A 15-year-old girl was struck by a stray bullet that flew through a window into her Queens home late Tuesday — and appeared to take the harrowing incident in stride.

The teen was doing homework in the dining room of her house on 113th Road near 205th Street in St. Albans around 11 p.m. when a bullet whizzed through the front window.

On Wednesday, she posted an endearing note on her front door for reporters.

“Hey besties, girl who got shot here! I have no comment,” the handwritten note states.

“Come back after the Regents for a statement,” she added, referring to the statewide tests that all city students are required to take.

The teen was struck once in the right shin, cops said.

Her father called 911, and reported he heard multiple gunshots being fired outside his home before his daughter was shot, the sources said.

Three bullet holes were discovered on the front door, according to the sources.

One of the bullets arched into the doorway, missing the teen, police sources said.

The teen was taken to Cohen Children’s Medical Center, where she underwent surgery and was discharged later Wednesday, according to family and police.

Footage from a neighbor’s home surveillance system shows three suspects pull out guns and open fire before fleeing toward Francis Lewis Boulevard, sources told The Post.

Twenty-one 9mm shell casings, as well as five fired bullet fragments, were recovered on scene.

No arrests have been made, and police have not identified any suspects.

The motive for the shooting, and the intended target, were both unknown Wednesday morning.

“New Yorkers must be safe in their own homes, ” Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell tweeted . “Every NYPD resource is being utilized to find those responsible for the shooting on 113th Rd. in Queens last night that resulted in a 15-year-old girl being struck and injured while in her dining room.”

The shooting comes just over a week after 72-year-old grandmother and retired librarian Margaret Henry was struck in the arm by a stray bullet in her South Ozone Park home.

Girl Struck By Stray Bullet While Doing Homework Returns Home For Rally

October 1, 2012 / 11:13 PM EDT / CBS New York

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Queens community is saying enough is enough to gun violence after a teenager was shot while doing homework.

The stray bullet struck her while she was inside her apartment.

On Monday, she returned home, CBS 2's Hazel Sanchez reported.

"I heard gunshots. I heard my mom screaming to go down to the ground. But when I went down I got shot by the third gunshot," Sanchez said.

The 15-year-old is still in pain, both physically and mentally, after she was shot through the hand last Sunday morning , while doing her homework inside her family's apartment at the Queensbridge Houses in Long Island City.

"I haven't been wanting to go back home or anything. It felt strange coming down here," Sanchez said.

Teary eyed and struggling to put on a brave face, Sanchez returned home Monday to a massive crowd of supporters. Local leaders and more than 100 people, friends and strangers alike, rallied around her with a very strong message.

"No more violence! No more violence!" the crowd chanted.

Lawmakers echoed the call.

"You are sending a message that you're not going to let violence define you, that you're not a victim.  You're a survivor," City Council Speaker Christine Quinn told Sanchez.

"We cannot have this happen in our community anymore. No more gun violence in Queensbridge," City Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer added.

Last week, police arrested 37-year-old Day Bryant for the shooting. His distraught mother was also in the crowd to welcome Sanchez home. She said her son is innocent, and was taking care of his toddler sons when gunfire erupted last weekend.

"My son was home. He can't be two places at the same time. The shooting happened at 5. My son was home!" Pricilla Bryant said. "The whole community knows, but people are afraid to come forward."

Sanchez and her family said regardless of the arrest, they don't feel safe in their home. They've moved out with an overwhelming amount of gratitude that Amy survived.

"I give a thousand thanks to God she's living," said Martha Sanchez, Amy's mother.

Councilman Van Bramer and Speaker Quinn said they are working together to find the Sanchez family a new home.

Nine-Year-Old Girl Shot & Killed In Ferguson While Doing Homework

Share the post, share this link via, or copy link.

A  Ferguson, Mo . family is desperate for answers after the shooting death of a 9-year-old girl identified as Jamyla Bolden .

Jamyla was shot and killed on Tuesday while doing homework on her mother’s bed,  KMOV   reports. Hearing five gunshots, Jamyla’s grandmother ran into the bedroom to find Jamyla hit and her mother – whose name was not released – shot in the leg.

The grandmother, whose name was also withheld for her safety, said Jamyla was still breathing when police arrived, the St. Louis Dispatch reports.

“I was holding her the whole time,” the grandmother said of the child Wednesday. “I kept holding and holding her, she was still breathing. I was telling her to just breathe.”

The St. Louis County coroner confirmed the girl later died from gunshot wounds. Her mother was treated for her injuries and released from the hospital. The family says they live in an area where a lot of people use a pass-through trail between West Florissant Avenue and Ellison Drive. The shooting happened near where 18-year-old  Michael Brown was killed last year.

Jamyla’s father, Pastor Willis Johnson , is devastated. Since last year, the pastor has worked closely with community leaders to end violence in Ferguson.

KMOV reports:

“There needs to be a reevaluation of human life: [whether] black, white, young, seasoned, whether in Ferguson, or areas considered affluent,” said Johnson. “This has to stop. This epidemic of lost life under false pretense and of no real significant reason has to change.”

Jamyla was a fourth-grader at Koch Elementary. Riverview Garden schools spokeswoman Melanie Powell-Robinson says the 9-year-old was excited to share her summer readings with her classmates.

“She was very sweet, kind and soft-spoken,” Powell-Robinson said. “We’re trying to figure out why in the world did this happen. We just can’t make sense of this.”

Ferguson Police Chief Andre Anderson released a statement assuring the public that authorities are investigating the senseless shooting. So far, there are no suspects or leads.

There will be a fundraiser for the child on Monday in Ferguson.

Bullet fired into home kills 9-year-old Ferguson girl doing homework

girl shot while doing homework

Police are searching for clues to identify the person who shot into a Ferguson, Mo., home, killing a 9-year-old girl doing homework on her mother’s bed Tuesday night.

During a news conference Thursday, Ferguson police Sgt. Dominica Fuller said Jamyla Bolden was fatally shot while her mother, 34, was shot in the leg and treated at a hospital.

Fuller, also a mother to a 9-year-old girl, was one of the police officers present at the scene. She tried to provide aid to Jamyla, but the child died later from the gunshot.

“You have a 9-year-old child on her mother’s bed doing homework and a bullet strikes her,” Fuller said. “Our concern is to get this person off the street.”

Jamyla’s grandmother told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch  said she ran into the bedroom after someone opened fire about 9:30 p.m. She did not want her name used in the newspaper because she feared for her safety.

“I kept holding and holding her,” the grandmother told the Post-Dispatch. “I still have her blood on my hands. She was still breathing. I was telling her to just breathe.”

Police said a motive was not known, but they are working on leads they have gathered thus far. Police also said they don’t know if the shots were fired from a car or from someone standing outside the home.

The Post-Dispatch reported there were five visible bullet holes on the exterior of the house: three in the screens of two windows with shattered glass behind them, and two more in the house’s aluminum siding.

The Associated Press reported that the small ranch home sits on a street that intersects with Canfield Drive, where unarmed African American teenager Michael Brown was killed a little more than a year ago by a white police officer. A house next to where Jamyla was shot has a yard sign that reads, “We Must Stop Killing Each Other.” Similar signs have sprung up around St. Louis as homicides are on the rise in the region.

“I never in a million years thought that I’d be laying my daughter to rest,” said James Bolden, Jamyla’s father, to KMOV-TV .

[ Around St. Louis, bloodshed rises in year since Michael Brown was killed ]

A vigil for Jamyla was held Thursday night where more than 200 people called for people to share information to help find the shooter, the Post-Dispatch reported .

“We all have to work collectively to heal this community and this family,” said Ferguson Interim Police Chief Andre Anderson , the newspaper reported.

FERGUSON, Mo. – Ferguson police are searching for clues about the killing of a 9-year-old girl who was shot when someone fired into a home where she was doing homework on her mother's bad.

No arrests have been made in Tuesday night's fatal shooting of Jamyla Bolden and police don't yet know if the home was targeted or the shots were random, Ferguson Sgt. Dominica Fuller said Thursday. Jamyla's 34-year-old mother was struck in the leg and treated at a hospital.

"You have a 9-year-old child on her mother's bed doing homework and a bullet strikes her," Fuller said. "Our concern is to get this person off the street."

The shooting happened a couple of blocks from the site where 18-year-old Michael Brown was fatally shot by a police officer on Aug. 9, 2014, sparking sometimes violent protests.

Fuller, herself the mother of a 9-year-old, was among the first officers at the home after the shooting, which was reported just after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. She said police did all they could to help the child, to no avail.

"As a mother I was hurt," she said. "I showed emotion and I cried and said a prayer for her and my heart is still broken."

Police don't know if the shots were fired from a car or from someone standing outside the home. Fuller would offer no details about where the bullets entered or how many were fired, saying she didn't want to hinder the investigation.

The small ranch home sits on a street that intersects with Canfield Drive, where Brown was killed. A house next door to where Jamyla was shot has a sign in the yard that reads, "We Must Stop Killing Each Other." Similar signs have sprung up around St. Louis and northern St. Louis County, known locally as North County, during a year when homicides are on the rise in the region.

"The simple fact is our kids are dying at a young age at a fast pace and we as a community must come together," Fuller said.

Jamyla was a fourth-grader at Koch Elementary School. A school district spokeswoman described her as sweet and soft-spoken.
