SHS Work Immersion Portfolio Page 3 WORK IMMERSION Grade: 12 No. of Hours: 80 hours Pre-requisite: Should have taken at least 4 Specialized Subjects Course Description: Work Immersion is one of the course requirements for graduation. A Senior High School student has to undergo Work Immersion in an industry that directly relates to the student’s postsecondary goal. Through Work Immersion, the students are exposed to and become familiar with work-related environment related to their field of specialization to enhance their competence. Specifically, the students are able to: (i) gain relevant and practical industrial skills under the guidance of industry experts and workers; (ii) appreciate the importance and application of the principles and theories taught in school; (iii) enhance their technical knowledge and skills; (iv) enrich their skills in communications and human relations; (v) develop good working habits, attitudes, appreciation, and respect for work. These prepare them to meet the needs and challenges of employment or higher education after graduation. Duties and Responsibilities of the Learner In this course, the learners are expected to: 1. Attend Pre and Post Immersion Activities; 2. Report to the Work Immersion Partner Institution Supervisor during actual immersion; 3. Perform the duties and tasks as indicated in the prescribed template for work immersion list of tasks/activities; and 4. Prepare the documentations and reports required in the curriculum and by the Partner Institution. Portfolio Entries during Work Immersion

This section of portfolio entries includes all the works and my reflections towards my work immersion journey.

It was difficult for me to write my example resume at first. I had the thought bearing in my head that I not only had to put myself in a single piece of paper but I also had to make it sound impressive. After a lengthy time of consideration, I am glad to have completed my resume. It takes a long time to realize what you've achieved, and it was only then that I realized I'd been productive. I may not have made any significant changes, such as becoming student body president, but I feel my high school experience provided me with sufficient information. I realize how far I've come when I consider all of my accomplishments and abilities. I felt like I was finally getting to know who I was.

This has been my first official letter made aside from the dozens of excuse letters I composed while in school. This was different. More professional and you feel way worse if rejected. Job Interview

At the end of a job interview, I can finally breathe a sigh of relief. Surprisingly I was able to answer the interview questions well with little to no stutter to which I was worried for. Hopefully I will get better with this in the future.

Company Rules and Regulations

After reading the staff rules and regulations, this job has felt more real than ever. I realized that this was it and I was actually going to experience real life work for two weeks. I made sure to study the company policy well in order to avoid any mistakes. I made sure I behaved well and followed the rules and regulations. I was able to be polite and courteous to my seniors and colleagues. More so I wore the proper attire and was always on time

Work Immersion Task/ Activities

Having to attend a job without having the slightest idea of what it does could be quite difficult. However, once you are well-oriented it could become slightly easier and less worrisome. I was able to help the faculty in doing computer related tasks such as organizing their files and creating word and excel files. Moreover, I also helped in devising lesson plans and made sure the work of every professor was made easy.

Daily Time Record

Arriving on time to work every day indicates devotion and concern for your coworkers and the firm that employs you. The capacity to develop strong and effective professional connections with your boss and peers is one of the advantages of being prompt. Being on time allows you to maintain your cool, calm, and collected demeanor, and it shows the other person that you value their time. Arriving early gives you a few additional minutes to prepare for the day ahead.

Work Immersion is one of the course requirements for graduation. A Senior High School student has to undergo Work Immersion in an industry that directly relates to the student’s postsecondary goal. Through Work Immersion, the students are exposed to and become familiar with work-related environment related to their field of specialization to enhance their competence.

Final Impact Evaluation Report, October 2014 Covering the total period of the project from July 2011 until June 2014 (including the six-month extension period between December 2013 and June 2014). This report is the final impact evaluation of iMeedan Checkdesk: Sorting, Translating & Disseminating Citizen Reporting in the Arab Region, a project lead by Meedan (NGO, USA) in partnership with UK-based Birmingham Centre for Media & Cultural Research (BCMCR, Birmingham City University) and funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA). This report covers the overall period of the project from June 2011 until June 2014, including the extension period between December 2013 and June 2014. Throughout this three year project, Meedan and BCMCR partnered with six Arab media outlets in Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Jordan and Palestine with the aim of improving the reporting skills of journalists and transparency advocates focusing on issues related to democracy, governance and human rights in the MENA region. This report summarizes the work undertaken since 2011 (phases I & II) as Meedan and its partners prepare to launch phase III of the project, an achievement made possible by SIDA’s recent approval for 30-months of follow-on funding to expand Checkdesk’s community in the Arab world. While this assessment report looks at the overall period of the project to answer Sida’s reporting guidelines, we see it as an opportunity for the Meedan and BCMCR teams to reflect on the past three years of work, and to apply these learnings to improve our project moving forwards. Therefore, this report is also the result of an internal impact assessment process during which we focused on understanding the main challenges we faced working with media activists in conflict and post-revolution countries and best mitigation strategies.

The TOEIC test is used on a worldwide scale as a measurement of English language ability and comprehension. The TOEIC is a multiple-choice instrument designed to measure an examinee’s receptive English skills and is increasingly being considered a reasonable predictor of these skills (Gilfert, 1996). Preparation for the test itself can be arduous, stressful, and if not conducted properly, unproductive. One focal obstacle toward successful training is that of student motivation. Learners may recognize the magnitude of the test, but studying for the TOEIC may draw forth feelings of boredom over the tedium of the whole affair. Alternative techniques to traditional study methods need to be established to maintain interest and obtain higher achievement score results. The design and implementation herein of self-constructed tests with the use of online resources has shown positive results in this matter.
