The best writing software and gadgets for writers

The tools you need to help you reach The End.

The best writing software and gadgets for writers

Whether it’s an essay for college, a report for work, or the epic novel that you’ve alway wanted to write, getting the words our of your head and down on paper - or on screen - can be hard work, especially in this day and age with so many distractions to deal with.

Fortunately, there’s a whole host of tech available to help make the process that bit easier, as this 'best writing software and gadgets for writers' list proves. It includes gadgets to help you get down your first draft, software to help block distractions, and tools to help you edit and improve your prose.

A decent notebook goes without saying, and Word and Google Docs are also no-brainers, but they’ll only go so far towards helping you reach the finish line, so below you'll find the best gadgets and software to help ease your path towards literary stardom.

The best writing software and gadgets for writers

1 . Scrivener 3

It can be a little overwhelming at first, but there’s a reason Scrivener is the novelists tool of choice. It’s made by writers, for writers, so there’s a whole host of functionality here that will help you plan and organise your writing as you go.

Create folders for documents, track your progress and word-count, export into a dozen or so different formats and store your research alongside your writing. Best of all, you can get a free 30 day trial that actually gives you 30 days of usage - not just 30 days of ownership - before asking you to upgrade. Even then, the full license is very reasonably priced and well worth a buy.

The best writing software and gadgets for writers

Another writing tool created by writers, for writers, Novlr offers many of the tools Scrivener does, but in a much prettier package. Simplicity is key here, with a super-clean focus mode, day, evening and night modes, and - one area where it’s way ahead of Scrivener - the ability to access your work from just about any device.

There’s also a no commitment free trial available, after which prices start at $8.33 per month.

The best writing software and gadgets for writers

3 . reMarkable

reMarkable allows you to write and sketch on a screen that feels like paper. The e-ink display is easy on the eye and the included stylus really does feel different than writing on any other tablet, and yes, due to a fairly recent software updates, it does include OCR, so you can write away and convert to digital text later on.

The Remarkable 1 is a great, compact device for taking notes or sketching, and that screen is as close to writng or drawing on paper as you can get. It's a unique experience, and we can’t wait to try the much improved reMarkable 2.

The best writing software and gadgets for writers

4 . Rocketbook Smart Reusable Notebook

Whiteboards are super useful writing aids, but they take up a load of wall space. A brilliant alternative is a reusable notebook. The Rocketbook is basically an A4 pad of re-usable pages that you can write on, then wipe clean.

The Rocketbook will also sync with Google Drive, Dropbox, Evernote and more. It's not cheap, but it's a lot more environmentally friendly than using paper, and if you're not interested in archiving your notes for prosperity, it's a great way to loosen up your mind. It's basically a whiteboard you can take anywhere.

The best writing software and gadgets for writers

5 . Freedom

How are you supposed to finish your masterpiece when you keep getting distracted? One way is to use a tool like Freedom, which allows you to block distracting websites and apps across your all of your devices. Simply tell it which sites and apps you need blocked, and Freedom takes care of the rest. It also includes scheduling functionality, so you can plan your distraction free writing time in advance.

The best writing software and gadgets for writers

6 . Hemingway App

Hemingway App is a free to use online tool that can help improve your writing. Paste in a block of text, and it will analyse your writing and make suggestions to increase readabiity.

The focus here is on simplifying your prose, removing weak phrases and getting rid of useless words. It's super simple to use and highly recommended if you're looking to reduce word count, without effecting the impact of your work.

The best writing software and gadgets for writers

7 . Freewrite

The Freewrite is a bit bonkers, but its also kind of brilliant, too. It’s a full-size, tactile, keyboard with a small e-ink screen. It connects to your Wi-Fi, but only to upload and download files, so there’s no distractions, and there’s also no backspace key, either. Weird, right? But what you’re left with here is a device that’s designed to help you put down as many words, with as few distractions, as possible. That makes it pretty unique.

The original Freewrite is a bit of a beast and you’re unlikely to lug it down to the local coffee shop, so we’re glad to see they’ve recently launched a more portable Traveller edition. And yes, it's costly, but many users swear by it and that keyboard is a pleasure to write with.

The best writing software and gadgets for writers

8 . Miracle Cube Timer

Writing in sprints is a great way to improve your productivity. There are plenty of online tools to use for this - Horo Timer is a great free tool for Mac owners - but a physical timer can sometimes prove more effective. Miracle Cube Timer is a simply little gadget that you can use to keep track of sprints. With set times of 5, 15, 30 and 60 minutes, it's a cheap and cheerful way to make sure you're giving your brain a break and keep focused on moving forwards and getting the words down on the page.

The best writing software and gadgets for writers

9 . Livescribe 2GB Echo Smartpen

If you prefer to write long-hand but don’t fancy using a tablet, then the Livescribe might just be the perfect solution for you. It’s the best smartpen on the market right now, and does a fine job of capturing your hand-writing and turning it into digital text. This version also records audio - linking it to your text - that can be replayed just by tapping on your notes. It uses special paper to make all that work, so be aware that there's an additional cost there, but as far as smartpens go, the Echo is currently the best you can get.

The best writing software and gadgets for writers

10 . Dropbox

Alternatives are available, but Dropbox seems to be the cloud storage service that most writing tools and apps will happily sync with. Believe us, saving your fantasy epic in the cloud, rather than on your desktop or laptop, is going to be the smartest thing you ever do when your computer next decides to give up the ghost.

A basic plan is free, but the Plus plan for individuals, offering 2TB of storage, will set you back £7.99 pm.

The best writing software and gadgets for writers

11 . Kindle

When it comes to editing your writing it’s best to get it off the screen so you can read it with fresh eyes. While that used to mean printing it out, now you can simply move it to a different screen! Send a word doc to your kindle email address and you can read your work, and make notes, with ease.

Of course, this method will work fine on any device that works with Kindle app, so you’re phone will do the job just fine, but to recreate the reading experience your audience wil have, a Kindle is perfect.

Do you take a lot of notes? Whether it's daily to-do lists, notes for class, or just jotting down the various thoughts in our brains, it's nice to have somewhere to write everything down. Sure, you could just open your Notes app , but physically writing something down helps you remember and learn more. It also feels nice to stop typing for a minute and write out the thoughts in your mind. If you worry about losing those notes if they aren't digitized, then good news: We've got the options for you.

There are E Ink tablets, smart pens, and notebooks made to save digital files of your handwritten notes or drawings. You can save files as PDFs, images, and Word Docs, or transcribe them to a text file in Google Docs to make all your notes searchable. Some of these devices can record too, which is great for lectures and interviews. If your notes need an upgrade, we recommend giving these a try. If you're looking for true paper options, don't miss our Paper Planners guide, and if you're prepping for heading back to school, catch our Best Laptop Backpacks and Best Totes guides to stash the below picks and your other school supplies in.

Updated August 2024: We've added the Rocketbook Fusion Plus as a pick, and updated our notes on the reMarkable 2 after testing the keyboard attachment.

Our Favorite

This is one of the most well-known names in the category. The reMarkable 2's matte screen feels like paper, writing on it is quick and responsive, and battery life is exemplary. WIRED senior commerce editor Julian Chokkattu has been using his reMarkable for more than a year and found it can last for several weeks on a charge. You never have to recharge the stylus, which also magnetically sticks to the side of the tablet. There is also a new keyboard attachment ($199) if you want to get some typing done, which is really satisfying to type on (and doubles as a notebook cover when the keyboard isn't in use). The tablet is $299, but you'll need to pay for a pen, which is an additional $79, or $129 if you want the one with an eraser on the other end.

There are many ways to organize your work into different notebooks or quick sheets, and you can sort them with tags and folders. You also upload PDFs and ebooks to the slate via the company's app or website, and reMarkable has a Chrome extension that lets you send any webpage to read on the tablet. You can integrate your notes into Google Drive, Dropbox, or Microsoft OneDrive. However, you may need a Connect subscription ($3 per month) to access syncing and unlimited cloud storage.

Best for To-Do Lists

The Supernote Nomad is small, measuring almost 6 inches on one side and 7.5 inches on the other. Supernote designed it with travel in mind, but I find it to be a great size for a daily digital to-do list or writing down quick notes from a meeting. The pages are a little short for, say, writing notes during a five-hour D&D session (I wrote 14 pages). The software is intuitive to use, and allows you to create multiple notebooks and choose from various templates for each one. There are tons of templates too, letting you choose from multiple lined pages, grids, and even a few calendars. You can organize your notes into folders, and can make a Word doc file too (though you won't have access to all the great templates).

It is a nice size to throw in a bag since it's so small, but I'd recommend it for meetings rather than class notes unless you're a true minimalist in your writing. I also liked using the Canvas Folio ($49) with it since it kept the pen with the e-notebook for me, and woke up the screen when I opened it.

Best for Books

Kobo makes some of our favorite e-readers , and this combines reading with note-taking. The Elipsa is pricey, but it comes with a stylus that allows you to mark up ebooks and compatible PDFs. If you're an English major who has to read multiple books a semester, this might be a great option for you to easily keep track of notes. Plus you can create numerous notebooks like the other tablets here. We also liked the marking interface better on Kobo than on Kindles, if you're debating which platform to choose. Pro tip: You can check out ebooks from your local library for free if you have a library card.

★ A cheaper, more colorful Kobo: There's a new Kobo e-reader out that offers some new features and a better price. The Kobo Libra Colour ($220) is waterproof and has new colorful options to highlight and write in the margins, but you'll need to purchase the Kobo Stylus 2 ($70) separately. We're testing it soon and will update this guide soon with our notes.

Best for Multiple Functions

Boox makes great E Ink tablets for taking notes, but the operating system is a little slower and less intuitive to navigate. Writing with the Note Air3's stylus felt similar to the above two picks, feeling natural and surprisingly similar to pen and paper. There are two versions of the tablet: the standard Air3 ($400) has a monochrome screen, while the Air3 C ($500) has a muted colored screen. Opening apps and starting up the device isn't quite as fast as I'd like it to be, and it takes a little getting used to Boox's Android system. Definitely read through the user manual because there are functions and gestures you can learn to make the process easier.

There are a bunch of apps available so you can read ebooks, check your emails, or browse your favorite newspaper. If you're looking for something with a nice variety of capabilities, the Boox has it—you just have to be willing to learn your way around it.

Person's hand drawing on the Iskn Repaper Graphic Tablet

Best for Beginner Artists

You can take notes with Repaper as easily as with the other items on this list, but I think artists will enjoy easily digitizing their work, especially those just getting started (it's cheaper than an iPad). Repaper uses a tablet and magnetized rings to automatically digitize notes as you work on real, physical paper. Any properly sized paper will work—if it's bigger than the tablet, you won't get an accurate digital version—as will any writing utensil that fits a Repaper Ring (it comes with a pencil).

The Repaper Studio app shows your work in real time if you want it to. That's especially handy if you want to draw directly on the tablet with the included stylus and not use paper or if you're sharing your screen via Zoom for class. If not, you can finish and upload your creation later. You can download sharable time-lapse videos too. It's not without its faults, and I occasionally found it to be buggy when switching between pens, but overall I was impressed.

Black digital notebook with a black pen on white surface

Best if You Want Real-ish Paper (With Digital Uploads)

If you really prefer the paper experience and don't want something you need to charge, then Rocketbook is for you. Rocketbook makes several reusable notebooks , planners , and accessories like flashcards . I like the Rocketbook Fusion Plus since it comes with a ton of different template styles, from your classic monthly and weekly pages to project management layouts and meeting notes, making it feel closer to the variety a digital notebook can offer you. Take notes with an erasable Pilot Frixion Pen (one should come with whichever item you buy), scan photos of the pages into the Rocketbook app, and erase the whole thing with the damp microfiber cloth (also included). The app is designed to keep everything organized and easily send things off to Google Drive, Slack, Trello, OneNote, and a handful of other options.

The pages feel like something in between laminated paper and an extra-slim whiteboard. I found it easy to write on with the Frixion pen, and easy enough to erase. It was harder to erase, say, one word rather than an entire section of notes though. Rocketbook also makes the Rocketbook Pro 2.0 ($60) , which has a more professional folio look to it, and I also really liked the reusable Sticky Notes ($24) since I tend to write a lot of quick lists and ideas down on any nearby sticky note. I also like that you can get a colorful expansion pack ($14) that the Rocketbook app will recognize and upload to the right spot (email to your work address, add to a Trello board, etc.) based on the color.

ipad mini with apple pencil

You May Prefer an iPad

E Ink notebooks are easier on the eyes and feel closer to paper than a glass-screened tablet. But in some cases, you might spend less getting an iPad and an Apple Pencil (and a keyboard if you also want to type sometimes). You can also do more on them thanks to the thousands of apps in the App Store, but still take notes and draw. An iPad is typically more intuitive to use than many of these digital notebooks too. Former WIRED reviewer Jaina Grey uses her 11-inch iPad Pro with the GoodNotes and Notability apps for her writing, but there are other models that should work fine.

Read our Best iPads guide to learn about the differences, and check out our Best Tablets guide for other Android offerings.

Neo smart pen and writing example

Our Favorite Smart Pen

Skip the tablet and write directly on paper with a smart pen instead. The Neo Smartpen M1+ is the thinnest and lightest of all the pens I tried, which makes it feel a bit more like your standard pen. Importantly, it's comfortable to hold and use. You should be able to find whatever size and style of notebook you need as well as planners .

The Neo Studio app ( iOS , Android ) is nice, with an easy-to-navigate notebook system and the ability to search for pages by page number or date. You can change the color of the ink and thickness of the lines right on the page as you go, or you can switch them up later and edit the colors of what you've written. This pen doesn't record audio, but if that's something you want, Neo sells a separate recorder ($69) that pairs with the pen.

★ Alternative: The Neo Smartpen Dimo ($59) is the cheapest and uses replaceable batteries. It isn't compatible with Google Calendar, iCal, or Outlook like our other picks.

Moleskin smart pen and writing example

A Runner-Up Smart Pen

Moleskine has garnered a devoted following for its classic notebooks and journals, but it has also moved into smart territory . The Smart Writing Set gets you a notebook and pen bundle, so this is the best option for most people starting out. Write in the notebook and it'll appear in the companion app! But you can buy the pen on its own, as well as the smart notebooks and planners in various sizes.

The Moleskine Notes 2.0 app (available on iPhone and Android ) was easy to use once I settled into it. An older version of the app is available for download, but the 2.0 version is more streamlined. A pop-up let me know that 2.0 is still a work in progress and I might need to switch back to the older version if my device is having trouble, but my iPhone 11 didn't have any issues.

Note: We tried the $149 2018 version of the Smart Writing Set, which is no longer available. We haven't tried the 2022 version. They seem identical, but the price has jumped dramatically to $279.

smart pen

This Pen Prioritizes Audio

The Livescribe Symphony has all the features you'd expect from a smart pen, but it places a heavier emphasis on the ability to record. There are Record, Pause, and Stop labels at the bottom of the notebook pages that you can activate just by pressing with your pen—a feature I really liked. However, the app is a bit clunky, and its transcription tool isn't as good as the other picks on this list. It's still available from Walmart, but no longer for sale on Livescribe's website so it may not have a long life left.

The Symphony doesn't have a power button. Instead, it turns on when the cap is removed and off when the cap is replaced. This is a nice feature, in theory, to make sure you don't forget to turn it on before you start writing. However, the cap easily pops off, which means you risk leaving it turned on and draining the battery.

What About the Kindle Scribe?

The Amazon Kindle Scribe ($340) ( 8/10, WIRED Recommends ) is similar and slightly cheaper than the Kobo Elipsa we recommend for readers. They work basically the same, with easy-to-use notebook options. We usually prefer Kindle's interfaces for reading , but marking books is actually simpler on the Kobo—with the Kindle, you have to use sticky notes instead of writing directly on the page. It's fine if you don't take frequent notes, but if you're looking to write in the margins and use colorful highlights, you'll want a Kobo.

Moleskine smart pen

Do You Need a Digital Note Device?

The short answer is no. These devices are expensive, usually costing several hundred dollars when you can simply buy a notebook and pen for a few bucks. But if you like the physical act of writing over typing but need to have digital copies, they're worth considering.

  • Digital notebooks are thin and light but hold hundreds of notes.
  • You can transcribe your notes into text files, making them easier to read and manipulate.
  • Depending on the device, you can export files as PDFs, Google Docs, Evernote files, and more.
  • Instantly digitizes your art too.
  • Need to be charged.
  • Have a learning curve.
  • Most smart pens need to be paired with an accompanying notebook. The upcoming Nuwa Pen promises smart notes on any paper. We'll try it as soon as it's available. As of this writing, it's projected to start shipping in October 2024.

The 6 best tablets for handwritten notes in 2024

how amazon kindle scribe became my favorite gadget 2022 2

Finding a good tablet for handwritten notes can be a frustrating task. Tablets are a dime a dozen nowadays, but only a select few are designed specifically for taking notes. Most opt for vibrant screens for streaming movies or try to serve as laptop replacements. That means if you're looking for a spiral notebook replacement, you've got your work cut out for you.

Thankfully, once you know where to look, you'll find plenty of incredible tablets for notetaking. Many of these are custom-built for the task, offering displays that simulate paper as best as possible while also cutting out glare. Most also come with their own pen, allowing you to get as close to "real" notetaking as possible on their digital screen.

Need help sifting through your options? Here's a look at the best tablets for handwritten notes, which includes products from Amazon, Remarkable, Boox, and other traditional tablets that work well for this task. If you're looking for something a bit different than a tablet, be sure to check out the best smart notebooks of 2024 for more great options.

Kindle Scribe

The best tablet for handwritten notes.

  • Slim and lightweight design
  • E-ink screen looks fantastic
  • Tried-and-true Kindle reading
  • Superb writing experience
  • Weeks of battery life
  • Very competitive pricing
  • Few formatting tools for writing
  • Limited Kindle app integration
Specifications
Storage 16GB, 32GB, 64GB
Display 10.2-inches, 300 dpi
Pen included Yes

The Kindle lineup is primarily seen as a premium class of eReaders, but you might consider the Kindle Scribe to be an "eWriter." While it still functions as an eReader, the big draw of the Kindle Scribe is the ability to take notes on the screen with the included Basic Pen, making it easy to jot down your ideas without any fuss.

Not only do you have the option to take down notes on a screen styled after traditional, physical notebooks, but you can even take handwritten notes directly in books or on blank pages. That gives you impressive versatility to write the way you like. Your notes can then be converted to text and shared with contacts via email. If you need to edit your notes, the Scribe lets you use a Lasso tool to cut, copy, paste, or move them.

Other highlights include a variety of brush types (including a fountain pen for calligraphy or a pencil for sketching), the ability to import documents from Microsoft Word, a two-column layout so you can see multiple pages, and a useful Folders and Subfolders feature to help keep everything organized. The device doesn't support cellular networks, is not waterproof, and doesn't support color images, but if you need a tablet that excels at taking notes, the Scribe is hard to beat.

ReMarkable 2

The best premium tablet for handwritten notes.

  • Thin design
  • Realistic writing experience
  • Responsive screen and software
  • Limited storage
  • Doesn't support color images
Specifications
Storage 8GB
Display 103 inches, 226 ppi
Pen included Yes

The ReMarkable 2 is one of the main competitors of the Kindle Scribe, offering a paper-thin display and premium Marker Plus pen that makes taking digital notes feel shockingly natural. Part of what makes the ReMarkable 2 so compelling is its luxurious design, which is just 0.19-inches thick and comes extremely close to simulating a "real" writing experience on paper.

Aside from its cool design, the ReMarkable 2 gets nearly everything else right. This includes a distraction-free design that uses no pop-ups or pesky notifications, a UI that lets you quickly organize all your files, and a pen that comes with a built-in eraser. You can even convert your handwritten notes into typed text. And since the tablet integrates with Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive, you should never have a problem accessing all your files.

As you'd expect, the ReMarkable 2 includes standard features such as the ability to undo your last action, resize objects, or set up layers to better manage your note taking. But one notable drawback is its built-in storage, which caps out at just 8GB. That means you'll want to make use of cloud storage options if you're an avid notetaker. But beyond that caveat, there's little to knock about this remarkable tablet.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S9

The best galaxy tablet for handwritten notes.

  • Vibrant AMOLED display
  • Premium hardware
  • Water and dust resistant
  • Doesn't use an e-ink display
Specifications
Storage 128GB, 256GB, 512GB
Display 11-inches, AMOLED
Pen included Yes

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 isn't built specifically for taking notes. But with an included S Pen and large 11-inch display, it’s a versatile machine that does much more than let you jot down your thoughts. It's also shockingly thin despite all the tech packed inside, clocking in at 0.23-inches thick.

For a full-fledged tablet, that's a pretty tiny footprint. Samsung equipped the Tab S9 with an 11-inch AMOLED display – which is a big departure from the displays on the ReMarkable 2 and Kindle Scribe. That makes this tablet not just great for taking notes, but also watching movies, playing games, or surfing the web. It also means that it's not quite as fun to write on as the other tablets, but for users who want their tablet to pull double duty as an entertainment center, it's nice to have all those other options.

Rounding out the Tab S9 is a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset for blistering fast performance, and option for up to 512GB SSD, and an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. That last feature could make this mighty compelling if you plan to bring it with on vacation, as trying to take notes by the pool with a device lacking waterproofing could be a disaster.

If you want something bigger, you'll find the Tab S9+ and Tab S9 Ultra available with larger displays.

Boox Tab Ultra C Pro

The best android tablet for handwritten notes.

  • Lightweight design
  • Built-in camera
  • Supports black and white and color images
  • Expensive for what it offers
Specifications
Storage 128GB
Display 10.3 inches, 300 ppi
Pen included Yes

It may not be as popular as the Scribe or ReMarkable 2, but the Boox Tab Ultra C Pro is a great Android tablet for handwritten notes. Part of its allure is support for both black and white and color images, while its Android operating system makes it great for diving into third-party apps.

Clocking in at just 450 grams, the Tab Ultra C Pro is light and portable. It boasts a striking exterior chassis, which is largely a matte black and looks both refined and professional. The only object breaking up its smooth exterior is a camera block, which can function as a scanner. And while the touchscreen should be fine for most folks, you'll find an optional keyboard attachment available that turns the tablet into a bonafide laptop replacement.

Taking notes on the Tab Ultra C Pro is similar to most other tablets on this list, as it offers an anti-glare display, a split-screen mode for multitasking, and supports multiple document formats. There's even a microSD card slot if you need extra storage for all your files.

The Android operating system isn't quite as exciting as Windows, but it works well with the Tab Ultra C Pro and turns the device into a multifaceted tablet. Be sure to give it a look if you want something off the beaten path that excels at taking notes but doesn't forgo other conveniences.

Apple iPad Pro

The best mac tablet for handwritten notes.

  • Sleek and modern design
  • Bright, vivid, gorgeous display
  • Wild performance from the M2 chip
  • Apple Pencil hover feature
  • iPadOS 16 is super robust
  • Stage Manager needs more work
  • Lackluster, awkward front camera
  • Prohibitively expensive
Specifications
Storage 256GB to 2TB
Display 12.9 inches, Liquid Retina XDR
Pen included No

Apple is known for making expensive, yet premium, products, and the iPad Pro is no exception. A variety of models are up for grabs, but the 12.9-inch model with support for Wi-Fi and cellular is one of the best available, making it a well-rounded tablet for almost every task.

Unfortunately, the Apple Pencil is not included with the iPad Pro. But if you do pick it up, you'll get a powerful note-taking tool that offers low latency, tilt sensitivity, and a cool feature that lets you double tap to quickly change the writing utensil you're using. And while the iPad Pro doesn't have an e-ink display, its Liquid Retina display is so vibrant and responsive that taking handwritten notes shouldn't be an issue.

This tablet is powered by the M2 chip, resulting in short load times and applications that are quick to respond to your input. You'll also be able to save your files to iCloud for easy access and download various other apps through the popular App Store. The Surface Pro 9 is a nice all-around tablet that works well for handwritten notes. It's primarily designed as a laptop replacement, equipped with high-end hardware that's ideal for businesses, schoolwork, or even some light gaming, but if you add on a Slim Pen (sold separately, unfortunately), you'll have a smooth way to take digital notes.

Inside this model of the Surface Pro 9 you'll find an Intel Core i7 processor, 256GB SSD, and 16GB RAM, making it one of the most powerful tablets on the market. The tablet is built with a 13-inch touchscreen that offers a 2880 x 1920 resolution, along with a slim profile so you can easily lug it around with you to meetings or lectures.

If you plan on taking notes, you'll need to tack on the Slim Pen 2. The unique stylus includes a haptic motor for tactile feedback, registers over 4,000 pressure levels, and gets up to 15 hours of use before needing a recharge. It's unfortunate that it's not bundled with the tablet, but at least it gets you plenty of cool features if you do decide to pick one up.

How we chose the best tablet for handwritten notes

There are a ton of tablets floating around in the market, but not all of them offer a great writing experience. Some are designed to be alternatives to laptops, while others are designed primarily for reading or consuming content. That means you'll need to pay close attention to the product you pick out, as each tablet comes with its own set of advantages and disadvantages. With that in mind, here's how we chose the best tablets for handwritten notes.

Smooth writing experience

Above all else, a tablet for taking notes needs to work as a suitable replacement for pen and paper. Whether you're drawing diagrams, writing out a journal entry, or anything in between, writing on the tablet's screen needs to be an enjoyable experience. Ideally, a pen is included with your purchase – but if it's not, the company should at least offer one as a standalone product. Along with writing, going back and reviewing your notes should be simple, as should erasing sections of your work or deleting entire pages.

In short, taking notes on the tablet should be just as intuitive and second nature as taking notes in a traditional spiral notebook. If not, then you'll want to keep searching.

Easy to read display

A display can make or break a tablet. After all, a tablet is essentially just one big touchscreen display. For this list, we looked for products that offered high-quality resolutions and provided users with a great viewing experience. The list is primairily composed of two types of products – ones that use some sort of "e-ink" display and ones that use a traditional, high-resolution display. For example, the Kindle Scribe uses a black and white display with excellent anti-glare properties, making it great for taking notes. However, the iPad Pro is also solid as a note-taking machine, though it uses a Liquid Retina display that works well for movies or gaming.

Products like the Kindle Scribe are typically better for taking handwritten notes, but users who prefer versatility might enjoy the vibrant display offered by the iPad Pro. Be sure to consider how you're going to use your tablet, and if you're using it for more than just notes, screen quality needs to be a consideration.

Portability

Whether you're bringing your tablet to a conference call, lecture, or the library, a good tablet is lightweight and easy to toss into your backpack. We made sure that all the products on this list are streamlined and won't weigh you down with extra baggage. They're also durable and built to last a long time before needing to be upgraded or replaced. Some also offer additional products such as covers or carrying cases, allowing you to personalize their appearance and make them better withstand demanding travel schedules.

Design quality and additional features

Tablets aren't just for taking notes. And if you're spending hundreds of dollars on one, there's a good chance you'll want it to do more than just serve as a digital pen and paper. While the most important factor we considered on this list was the handwritten note experience, we also looked at what other features were available on the device. This includes things like access to the internet, the ability to download apps, or even the option to use it as a traditional PC.

Overall design quality was also considered, as there's no point shelling out cash for a tablet that'll break down within the year. Every tablet on this list is manufactured by a trusted brand like Microsoft, Amazon, or Apple, ensuring that you're all but guaranteed to get a premium device free of defects.

Operating system

Tablets run on all sorts of operating systems, from custom-built Linux systems to Windows or Android. All of these are perfectly suitable choices for a note-taking tablet, but each works different from the next. Products built with custom operating systems are typically the best for note taking, as they've been optimized for this feature. However, products running Android or Windows might offer better access to other applications, allowing you to branch out beyond taking notes.

Pricing and performance

There are some remarkably expensive tablets available in 2024, and not all of them have earned their price tags. We made sure that all our picks have enough firepower and the performance to back up their price. Of course, that doesn't mean this list is loaded with budget picks. Some products earn their hefty price tags by packing in robust processors, incredible displays, and a smooth writing experience. But the items on this list all give you a good bang for your buck, whether they cost $200 or $2,000.

Accountants tend to have a lot on their shoulders, especially as a lot of folks can rely on them for financial health, which is very important in today's world where the economy isn't at its best. As such, it's important to have the right tools for the job, and while there are a ton of great laptops out there that might work well for accounting, some will excel at it more than others. As such, we've gone out and picked our favorite laptops that can easily handle everything from large and heavy-duty spreadsheets to accounting software. Whether you're a seasoned professional or enjoy drawing as a hobby, investing in a 2-in-1 laptop is a great idea for all sorts of artists. Drawing on a laptop makes it easy to quickly share your creation with others, which is especially useful if you're doing it as a professional–negating the need to upload your pen-and-paper sketch to the computer before sending it to a client. Moreover, working on a laptop lets you undo mistakes, zoom in to better handle small details, and quickly change utensils.

There are a lot of perks to drawing on a 2-in-1 laptop, but not all of them are great for creators. Some have unresponsive displays that can't register all your movements, while others might have a lackluster resolution or color spectrum that turns most images into a muddled mess. Because of that, it can be hard figuring out which laptop is best for your needs. And if you'll be spending a good chunk of change on the laptop, you'll want to make sure you get it right.

If you’re building a PC from scratch, one of the most important things to consider is how your case is going to impact how hot your hardware gets. With how powerful most modern hardware is, the internals of a PC can get very hot, and one of the only ways you can deal with that heat is to pump as much air through your case. Even CPU and GPU radiators work on a similar principle, relying on good airflow over the cooling fins to keep temperatures down as the hardware does its best to turn your PC parts into molten metal.

Of course, there are dozens, if not hundreds, of different kinds of case designs coming from manufacturers, and it can be a bit hard to pick something that fits well for your needs. That’s why we’ve looked between all the best options and picked the best PC cases for airflow in various sizes, from full-tower ATX cases, to tiny Mini-ITX cases as well.

12 Best Gadgets For Writers (Must-Haves)

In this article, I share a list of the best gadgets essential for writers. I used most of them myself, or they’re already waiting in my e-basket, ready to get ordered. I’m always looking for ways that’ll speed up my progress , and  make more money as a freelance writer . That’s because the easy task of putting words on a computer screen (or a piece of paper) is one of the toughest things you’ll ever do. Important note: Here I list items that are useful and functional and that a writer will appreciate in their everyday life. You’ve been warned.

The items listed here will:

Here are the top gadgets for writers:, 1. a writing tablet with a stylus, 2. a prowritingaid subscription.

I would be so lost without this top grammar checker (way better than Grammarly, in my opinion). I’m actually on a premium subscription, but the free version is great too. The app is one of the best investments I’ve ever made to improve my writing . The software is not 100% accurate (yet), but it offers you cool suggestions and helps you clean up your prose in a matter of seconds. It’s super important to have a tool like this because it will save you a ton of your (or your editor’s) time. It’s not only great for regular content but for online communications as well. With it, you’ll never worry that you’ll make a horrible grammar mistake in your email or office chat ever again. If you’re using Google Docs to commit words to the screen, you’ll see that ProWritingAid will give you suggestions for improvement in real time. This is pretty cool, but if you don’t like it, you can switch it on and off and edit it later. Write drunk, edit sober, right? Oh yes, and on the note of cool digital gadgets for writers, please check the Writing Analytics app that can severely boost your writing productivity .

3. Samsers Foldable Bluetooth Keyboard With Stand Holder

4. yunbaoit visual analog time management tool.

You must have heard about the  Pomodoro technique  at least once in your lifetime. You set the timer for a specific amount of time (traditionally 25 minutes), and you work your ass off till you hear the ring. Then you take a 5-minute break and go hammer at it again. You repeat the process and do 5 or 6 sessions, and then take a longer 15-20 minute break. This Yunbaoit timer is perfect for this kind of time-management technique. As writers, we like to procrastinate and do anything to save us from producing another coherent sentence. But here you have a little device you can set for 30-60 minutes and make a contract with yourself. Let’s say you’ll write for 30 minutes, and then you get to check your email and other amazing distractions. The best thing about the device is that it’s tangible and staring you straight in the face. And you don’t have to pick this specific model. It’s also available in other colors, shapes, and sizes. What’s important is the method and the self-discipline to use it. This kind of routine will  improve your productivity  like nothing else.

5. Tzowla Travel Laptop Backpack With a TSA Lock & USB Charging Port

6. cafepress “words matter” natural canvas tote bag.

Why not flaunt your writer status on a day-to-day basis? Tote bags are light as a feather and they make up a practical, yet stylish-looking item in the writer’s arsenal. I especially like this model because it says nothing cheesy and cliche like: “What would life be without books?” No, instead, it’s more low-keyed and simply states: “Words matter”. Plus, there’s this quaint illustration of an old-school typewriter suggesting you’re a sophisticated literatus who knows his or her classics. The bag comes in two different sizes, small and medium, so pick and choose depending on the size of the writer.

7. Rocketbook Erasable, Reusable Wirebound Notebook + Pilot FriXion Retractable Erasable Gel Pens

8. smartpen with real-time note sync for ios and android.

Here’s another amazing piece of technology that will turn a writer into a near-cyborg. It allows you to capture your writing in real-time by using handwriting recognition technology. It also allows you to sketch in color and see your work in real-time on your mobile or tablet screen connected through Bluetooth. Then you can share all your work with one of the popular mobile apps such as Gmail, Facebook, or WhatsApp. The battery is good for 8 hours of continuous writing and the offline storage enables you to save up to 800 pages of notes. And as a bonus, the app that comes with the pen can also translate your notes into 40 different languages. Impressive?

10. cheliz keyboard wrist rest pad and mouse wrist rest support mouse pad.

This gadget is perfect for full-time writer who wants to improve their comfort and make their workspace cozier. Here’s a set of two pads – one for the mouse, and the other for the keyboard. 27 Helpful Tech Accessories And Gadgets For Students, Whether Your Classes Are Online Or In Person

A reusable smart notebook, wireless sleep headphones, and more tech-y things that'll improve student life whether it's at home or on campus.

1. A  Rocketbook Fusion notebook  you can fill with handwritten notes, then blast them into cloud storage (Google Drive, iCloud, etc.) and wipe the pages clean to start over. Not only will you be able to look back on them for your own reference; you'll *also* be able to send notes directly to that friend who skipped class the day before a big exam. (Yeah, they def owe you one.)

reviewer's notes written in the notebook

It has 42 pages, including seven page styles: a task list, weekly planner, monthly calendar, goal template, idea list, dot-grid, and lined pages. It also comes with a Pilot Frixion pen and microfiber cloth.

Promising review: "This is an excellent product. I am a college student, and being able to write all my notes manually helps me retain information over typing them, plus I can add drawings to my notes. So, I put them all in my Fusion and scan them to classroom files on my computer in typed format. From there I can review them or send them to classmates who are always begging for copies of notes . I also use the weekly planners extensively to write down when projects or essays are due and when I have extracurricular events. I use the action plan sheet to quickly outline my essays and projects. The Fusion is lightweight; I can take it anywhere with me easily without having the weight of a computer dragging me down. It's just as durable as a plastic covered notebook, so if you use some caution, you'll be fine with the cover it comes with. Several of my classmates have already switched, and the professor is interested in it for his lecture notes. I would highly recommend the Fusion to anyone with a lot on their plate. Its multi-functionality is awesome. Seriously, go out and get yourself these tools today. You won't regret it." — Jean Gray

Get it from Amazon for $27.59+ (available in two sizes and 11 colors).

2. Wireless sleep headphones  in the form of a comfy headband so you can play white noise (or whatever else helps you catch some Z's) without the discomfort of regular earbuds or earplugs. It'll be a *lifesaver* whether you live in the dorms, a college apartment, or at home, letting you block out the noise of loud neighbors or a roommate who's an early riser while you're trying to rest up for a long day of classes.

A model sleeping with the headphone band around her ears

Promising review : "My college roommate had 8 a.m. classes last semester and very little concept of how much noise they constantly made. My cousin recommended a similar product which helped her deal with HER roommate. I bought these in a desperate attempt to sleep in later and they did the trick! They aren't actually noise canceling, but that is expected at this price point. They get plenty loud and are comfy. I didn't struggle to fall asleep wearing them and they never fell out (though they did mess up my hair a bit as head bands tend to do). They saved me lots of sleep and helped me cope with a difficult situation . My mom borrowed them to try and help her sleep with my dad's snoring, and she wasn't a fan because they didn't actually block the sound. I think the volume of the annoying noise is important and so is personal preference. But overall, I would recommend!" — Wes M.

Get it from Amazon for $19.99  (available in 11 colors).

3. A silicone keyboard  that doesn't just add a cute pop of color to your laptop — it'll also prevent Cheeto dust and Dorito crumbs from getting under your keys during those late-night studying sessions, because it's no fun once certain letters stop working entirely.

Reviewer applying silicone keyboard to laptop

Promising review : "I don't eat over my laptop but somehow it picks up crumbs, dust, etc. during my daily use. Before finding this keyboard cover, I was regularly cleaning my keyboard with canned air. That, however, is a thing of the past. This keyboard cover fits perfectly, sticks so that I don't have to shift it over the keys EVER, and most importantly keeps the keyboard clean. A quick swipe with a cleaning cloth is all it needs, if ever. Love it." — BVES

Get it from Amazon for $6.99  (available in 31 colors).

4. A set of colorful cable protectors  you can place on your charging cables to prevent them from fraying and exposing their wires, especially with how often you're charging your devices for school. These sturdy spirals are flexible enough to pop onto your cables easily but are durable enough to support them through wear and tear — it's a way better solution than having to shell out for an entirely new charger when you're already on a student budget.

four spiral shaped charger protectors, one of which is on a mac charger at the charger point

BuzzFeed Shopping editor  Emma Lord says: "I (begrudgingly!!) got these a few months ago for my Mac charger, because apparently the journey from my bedroom to the living room was just too much for my fragile cord's heart to bear, and it was starting to get worn at the charger end. This spiraled on in less than 10 seconds and has been great in terms of making sure the charger is still flexible and has some give, but isn't bending itself backward and daring me to let it break, either. Also loved how affordable it was compared to a $30 replacement charger. "

Get a four-pack from Amazon for $3.98+ (available in gray or multicolored as well as packs of five).

5. A vibrant wireless keyboard and mouse set  because anything that adds a nice pop of color to your workspace will make sitting down at your desk every day feel a little more bearable. Because it's wireless, it'll be easy to take on the go if you're running around campus, or if your classes are virtual, you'll be able to use this colorful duo at home for all your computer needs.

A reviewer shows the green keyboard and mouse in use

The set includes a wireless keyboard and mouse with a USB receiver for a 2.4GHz connection. Pick up some  AA batteries  — both will need them! And if you use a MacBook and don't already have a USB-C hub , you'll need one of those as well.

Promising reviews: "Great keyboard! Fits really well on my desk and makes online classes wayyy easier . Love the additional accessories for customization as well as cleaning." — Kindle Customer

"So cute! Not gonna lie, this got me through my winter finals in college;  the tapping noises from the keys are so soothing . Works very well, and color scheme is amazing! Planning on buying the yellow one as well. 👀" Samantha

Get it from Amazon for $35.99+ (available in 12 colors).

Pssst... If you're looking for a compact version (i.e. without the numeric keypad), Amazon has that too! Check it out for $35.99 .

6. A portable monitor  to give yourself a second screen for referencing notes, articles, videos, and other content while you work on your laptop. It's less bulky than a full desktop monitor, great for both dorm life or a small home office, and the portable factor means you can take it to the library, local coffee shop, or your parents' house over Thanksgiving break.

reviewer's image of the portable monitor set up next to their laptop

The Lepow Z1-Gamut is a 15.6-inch IPS monitor with a mini HDMI port, a USB-C port, dual speakers, and a higher color gamut (basically, more vivid visuals).

Promising review: "This is a great portable monitor. As a student, I usually have a ton of tabs open on my computer. Having a second screen has been so useful since it allows me to have multiple windows open at once. I can review lectures while I have my notes on the other screen and write research papers on one screen while having articles and sources open on the other screen. It's also great that the screen is portable and doesn't take up a lot of space, so I still have plenty of room on my desk. The picture quality is great, and I like that I can adjust the brightness and adjust settings as needed. I do wish that, instead of a dial/single button on the side to adjust brightness and other screen settings, there were more buttons for each of those settings. This is a minor gripe though. This monitor is awesome — easily one of my best purchases this year for school ." — K Chambers

Get it from Amazon for $229.99  (be sure to clip the coupon for $40 off!).

7. A  Fire HD 10 tablet  because you'll be the smart one in your class who saves BIG on textbooks in the long run by downloading the digital versions instead. Bonus: You don't have to lug around heavy books if you attend in-person classes.

the fire tablet showing a page with text and an image

It has a built-in kickstand for easy viewing and can last 12 hours on a single charge. You can also pair it with a keyboard to use as a laptop for taking notes and working on papers while on the go!

Promising review: "I love this tablet! I got it for my digital textbooks for college. Easy to use, battery life is great, and it’s not so expensive that I’m terrified I’ll accidentally break the tablet. I’m clumsy, so expensive technology is terrifying." — Amazon Customer

Get it from Amazon for $149.99+ (available with or without ads, with 32GB or 64GB of storage, and in four colors).

8. A cool Bluetooth speaker and water bottle combo  so that no matter *where* your studies take you, you'll always have 1) H2O on hand so you can stay on top of your hydration goals, and 2) a way to wirelessly play tunes when you're taking a lunch break with friends, need some study jams, or even want to play some white noise for focusing.

Black and teal Bluetooth water bottles next to smartphone

Promising review: "This product eliminates having to carry around a separate device to project sound (WI-Fi speaker). My wife is always carrying around a water bottle, and a WI-Fi speaker. My wife loved getting this as a gift as our daughter is always asking to listen to tunes when we are out, and when we are out with friends this adds a bit of entertainment for us." — Kev

"I take my speaker everywhere. The sound is awesome. It is loud enough to even leave it in another room. It paired very easily with my iPhone 11. I hid it in a bowl of fruit for ambient sounds at the table. I even sleep with it in my bed playing white noise ." — Memaw

Get it from Uncommon Goods for $40 (available in two colors).

9. A pair of blue-light-blocking glasses  because regardless of whether your classes are in person or virtual, you're spending a ton of time looking at a computer and other devices, which is doing no favors for your eyes. These can help reduce eye strain and fatigue when you're staring at a computer for hours on end, which just means you'll be able to focus more on your lessons and homework.

Reviewer photo showing that the glasses change the color of their computer screen

Electronic devices emit a lot of blue light, which your eyes do a terrible job of blocking. Computer glasses that filter blue light can help reduce the amount of blue light you're exposed to, plus you don't need a prescription to wear them and they work even if you're already wearing contacts.

Promising review: "I work in front of a computer 40+ hours a week and then I go home to do school work online for most of my evening. I started to develop headaches on a daily basis and I couldn’t figure out why and then one day on the radio they were taking about the effects of blue light. I got to thinking and did some research and how it can lead to headaches, etc. I hopped on Amazon to find some glasses and I came across these. I have to say I am shocked, total game changer. The very first day no headaches. I thought to myself OK just a coincidence. Second day no headaches, third day no headaches, and so on and so forth. I am amazed! I will never go without these glasses again! I am so happy with this product. I can focus more and get through my day without taking medicine! Just do it, buy the glasses." — Amy

Get them from Amazon for $7.99+ (available in multiple colors and in packs).

10. A pair of Bose noise-canceling Bluetooth headphones  for zoning out the world while you walk to class or blocking out the sounds of your noisy neighbors while you're trying to listen to your Zoom lecture.

model wearing silver bose headphones

These have 11 levels of ANC (active noise canceling) so you can let in as little or as much noise as you want. They also have a built-in microphone so your audio will sound ~crisp~ to others, and with up to 20 hours of battery life on a single charge, they're more than capable of handling your commute too.

Promising review : "I love these headphones; I use them every single day and they have served me extremely well. I'm a college student and spend a lot of my time studying and listening to music. I live in a dorm and have three other roommates with desks within 5 feet of mine. Sitting and studying at my desk usually means that there is background conversation in the room or others playing music at a decent volume on their speakers. Putting these headphones on completely blocks that out. Turn noise cancellation up to 10 and play music at about 50–70% volume and I can't hear a word of what anyone in the room is saying. The battery life is great; I get the full 20 hours out of it even half a year later. One thing that I found surprisingly convenient is the included aux cord. Odd to purposely use Bluetooth headphones cabled, I know, but it does have its benefits. When traveling you can connect it to on-board entertainment. I love the case; the hidden compartment is nice for housing the cables. I have a fairly large head already and big ears, yet these fit perfectly. That said, the slides on either side that allow adjustability have become noticeably looser. They still work but it just means I have to readjust them to make them tighter about once every hour or two. No problem just a mild annoyance." — Aaron B.

Get them from Amazon for $299 (available in two colors).

11. Or  Apple's AirPods Pro especially if you're already in the Apple ~ecosystem~ — regardless of where your schooling happens, you'll get plenty of use out of a good pair of 'buds, and it's hard to beat the AirPods Pro's combination of features and convenience. With active noise cancellation, spatial audio, three silicone tips for customized fit, and over 24 hours of listening time with the included case, the AirPods Pro give you a *ton* of bang for your buck.

It used to be rare to find these for under $200, but these days they've dropped even further in price, making now as good a time as any to finally bite the bullet and grab a pair — they'll come in clutch for all your studying/virtual lesson needs and beyond.

Promising review : "I’ve had the first generation AirPods since they came out, and decided I desperately needed an upgrade. I use my AirPods 24/7 as a college student, so this was definitely worth it. The Pros are so much more comfortable in my ear and don’t feel like they’re about to fall out anytime soon, which is a nice plus. The sound quality is great and battery life seems good too." — Kerry Ervin

12. An adhesive monitor clip capable of holding your lecture notes at eye level so you can easily reference them while working on an essay on your monitor. It can hold up to 30 sheets at once!

a reviewer photo of the clip extended out to the side of a monitor with a document clip in it

Promising review: "Wish I had bought this years ago. Saves my neck from looking up and down while typing . Bought two for the office computers. Mounts easily. Holds a few pages at a time. Clip holds paper firmly. Easy to open clip. Doesn't feel flimsy like it would fall off. I like that it mounts anywhere on your monitor with a removable Command strip, and comes with two Command strips. Simple and clever contraption. Wish I had invented this." — Hawaii Gal

Get it from Amazon for $10.79 .

13. An electric mug warmer  for when you're studying for hours and sipping on your coffee or tea so slowly, it'd go cold halfway through if not for this handy gadget. With this, your fave caffeinated bevy will stay the perfect temp for hours, even when you temporarily forget about it during a particularly tough homework question.

Tip: Reviewers suggest turning the heat down from high to medium once your drink gets down to about the halfway point so it stays a comfortable temperature!

Promising review : "I'm a current college student, so I spend a lot of time at my desk. I tend to make a cup of coffee to drink while I do my work but I get so preoccupied with what I'm doing, by the time I take a sip of my coffee it's cold. This mug warmer works very well at keeping my coffee warm. I have forgotten to put my mug on the warmer a couple of times and had my coffee get cold. However, I just put the mug on the warmer and get back to work, then by the time I turn back to my coffee it's usually warm again. It's easy to use and fits nicely on my desk. I'm very happy with the product and I would recommend." — Kayla Nyberg

Get it from Amazon for $18.63+ (available in seven colors).

14. A heavy-duty alarm clock  that'll make sure you don't sleep through that 8 a.m. class, whether said class is happening on campus or on a computer screen. Even the heaviest of sleepers will find it impossible to sleep through its 113-decibel wail and flashing lights (they don't call it the Sonic Bomb for nothing) — apologies in advance to any roommates.

The circle-shaped clock

Promising review: "I basically sleep like a dead person, and I've tried EVERYTHING. I was tired (no pun intended) of sleeping through classes, work, and just about everything else, so I decided to give this one a try. I have slats under my mattress, so I had to put the bed shaker under my pillow instead — and I'm glad I did! The bed shaker feature works extremely well. If you're like me and you hit snooze while you're still sleeping without realizing it, YOU NEED THIS. The bed shaker will make you feel like you are falling off a mountain; it's very strong, and you may end up on the floor. Now on to the sound; this is the first alarm clock I have ever purchased that wakes me (and the rest of the neighborhood) up 100% of the time . I work full time on an ambulance, and honestly, I can't decide what's louder, my siren or this alarm clock! The very first time I used it, my neighbor came knocking on my door because it also woke him up. Sorry, Mr. D, but I'm keeping it." — TJ Fox

Get it from Amazon for $34.95+ (available in six colors).

15. An Oxo double-ended laptop cleaning brush for deep-cleaning your laptop, with a microfiber pad on one side to rid your screen of smudges and a soft retractable brush on the other to get in between your keys and remove all those dust and crumbs lurking underneath. Because the machine that's *crucial* to getting your school tasks done deserves a little TLC.

A model's hand using the brush side of the tool to clean their keyboard, with the text

BuzzFeed Shopping editor Katy Herman says, "I have this at my desk in the office (and now at my kitchen table workspace for WFH) and love it! It has a microfiber tip on one side and the WORLD'S SOFTEST retractable bristles on the other. Like, I use this thing more as a fidget toy and for petting the bristles than for cleaning. My laptop is so gross that it's a little past hope, but this has tools have definitely helped make clearing out crumbs and erasing smudges easier and cleaning my computer more fun. It's extra handy for the rest of my desk and swiping away post-lunch debris!"

Get it from Amazon for $11.95 .

16. A slim laptop stand to ~elevate~ your study or virtual schooling setup — it'll bring your laptop closer to eye level, which is better for the ergonomics of your setup, but it'll also ensure your laptop gets proper ventilation so it doesn't overheat. reviewer's laptop lifted off the counter with the stand

This stand fits any laptop from 10 to 15.6 inches and can be easily disassembled into three parts for easy transportation. It's recommended to pair it with a keyboard and not try to type on the laptop directly when in the stand!

Bonus: You can store textbooks and notebooks underneath it when not in use, kicking your desk organization up a notch too.

Promising review: "Assembled this in about three seconds between taking notes during virtual lecture. It's saving me neck and back during these 8+ hour virtual school days. Beautiful look, all I needed, glad I didn't pay a ton of money for fancy versions when this one looks just fine and performs the simple function of elevating my laptop." — Amazon Customer

Get it from Amazon for $23.77+ (available in nine colors).

17. And a  laptop desk  complete with a built-in mouse pad, cushioned supports above and below for max comfort, *and* phone and tablet holders at the top to give all your devices their place. With this, you'll be a lean, mean, essay-writing machine whether you're at home or in the dorms.

a reviewer image of the lap desk with a mouse and laptop on it

Promising review: "This is my second lap desk. My first one was super small and very uncomfortable. I ended up buying a 15.6-inch laptop and started college online so I was in need of a large and comfortable lap desk that I could use every day for schoolwork. I looked through tons before deciding on this one, and I am so happy that I did! Everything about this desk is high quality. It has a nice leather mousepad, very comfy arm rest, two large slots for your phone/pencils, and plenty of space for my laptop. I use this every day and it was well worth the money; I know this will last me a long time! BEST LAP DESK ON AMAZON, buy it already, you won’t regret it!" — Bre McAlister

18. An Echo Dot , one of Amazon's most popular (and adorable) smart devices. It'll become your best study buddy, letting you play music and podcasts, check the weather, ask it homework questions, and even set routines to have Alexa remind you when to leave (or sign on) for class or wake you up in the mornings.

BuzzFeed editor's Echo Dot 4th Gen in Twilight Blue on work desk

Similar to other Alexa-enabled devices, the 4th Gen Echo Dot responds to voice commands and can be synced with all sorts of apps and programs, from Apple Music and Spotify to Audible and NPR. If you have smart light bulbs , you can turn them on and off remotely using Alexa voice control. Reviewers also like its package notification feature — you'll hear a little sound go off whenever an Amazon package is delivered so you can get up and go grab it from the porch right away. I have the Echo Dot 4th Gen in Twilight Blue on my office desk, and it really does pack a lot of utility into a very small package. I also love that it's super cute + not an eyesore!

Promising reviews: "I don’t have to be the 'bad guy' anymore. Alexa tells my daughter to sign on for her remote learning classes , to do her homework, to scoop the litter box, to get ready to leave, to leave, and more! We set timers, alarms, have multi-room dance parties, turn on and off the lights with our voices. I no longer yell across the house; I just Drop In like an intercom. I LOVE these devices and highly recommend them." — Laura Robinette

Get it from Amazon for $49.99 (available in three colors). For $10 more you can get the version that comes with a clock display !

19. A wireless charging tray  so you can keep your phone, Apple Watch, and AirPods charging next to you while you're attending online classes *or* ensure they're charged when you wake up the mornings and bolt out the door to the lecture hall. Charger with several large plugs in it

Promising review: "These things are amazing. I have one in almost every room of my house . The light is just enough to be able to see at night to use the restroom or navigate the house without turning every light on. I love that the USB ports are built in — no more looking for an adapter. AND the plugs are set far enough apart you can plug some of the bigger things like Google Assistant or large AC adapters and still have plenty of room!!! These are a must-have in a tech or smart home." — SeiranCrow

Get it from Amazon for $17.97+  (available with two USB styles).

21. And a  dual-port USB power brick that'll transform into a portable charger when you need to head to class or go run errands. Low battery? We don't know her.

Anker PowerCore Fusion plugged into wall outlet with two USB charging cables connected

Promising reviews: "At first I was a bit skeptical that a charger like this would really have the power capacity to charge my iPhone 11 and/or my iPad. It made me a believer after the first couple of days of charging on a trip out of the US. It charges our phones very quickly and can charge two iPhone 11s twice before it needs any additional charge. It can power a device while it is plugged into the wall charging itself too! This would be a great gift for anyone that travels frequently or as an emergency charger." — Dewayne R. Blair

" Perfect for keeping the laptop powered up after a long day of lecture. Super fast charge and does not get hot like some others. It's a little big and heavy compared to other wall chargers, but that's to be expected. Overall a great purchase and a must for any student!!!" — Amy

Get it from Amazon for $26.99+ (available in three colors).

22. Or a  USB-C cord bracelet for when you forget your charging cable back in the dorm or just don't feel like getting up from the couch to go find a charger. 23. A white noise machine because it'll help drown out the distracting background noise of roommates, sirens, and loud street conversations when you're trying to focus on studying *or* getting a good night's sleep. It has 24 different sounds to help you relax and focus, and its chic wooden design will match your cute decor.

the wood style sleep sound machine

This gadget has 24 different sounds: seven fan sounds, seven white noise sounds, and 10 classical sounds. You can relax in bed listening to anything from ocean waves to a clock ticking, even if your room faces another building or a busy street.

There is also a sleep timer you can set to 30, 60, or 90 minutes if you want to take short naps or get ready for bed a little earlier. Plug it in, set the timer, and you can *finally* tune out annoying noise. The sound machine also remembers your last timer, sound, and volume settings when you turn it on again.

Promising reviews: "I bought this during quarantine because my husband was working from home taking phone calls while I was also at home trying to go to college classes over Zoom . I bought this and put it between our study spaces. It works great! There are so many different sounds to choose from. I usually use the white noise or the fans. They are digitally recorded sounds but they sound really good and I can't tell if they loop." — Pyxidis

"Does its job! I use it for my college dorm-style apartment and it helps drown out my three suitemates, closing and opening of doors, people outside, etc. " — Lexi

Get it from Amazon for $35.97  (be sure to clip the coupon to save 10%).

24. A pack of vegan leather cord wraps for keeping your laptop charger, phone cable, and more organized when not in use or in transit, because you definitely don't have time to deal with untangling a cable when class is about to start.

26. A clip-on lamp that'll attach to the side of any desk to light up those late-night study marathons, whether you're cozied up at home or grinding it out at the library. It can clip onto desks, tables, headboards, and even computers so you always have light when you need it, AND you can select warm or cool light depending on your mood.

the clip on lamp on a reviewer's desk with warm light

Promising review: "Perfect addition to my small study desk. I'm a grad student who does most of her studying at night, and I needed a lamp that could provide a bright light while taking up minimal space on my small desk . This lamp serves that function well, and I like that it has multiple intensity settings . My desk surface is smooth, but the clamp grips it very well and holds firm when I make adjustments to the neck positioning. I have had it for over two weeks, and I'm a happy customer." — Doctor Bird

Get it from Amazon for $17.99+  (available in three colors) — be sure to clip the coupon for 5% off.

Promising review: " This is one of those things I didn't realize I needed until I saw it. My phone used to lie flat next to my laptop and I was always looking away to check messages. Now it's tucked nice and upright next to my laptop screen. Never realized what a hassle it was to keep looking away at my phone! Nice setup for FaceTime calls as well. You can talk away while still be working on the laptop. Material feels nice and soft." — Annabelle

These are the best gadgets for writers that make writing a breeze.

As a freelance writer and solopreneur, I’m always looking for the right tools that make running my business easy. Writing for a living may seem easy to some, but in reality, it’s not always easy with writer’s block, distractions, and other issues.

The right gadgets can become a team to which you can outsource tasks and help you get more done.

Luckily, as technology advances, so do the apps, programs, and software that will increase productivity , beat writer’s block, and more.

This post with the best gadgets for writers makes the perfect gift list to give your family and friends present ideas throughout the year.

17 Top Tech Gadgets and Tools Every Writer Can Use

homework writing gadgets

1. Writer’s Blocks Software

Writer’s Blocks is a unique book-writing software that helps you start and finish your project. It’s easy to use with no steep learning curve.

Writing for hours with this software is fun, and you can use it for any size writing project, from short stories to novels. In it, you create blocks that act as separate word processor documents that can be organized into 100 columns.

It’s the ultimate story-writing software to take your writing to the next level.

2. Grammarly

Grammarly is one of my favorite tools to use as a professional writer. It automatically proofreads your writing and checks for grammatical or spelling errors. The free version is great, but Grammarly Premium will take your writing to the next level by:

  • Checking your work for passive voice
  • Showing you how to rewrite sections for clarity
  • Checking for plagiarism
  • Checking for inconsistencies like punctuation, spacing, or wording
  • Finding unclear antecedents
  • Suggesting synonyms

And much more. It ensures that all client work is error-free and professional, which is critical for your long-term success if you want to get testimonials and new clients by word of mouth. If you would like to learn a little more about Grammarly, read this review of Grammarly Premium I wrote.

ProWritingAid is another grammar and spelling checker used by writers and authors. I have never personally used it, but many people swear by it too.

homework writing gadgets

3. Miracle Cube Timer

The cute timer works off a principle similar to the Pomodoro Technique, where you work in brief time blocks to increase productivity. The Pomodoro technique uses 25-minute intervals to help you remain focused and more productive.

It’s perfect for kids or adults and has preset time intervals of 5, 10, 15, 30, and 60-minute intervals. What’s neat about the Miracle Cube Timer is that it requires no programming. All you do is flip the minute up to start the countdown.

It’s perfect for people who:

  • Often work past the point of productivity .
  • Find minor distractions make them unproductive
  • Enjoy making a game out of goal setting
  • Are way over-optimistic about how much they can get done each day
  • Have a lot of work that has no specific time limit to complete

4. Rocketbook Erasable Wirebound Notebook

If you don’t know what a smart notebook is, the Rocketbook Erasable Wirebound Notebook takes your note-taking to a whole new level. If you’re familiar with erasable pens (I’ve been using Pilot FriXion pens), this notebook is the perfect partner.

The Rocketbook Smart Notebook is made of special material that allows you to write in it with an erasable pen and then erase it with a moist cloth. This means the notebook is reusable for a long time.

What makes it even better is that it comes with an app that lets you scan your written pages once you’ve taken notes and upload them to a cloud app like Evernote , Google Drive, or something similar.

Pro Tip – I’m not sure if it happens with the pages in the Rocketbook, but if you use Pilot FriXion pens with a regular notebook and find the writing disappears, all you need to do is stick it in the freezer to get your notes back. The heat makes the ink disappear.

5. Scrivener 3

I love Scrivener writing software and have started using it to write and plan my novel. It can be overwhelming, to begin with, but many writers love and use this software .

I love it so much because it helps you organize your writing, develop characters and plots, and so much more – all the essential parts of the writing process . Track your word count and progress, store your research and notes with your writing, and export it into different formats.

You can use it on your Mac or Windows laptop or computer, so it’s accessible to almost anyone. Plus, you get a 30-day free trial, which is different from most software. Most trials give you 30 days, but Scrivener gives you 30 days of actual use before you need to upgrade.

And you’ll find Scrivener 3 is a reasonably priced writing software that has many features others don’t. It’s quite the comprehensive writing software many authors love.

6. Smart Pen Camera, Voice Recorder, and Stylus

Your note-taking just got leveled up with the Livescribe Smart Pen if you like taking handwritten notes the traditional way instead of using a tablet. I have to say my mind was blown by this note-taking or writing software, as you can capture your handwriting and turn it into digital text.

It is kind of like touchscreen monitors that allow you to navigate and touch your computer screen like a mobile device; this is brilliant.

Plus, the Livescribe Pen can record audio and link it to your text. Simply replay the audio by tapping on your notes and save and easily organize your digital notes with the playback on your Windows or Mac computer or iOS or Android device.

Little known fact, did you know that taking handwritten notes helps you remember things better? Get this pen and level up your old school note-taking.

7. Noise-Canceling Headphones

You can never go wrong with a good pair of noise-canceling headphones for most online business owners. Anyone who works from home often with family in the house knows the value of a good set of affordable headphones.

They’re perfect for writers who need to interview sources on Skype or Zoom and for use with a laptop or desktop computer. Or even if you want to listen to music while you write.

If you need to block out background noise, noise-cancelling headphones are essential gadgets for writers.

But there’s no need to break the bank, as a superior set of headphones can cost hundreds of dollars. Features like long battery life , intelligent controls, and bold sound can still be found in more moderately priced options like:

Soundcore by Ankerlife Q30

Plantronics BackBeat GO 810

JBL Live 650BTNC

8. Standing Desk

Of all the writing gadgets on this list, a standing desk might be the most practical as we spend a lot of time at our desks. A standing desk like the affordable Flexispot EC1 allows you to write standing or sitting so you can stretch and not get cramped or have back pain.

It comes in various sizes and colors to match your decor and the measurements of your space. Even the smallest size of this sta n ding desk has room for two monitors, and you can raise it or lower it easily with the electrical lift system.

homework writing gadgets

So, I will admit when eBooks became really popular, I started with a Nook by Barnes and Noble. And I still love my Nook, but the Kindles are very nice too, especially the Kindle Paperwhite .

It has a long battery life of 10 weeks, and the page turns faster than previous models. The pages even look like actual paper in the Paperwhite , and the light allows you to read in the dark in case you don’t want to keep your partner up. A long battery life is an essential feature of Nooks and Kindles.

The screen is durable too. And you can get a bundle with a case and power adapter, so you have everything you need to read more on this device.

homework writing gadgets

10. Wireless Keyboard with Customizable Emoji Keys

Now I thought this wireless keyboard with customizable emoji keys is one of my favorite gadgets writers love. If you’re someone who uses emojis a lot like me (though I am told that is not the cool thing to do now 🤣), then this portable keyboard lets you have your favorite ones at your fingertips.

Another thing that makes it unique is the feel of the mechanical keys as your fingers bounce across them. Plus, they make a noise like a typewriter.

And you can set up the keyboard with three devices and switch between them using the Easy-Switch keys.

The Logitech POP Keys Mechanical Keyboard also comes in a bundle with a mouse pad and a POP mouse.

homework writing gadgets

11. Glowseen LED Light-Tipped Pen

I’m not sure that this pen counts as one of the tech gadgets writers love, but it is definitely helpful for writing down ideas late at night. Of course, we don’t get our best ideas at convenient times, only the worst, like when you’re going to the bathroom late at night.

If you don’t want to wake your partner up, simply use this pen to write your ideas down. Or if you have an article deadline, need to write on a red-eye flight, and don’t want to flick on your lamp.

The Glowseen LED Lighted Pen would make a perfect stocking stuffer for a writer.

homework writing gadgets

12. Samsers Foldable Bluetooth Keyboard

Now, this cool rechargeable ultra-slim portable keyboard is inexpensive and folds up for traveling and business trips. It will fit in any computer case or bag, so you can work wherever you are, which makes it one of the best tech gadgets for writers.

This wireless keyboard is also compatible with iOS or Android tablets, so you write even if you can’t bring your laptop with you or don’t have a lot of space. As a foldable bluetooth keyboard , you can pair it easily with a simple touch of the CONNECT button, and it has an automatic on/off and reconnection design that makes it convenient to use.

If you’re looking for a small wireless keyboard, this Samsers Bluetooth keyboard is one of the best options for bluetooth keyboards out there.

13. Apple MacBook Air

This Apple MacBook is one of the best laptops for writers as it’s one of the thinnest and lightest MacBooks. With 18 hours of battery life, speed, and durability, it’s one of the best tech gadgets for writers. Some of the best features include the following:

  • Apple M1 processor for fast processing and graphics
  • Fast SSD memory
  • It has a fanless design for silent operation.
  • Backlit Magic Keyboard
  • Next-Generation Wi-Fi 6
  • The 13.3-inch screen size is perfect for traveling.

And much more. The backlit keyboard is huge for me as I missed it when mine went out, and a friend replaced it with one that didn’t light up. It’s the simple technology you don’t miss until it’s gone.

This Apple MacBook is an excellent laptop for travel because of its compact size and is perfect for all your writing needs.

14. Click Up

If you’re looking for the ultimate productivity app for writers, then you may love Click Up . It’s one of my favorite useful tools for task management as it’s pretty robust, and you can use it with other software like Asana, Evernote , or Trello.

Click Up has some awesome features and benefits that make it stand out from the rest like:

  • Multiple views – 15+ to be exact
  • Communicate with a team if you need to
  • Real-time reporting
  • Time tracking capabilities
  • It integrates with many other apps
  • The Mobile App
  • 24/7 customers service
  • It’s affordable

It’s also scalable, with hundreds of customizable features for teams or solopreneurs. It has everything you need to boost efficiency, save time, and simplify workflows.

My favorite part of the Click Up technology is the ability to create a customized dashboard.

Click Up makes the perfect tool for managing your writing business.

homework writing gadgets

15. Keurig Coffee Maker

I love my morning coffee, so I can’t live without my Keurig Coffee Maker, and even I don’t have a smart brewer yet (though it’s on my list). I’ve had a Keurig Coffee Maker for at least 15 years and feel like I couldn’t live without it.

The one niche thing about these coffee makers is that many allow you to save money by using your own ground coffee. Plus, there are plenty of other great features the innovative brewer technology offers like:

  • Customize your cup of coffee by size or brew hot over ice
  • Multiple brew sizes
  • You can brew a second cup without waiting for it to reheat
  • Multistream technology that extracts more flavor
  • Simple button controls

The multiple brew size feature is significant for me because I need a different size for my travel mug than the cup I drink at home. The Keurig K-Supreme Smart Brewer is everything you need to make a good cup of joe without going to the coffee shop.

homework writing gadgets

16. reMarkable

This is another smart notebook that is fantastic writing technology everyone needs. reMarkable allows you to draw and write on a screen that feels just like paper.

The screen is easy on the eyes, and the stylus that comes with it makes it a neat gadget for writers. And you can even write and convert it to a digital text file later on, which makes using this tablet convenient.

No other tablet/notebook feels like this making it really unique. reMarkable comes with the tablet, marker, charging cable, and eight market tips.

homework writing gadgets

17. WD 2TB Portable External Hard Drive

Of all the gadgets on this list, the portable external hard drive might be one of the best writing side kicks. If you’ve ever lost part (or all) of a novel or writing project due to power outages or a broken laptop, you know what it’s like to lose hours and hours of work.

This WD Passport External Hardrive lets you back up all your work in case you lose the copy you’re working on when you dump water all over your laptop or another device (oopssy).

As we know textbooks can be a hassle. They are massive and usually overpriced. That’s not the case if you pick up this handy gadget. For one, you can likely download books for excessively cheaper, but now you’ve changed several 500-page+ textbooks into a convenient lightweight tablet.

While Kindles themselves are about half the price of a textbook , the amount of money you’ll save downloading the several semesters-worth of books will be insane. It’s a great bargain.

Portable Hard Drive

The worst feeling than writing a really long essay is losing it somehow due to technology malfunctions or something else. While we should be backing up our computers and laptops in general, having an extra portable hard drive for your documents never hurts.

From here I suggest the WD 2TB My Passport Wireless . Broadly speaking, this portable hard drive has a few perks for any student. For one, it has a massive storage space to load up several years of university projects. Not only that but you can also use this drive to help in a collaborative effort.

For example, say you’re in a small study group and you occasionally pass notes. This drive removes all of that work by serving as a single spot for people to access and transfer information from. This hard drive can wirelessly connect with up to eight other devices.

LED Desk Lamp

Every desk deserves a stylish and practical lamp. Business know this now as there are all kinds of stylish lamps out there to choose from. Out of the many of them I have two suggestions: The Lifx Mini (which I recommended in a previous post) and the UNIFUN Touch Lamp .

Lifx Mini is nice in that it can light up with various colours to help you study. Not only that it can double as a sort of alarm clock by using the lights to help you wake up. It’s also got a nifty app to help you manipulate the light.

UNIFUN works similar to the Lifx Mini in that it has various colours available. It also has various degrees of brightness too. No matter what, you can easily set it to suit the mood. There’s no app to go with it, but if you want a cheaper and simpler lamp, this is a simple choice.

USB Laptop Backpack

Technology is being integrated into our lives more and more. One key indicator of that is looking at our backpacks. These days, most standard backpacks have USB ports to charge devices while you’re on the move.

Again, I’ve mentioned a few backpacks already, however one other one to consider is the Matein USB Laptop Backpack . It’s available in blue, black, and grey. It’s a slim travel backpack, however has ample room and pockets to store textbooks, other gadgets and more. It’s even got an anti-theft pocket in the back.

Smart Notebook

One debate that has been going on for a while now is whether writing by hand or typing is better for jotting notes. No matter which side you’re on with the debate, a good middle ground is by taking notes via a smart notebook.

I’ve mentioned the smart notebook from Rocketbook before and stand by it. If you love writing and want to use technology at the same time this is the best gadget to use. With this smart notebook, you’ll be able to jot notes and have everything you’re writing down be saved on your preferred cloud-service provider.

On top of that, this option is environmentally friendly and is easier to keep organized too.

Heated Travel Mug

It might not save you study time exactly but it’s still a smart choice if you’re the type of student who drinks coffee or tea in the morning. One travel mug I’ll recommend is the Excalibur 16oz Electronic Travel Cup . Here is what’s cool about it:

  • It’ll keep beverages warm for hours thanks to the mug being chargeable via a USB port.
  • With a spill-proof lid, you can tip it over by accident and you won’t spill anything on your clothes or work.
  • It’s insulated nicely so even when it’s not plugged in, it’ll keep your beverage warm for a while.

Ethernet Cable

College dorms are convenient in some cases but not all the time. Take for example the WiFi capabilities. Sure, the dorms have access to it. But you’ll likely have hundreds of students accessing it all at once making it tricky to do any research or general browsing.

This is where an ethernet cable comes in handy. If you know where the router is located, you can easily hook a cable up and plug the cable into your computer directly.

One cable I’d recommend is the Cat 6 Ethernet cable made by Jadaol. By picking this up, you’re getting 50 feet of cable plus a pack of cable clips. Not only will you have ample cord to work with, but you can keep it organized and out of the way of other students.

Headphones today are valuable tools for work. For one, studies have shown that listening to music does make studying easier . Those benefits amplify when you have headphones on.

Now you could go with wired headphones, but wireless headphones have also made some leaps and bounds too. Take the Mpow H5 Headphones . These wireless headphones have noise-cancelling capabilities as well as comfort. Not only can you feel comfortable with these on, but you can block out all kinds of distractions and immerse yourself in work.

Surge Protector

With all these gadgets, the last thing you want to deal with is blowing a fuse by having too many gadgets plugged in at once. To avoid that risk, obviously you want to invest in a power bar, but not some ordinary one.

One recommendation I have is any power bar made by Belkin, specifically the 12-outlet surge protector . Even if you don’t intend to plug 12 gadgets into it, it’s a convenient tool that removes the guesswork. It’s a beast as you can tell by its features:

  • Rotating outlets to make it simple for devices to plug into.
  • Has over 4,000 joules of energy.
  • Has a 6 foot or 8 foot wall-mount to make it easy for any dorm to position this power bar anywhere.

Foldable Keyboard

As prepared as we try to be, sometimes mistakes happen. We forget our laptop or don’t have space in our backpack for it. While most students would panic, if you have a foldable keyboard you can avoid that panic.

Foldable keyboards are incredibly helpful as they are compatible with all majour devices by this point. This ensures that if you need to type something quickly, you can do so via this keyboard and input what you’re type onto your phone or tablet.

Paired with the fact it folds, you can easily pack this into any tight spot. It’s highly efficient.

Before you say fitness gadgets won’t help studying, there is some truth behind maintaining good health helping students with school. While studying is all about absorbing material, we know that sleeping helps with studying even more . After all, we’re not going to absorb anything if we’re not paying attention at all in class due to sleep deprivation.

While not everyone needs a Fitbit, this particular Fitbit is special . It’s special in that it also works as a sleep tracker. This is helpful as it provides information to the users outlining how much sleep they get but also how well they slept.

This can be valuable information since most people – and especially students – don’t always get the best sleep. This devices helps in developing better sleeping habits overall.

Roku Streaming Stick

Student life isn’t all about studying and cramming information. Sometimes the best form of studying is letting the information muddle in your head for a while. As such, I’m sure most students would turn to catching up on their favourite shows or simply watch Youtube videos.

Whatever the case is, instead of watching it on a laptop, you could always stream it to a TV. At least you can thanks to this nifty gadget. The Roku Stream Stick is portable, can connect with any TV and is built to stream hundreds of channels. Go and enjoy yourself. You deserve it.

Laptop Lap Desk

While sitting at a regular desk is nice, some students prefer sitting in their bed. It can be a huge hassle though having your laptop resting on your sheets. Instead, protect yourself and your laptop by getting a lap desk.

One lap desk I recommend is the LapGear home office lap desk . It’s 17.3 inches long giving you ample room to place your laptop, a mouse, and even has a pocket for your phone. It’s a solid lap desk that’ll help with your posture, and avoid dust build up and heat from your computer.

Selfie Stick

Another aspect of college life is selfies with friends. Even if you’re not a photogenic person a selfie stick still has its uses in other instances. Take the selfie stick from Fugetek for example. It extends up to 49 inches in length and is strong enough to support even a DSLR camera. Best of all it’s pretty cheap.

For the student who doesn’t want a laptop or can’t afford one, one solid alternative is a tablet. Tablets today have grown extensively and each large tech company has their own tablets to pick from.

But instead of going out and buying a brand new one, it might be smart to get an older tablet. Here is one article that covers some popular tablets released last year that still are solid choices today.

Helpful Gadgets For Studying

There are all kinds of helpful gadgets to consider that’ll help any student thrive and succeed in school. Consider picking up some of these as a gift for your kid when they head back to school or start digging into their school work this semester.

The best tech gadgets for students

From virtual assistants you can have in your house to robots that can play football, technology has come a long way from Tamagotchi’s and roll down windows…

 width=

As a student, technology can be used to help make your life just that little bit easier. But with so many gadgets on the market, and a limited student budget to work with, what are the best pieces to invest in?

Here’s our guide for the top tech gadgets that every student NEEDS to own...

Smart notebook

Whether it’s better to take notes on a laptop or stay classic and use a notebook is a question can often be hotly debated...

Using laptops for some makes the note taking process a lot quicker, while also making storing and re-finding them much easier.

However, research suggests that longhand note-taking helps you better take in and retain the information long-term (useful come exam time!)

But with a smart notebook – you can get the best of both worlds!  You can combine the best aspects of both writing by hand and taking digital notes. With the smart notebook you have the ability to make handwritten notes just as normal, but digitally store them. After writing your notes you can use an app to take a picture of the page that will then be turned into a digital file that you can store on any device, share and edit/add to online easily at a later date.

The HOMESTEC smart notebook is the most complete out there and has the added benefit of being reusable; after you use the pages and upload your notes online, you can erase what you've written with the pen eraser or a cloth.

This means you only ever need one notebook – meaning you only have to buy it once and you also do your bit to help the environment and reduce waste. Just make sure you remember to digitise the notes first before erasing!

Portable charging pack

If your phone is essential to you then so is a portable charging pack. Phone batteries may be getting better but they still quite often don’t last the whole day. It’s a gutting feeling when you have to walk home from classes with no music because your phone is dead.

A portable charging pack is great to prevent this scenario, you can bring it along with you on the go and use it to keep your phone alive. For the charger to work you often just need a USB cable (most portable chargers now will give you multiple cables).

All you need to do is remember to charge the pack itself!

Noise cancelling headphones

For a student with lots of deadlines, noise cancelling headphones are perfect. When you have an essay to do for the next day, they can help you to drown out the noise surrounding you and focus on your work. Not just that, they're great for everyday use; walking to lectures and trying to relax without being disturbed call for the use of noise cancelling headphones.

Technological advances now mean that noise cancelling headphones are better than ever, the headphones now really will cancel out any distractions around you. With the noise cancelling headphones you'll also find better sound quality in general. This means that you can listen to whatever playlists you wish with no distractions and high-quality sounds.

There’s a huge range of headphones available out there, so what ones you get would depend on your budget. If you spend a bit more money you can get some incredibly complex and scientifically researched designs that will give you the closest you can get to complete noise block out that you can get. If you don’t want spend so much money you can get some cheaper ones that are still great at blocking out noise.

Power strip

Having a power strip in your room makes it incredibly easy to set up and charge all the electronics in you room at the same time.

Your room should be a relaxing place you can head back to after a long day at college or uni – it shouldn’t be a maze of wires. Power strips can be used in your room to organise everything, you can have your TV, games console, reading light, phone charger, laptop charger and even more plugged into one convenient place. Just be careful not to overload them.

The flexible power strips can be put anywhere in the room and can even be placed around chair legs, bed frames or any other obstacles that you may have in your room. You can even get ones that are up to 3metres long so you have complete control over where the wires go.

Laptops are particularly useful to students, they give you the ability to take your work out and about, to download lectures and even to make notes if you find it easier than writing freehand. And it means you can study from the comfort of home – and not have to trek down to the library to use a computer.

Once you have a laptop you should also strive to use it effectively. There’s a lot of applications on a laptop that are great at improving your life. For example, you can create 'to do' lists that can be constantly updated and get your assignments done on Microsoft Office, which is free to students.

Chromebooks are great for students as they have a long battery life, great storage and are cost-effective for a student budget. These laptops also come with a Google Chrome operating system, which is very user-friendly making it much easier to navigate your laptop and use it to your advantage.

Wireless Bluetooth speaker

Obviously as a student, you should try to spend a lot of time on your studies, but you should also make time to socialise. And whether you're just in your room getting some coursework done or relaxing with friends out and about, it's always good to have some music, as long as the person in control of said music know what they’re doing!!

So one piece of tech that is definitely worth investing in is a portable Bluetooth speaker. The best part about portable speaker is (as the name would suggest) you can take it everywhere, so you can always have music with you.

Virtual assistant

Virtual assistants such as Alexa and Google Home Mini are some of the most exciting bits of tech to come out in recent times. Years ago, it would be unthinkable that you can control your music, your lights and more with just your voice. It’s a great bit of tech to take advantage of and use it to improve your lifestyle.

Your own private assistant can make organising your life so much easier. Instead of you trying to remember all your assignments, lectures and possible meetings you can let your virtual assistant organise it all for you, and alert you with reminders to make sure you don’t miss anything important.

With virtual assistants, the most popular is the Amazon Echo, this comes in many forms, there are speakers in lots of sizes so you can choose the one that suits your room the best, or Google also make a range of options.

Heated travel mug

Coffee (or tea) is an essential part of any day at university, dragging yourself out of bed to go to a 9am lecture becomes so much easier with a cup of coffee. This will, however, wear off eventually and if you don’t want to pay heaps at the university Starbucks then you can bring your own. Using a heated travel mug/flask you can have a supply of fresh, hot coffee to enjoy throughout the day.

Travel mugs may seem like a very simple piece of kit but technological advances have made them become so much more. You can now get portable mugs where you have control over the temperature from an app on your phone, this means if you like your beverage particularly hot or a little bit more on the lukewarm side then you can control this.

It also means no wasted single-use coffee cups which helps reduce wastage so you can feel good about your purchase.

The travel mug from Ember gives you all of this ability, it also has a function so that you can change the temperature for when you need even if you don’t have the phone. The battery percentage and temperature are also shown so you can keep an eye on it. This gives you complete control over the temperature of your coffee so you can be as fussy as you want.

With laptops, the experience might not be as top-notch. Nevertheless, Macbooks are popular amongst students because of their compact design and the convenience of portability.

A laptop works wirelessly and comes with a keyboard, built-in speakers, a web camera, and a touchpad in the place of a mouse.

It is a brilliant investment especially if you are staying away from home for educational purposes.

Nowadays every document you own can be saved up as a soft copy in cloud memory or your e-drive connected to your email account.

This helps you take up less physical space with your studying materials. Even so, owning an external hard drive is a smart move if you want to be extra careful about preserving all of your materials.

An external drive allows you to access your documents easily without taking up much of your study space or the internal space on your device.

All you have to do is connect the drive to your laptop or PC. Another attractive feature of an external hard drive is its portability.

Headphones have existed as a wanted product in the market for a long time. One of the new features that have caused a terrific comeback for headphones is its noise cancellation.

As the name suggests, noise-canceling headphones are meant to block out all of the external noise not only while listening to an audio clip but also during recordings or incoming and outgoing calls.

The level of concentration a student can achieve is always considered a virtue that helps them excel in academics.

Noise-cancellation headphones can help them attain that level of undivided attention which is also a requirement for online classes that have become the trend during the pandemic.

Even though many new and cool gadgets have flooded the market, printers shall never run out of fashion. If your subject or the academic course you have enrolled in requires you to get things printed regularly, going to a shop to get it done makes no sense.

Well-known brands like Epson, HP, Brother, Samsung, and Canon have introduced a range of budget printers to the market in recent years.

By purchasing one of these, you would not only save up on your daily expenses but also preserve your precious time. In fact, having a printer at home can come in handy during emergency assignment submissions.

As a student, you might be required to pull all-nighters frequently. Even if that is not the case, staying up late might simply be part of your daily study routine.

In such circumstances, gadgets that can make your life easier are electric kettles and emergency lamps.

Make yourself a cup of coffee or tea if you feel drowsy. You are no longer required to leave your study table to go to the kitchen as long as own an electric kettle.

An emergency table lamp will come in handy if you are sharing your room with a fellow student or living in a dorm.

Kindles will never run out of favor among students as long as academics is about gathering knowledge by reading books. A Kindle is an e-reader manufactured and sold by Amazon.

One can read not only e-books but also e-magazines and other such digital content on this wireless gadget.

Call it a side effect of globalization, but nowadays students are required to keep moving from one location to another during different stages of their education.

As such, a Kindle is an indispensable gadget – it is the alternative to carrying hard copies of bulky books.

Moreover, it comes with cool features like a highlighting tool and sometimes a waterproof body. Dictionaries will be at your disposal while reading if you have them downloaded on your Kindle.

You will not be required to carry a dictionary everywhere you go, as long as carry your books in your Kindle.

Being a student means you will require safe-to-use and convenient gadgets to charge devices like your phone, laptop, tablet, speaker, and so on.

A range of portable chargers has been developed in recent years by reputed companies to make life easier. The concept of clutch batteries or chargers that are the size of a clutch or purse is becoming increasingly popular in this era of digitization.

For students who depend on rigorous online activity as part of their academic curriculum, these allow them to charge their devices wherever they are.

For charging devices iPhones, special external batteries like the Ubio Labs Shadow Series have been developed which are not only easy to carry but also stunning to look at.

Rocketbook is a digital notebook for all those who love to write over typing.

It is a useful and affordable gadget for students who have trouble taking notes on their laptops and need a notebook that can be reused and even used later to add transfer notes digitally.

It’s a popular and efficient product for college students, school students and even working professionals.

Want to protect your expensive laptop then get an anti-theft laptop bag to ensure maximum security for your gadgets as a student.

It is an affordable bag. bag rucksack and helps you protect your precious belongings at school or college from theft.

An external hard drive is a must for every student. It helps you store all your data safely.

If you are a student who uses a lot of storage on your laptop for photos, videos, college projects, or freelance work – this is the right gadget for you. It helps you protect your data from a virus on your laptop or in the event your laptop breaks down.

Hard drives come in different capacities and based on that; the product has different price points.

A laptop tray is a great addition to the list of gadgets students need. It cools down your laptop and ensures your work is not hindered because of an overheating laptop or sudden shutdown because of overuse.

Make you get a laptop tray the size of your laptop.

These trays are portable and let you work on your laptop without any disturbance.

A folding keyboard is great for students who do not have a laptop. You can attach it to your phone or tablet and type away your notes or do-to lists.

It’s lightweight, easy to carry, and connects with your laptop, phone, iPad, or tablet with ease.

It is a great alternative for students who do not have to buy a laptop but need a writing keyword to type their assignments and projects.

The Wi-Fi range extender is a great product for students. The Internet is man’s new best friend and a student’s savior during college.

Good Wi-Fi can help you with your workload. A range extender can cover your entire house or apartment, you do not have to sit in a particular corner to get the best service.

Student hours are long and tiring. You may not always have a battery on your phone or a plug to charge it quickly. That’s when a portable charger comes in handy, you can charge your phone while traveling, during class, or in a car.

It is a must-buy gadget for students and working professionals.

Choosing the correct devices to make your student’s life easier should not be a taxing chore. Make sure to devote time to saving up beforehand for each investment .

Having funds dedicated to such purchases and knowing what you should purchase can make your student’s life not only easier but also fulfilling.

Students can’t resist multitasking, and it’s impairing their memory..

Living rooms, dens, kitchens, even bedrooms: Investigators followed students into the spaces where homework gets done. Pens poised over their “study observation forms,” the observers watched intently as the students—in middle school, high school, and college, 263 in all—opened their books and turned on their computers.

For a quarter of an hour, the investigators from the lab of Larry Rosen, a psychology professor at California State University–Dominguez Hills, marked down once a minute what the students were doing as they studied. A checklist on the form included: reading a book, writing on paper, typing on the computer—and also using email, looking at Facebook, engaging in instant messaging, texting, talking on the phone, watching television, listening to music, surfing the Web. Sitting unobtrusively at the back of the room, the observers counted the number of windows open on the students’ screens and noted whether the students were wearing earbuds.

Although the students had been told at the outset that they should “study something important, including homework, an upcoming examination or project, or reading a book for a course,” it wasn’t long before their attention drifted: Students’ “on-task behavior” started declining around the two-minute mark as they began responding to arriving texts or checking their Facebook feeds. By the time the 15 minutes were up, they had spent only about 65 percent of the observation period actually doing their schoolwork.

“We were amazed at how frequently they multitasked, even though they knew someone was watching,” Rosen says. “It really seems that they could not go for 15 minutes without engaging their devices,” adding, “It was kind of scary, actually.”

Concern about young people’s use of technology is nothing new, of course. But Rosen’s study , published in the May issue of Computers in Human Behavior , is part of a growing body of research focused on a very particular use of technology: media multitasking while learning . Attending to multiple streams of information and entertainment while studying, doing homework, or even sitting in class has become common behavior among young people—so common that many of them rarely write a paper or complete a problem set any other way.

But evidence from psychology, cognitive science, and neuroscience suggests that when students multitask while doing schoolwork, their learning is far spottier and shallower than if the work had their full attention. They understand and remember less, and they have greater difficulty transferring their learning to new contexts. So detrimental is this practice that some researchers are proposing that a new prerequisite for academic and even professional success—the new marshmallow test of self-discipline—is the ability to resist a blinking inbox or a buzzing phone.

The media multitasking habit starts early. In “ Generation M 2 : Media in the Lives of 8- to 18-Year-Olds ,” a survey conducted by the Kaiser Family Foundation and published in 2010, almost a third of those surveyed said that when they were doing homework, “most of the time” they were also watching TV, texting, listening to music, or using some other medium. The lead author of the study was Victoria Rideout, then a vice president at Kaiser and now an independent research and policy consultant. Although the study looked at all aspects of kids’ media use, Rideout told me she was particularly troubled by its findings regarding media multitasking while doing schoolwork.

“This is a concern we should have distinct from worrying about how much kids are online or how much kids are media multitasking overall. It’s multitasking while learning that has the biggest potential downside,” she says. “I don’t care if a kid wants to tweet while she’s watching American Idol , or have music on while he plays a video game. But when students are doing serious work with their minds, they have to have focus.”

For older students, the media multitasking habit extends into the classroom. While most middle and high school students don’t have the opportunity to text, email, and surf the Internet during class, studies show the practice is nearly universal among students in college and professional school. One large survey found that 80 percent of college students admit to texting during class; 15 percent say they send 11 or more texts in a single class period.

During the first meeting of his courses, Rosen makes a practice of calling on a student who is busy with his phone. “I ask him, ‘What was on the slide I just showed to the class?’ The student always pulls a blank,” Rosen reports. “Young people have a wildly inflated idea of how many things they can attend to at once, and this demonstration helps drive the point home: If you’re paying attention to your phone, you’re not paying attention to what’s going on in class.” Other professors have taken a more surreptitious approach, installing electronic spyware or planting human observers to record whether students are taking notes on their laptops or using them for other, unauthorized purposes.

Such steps may seem excessive, even paranoid: After all, isn’t technology increasingly becoming an intentional part of classroom activities and homework assignments? Educators are using social media sites like Facebook and Twitter as well as social sites created just for schools, such as Edmodo, to communicate with students, take class polls, assign homework, and have students collaborate on projects. But researchers are concerned about the use of laptops, tablets, cellphones, and other technology for purposes quite apart from schoolwork. Now that these devices have been admitted into classrooms and study spaces, it has proven difficult to police the line between their approved and illicit uses by students.

In the study involving spyware , for example, two professors of business administration at the University of Vermont found that “students engage in substantial multitasking behavior with their laptops and have non-course-related software applications open and active about 42 percent of the time.” The professors, James Kraushaar and David Novak , obtained students’ permission before installing the monitoring software on their computers—so, as in Rosen’s study, the students were engaging in flagrant multitasking even though they knew their actions were being recorded.

Another study , carried out at St. John’s University in New York, used human observers stationed at the back of the classroom to record the technological activities of law students. The spies reported that 58 percent of second- and third-year law students who had laptops in class were using them for “non-class purposes” more than half the time. (First-year students were far more likely to use their computers for taking notes, although an observer did note one first-year student texting just 17 minutes into her very first class—the beginning of her law school career.)

Texting, emailing, and posting on Facebook and other social media sites are by far the most common digital activities students undertake while learning, according to Rosen. That’s a problem, because these operations are actually quite mentally complex, and they draw on the same mental resources—using language, parsing meaning—demanded by schoolwork.

David Meyer , a psychology professor at the University of Michigan who’s studied the effects of divided attention on learning, takes a firm line on the brain’s ability to multitask: “Under most conditions, the brain simply cannot do two complex tasks at the same time. It can happen only when the two tasks are both very simple and when they don’t compete with each other for the same mental resources. An example would be folding laundry and listening to the weather report on the radio. That’s fine. But listening to a lecture while texting, or doing homework and being on Facebook—each of these tasks is very demanding, and each of them uses the same area of the brain, the prefrontal cortex.”

Young people think they can perform two challenging tasks at once, Meyer acknowledges, but “they are deluded,” he declares. It’s difficult for anyone to properly evaluate how well his or her own mental processes are operating, he points out, because most of these processes are unconscious. And, Meyer adds, “there’s nothing magical about the brains of so-called ‘digital natives’ that keeps them from suffering the inefficiencies of multitasking. They may like to do it, they may even be addicted to it, but there’s no getting around the fact that it’s far better to focus on one task from start to finish.”

Researchers have documented a cascade of negative outcomes that occurs when students multitask while doing schoolwork. First, the assignment takes longer to complete, because of the time spent on distracting activities and because, upon returning to the assignment, the student has to refamiliarize himself with the material.

Second, the mental fatigue caused by repeatedly dropping and picking up a mental thread leads to more mistakes. The cognitive cost of such task-switching is especially high when students alternate between tasks that call for different sets of expressive “rules”—the formal, precise language required for an English essay, for example, and the casual, friendly tone of an email to a friend.

Third, students’ subsequent memory of what they’re working on will be impaired if their attention is divided. Although we often assume that our memories fail at the moment we can’t recall a fact or concept, the failure may actually have occurred earlier, at the time we originally saved, or encoded, the memory. The moment of encoding is what matters most for retention, and dozens of laboratory studies have demonstrated that when our attention is divided during encoding , we remember that piece of information less well—or not at all. As the unlucky student spotlighted by Rosen can attest, we can’t remember something that never really entered our consciousness in the first place. And a study last month showed that students who multitask on laptops in class distract not just themselves but also their peers who see what they’re doing.

Fourth, some research has suggested that when we’re distracted, our brains actually process and store information in different, less useful ways. In a 2006 study in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences , Russell Poldrack of the University of Texas–Austin and two colleagues asked participants to engage in a learning activity on a computer while also carrying out a second task, counting musical tones that sounded while they worked. Study subjects who did both tasks at once appeared to learn just as well as subjects who did the first task by itself. But upon further probing, the former group proved much less adept at extending and extrapolating their new knowledge to novel contexts—a key capacity that psychologists call transfer.

Brain scans taken during Poldrack’s experiment revealed that different regions of the brain were active under the two conditions, indicating that the brain engages in a different form of memory when forced to pay attention to two streams of information at once. The results suggest, the scientists wrote, that “even if distraction does not decrease the overall level of learning, it can result in the acquisition of knowledge that can be applied less flexibly in new situations.”

Finally, researchers are beginning to demonstrate that media multitasking while learning is negatively associated with students’ grades. In Rosen’s study, students who used Facebook during the 15-minute observation period had lower grade-point averages than those who didn’t go on the site. And two recent studies by Reynol Junco , a faculty associate at Harvard’s Berkman Center for Internet & Society , found that texting and using Facebook—in class and while doing homework—were negatively correlated with college students’ GPAs. “Engaging in Facebook use or texting while trying to complete schoolwork may tax students’ capacity for cognitive processing and preclude deeper learning,” write Junco and a co-author. (Of course, it’s also plausible that the texting and Facebooking students are those with less willpower or motivation, and thus likely to have lower GPAs even aside from their use of technology.)

Meyer, of the University of Michigan, worries that the problem goes beyond poor grades. “There’s a definite possibility that we are raising a generation that is learning more shallowly than young people in the past,” he says. “The depth of their processing of information is considerably less, because of all the distractions available to them as they learn.”

Given that these distractions aren’t going away, academic and even professional achievement may depend on the ability to ignore digital temptations while learning—a feat akin to the famous marshmallow test. In a series of experiments conducted more than 40 years ago, psychologist Walter Mischel tempted young children with a marshmallow, telling them they could have two of the treats if they put off eating one right away. Follow-up studies performed years later found that the kids who were better able to delay gratification not only achieved higher grades and test scores but were also more likely to succeed in school and their careers.

Two years ago, Rosen and his colleagues conducted an information-age version of the marshmallow test. College students who participated in the study were asked to watch a 30-minute videotaped lecture, during which some were sent eight text messages while others were sent four or zero text messages. Those who were interrupted more often scored worse on a test of the lecture’s content; more interestingly, those who responded to the experimenters’ texts right away scored significantly worse than those participants who waited to reply until the lecture was over.

This ability to resist the lure of technology can be consciously cultivated, Rosen maintains. He advises students to take “tech breaks” to satisfy their cravings for electronic communication: After they’ve labored on their schoolwork uninterrupted for 15 minutes, they can allow themselves two minutes to text, check websites, and post to their hearts’ content. Then the devices get turned off for another 15 minutes of academics.

Over time, Rosen says, students are able extend their working time to 20, 30, even 45 minutes, as long as they know that an opportunity to get online awaits. “Young people’s technology use is really about quelling anxiety,” he contends. “They don’t want to miss out. They don’t want to be the last person to hear some news, or the ninth person to ‘like’ someone’s post.” Device-checking is a compulsive behavior that must be managed, he says, if young people are to learn and perform at their best.

Rideout, director of the Kaiser study on kids and media use, sees an upside for parents in the new focus on multitasking while learning. “The good thing about this phenomenon is that it’s a relatively discrete behavior that parents actually can do something about,” she says. “It would be hard to enforce a total ban on media multitasking, but parents can draw a line when it comes to homework and studying—telling their kids, ‘This is a time when you will concentrate on just one thing.’ ”

Parents shouldn’t feel like ogres when they do so, she adds. “It’s important to remember that while a lot of kids do media multitask while doing homework, a lot of them don’t. One out of five kids in our study said they ‘never’ engage in other media while doing homework, and another one in five said they do so only ‘a little bit.’ This is not some universal norm that students and parents can’t buck. This is not an unreasonable thing to ask of your kid.”

So here’s the takeaway for parents of Generation M: Stop fretting about how much they’re on Facebook. Don’t harass them about how much they play video games. The digital native boosters are right that this is the social and emotional world in which young people live. Just make sure when they’re doing schoolwork, the cellphones are silent, the video screens are dark, and that every last window is closed but one.

More Information About Writers:

A writer is a person who uses written words in different styles and techniques to communicate ideas. Writers produce different forms of literary art and creative writing such as novels, short stories, books, poetry, plays, screenplays, teleplays, songs, and essays as well as other reports and news articles that may be of interest to the public.

Writers’ texts are published across a range of media. Skilled writers who are able to use language to express ideas well, often contribute significantly to the cultural content of a society.

Writers can produce material across a number of genres, fictional or non-fictional. Other writers use multiple media – for example, graphics or illustration – to enhance the communication of their ideas.

Another recent demand has been created by civil and government readers for the work of non-fictional technical writers, whose skills create understandable, interpretive documents of a practical or scientific kind. Some writers may use images (drawing, painting, graphics) or multimedia to augment their writing. In rare instances, creative writers are able to communicate their ideas via music as well as words.

Writers choose from a range of literary genres to express their ideas. Most writing can be adapted for use in another medium. For example, a writer’s work may be read privately or recited or performed in a play or film.

Satire for example, maybe written as a poem, an essay, a film, a comic play, or a part of journalism. The writer of a letter may include elements of criticism, biography, or journalism.

Poets make maximum use of the language to achieve an emotional and sensory effect as well as a cognitive one. To create these effects, they use rhyme and rhythm and they also apply the properties of words with a range of other techniques such as alliteration and assonance.

A common topic is a love and its vicissitudes. Shakespeare’s best-known love story Romeo and Juliet, for example, written in a variety of poetic forms, has been performed in innumerable theaters and made into at least eight cinematic versions. John Donne is another poet renowned for his love poetry.
