroom
  • homeschoolskedtrack

Adapting Apps to Homeschool Planners

Some parents prefer to create their own homeschool planner by adapting general apps and platforms designed for productivity, project planning, collaboration, calendaring, notes, or task management.

Trello might be the most popular example of an app-gone-homeschool-planner. Take a look at this video explaining how to use Trello as a homeschool planner . The Facebook group, Trello for Educators , is an excellent resource.

Airtable is another app that can be transformed into a planner. (They even have a blog post about using Airtable for homeschooling ). Airtable has tables that can be used for courses, assignments, textbook titles and links, and more. You can set it up to work for each student, and you can use Airtable's custom interfaces to make everything easier for kids to see and check off as they go.

Homeschool parents mention using these and similar apps, alone or in combination, as their homeschool planners:

  • Google Tasks + Google calendar
  • Apple Calendar
  • Goodnotes (homeschool planner integrations for Goodnotes on Etsy)

Adapting teacher planners (paper)

Many homeschoolers enjoy using the teacher version of a planner they love, even though it's not specifically designed for homeschooling. These are frequently mentioned as best homeschool planners, even without homeschooling sections!

  • Erin Condren Teacher Planner
  • Oh Happy Day Lesson Planner
  • Simplified Teacher Planner
  • Purple Trail Teacher Planners
  • BlueSky Teacher Planner
  • Bloom Daily Planners

General planners

Regular planners and planning tools not designed just for homeschoolers or teachers may work for you, too. These are among those with great reviews by homeschooling parents:

  • Franklin Planner
  • At-A-Glance
  • Peter Pauper Press
  • Juniper Grove Journals
  • Laurel Denise Planners
  • Artful Agenda (digital) - also check out the Artfully Obsessed Facebook group
  • PassionPlanner - paper, digital, and some free printables
  • Any "To Do List" pad

Lots of parents like to make their own paper planners, digital planners, or old fashioned checklists.

You can use a spreadsheet, word processor, or graphics program and customize your planner, or you can pick up pen and paper to design your own.

Here are a few possibilities:

  • Homeschool bullet journaling
  • Spiral notebook planning
  • Canva Homeschool Planner Template
  • Google Sheets Homeschool Planner Template
  • Daily checklists (topic begins in earnest at 3:00)
  • Whiteboard checklists

Check Etsy and Teachers Pay Teachers for additional templates.

Planners When There's No Curriculum

Homeschoolers who focus on interests, projects, unschooling, unit studies, or a more relaxed approach to homeschooling may also have a more relaxed or varying approach to using a planner.

You may need

  • journaling space to help you generate ideas for resources and experiences to feed your child's interest
  • a calendar to help you get to music lessons and co-op on time
  • a daily routine
  • space for notes about the unplanned learning you see happening
  • a section for your child's questions and interests

And you may still want sections in a planner for meal planning, household management, and work schedules.

You may enjoy making "bingo cards" with your kids as part of your planner, naming experiences and learning ideas that aren't attached to specific lessons.

Our Planners for High School and College

We offer a free digital course planner for the many homeschoolers who take community college classes while in high school. Since these courses count towards a college degree, it is important to keep track of the courses taken and how they apply to the different degree programs. Our Community College Course Planner is a spreadsheet that tracks the courses taken and allows input of course/credit requirements for the chosen degree program to help the student stay on track with course choices.

Our free homeschool transcripts template will help you track the credits your high school homeschooler is earning, automatically calculates GPA, and produces a professional printable or digital transcript.

There are lots of people enthusiastic about using, choosing, designing, or enhancing their planners. These enthusiasts make up what has come to be called "the planner community." A lot of them are homeschool parents!

Enjoy their tips and learn from their experience on:

Planner accessories aren't necessary, but here are some of the popular ones for those who enjoy using them:

  • pens and markers (PandaFly, Ink Joy, Sharpie, Stablio)
  • highlighters
  • magnet and ribbon bookmarks
  • and even: pocket photo printers

Ban.do is one of many popular planner accessory websites.

You may find that using multiple planners, even a combination of paper and digital planning tools, works best for you, or you may find (or create!) the holy grail: that ultimate all-in-one planner that does it all for you and your homeschool family.

Hold your plan loosely, be flexible, and know the quest for your perfect planner will continue.

Finding the best homeschool planner for you is just one aspect of making your homeschool warm, efficient and effective. Check out our ultimate guide to homeschool organization to learn more.

What should be included in a homeschool planner?

A homeschool planner needs to have the pages and spaces you want. Your planner could feature:

  • lesson plan pages—for each child?
  • assignment pages—for each child?
  • subject pages
  • enrichment ideas and resources pages
  • unit study pages, project pages, or unschooling notes pages
  • monthly calendar (dated or undated?)
  • weekly schedule
  • daily routine
  • meal plan pages
  • home maintenance and cleaning pages
  • chore charts
  • habit tracking pages
  • notes, journaling, and reflection pages
  • a place to track hours or attendance

Your planner could also include tracking pages to record field trips, books read, milestones met, notes about your kids' high school credits, and special memories.

You may also want to use your planner to track how your family is meeting state requirements.

Homeschool record keeping and homeschool planners are closely related, but some planners may not have a place for all the homeschool records you want or need to keep, or you may prefer to keep planning and some of your record keeping separate.

Should I choose a paper or digital homeschool planner?

Most people choose a paper homeschool planner or digital homeschool planner based on whether they are drawn to paper or digital tools in general.

Paper planners are great for their portability, and some parents who want to manage their online time prefer paper homeschool planners. Paper planners with optional extra "inserts" allow you to add specific pages and sections to your planner, so you're only carrying what you need. Some people enjoy the tangible nature of writing in a paper planner, finding the nature of pen-on-paper to be part of the process—it slows you down and can draw you into a contemplative state. Bullet journals have become popular and work well as homeschool planners, too.

If you spend a lot of time in an online environment, you'll probably find a digital planner to fit into your online life. Some online planners, such as Homeschool Planet , give students and adults their own logins, so kids and teens can easily find their assignments and check them off when they are complete. Adults who are tag teaming home education can also share plans and progress effectively with a good digital planner. Online planners that have apps and/or mobile design are easy to check and add to on a phone or tablet, increasing portability. Good digital homeschool planners can cut down on making repetitive entries, since assignments are easy to duplicate and move around.

How do you use Homeschool Planet?

You can use Homeschool Planet, a popular online homeschool planner, from a browser on your computer or mobile device. While there is not a separate app for phones and tablets, there is a mobile version that works well.

Homeschool Planet is already pre-coordinated with many curricula, making it especially easy to add lessons to your homeschool calendar.

Your kids can have their own log-ins to Homeschool Planet, and you can also print your plans if you want them to follow along on paper.

There's a Homeschool Planet YouTube channel with tutorials and user guides.

See Homeschool Planet's Frequently Asked Questions for more information on how to use the program.

Free Homeschool Student Planner

If you are like me, and trying to bring a little more organization into your crazy, homeschool life then you might appreciate this post. Because, I am sharing a homeschool student planner for free.

A while ago, I got on a planner-page-making kick… and this week, I finally decided to put together the ones that would work best for this year.

Since they are fairly generic, I thought some of my homeschooling mama friends could possibly benefit from them as well. Let me know what you think!

Benefits of Homeschool Student Planners

  • Gives clear objectives . Having a planner not only helps the teacher to clearly articulate what they expect but it allows the students to know exactly what they are supposed to be doing.
  • Reduces Stress.   Having a clear picture of what is on the student’s ‘to do’ list prevents them from becoming overwhelmed with their tasks. They can view them in bite-sized pieces
  • Increases productivity. Clear communication and organization always leads to more things getting done, and less time wasted.
  • Teaches responsibility. Giving a student their own planner allows them to manage their own time and tasks. This teaches responsibility and self-discipline.
  • Tracks Progress . Keeping track of places they’ve been, or books they have read, gives a sense of progress and completion of a job well done. Which in turn, fosters motivation and confidence.

Tips for Helping your Child Use a Planner

To begin with, most kids don’t naturally have a sense of organization and planning, but it can be developed through some gentle encouragement and basic habit training .

My suggestion is to start off on the right foot by making it a fun experience. Give your child some stickers, or sparkly gel pens to decorate their planner and make it their own.

Then to begin developing the habit of using it, encourage them to refer back to it daily. Remembering that building a habit doesn’t happen over night but can take weeks to establish.

Lastly, be consistent in promoting self responsibility. Therefore, teaching kids to see the benefits of self-discipline and how it makes them feel as an individual gives them a ‘why’ to using their planner.

Choosing the Right Planner for your Student

First, this decision will vary for each child and their style of learning.

Secondly, if you have a child who is regularly over-stimulated, you are going to want to choose a very simple format. Perhaps, even a notebook with a minimal daily list of tasks they can check off.

Lastly, don’t be afraid to do a little trial and error. Give it some time and see what printable weekly homework planner works best for your student.

To give you a bird’s eye view of this printable student planner download, here are the contents:

This particular printable planner is simple and straightforward, but it allows planning for the month, week, and day, which I find helpful. It also includes a section to write down course goals and progress along the way.

This planner is a black and white (cheaper to print, yay!), simple planner with options to plan things you may not always remember to track, like books read and grades from assignments.

There is a page to break down each day with assignments, activities, and even a schedule. I’m impressed by this one!

What I love about this planner is that it has space to track attendance, field trips, and supplies. I always forget to purchase supplies in advance, so that makes this particular planner awesome.

If you do a lot of unit studies in your homeschool, you’ll love this printable homeschool planner designed with unit studies in mind.

This planner has a place to write unit study assignments and what the student needs to learn in other areas to correspond with the study.

This is my favorite planner for older kids. I haven’t seen a better one for sale anywhere.

  • ESPAÑOL
  • Choosing Planning Tools That Work for Me

Paper planner, phone app, Google suite, white board—how will we know what to study each day?

When it comes to homeschool planning styles and planning tools, the sky’s the limit!

You can keep it super simple and streamlined . . . you can get really detailed . . . you can even get really creative.

There are digital and paper options—or you can use a combination of planning tools.

As a parent, you likely already plan your family’s life in a number of areas:

  • menu planning,
  • chores and housework,
  • kids’ extracurriculars,
  • weekly outside-the-home activities,
  • morning and evening routines,
  • special events like birthdays and holidays,
  • shopping, and . . .

What’s on your list? These are things you’ll need to keep in mind and weave into your family’s calendar along with homeschooling as you get into academic planning.

So as you think about all these areas, do you use the same tool or different types of planning tools for different areas?

For example, do you use a phone app or a sticky note for menu planning . . . but use a whiteboard or chalkboard to plan out your kids’ chores or daily routines? For scheduling family events and commitments, do you prefer a digital or paper calendar?

If so, you may find that you want different tools for different aspects of homeschooling.

Here are some of the most popular types of planning tools used by many homeschool parents (not in any particular order). But keep in mind that you can use any planning tool(s) that work for you, even if it’s not on this list!

  • Traditional daily/monthly/yearly academic or homeschool planner that offers blocks for recording each day’s assignments
  • Simple journal or notebook for keeping a diary or running narrative of school assignments and accomplishments
  • Online “cloud-based” planning service (often with mobile apps)
  • Combination of online productivity / business tools

Just remember, you’re the boss! Whatever you choose, it’s your tool.  If you start to feel like you’re serving the planner instead of the planner serving you, don’t hesitate to change it up!

Paper Planners

Traditional academic planners.

You can purchase traditional, simple academic planners at an educational supply store or online. Here are a few possibilities. A quick Google search will reveal lots more options.

  • The Ultimate Homeschool Planners are 52-week undated planners that work for up to six children, allow for traditional lesson planning and narration, and provide a wide variety of forms, charts, articles inspirational quotes, and Scripture verses. Teen and student planners are also available.
  • The A+ Homeschool Planner is an undated planner and recordkeeper in one with color-coded sections for easy access. Provides weekly, monthly, and yearly planning space for up to six kids, as well as year-in-review pages.
  • The Well-Planned Day Planners are fully-dated, one-year planners come in several forms—homeschool planners, student planners, college planners, and a prayer planner. They keep everything for a homeschool mom in one place: dinner menus, school assignments, family calendar, and helpful charts and forms.
  • Erin Condren carries a wide variety of customizable planners, ranging from life planners to teacher lesson planners to focused planners (for minimalists) to wedding planners. These come in durable binders and can be customized to fit your needs.
  • The Homeschooler's High School Journal is a spiral bound weekly lesson layout with a plastic softcover. It includes calendars, a daily subject log, pages to track annual requirements, field trips, objectives, and resources, library lists, daily attendance/grade charts, and an hours log. The Homeschooler's Journal is also available for younger years.
  • My Homeschool Planner was designed by a mom who homeschooled 17 kids! It includes weekly lesson plans, reading lists, projects and achievements, unit study planning sheets, field trips, curriculum planning, goal setting, certificates of progress, Bible verses, and helpful hints for use.

Journals or Notebooks

You can use a simple spiral-bound composition book, a journal, or a hybrid planner that has weekly journaling sections built into the body of a traditional planner.

  • If you enjoy writing and don’t want to be confined to little boxes, you might want to try journal or narrative lesson planning.
  • As you’re planning assignments and recording what your kids have accomplished, your journal can take on a bullet-journal or scrapbooking feel.
  • You might also want to purchase a student planner or inexpensive traditional planner to record your child’s assignments. Then they can check the planner to see what assignments lie ahead. And if they’re old enough, they can mark off what they’ve accomplished (you’re still reviewing, of course).

PRO TIP: If you are writing your journal entries at the end of the school day or week (and you don’t have daily assignments recorded anywhere else), try hard to stay current so that you don’t have to go back and do extensive writing to catch up.

Looking for more customizable printables? These can range from free to quite expensive. Here are a few examples. (You can also search “homeschool planner” and “homeschool recordkeeping forms” on Etsy for creative solutions—lots of different styles and even different educational approaches.)

  • 10+ Free Homeschool Planner Printables  gathered by Homeschooling Today magazine range from simple to detailed and customizable.
  • Confessions of a Homeschooler  carries dated and undated downloadable, printable homeschool planners, as well as lesson planning, recordkeeping, and daily household life options.
  • Homeschool Helper Online offers free undated printables—from simple planning sheets to recordkeeping forms.
  • Homeschool Recordkeeping Forms (undated) developed by Beverly Hernandez span attendance tracking to specific subjects and progress reports, which you can download (and modify) for free.

Tips for Using Your Paper Planner

  • If you use your paper planner to list out your child’s detailed daily assignments, you may want to consider doing microplanning at shorter intervals, like monthly, bi-weekly, or even weekly. (If you work too far ahead, inevitable real-life interruptions—for illness, a day where life happened instead of school, or for a child who is ahead or behind schedule—can make adjusting your plan a real challenge.)
  • So, if you plan more than a month in advance, use a pencil instead of a pen!
  • You can also use your paper planner to record completed work or assignments.

PRO TIP: Whatever you’re recording, you’ll thank yourself for staying as current as possible.

Digital Planners

If you prefer using apps and online planning tools, you have a lot of options at your fingertips. Don’t want to reinvent the wheel? You could use an out-of-the box complete homeschool planning app or cloud service. Are you pretty tech-savvy and looking to create your own? You can use some standard (and often free) office productivity tools to craft your personal planning suite!

Digital Homeschool Planners

Digital Homeschool Planners will lay out for you just about everything you need to plan (and often to keep records) for your homeschool. That means things like lesson planning, assignments, weekly schedules, attendance, grades, test dates and results, report cards, etc.

Some are designed just for you as a parent, while others allow your children to access certain areas, such as seeing their upcoming assignments. Most digital planners are cloud-based, securely storing your information online so you can access it anywhere from any device—your tablet, laptop, or phone.

And one of the nicest things about digital planning is that when you need to adjust assignments, you can without having to erase or scratch out the prior ones!

Here are a few options:

  • HomeschoolPlanet.com gives you the option of planning your own lessons or buying lesson plans for a number of popular curricula. It automatically generates daily assignments and provides separate logins for each student or family member. You can choose what your children are able to view and edit.
  • Homeschoolminder.com provides a completely interactive, digital planner that helps you organize lessons, assignments, and grading. It also comes with forms for report cards, transcripts, daily activities, and lesson plans.
  • Well Planned Gal Online Planning offers you weekly assignment sheets, attendance records, progress reports, custom calendar views by student, chores and checklists, homeschool yearbook, printables, and reports. You can assign multiple students to the same course and easily move assignments in batches. The add-on ready-made lesson plans for specific curriculum could save you bundles of time.

Combination of Online Productivity / Business Tools

Google Suite —in particular, Google Calendar, Google Sheets (spreadsheet), Google Docs (wordprocessing), and Google Keep (notetaking) are free online interactive cloud-based tools. Free mobile app versions are also available.

These tools allow you to enter assignments and share them with your students. Additionally, you can use Google Sheets to calculate grades and as a grade book.

Using the interactive features can be great for high school students and tech savvy middle school students. For example, you can enter students’ assignments in Google Sheets and share them with your student.

Students can use Google Docs to do their assignments, especially writing papers. They can share their papers and work with you, and you can correct and edit their assignments with them in real time, or after the fact.

Evernote.com and other notetaking/organizing apps like CintaNote  or Trello  can be customized to fit your homeschool planning and project needs.

To get an idea of what apps like these can offer, here’s one mom’s description of why she likes Evernote: “Evernote is a program that is like a huge blank canvas and a huge empty filing cabinet all rolled into one,” says Mystie Winckler. “This is great for our use as homeschool moms, who have such individual needs. It is as versatile as a stack of blank paper, a set of tab dividers, and a huge binder!” Want to learn more? Check out her Five Ways to Use Evernote for Homeschooling .

Here’s some helpful quick comparisons of popular digital planning options  for homeschool lesson planning.

The best planning tools are the ones that work for you! No matter what you choose (or don’t choose!), it’ll be rewarding and confidence-building to find your own homeschool planning groove.

Printable Weekly Assignment Sheet for Students Post Preview: Use this free printable weekly assignment planner to help students in the classroom or in homeschool to track daily assignments or homework. Sheets are available in both color and black and white.

I have always loved planners and checklists. For me, and so many other people, they’re a great way to stay organized and get things done.

When we homeschooled, the years that I felt that we all had things together the best was when we started using daily and weekly checklists for assignments. Checklists helped me when I was planning and it helped the kids stay organized and know what to expect.

To help you and your children or students stay more organized this school year, I have a new set of printable weekly assignment sheets available in both color and black and white.

Weekly Assignment Sheet for Students

Note: The printable assignment sheet set is available farther down in the post.

Printable Weekly Assignment Sheet for Students

This weekly assignment sheet set contains two options and both come in the set.

There is an option that is in black and white, which can save on printer ink. If you use this option, your children or students could even use some light-colored markers or highlighters to color in the boxes with the subject name in them. Of course, they could also just leave them as is.

Weekly Assignment Tracker in Black and White

The other option is in color (just in the headings of each section) and uses colors inspired by the very popular Zebra Mildliner Highlighters . This is a very visually appealing option, especially if you have access to a color printer. (Here is a newer version of the color printer I have and love .)

Side note on these highlighters: Both my husband and daughter have been using these and are raving about them!

Which Subjects are Included on the Printable Weekly Assignment Sheet?

The weekly assignment planner has sections for the following subjects:

  • Reading Log
  • Social Studies
  • Other (you could fill in religion, foreign language, or any other subject or task; if you write small enough, you might be able to put multiple things on the same line)

More about the Reading Log

The reading log section is different than the other sections of the weekly assignment sheet. It has a spot to write down the title of the book that the student is reading, the day, the amount of time to spend reading, and either how many pages to read or specifically which pages to read.

If you’d like an additional reading log, you might like these:

Ways to Use the Weekly Assignment Sheet Set

While I’m sure you creative people out there can probably figure out more ways to use the weekly assignment planner sheets, I have two suggestions for ways to use them.

1. Use it for Writing All Assignments

In a homeschool setting, you could write out the week’s plans for your child and give them the sheet all filled in at the beginning of the week. They can then check off items as they finish them all week. This was the method I used in our homeschool, especially as my children got older.

If you want to do this same idea in a classroom setting, you might give your students the blank form and then tell them what to write in for each day or have it on a whiteboard for them to copy down.

2. Use it Exclusively for Homework

Students could use the weekly assignment sheet to write down all of their homework throughout the week. In this method, students would only write down their homework in each section, not every assignment.

The Matter Unit Study has been a work in progress for some time. My students and I worked through this unit in the fall, but I have been unable to get everything uploaded until now. So, you will find as you scroll through the Matter Unit Study that it has been broken into parts including: Introduction to Matter,  Properties of Matter ,  States of Matter , and  Changing States of Matter . Days of Creation Journal

Days of Creation Journal

Draw and write sheets are an excellent tool to use with budding writers. They encourage comprehension, writing structure, and retention of learned information. Students also find them less intimidating than a blank sheet of paper. In this particular set, your student will create a Days of Creation Journal complete with cover sheet. Walk your student through the days of creation reading appropriate scripture and discussing what God created on each day. Your student will draw and write each day constructing a memorable  Days of Creation Journal ! Be sure to check out our whole collection of creation printables and activities here!

Free Educational Slideshows

Candy Hearts Observation Lab

Looking to supplement your homeschool or try something new? We offer over  50 educational slideshows . Some are geared for our youngest learners teaching  numbers & counting . Other slideshows focus on preschool skills  teaching letter and beginning sounds . Many of our educational slideshows are  science based and still others are for enrichment studies. Starburst Rock Cycle Lab Sheets

Starburst Rock Cycle Lab Sheets

With any unit study we attempt, I try really hard to find a hands-on activity to go with the reading and notebook questions. The  Starburst Rock Cycle Lab is an awesome way to visually act out the processes that rock undergo in the rock cycle. From erosion and weathering to heat and pressure, this lab helps students grasp the natural processes that occur on and in the crust. The  FREE Lab Sheets help your students to solidify learned information. There is a rock cycle diagram worksheet too that helps kids practice using a diagram. Have fun and go make some Starburst rocks and magma!

Distribution of Earth's Water Demonstration

Distribution of Earth's Water Demonstration

The Distribution of Earth’s Water Demonstration is easy to implement in your classroom or homeschool. It requires very little preparation and a minimal materials list. This demonstration pairs wonderfully with our  Distribution of Earth’s Water Unit. In any unit study, it is always a bonus if you can incorporate hands-on activities and visuals. Read more to find out how you can implement this easy demo using only cups and a bottle of water! Check out Distribution of Water Demonstration here!

Organize Your Student’s Day With Clipboard and Checklist Download

Two Versions Student Checklist Free Homeschool Planner

One of the best things about the homeschool moms who have downloaded my homeschool planner is that they are always coming up with ideas for new planning pages.

I have been working hard behind the scenes to get these out to people who request them and also to get them to you as well. I have a bit of a backlog so bear with me!

Today, we are talking about the student clipboards we use to help organize the kids’ day. In this less-than-three-minute video, I give you an overview of how we use them and some tips.

Things that go on our clipboards:

  • Weekly checklists (see below)
  • Any perforated worksheets like our math or All About Reading sheets.
  • Copywork sheets
  • Lesson tracking sheets from our curricula.
  • Work in progress.

Free Homeschool Planner: Student Weekly Checklists

I am including two download options for you for a student weekly checklist. I am always tweaking and changing and this is the latest one I came up with at the beginning of the year.

I have ours typed out and just print it in black and white each week — nothing fancy. We use a four-day option because we have co-op on Tuesdays. I have also included a five-day option as well. Download the one that helps you the most.

Four Day Student Weekly Checklist

Free Homeschool Planner Five Day Student Checklist Pam Barnhill Homeschool Solutions

Five Day Student Weekly Checklist

Free Homeschool Planner Five Day Student Checklist Pam Barnhill Homeschool Solutions

These have been really handy keeping us on track. I don’t know about at your house, but sometimes at ours the day gets crazy and it is hard to remember what has and has not been done. A quick glance down the checklist makes sure everything gets finished before they distract me so much I forget what needs to be done.

Like all of my free and paid planning pages you can type in these using Adobe Reader, save them to your computer, and print them again and again. This free homeschool planner tutorial will show you how.

Homeschool Planner & Student Assignment Book Pages

Homeschool Planner & Student Assignment Book Pages

Create a homeschool planner notebook for you and a student homeschool planner for the kids!

We have two different "styles" of homeschool forms you’ll see below. Some have cute clipart and some are bare bones basic. Our homeschool planner pages are printed in large volumes. Minimizing use of ink is important. So for the forms that will be used over and over, I have not included the clipart. Also, by leaving off the clipart, I was able to provide the XLSX & XLS forms in "unprotected" mode so you can basically edit anything you like … even the columns & rows sizes. Lots of versatility! Of course, if you WANT to add color, you can! Some forms have multiple worksheets so be sure to check those out when you open the files. If you’re using files with multiple children, I would highly recommend saving multiple copies of the files … (example…"weekly_planner-pdfe", "weekly_planner_pdfe_Johnny", "weekly_planner_pdfe_Susie", etc.).

Assignment sheets keep my homeschool flowing smoothly. The kids know what they need to do each day. Grab your free homeschool planning sheets here!

You need a weekly homeschool planner! Why?

Let me ask you this, what is the most important part of your homeschool? Is it your curriculum, books, or supplies? Actually no. It’s your weekly plan!

Without a plan, you have no idea where to start! Should you read a science, history, or literature book? For that matter which book should you read!

And then the kids spend the entire day yelling, “Mom, what do I do now?” It gets old… fast.

So every weekend I spend a few minutes filling out these weekly homeschool planning sheets that you can find in the resourc e library for the kids and myself. Some years I have the teens fill out the sheets for themselves. Right now, I’m filling the sheets out instead.

I print as many as I need. In my case, that means 3 sheets.

First I grab one of the teens and begin filling it out. Math is always the easiest subject, so I usually start with that. Then I move on to planning Tapestry of Grace .

Assignment sheets keep my homeschool flowing smoothly. The kids know what they need to do each day. Grab your free homeschool planning sheets here!

Before I go on, I combined my high school teens this year. This means they’re doing the same assignments in Tapestry of Grace and science. Or English, history, art, music, and science. So planning for one, means I’m planning for both! If you’re not familiar with Tapestry of Grace , you should know it includes our English, history, art, and music studies.

I quickly jot down the literature readings for each day and when we’ll sit down for the weekly discussion.

Now I take a look at the accountability and thinking questions, and mapwork, before I sit down to assign the readings. Nothing is more frustrating than assigning the questions to the wrong book! Once I’ve written down our plans for history, art, and music, I’ll go back and add the writing assignments for the week.

Time to plan science! I thumb through the science text and take a look at where we are and what needs to be done. Then I also think about how the kids understand the material. Do we need more time?

Once science is done, I fill out Latin or Japanese (depending on the child).

Before I move on, I quickly copy all combined assignments. After all, why do the work twice? I also note important assignments on my own sheet that involve me. Tests, papers, discussions, experiments, projects, etc.

The younger kids’ assignments are jotted down on my sheet instead of individual sheets, as they currently do all their work sitting next to me. However, this may be changing soon. My little 2nd grader has been requesting to receive an assignment sheet like the big kids. Since she’s starting to be able to handle some independent work, I’ll start giving her an assignment sheet this semester.

These assignment sheets keep my homeschool flowing smoothly. The kids know what they need to do each day!

Awesome! I’m thrilled to hear that, Robin! 🙂

Please help would love a daily planner for year R. Most of us are home schooling and to be honest not quite sure where to start. Reading, maths PE and playtime.

One place to start for year R or what is called preschool in the USA, is with this post: https://classicallyhomeschooling.com/classical-preschool-hands-exploration-world/ . You don’t need a complicated routine for young kids. I like to do reading and math after breakfast. Then send your child outside for PE/play. Ride bikes. Throw balls. Kick balls. Have fun. Then head inside for lunch. After lunch, settle your child down for quiet time or a nap while you take a few minutes to relax. Spend some time playing. Enjoy a few crafts. Have dinner. And read classic books aloud during your bedtime routine.

Weekly assignment sheets are a great way to help our children ( and even us ) to stay on track and organized with homeschool assignments,  daily life and activities. There are so many ways that you can use a homeschool planner, but I prefer simple, and something that doesn’t take up a lot of time to use. I really like things that I can just print off and fill in, that I don’t have to exert a lot of energy to create.

Mom Delights has done all of the hard work for you, and has created these simple assignment sheets that will go perfectly in a binder. These are great for a homeschool portfolio as well. I like that there are three different sheets, which will work for younger children, older children and teens. She even shows examples of how to use these. There is room for basic assignments, and blank lines to keep track of narration and dictation quotes. There is even a section for chores!  Click on over here to grab these awesome assignment sheets .

Two choices of student planners from Homeschool Creations - help get your student on track_edited-4

Ready to start working on time management and study tracking with your kids? These Student Planners will help students keep up with assignments, projects, exams, and important dates for school while simplifying YOUR day.

Our kids worked together with me to create a larger planner (8.5″ x 11″) to use since the half-sized planners just didn’t have enough space for them to fit it all in. The result is a student planner that we all love.

These Student Planners are FULL of color, have plenty of space, are undated, and can be reprinted each year to bind however you choose.  Having an undated planner allows students to personalize it more to their liking. It also means that the planner is good for years to come. Students have a chance to sit down and set it up the way they want to – one step in taking ownership of their studies.

Inside the Student Planner

Want a peek inside? I promise it’s super simple – because we found we really didn’t need so much extra stuff – but it’s FULL of color and ready to download and print.

A quick note: I figured out that our printer will print BORDERLESS. It was one of the paper choices in settings. In the video you’ll see some of the pages that we experiments with (ones that were or weren’t printed all the way to the edge). Our front and back covers were printed onto cardstock and then laminated for extra durability. We use a heavy weight paper (24 lb.) to print the planner and make the pages a little thicker.

Weekly-Student-Planner-layout-from-Homeschool-Creations.jpg

The Student Planner contains :

  • 8 1/2” x 11” undated pages – use it year after year!
  • Year at a glance dates
  • Student information and schedule page
  • 12 blank monthly planning pages
  • Weekly planning pages for 8 subjects
  • Planning for every day of the week (smaller spaces for Saturday/Sunday)
  • Goals, notes, and ‘what I learned’ section
  • Tracking for books read
  • 2 layouts: August through July or January through December

Two Great Designs

Choose the student planner that best fits your family’s needs – or choose both (there’s a special bundle price for purchasing two).

Student Planner collage_edited-1

The abstract circle graphic student planner features the colors green, dark blue, and a turquoise blue color for the monthly layouts.

The hexagon graphic student planner features the same inside layout with the colors green, orange, and a medium blue for the weekly layouts.

Purchase a Student Planner

This student planner is undated so you have the option of printing off a new copy each year. Each planner is available for $10 and you are more than welcome to print off copies for each of your children – this year and in years to come. Purchase both planners together in a bundle and save even more!

Your purchase also allows access to a ‘buyers only’ page where optional pages will be added including additional dated covers and other pages as readers/users request.

The Student Planner is only available as a pdf download and prints off double-sided. There are THREE different purchase options. Choose from the following:

  • Purchase the Student Planner (circle graphic) – $10
  • Purchase the Student Planner (hexagon graphic) – $10
  • Purchase BOTH Student Planner versions – $16 (save 20%)

Hi there! I was excited about finding your planner recently. Are you able to email me directly about printing issues and Q’s? Thanks kindly. :)

' src=

Sure! Feel free to email me at [email protected] :)

It’s so beautiful! Can’t wait to print it! I’m going to do one for me and one for my daughter!

Oh, Katie!! Thanks so much – hope she loves it as much as ours do!

I went to print my planner and I can’t find in anywhere! Is there any way you could tell me where I can find the download once I’ve purchased again?

' src=

It looks great! I make my own yearly teaching planners because I have never found one that I really like when it comes to planning out for all my kids in one spot. Now that my oldest is in need of doing her own planning, I have been looking to either find one or make one (which I really don’t have time for just now). This will be great for her! I love all the colors and designs too. That is one thing I don’t have much of in mine because I am limited with the programs I am using… but I do have some fun colors on certain pages which makes planning bright and cheery!

Is there a way to get access to the updated calendar page if I purchased this during the Build Your Bundle Sale?

Jessica – check the last page of the planner. There is a link to the secret page as well as the password where the extras are! :)

Thank you! Just now figured out my printers borderless printing (after cleaning out a mess of leaked ink inside the printer) so I guess I didnt make it to the last page! My daughter (6th) is very excited to have her own planner. She begged me to get your planner when she saw me looking at it.

I know the front and back pages you printed are on card stock, but did you just use regular weighted paper for the other pages?

I purchase my paper from Costco (not in a huge box, but a plastic wrapped ream). It’s a heavier feel paper overall and I prefer that compared to a lighter paper. It’s a 24 lb Xerox brand. :)

How many pages is it total? I’m trying to figure out how much paper to buy.

152 total with back cover black (so 76 double sided).

Hi just wanted to know if i was to change my printer settings to make it print out 5×7 do you know if that would work out? Many thanks x

Gracie – I’m not sure how that would work. I’ve never tried it, but I have a feeling it would involve a lot of trimming and cutting!

Hi Jolanthe! I’ve used your hexagon Aug. to July student planners the last 2 years and plan to do the same for this 2019-2020 school year. Last year I printed the planners without the year at a glance calendar on the inside cover because it was from the previous year. However, my daughter missed having that. Do you have an updated version for the 19-20 school year? If not, no worries. I’m sure I can find one online somewhere. Just thought I’d check here first. Thanks!

The updated calendars and covers are on the bonus download page – link is on the inside back cover. ;)
