I don’t really remember much of what happened as a child. All I know is that I grew up in a pretty normal household with a mom, dad and an older brother. Not much of the outside world scared me, or even intimidated me. I didn’t even know that there was much of an outside world. Everything I had at home, and around the neighborhood was everything I knew, and that was it. My mom efficiently prepared me for my first day of school in the way she thought to be the best. She would anticipate the day it would come, and assure me that everything was going to be okay. I remember her talking about the games we would play, how I would get to meet other kids my age and that there would be a nice teacher to guide me along my way. It didn’t sound that scary. I mostly liked the idea of getting snacks in the middle and getting to play with new toys, nap time wasn’t really my thing, though; I could always do that at home. There were some things my eager six-year-old self was excited about, but I never understood exactly why I had to go to school. My first day of school, being a big change in my life, is something I will always remember and relate to other dramatic changes which I have gone through. I’m sure that most people can relate to this in a sense that everyone has gone through a significant change in their life, no matter how mundane the event may be.

I wondered what the other kids were like, and why they had to go to school, too. I wondered if they colored, played or did things as well as I did. Probably not. My mom explained to me that I’ll be learning new things, and that I’ll have to go to school five times a week. For me at that age, a week seemed very long. What if I didn’t want to go? What if I just wanted to stay home? I really had mixed emotions about the subject.

After much prepping, the first day of school finally came. I remember getting out of the car and looking up at the structure in front of me. The building had colorful painting on its bricks on the sides, with a bright blue door. My eyes grew bigger, and I didn’t even realize I was holding my breath. All my mixed emotions drained into one at that very moment – fear. I was not sure of exactly what to expect, and I didn’t know anyone in there. How would I call my mom if I wanted something, if I was hungry or if I hurt myself? Suddenly, all of this school business did not seem like such a good idea. I turned to my mom who was holding her hand out to me and smiling. I gave her a worried look, which she caught on to right away. She stepped closer and nudged me towards the door. After she gave me a kiss on the forehead, that was it, she was gone and I was stuck in school, a place I was so unfamiliar with.

The bell rang and I proceeded to walk through the door. I took a big breath and looked around. The room was so bright and colorful and there were so many different artworks posted on the walls. I clearly remember a sea of pinks, yellows, blues and greens. There were pictures of animals, fruits and houses all drawn by other kids decorating the room. I recall there being desks desks with paper and crayons, and there was even a little corner with toys! This calmed me down, and made me feel like it was not as bad as I thought.

I looked at the other kids coming in; I did as they did and left my backpack on a hook near the door, and took a seat in an empty chair closest to me. We were greeted by an older lady; she told us that she was going to be our teacher. She started us off by calling us from a list one by one; to make sure we were all there. I also remember having name tags of some sort, I think we kept those on even a week after school started. At that time, I didn’t get why, I already knew my name after all.

We learned some songs, played a lot of games and because we all did what we were told, we got some time to play with the toys in the corner of the room. Next thing I know, we were given snacks. We then got to play outside on the playground. Because of all the playing, we got tired pretty soon, and they let us sleep. After a bit more games, another bell rang and the teacher told us it was time to go home. The day seemed really long since we did so much, but none of it was boring.

As soon as I grabbed my bag and stepped outside the door, I saw my mom waiting for on the side walk. I ran to her, and clearly remember feeling like I haven’t seen her in such a long time. During the car ride back home, I talked tirelessly about how the day went and all the new things I did, and how the other children were just like me, and most of them like the same things I liked. I asked her when I’ll go back, and I just got excited when she told me when I wake up in the morning, I’ll be going again.

I don’t remember ever feeling that anxious and excited all at once, all my expectations about school were mostly wrong. According to most researchers specializing in childhood psychology, children do tend to have very unrealistic expectations about their first day of school (Kendrick).

I had a pretty average childhood before kindergarten; I guess all my fears about changing my environment just came up because I was not sure of what to expect leaving the comforts of my home. This was the first significant time in which I realized that there is a bigger world out there, and there are so many things to learn, people to meet and things to do. I felt so grown-up at that time, being able to go somewhere where I didn’t need my parents, it was all just me, no help. I guess that this first day of kindergarten is much like all the other first days of school – like the first day of middle school, high school and even college. I built myself up with all these ideas, and you get all worked up about them, but once you’re there and you get the flow of how things are done, it becomes easier. When there is an event in your life, no matter how mundane or usual it may seem, it can change how you view things. Looking back at my first day of kindergarten and evaluating my thoughts as compared to what actually happened, I can say that I got overwhelmed more with the idea of kindergarten more than anything. Once you get over those negative thoughts in your head, you realize that it’s not that bad. You just have to rise above your thoughts and your fears. My first day of kindergarten will always be that event I’ll remember which changed how I saw things in life.

My father has a government job which requires him to shift a lot. Even though we stayed in the same place, my father moved from one place to another. After being in the same school for 8 years, my father finally got a permanent posting.

This meant that we had to move to a new city and join a new school. I was very nervous to move to a new city and even more to join a new school. My present school has all my friends whom I cannot stay apart from.

My teacher sang for us, played music for us, acted the clown for us but we just cried. In the end she started crying and then one by one we stopped crying. I went over to my teacher and told her not to cry. Then my teacher stopped crying and we did whatever she told us to do. We loved her because she was just like us.

At 4 o’clock, the last bell rang. I made for home along with my village fellows. I told everything to my mother. I wept but she consoled me and advised me to bear it all. My fears were not dispelled. But there was no way out of it. I must go to school and face the teacher’s rod.

School is regarded as a temple of learning. It is also considered as a training institution for future good citizens. Unfortunately, not all children are lucky to go to school. A school is a training ground for the child. The child builds new relations, meets boys and girls of different natures and forms new thoughts and habits. A right kind of school is of great importance because a school prepares the child for taking up different challenges in life.

My parents had enrolled me in a local school at the age of five. The memory of my first day in school is still fresh in my mind. It was a big school. It had six floors. There were thirty classes in my school. In all, there were thirty-three teachers and four sirs. There was a separate room for the principal. He was very strict person. The school had a compound where we played during thirty minutes recess. There was a big ground behind the school. However, we were not allowed to go there. One day my parents took me to the Principal’s room and got me admitted in the school. I was very afraid seeing big white beard of the Principal. He asked me my name, my age and some other small questions. I answered them nervously. Later after having some talks with my parents, he gave me a small packet of candies and asked me to distribute them among my classmates after school reopened next month.

In next twenty days, school reopened. As it was my very first day, I went crying to the school. I felt very bad leaving my parents. I entered the class and sat on the first bench. My class teacher entered in the class. She seemed very kind. She treated me very well. In the beginning, I felt a bit nervous in the new atmosphere. Children looked at me surprisingly and smiled. May be because I was little fat and tall than them. That day I got my first lesson in English alphabets and Maths digits.

The bell for recess rang. Children rushed out of the classroom. Some of them gathered around me as if they were watching some strange creature. They started laughing at me and made fun of me. I felt very bad. However, a few children felt sad for the trouble caused to me by other children in the class. Some came forward to support me. This was something very new for me. The final bell rangat two o’clock in the afternoon. All the children were overjoyed. Even I was happy that the first day got ended. I picked up my bag and water bottle and hurried back to my home.

It is very important that every child, rich or poor, goes to school because it is in a school that we learn many important things. We are taught how to behave with others and how to live a better life.

I study at St Martin’s High School, Civil Lines, Lucknow. The school has four buildings. My class de four b is in the building for primary children. The beautiful garden, the grassy lawn and the Ashoka trees along the pathways make the school a beautiful sight.

Besides the beautiful buildings, my school also has a basketball court, a huge field for outdoor games, a swimming pool and a canteen where fresh food is cooked everyday.

Our school takes part in inter-school hockey, football and cricket tournaments, as also in debates and elocution contests. Our school has won many trophies, especially for debates and football.

Every year, our senior students from Class X and XII secure very good results and our school is on the merit list every year.

The principal of our school is a great scholar and our teachers are highly qualified and well trained, so we students get a good foundation in our studies. I am certainly very proud to belong to a school like this.

College is dreamland of every student’s educational career. It is a beautiful period of learning, enjoyment, freedom and friendship. Sweet memories of college life are simply amazing. They have an everlasting impact on human memory.

At last the result of matriculation examination was declared and I came out with flying colors. After I passed my school examination with good grades, many excited and heated discussions took place on the choice of subjects and college. I decided to take admission in Government College which was the biggest college of my city. I had heard a lot of stories about college life from my elder sibling and relatives. According to them college is not as strict as school. I was full of excitement, inner joy and high hopes for a promising future. I thought college life would be full of pleasures and of course it was. College life is not as strict as the school life.

On the very first day, I got up early in the morning as I was much excited for the college life. I offered Dawn Prayer and took a hearty bath and got ready for the college. I could even do breakfast because of excitement. As soon as I stepped into the college, I felt like I have entered a new world. It was indeed a completely new world for me. The college had a wonderful building, lovely playgrounds and devoted Professors. The grand traditions, good mannerism, and liberal atmosphere made a great difference to my life. My first-day entry in college always fascinates me. My first day was an unforgettable experience of my educational life.

5. My impressions of the first day at college are still fresh in my memory. It seems impossible to erase those Sweet memories.

On first September, I got up early in the morning, took bath and said my prayers. Meanwhile, my mother prepared breakfast for me. I hurriedly took my breakfast and went to college by bus. As soon as I stepped into the college, I felt like I have entered a new world. It was indeed a completely new world for me. The college had a wonderful building, lovely playgrounds and devoted Professors. The grand traditions, good mannerism, and liberal atmosphere made a great difference to my life. My first-day entry in college always fascinates me. When I reached the gate of the college, some senior students of the college were standing there. Some of them where in a jolly mood and wanted to befool the new-comers. They had worked out their own plans to make the new-comers indulge in strange actions. However, we decided to act together to avoid their practical jokes. Some of the senior were approaching us with an air of superiority. They were large in number so they made us subdue immediately. They asked us to do strange things like singing ridiculous songs and doing monkey pranks. The sense of self- respect did not allow me to act according to their wishes. Still they forced me to obey their orders. I felt a little humiliated but took it sportingly.

Meanwhile, a senior Professor of the college came to our rescue. He asked the boys to assemble in the hall were the Principal would address them. We want to the hall. The Principal addressed the students and advised them not to take part in politics at college. They should pay full attention to their studies and try their best to achieve their goal. Afterwards, a Professor guided us about our time-table and class rooms.

Our first period was of English. We want to the classroom and set on the benches. A Professor entered the room, the boys stood up greet him. He took our roll-call and entered the names of the students in his attitude register. He did not teach us but advised us about our future life. He stressed what we should not misuse the liberty here rather we should keep full use of the opportunity to achieve our end. Afterwards, we moved another room where our teacher in Arabic came. He delivered his lecture on the importance of Arabic language and advised us to come to the class with our books. Then there was no other period on that day. So, we want to the library and read some newspapers. We discussed the lecture of our teacher and decided to work very hard from the beginning to get through the examinations getting very good marks. Then we left the library, shook hands with one another and departed. I took a bus and reached my home. I found a considerable between the school life and that of college. I concluded that liberty or freedom must not be misused at all.

At the end of the first day, I returned home. When I was returning home, all the memories of my first day at College came to my mind. It was like a film. It had fun and fear. I remembered all the happenings and reached home with a smile. I had entered the college to gain knowledge and wisdom and to become a good citizen. Thanks, Almighty Allah I got what I wished. I wrote my memories in a special notebook.

In the end, I can say that college life is a beautiful blend of joys and memories. Right from my first day, every day spent in College was full of colorful events. Surely, College life is an ideal part of student life.
