Grade 5 math percentage worksheets: Converting fractions, decimals - Using a Grid to Model Percents - What percent of the grid is shaded?

Start practice on Fifth Grade here

A percentage is a way of expressing a part of a whole as a fraction of 100. For example, if you have 25 apples out of 100, you can say that you have 25% of the apples. The symbol % means "per hundred" or "out of 100". You can also write 25% as a fraction of 25/100 or a decimal of 0.25. In fact, fractions, decimals, and percentages are all different ways of representing the same thing: a part of a whole.

How do you convert fractions to decimals?

To convert a fraction to a decimal , divide the numerator (the top number) by the denominator (the bottom number). For example, to convert 3/4 to a decimal, divide 3 by 4. You can use the long division method or a calculator to do this.

The answer is 0.75. This means that 3/4 is equivalent to 0.75 or 75%.

How do you convert decimals to percentages?

To convert a decimal to a percent , multiply it by 100 and add the % symbol. For example, to convert 0.75 to a percent, multiply it by 100. The answer is 75. Then you add the % symbol and get 75%. This means that 0.75 is equivalent to 75% or 3/4.

How do you convert percentages to fractions?

To convert a percent to a fraction, remove the % symbol and write it as a fraction with a denominator of 100. For example, to convert 75% to a fraction, remove the % symbol and write it as 75/100.

Then you can simplify the fraction by dividing both numbers by their greatest common factor (GCF). The GCF of 75 and 100 is 25, so divide both numbers by 25 and get 3/4. This means that 75% is equivalent to 3/4 or 0.75.

Some tricks can help students convert fractions into percentages faster and easier . Here are some examples:

To convert 7/10 to a percent, move the decimal point in 7 one place to the right and get 70%. To convert 9/1000 to a percent, move the decimal point in 9 three places to the right and get 0.9%.

To convert 12/50 to a percent, simplify it by dividing both numbers by their GCF, which is 2, and get 6/25. Then move the decimal point in 6, two places to the right, and get 600. Then divide it by 25 and get 24%.

  • If the denominator of the fraction is not a power or multiple of 10 but can be easily converted into one by multiplying or dividing both numbers by another number (such as 2, 4, 5, or 10), do that first and then use one of the previous tricks. For example, to convert 3/8 to a percent, multiply both numbers by 25 and get 75/200. Then simplify it by dividing both numbers by their GCF, which is 25, and get 3/8. Then move the decimal point in 3 two places to the right and get 300. Then divide it by 8 and get 37.5%.

A calculator can be used to convert decimals into percentages easily. Here are the steps:

  • Enter the decimal number on the calculator.
  • Press the multiply button (*).
  • Enter 100 on the calculator.
  • Press the equal button (=).
  • The answer will be the percentage equivalent of the decimal number.

For example, to convert 0.75 to a percent using a calculator, enter 0.75, press *, enter 100, press =, and get 75%.

Percentage Worksheet

Answer Sheet

A percent is nothing but a fraction having 100 in it's denominator. When a number is expressed in the percent form, it is called percentage. It is derived from a Latin word Per centum, and it's denoted as %.

Let's take some example to discuss more on the basics of percentage. John got 86 marks out of 100 in a math exam, then the percent of mark in mathematics = 86 ⁄ 100 = 86 % Bob got 91 marks out of 100 in the same exam, then the percent of mark = 91 ⁄ 100 = 91% Since 91% is greater than 86%, we conclude that Bob s performance is better than John in mathematics exam. The use of percent makes comparison easier as it is just like comparing whole numbers.

Percentage-1

To Convert a Percent into a common fraction, we must multiply the whole number of % by 1 ⁄ 100 and simplify the fractions.

Percentage-3

To convert a decimal number into percent, we must multiply the decimal number by 100 and write % sign along with it.

Percentage-5

To convert a percent into decimal, we must move the decimal point two places to the left and take off the % sign.

Percentage-7

To find a percent of given quantity, we must multiply the quantity by the equivalent fraction of the given percent.

Percentage-10

To express one quantity as a percent of another, we must convert both the quantities into the same units and then we must divide the given quantity to be expressed as percent of another quantity and multiply the result by 100.

Percentage-12

To find a quantity when a given percent of it is known, we must divide the known quantity by the given percentage.
