Over the last few years, Facebook has joined the ranks of Yelp and Google as one of the most important resources for local businesses .

In fact, an increasing number of potential customers look at Facebook recommendations prior to considering reviews from Yelp, TripAdvisor, and other traditional review websites. Facebook was second only to Google in some of the most recent surveys of customer online recommendation engagement .

For this reason, it has become increasingly essential that local businesses take their Facebook presence seriously.

In 2019, Facebook changed its rating system from a star-based system (similar to Google) to a recommendation system . In this system, people can either recommend a business or not, similar to Facebook’s famous “like” system.

Because of this, you should consider “reviews” and “recommendations” synonymous on Facebook.

In this guide, we will show you how to create a Facebook business page, how to turn on Facebook recommendations, and how to monitor and respond to these recommendations in a way that will improve your online reputation and ensure that you are using Facebook in the most effective and beneficial way possible.

Creating a Facebook Business Page

The first step to boosting your business’s online presence through Facebook is, of course, creating a Facebook page. In order to create a Facebook business page, you must have a personal Facebook account through which the business page can be managed. Assuming that you already have a personal Facebook account, creating your business page is simple enough.

There are two ways to go about it.

Option 1 : Creating your Business Page from the Facebook landing page .

If you’ve ever looked closely at the Facebook home page, you’ll notice that there is a small link at the bottom of the page that says, “Create a page for a celebrity, band, or business.”

Click on that link to get started.

After clicking that link, you’ll be taken to a page where you can choose which type of page to create. Click on the “Get Started” button under the “Business or Brand” category.

At this point, Facebook will prompt you to log in to your personal account.

After you enter your email address and password you can get started building your business page. 

The first information you need to provide is the name of your Business Page and its category. Facebook has a wide variety of categories available, including some as specific as “Smoothie Bar” or “Raw Food Restaurant.”

Once you select the proper category, your page will be created and you can move onto customization.

Option 2: Creating your page from the dashboard of your personal Facebook account .

If you’re already logged into your personal Facebook account, you can also access the page creation menu from the regular Facebook dashboard.

There should be a button that says “Create” in the top menu bar to the right of your profile picture.

Click on that button and a dropdown menu will appear. 

The first option in that dropdown menu is “Page.”

Click on that button and it will take you directly to the Page creation screen. Once you are there, click on the “Business or Brand” option and give your page a name and category.

Your new Business Page will be created and ready to customize!

Customizing your Business Page and Allowing Recommendations

Once your page is created, the first thing you should do is upload a profile picture and cover photo for your business. Facebook recommends a profile picture of 170x170 px and a cover photo of 820x312 px.

Many businesses choose to display their logo here, but the choice is ultimately up to you. 

After your profile picture and cover photo are selected, you should write a short description for your business and perhaps an introductory post.

Customizing your Business Page and Allowing Recommendations

Facebook is engineered to walk you through these steps with an easy-to-follow tutorial throughout the page creation process. 

Once all the details are in place, it is important to ensure that your page is accepting Facebook recommendations. This should be the default option for most pages, but it is always good to check and ensure that your customers can give you feedback and boost your online reputation. To enable Facebook recommendations, click on the “Settings” tab in your page dashboard.

Once you are in Settings, click on the “Templates and Tabs” section on the left-hand side of the page.

The “Templates and Tabs” section allows you to add and remove the different sections on the left-hand menu that your guests see when they visit your Facebook page, such as “Events”, “Photos”, and “Offers”.

Make sure that “Reviews” is listed as an available tab. It appears that Facebook still uses the term “Reviews” for the recommendations tab on your page. When setting up your account if you are presented with the option to show a “Recommendations” tab, select that. The effect will be the same.

If it’s not, switching your Template to “Business” should automatically add “Reviews” as an option. You can also add “Reviews” yourself using the “Add a Tab” button at the bottom of the screen.

The three horizontal bars at the edge of each tab allow you to sort the menu.

If you’d like, you can move “Reviews” up to either the top or near the top so that your customers always see it when they go to your Facebook page. 

Facebook Recommendations

With recommendations enabled and your Facebook business page personalized and ready to go, you should be ready to receive customer feedback and recommendations.

In this next section, we will talk about what those reviews look like as they come in and how to maximize your Facebook recommendations to improve your online reputation, attract new customers, get more reviews and keep your existing customers coming back.

Your Facebook Star Rating

As we mentioned in the introduction, in 2019 Facebook changed their rating system from a “reviews” style system to a “recommendations” system.

Facebook also added other features to the recommendation system, including the ability to tag recommendations and add photos to recommendations to give them more context.

Despite the fact that customers are not actually assigning individual star ratings anymore, Facebook will still calculate an overall star rating for your business based on the average number of people who recommend your business.

This rating will appear directly above the number of “likes” that you have, on the right-side of the page.

You must receive a certain number of recommendations before Facebook will calculate an overall star rating, although the exact number of recommendations that you need has never been explicitly revealed by Facebook.

Individual recommendations will come directly into your notifications as they are received, but they are also accessible by clicking on the box that includes your overall star rating.

Once you are on the review screen, you can sort your various recommendations either by “most helpful” or “most recent” to see what your customers are saying about your business.

The “most helpful” determination is based on the amount of feedback other customers gave to the review, most notably based on how many “likes” each review received.

Your customers can access the page that lists all your public recommendations in the same manner, by clicking on the overall rating on the right-hand side of your page. When they do so, Facebook will automatically display recommendations from their Facebook friends and colleagues first, if any exist.

Certain reviews may not be visible to everyone, as Facebook’s privacy settings allow customers to choose who is able to see their posts. For example, they can allow the Public to see their review, or only their Facebook friends.

We will touch on this again later on.

When recommendations come in, they will say either that a customer “recommends” or “does not recommend” your business.

If it is a positive recommendation, a red star will be displayed close to the name of the person leaving the recommendation.

If it is a negative review, or a “does not recommend,” the star will be gray.

Currently, Facebook does not allow you to delete a recommendation or review on your page.

However, you can report the recommendation, and Facebook may remove it if it violates one of their policies . 

To report a recommendation, click on the three dots on the right-hand side of the recommendation. A dropdown menu will appear; select the option “Find Support or Report Recommendation.”

Facebook will determine whether or not to remove the content.

Usually, Facebook will only remove it if it contains spam or abusive content. They will not remove a recommendation simply because it is a negative or unfavorable to the business.

Can Other People Comment on Facebook Recommendations?

Yes, people aside from the business and the original recommender are able to comment on Facebook recommendations.

When this happens, it is usually friends or associates of the original recommender, although sometimes it is other customers or random bystanders.

This is important to remember when you craft your responses.

Hidden Facebook Recommendations Exist, But They Do Not Affect Your Star Rating.

Customers can potentially leave you a recommendation that you are unable to see or interact with.

Because of Facebook’s privacy settings, your customers are able to decide whether or not to make the recommendation public, or only available to their chosen friends and colleagues.

Facebook will not use these private recommendations in calculating your star rating. It may be a good idea to remind satisfied customers to make their recommendation public so that it will count toward your Facebook star rating and improve your overall online reputation.

Now that your business is collecting recommendations, how do you answer them?

What is the best way to interact with customers online?

The most important thing to remember is that you should reply to every recommendation, whether positive or negative, and ensure that every customer feels heard and accommodated. There are a few different guidelines to answering recommendations which we will discuss now.  

Answering Positive Recommendations

When customers leave a positive recommendation, they are sharing their appreciation for the work you are doing.

The best response is to share your appreciation for them in return.

Thank the customer for taking the time to leave you a recommendation and let them know that you are grateful for their business. A good response would include the name of the customer, a short note of appreciation, and perhaps an invitation to work with them again in the future.

The customer will be notified as soon as you respond, through their Facebook notifications.

This is a great example of personalization, which is essential to a good positive recommendation response.

Writing a personal response ensures that the customer knows that you read their recommendation, and that you appreciate it. 

Keeping with the theme of personalization, it is important to avoid robotic or canned responses. There is a temptation to rely on response templates, particularly when a recommender is satisfied and not looking for confrontation, but it is relatively easy for customers to see through this.

Instead, it is best practice for businesses to personally respond to every recommendation and ensure that each customer feels heard.

Answering Negative Recommendations

When a customer does not recommend your business on Facebook, it can be tempting to jump straight to the defense.

Remember that your customer is likely looking for an outlet to express frustration and a defensive response may prompt further negative reactions.

This can quickly spiral out of control.

On Facebook in particular, it is very important to keep unseemly fighting or negativity out of the public eye. Regardless of how unreasonable the negative commentary, the most essential aspect of a negative recommendation response is moving the conversation out of public view.

Providing a phone number is usually the best practice, but an email address can do as well.

What the public does see is a responsive and accommodating business who doesn’t ignore negative feedback but instead addresses the concerns of their customers directly. 

It is nearly impossible to prevent all negative recommendations and there is some indication that you wouldn’t want to even if you could .

However, every business can change how they respond to negative feedback. Doing so will help ensure that your loyal customers stay loyal, and that potential customers see your business in the best light.

To get reviews on Facebook , you need to make sure your customers know where to write a review by sending them a review link.

It’s easy enough to get your Facebook review link. Just open your Facebook Business page in a desktop browser, click on the “Reviews” tab, and copy the URL.

The problem with this, however, is that this review link won’t prompt customers to log in. This means an extra action some customers will have to complete, which can, believe it or not, discourage them.

The key is to make the review process as quick and easy as possible for your customers. This, in turn, will increase the likelihood of them posting a review.

You can do this by creating a Facebook review link with a login prompt . It’s not as hard as it sounds, as we break it down in just three steps.

There are three steps to creating a Facebook review link:

  • Create a Facebook login URL
  • Modify the URL to redirect customers after login
  • Add your business name to the URL

It sounds technical, but it’s not. You’ll see as we explain each step below.

Step 1: Create A Facebook Login URL

Customers can’t post a Facebook review for your business without logging in to Facebook first. 

Most Facebook users will know how to log in if needed, but, again, we’re trying to make it as easy as possible by assisting customers through the process.

All this step requires is adding “/login” to the end of the Facebook homepage URL, so that it looks like this: https://www.facebook.com/login/.

Step 2: Modify The URL To Redirect Customers After Login

After the customer logs in, you want to make sure that the customer is taken to your Facebook Business page – not to the Facebook News Feed.

This ensures the customer won’t have to search for your business or enter your Facebook URL a second time. 

To do this, add “?next=” to the end of the Facebook login URL made in step 1, so that it looks like this: https://www.facebook.com/login/?next=.

Step 3: Add Your Business Name To The URL

The final step is to add “https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fyourbusiness%2Freviews%2F” to the URL made in step 2.

However, you’ll need to replace “yourbusiness” with your business name as it reads in the URL of your Facebook page.

Once you have made the change and added it to the URL made in step 2, the final URL—your Facebook review link—should look like this (except with your business name): https://www.facebook.com/login/?next=https://www.facebook.com/yourbusiness/reviews/.

How To Request A Review On Facebook

Creating your Facebook review link is only half the work, unfortunately. You’ll need to send the review link to customers, needless to say, but you’ll also need to use best practices for your review request to be effective.

This involves two things:

  • Sending your Facebook review requests using the appropriate channels
  • Including a message that encourages the customer to click the link to write a review

The key to creating an effective review request message is to be direct yet friendly while expressing why their feedback is valued.

You can send your review requests using email, SMS, and Facebook messages, but, in general, email is more recommended. Customer emails are easier to collect than phone numbers, and emails are less personal than Facebook messages.

How To Enable Facebook Reviews

It’s no good to send Facebook review request links to your customers if your reviews aren’t turned on. While Facebook reviews are enabled by default, it’s worth checking to make sure!

Thankfully, enabling Facebook reviews takes just five simple steps:

  • Log in to your Facebook Business page
  • Click on “Settings” (located at the top right-hand corner)
  • Click on “Templates and Tabs” (located in the left-hand sidebar)
  • Scroll down to “Show Reviews” (in the “Reviews” section) and click the toggle “On”  
  • Click “Save” to confirm the change

Remember: Facebook reviews are enabled by default. So if you find that your Facebook reviews are enabled (the toggle will be green/“On”), make sure not to change the setting.

How To Increase Engagement On Facebook

Facebook's Oversight Board to consider if 'from the river to the sea' is hate speech

The independent Oversight Board that hears appeals about content decisions on Facebook and Instagram said Tuesday it would consider whether the pro-Palestinian phrase “from the river to the sea” violates the platforms’ rules, including their ban on hate speech. 

The Oversight Board, which operates similarly to a court, said in a statement that it had agreed to hear three cases concerning the phrase as used in comments or posts on Facebook. The three cases all date to November, following Hamas’ terrorist attacks on Israel on Oct. 7 and the start of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza. 

In each of the three cases, other Facebook users reported the phrase, saying it violated platform rules about hate speech, incitement or violent organizations . In one case, 937 users reported the phrase 951 times. In a second case, four users reported it seven times, and in a third case, one user reported it, the board said.  

And in each of the three cases, Facebook did not take down the phrase. Automated systems handled the complaints initially, and when the complaints reached human moderators, they ruled that the phrase did not violate platform rules, according to the board. The users opposed to the phrase then appealed to the Oversight Board. 

“The Board selected these cases to consider how Meta should moderate the use of the phrase given the resurgence in its use after October 7, 2023, and controversies around the phrase’s meaning,” the board said in a statement on its website. Meta is the parent company of Facebook and Instagram. 

The Oversight Board said it would accept public comment on the question for the next two weeks before it deliberates and issues a decision that would most likely be binding on Facebook and Instagram. 

The phrase is often included as part of pro-Palestinian slogans and chants, including at protests across the country, and it has long been a point of controversy. It generally refers to the geographic area between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea — the region central to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict — and its deeper meaning is sharply debated. 

Some interpret the phrase as a general appeal to Palestinian nationalism, while others, including Hamas, have used it to call for a Palestinian state over the entire area, meaning Israel would not exist as an independent state. 

The Oversight Board summed up the competing views this way: “On the one hand, the phrase has been used to advocate for the dignity and human rights of Palestinians. On the other hand, it could have antisemitic implications, as claimed by the users who submitted the cases to the Board.” 

Among the people who have used the phrase is Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., the sole Palestinian American in Congress. In November, the House voted 234-188 to censure her , saying she had called for the destruction of the state of Israel. She said that the censure resolution distorted her views and that the phrase “is an aspirational call for freedom, human rights, and peaceful coexistence, not death, destruction, or hate.”  

One of the Facebook posts the Oversight Board is reviewing received about 8 million views, the board said. It included “what appears to be a generated image of fruit floating on the sea that form the words from the phrase, along with ‘Palestine will be free,’” according to the board. 

Human moderators reviewed the user reports and denied them, and Meta’s management has stood by those decisions, the board said. 

“After that review, Meta determined that, without additional context, it cannot conclude that ‘From the river to the sea’ constitutes a call to violence or a call for exclusion of any particular group, nor that it is linked exclusively to support for Hamas,” the board wrote, summing up the position of Meta’s management. 

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg began talking about setting up the appeals board in 2018, saying social media companies needed an outside check on their decision-making about content moderation. 

In one of its most significant decisions, the Oversight Board in 2021 upheld the suspension of former President Donald Trump from Meta’s platforms but ruled that it was inappropriate to make the ban indefinite. Meta last year reinstated Trump’s accounts. 

The board has 22 members, including a former prime minister of Denmark, free speech advocates and law professors from around the world, according to its website .

I'm a recent college graduate, and many of the stereotypes about my age group involve partying, excessive drinking, and hanging out with friends. The reality, though, is a bit bleak: Gen Z is lonely , drinking less , and splurging more on their groceries than nights out.

However, after years of watching my favorite content creators share what it's like to "get their lives together" in their late 20s and early 30s, I'm inclined to think Gen Z might be onto something.

Call us overachievers or flat-out boring, but maybe we don't want to wait until we're 30 to build consistent, healthy routines we're happy with — I know I don't.

So, earlier this year, I made it my personal mission to curate an effective morning routine and started researching the special group of humans who seem innately more prepared to start their days than the rest of us: CEOs.

After some mixed results copying Apple CEO Tim Cook's morning routine for a week, I was determined to try something new.

Ideally, my morning routine would consist of a workout, breakfast, reading, and ample time for getting dressed and doing my hair and makeup. Luckily, I found that Snap Inc. CEO Evan Spiegel likes the same things as me (minus the hair and makeup).

At 33, Spiegel is one of the youngest billionaires in the world with a net worth of $3.9 billion, per Forbes . He wakes up at 5 a.m. to check his app, read emails, and work out or meditate. Then, he showers, gets ready, and reads the news before having breakfast with his wife, Miranda Kerr, and their children at their mansion in Brentwood, California.

His routine aligns with what I'm looking for, and thanks to my previous experience with Cook's routine — which involved waking up at 4:45 a.m., strength training, and coffee — I knew what it would take to prepare for such an early start to the day.

Here's how it went.

I exceeded my expectations and was wide awake by 5:30 a.m. on Monday.

OK, technically, it was 5:32 a.m., but give a girl some credit.

In 2018, Spiegel said in an interview that appeared in the Entrepreneurship Handbook that he likes to wake up early to give himself some alone time.

"I get up really early, because that's the only time that's 'Evan Time' for me, when people aren't really awake yet. I get a couple hours between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m. to do whatever I wanna do," he said.

So, to prepare, I went to bed at 10:30 p.m. and even agreed to sacrifice my side of the bed for the week so I could more easily get to the alarm I share with my boyfriend.

I woke up right on time at 5 a.m. and redownloaded the Snap app since I haven't used it in years (sorry, Evan), but I accidentally "blinked" and woke up again at 5:32 a.m., this time wide awake.

Once I was out of bed, it was time to make coffee and work out.

I said a small thank you to the earlier version of me who had picked workout clothes the night before. I got dressed, put in my contacts, and made a cup of coffee.

Snap told BI that Spiegel likes to check the app and his email and drink a double espresso when he wakes up. Then, he'll exercise at the gym for 45 minutes or meditate.

I'm still a "coffee with my creamer" kind of girl, so I sipped my usual cup of coffee and checked my email and the updated Snap interface before scrolling through YouTube for a workout video.

I followed a Chloe Ting video that focused on arms, and afterward, I realized it felt really good to finish a workout so early in the morning.

I was pleasantly surprised by Spiegel's skincare must-have.

Then, it was time to shower and try the part of Spiegel's routine I was most excited about: his face wash. Spiegel has been married to Kerr, a model and the founder of Kora Organics, since 2017, and he uses the brand's turmeric brightening and exfoliating mask.

"He doesn't use it as an actual mask; he keeps it in the shower and uses it as an exfoliant," Kerr told New Beauty in 2019.

"What he loves about it is that it has peppermint oil in it, so it's so invigorating. He says he can't be without it because it's his little boost of aromatherapy in the morning! It gives him energy!" she added.

According to Snap, he still uses it, so I wanted to see if it was worth the hype. I bought a 1-ounce tube, which cost $20.

First impressions: Wow, they weren't kidding — the peppermint is strong.

I loved the feel of the exfoliating particles and how smooth my skin felt afterward. The best way to describe the experience was as if the sensation of using mouthwash was on my face, which doesn't sound pleasant, but I found it to be very enjoyable and, yes, "invigorating."

My only issue with Spiegel's routine thus far was that he reportedly allots a mere 15 minutes to get ready after his shower.

I, meanwhile, am more of a "Vogue's Beauty Secrets" six-step skincare routine, try on a bunch of outfits, perform a mini concert while doing my hair, and listen to a podcast while doing my makeup kind of gal. So, 15 minutes? Couldn't be me.

But with ample time to spare after such an early start, I realized I didn't have to rush to complete all those steps immediately; I could sit, have breakfast, and even knock out some chores before going back to hair and makeup.

Waking up so early gave me time to finish my self-care routine, get ahead on chores, and read before work.

I don't know if it was the bright sun shining through my windows or the earlier dose of caffeine, but after I ate my breakfast, I went on a superwoman cleaning spree around my apartment, washing dishes, starting a couple of loads of laundry, and wiping down my glass coffee table.

And I still had time to finish getting ready and read a Wall Street Journal article before clocking into work at 9 a.m.

A 10/10 morning.

On Tuesday, I maintained my momentum and didn't feel rushed at all, even though I had to commute.

Day two also started strong.

I woke up at 5 a.m. and was out of bed by 5:30 a.m. to get dressed and head to my living room for another workout.

I made myself a cup of coffee and took a picture of the early moments of the sunrise over New York City before doing a Pilates workout and repeating one of the same Chloe Ting arm workouts from Monday. After that, I finished my coffee while watching a vlog before moving on to the rest of my routine.

Thanks to my early start, I had enough time to try on a few outfits, make my lunch, pack my work bag, and toast a bagel for breakfast without rushing, which is simply unheard of in my life.

I was out of my apartment by 8 a.m. and clocked in at 8:45 a.m., feeling incredibly satisfied. My one shortcoming of the morning was forgetting to read, but a win is a win.

On Wednesday, I tried Kriya meditation for the first time. Spiegel has called it "life-changing."

Wednesday was the first time I struggled to wake up on time. Despite taking my daily Snap at 5:11 a.m., I didn't get out of bed until 5:45 a.m. Given how sore I felt from working out the past two days, I decided Wednesday would be the perfect day to try Spiegel's other morning activity: Kriya meditation.

Spiegel told Vogue Australia in 2022 that his wife got him "hooked on Kriya meditation."

"On a good day, I can get 45 minutes in the morning to meditate, which is life-changing," he added.

In 2020, BI reported on the extensive benefits of meditation including better focus and concentration, reduced stress levels, and improved self-esteem and self-awareness.

On YouTube, I found a video entitled " Isha Kriya : A Guided Meditation For Health And Wellbeing | 15-Minutes" by the channel Sadhguru.

"Daily practice of Isha Kriya will bring health, dynamism, prosperity, and wellbeing. It is a powerful tool to cope with the hectic pace of modern life and empowers people to experience their lives to the fullest potential," the video displayed on the screen.

From my understanding after watching the video, one of the main features of Isha Kriya meditation is the practice of breathing while thinking, "I am not the body," and exhaling with the thought, "I am not even my mind."

I don't know if it's possible to be "bad" at meditating, but that's certainly what it felt like to me — a first-timer and chronic over-thinker.

While trying to focus on the space between my eyebrows and to think only of how "I am not my body," I was instead thinking about all the things I had planned for the day, how I would write about the experience, and how long it'd been since I started.

Although I wouldn't call this initial attempt at meditation successful, I think trying it was useful in helping me identify a weakness that makes it challenging to stay in the present.

I finished the meditation and proceeded with the rest of the routine, arriving at my office in time to grab a coffee and snack and read a bit of a WSJ article.

I started Thursday slow but still made time for a quick workout and breakfast.

Unfortunately, I didn't feel well when I woke up, so I pushed off working out until around 7 a.m. I used the Kora Organics again in the shower before getting dressed to work from home. Rather than my usual hair and makeup routine, I skipped both, favoring a bun and a fresh face since I had no intention of leaving my apartment.

I had a bagel and coffee for breakfast and read some of Business Insider's latest stories before clocking in at 9 a.m.

The morning was a much more condensed attempt at Spiegel's routine, but I could truly feel the difference an adjusted sleep schedule makes. All week, I'd been going to sleep by 10:30 p.m. not by sheer force, but because I was naturally feeling tired.

Friday was the least productive day, but Spiegel's definitely onto something with "Evan Time."

On Friday, I wasn't feeling well again, so I got up around 7 a.m. and tried to do a quick five minutes of meditation.

Although this wasn't the routine I aimed for, I could still appreciate the impact of the little shifts I'd made in my mentality. Before this, I would've stayed in bed till 8-8:30 a.m. and just rolled from my bed to my laptop for work at 9 a.m., but with my improved sleep schedule and more disciplined mindset, I was able to get up an hour earlier and take some time for myself before jumping into the demands of the day, which felt like a huge win.

So, while the only Spiegel-related highlight of my morning was the face wash, I was optimistic about my ability to sustain these efforts going forward.

After a week of living like Evan Spiegel, I finally understand the appeal of waking up early.

In the weeks since I attempted to copy Spiegel's routine, I've continued using the face wash, sleeping by 10:30 p.m. and waking up by 7 a.m. at the latest, and I'm happy with my progress.

It's a stark contrast to how exhausted I felt after finishing Tim Cook's routine, which surprised me since both men wake up incredibly early.

Looking back, it's easy to see how important timing was in the outcome of both routines. When I completed Cook's routine, daylight-saving time had just started, causing me to lose an hour of sleep; my body never had a chance to adjust properly before being thrown into a completely new routine. By comparison, trying Spiegel's routine in mid-April allowed me to adjust and wake up shortly before sunrise.

Waking up at 5 a.m. is still unnecessary for my lifestyle, but I think the best part of trying a routine like this again has been learning how to be more disciplined. Of course, it would be easy to lay in bed for an extra 15 minutes — and trust me, sometimes I do — but if I know that getting out of bed will make me less rushed and stressed, what's the point in continuing to self-sabotage?

I've by no means mastered my mornings, but I think I've gotten one step closer to figuring out the puzzle, and that's good enough for now.

Curious Twins Paranormal and Victoria’s Black Swan Inn are hosting the Psychic & Spirit Fest from 4-11 p.m. on Saturday, May 18.

The annual event will feature Ed and Lorraine Warrens’ Occult Museum — a collection of haunted artifacts owned by the famed paranormal investigators — as well as psychics, mediums, spiritualists, podcasters, vendors and tours.

The event will be held at Victoria’s Black Swan Inn, located at 1006 Holbrook Rd., Suite A.

Beyond being a very talented actor and certified awards-season boyfriend , Barry Keoghan is also a serious Carpenter.

On Monday night, the Saltburn star made things officially official—as in Met Gala red-carpet official—with his pop-songstress girlfriend, Sabrina Carpenter , as the two touched down at the museum together. Arriving simultaneously, the pair walked the carpet in a sleek Burberry suit and a floral-inspired frock by Oscar de la Renta, respectively, posing together at the top of the steps.

Carpenter’s look included a black velvet bodice with a voluminous double-faced, draped satin bouffant skirt, the latter detail drawing inspiration from an orchid. Keoghan’s suit, meanwhile, included a tailored olive-colored velvet jacket, black pinstripe wool waistcoat, ruffled silk poplin shirt, and tailored trousers. He accessorized with a black wool top hat and black leather oxford boots. (His ensemble combined Savile Row elements with Victorian-era flourishes, inspired by the character of Count Axel in J.G. Ballard’s short story “The Garden of Time.”)

Everything You Need to Know About the 2024 Met Gala

So—how did we get here? After allegedly meeting in September 2023, at Givenchy’s spring 2024 show in Paris, Keoghan, 31, and Carpenter, 24, were first photographed à deux that December in Los Angeles on a dinner date. (While Carpenter had previously been linked to singer Shawn Mendes, Keoghan had recently parted ways with Alyson Kierans, his girlfriend of a few years, with whom he shares a son.) After being papped in Los Angeles again in January 2024—this time at Luna Luna —they technically made their first real public appearance together at W magazine’s Grammys after-party in February, although they walked the carpet separately.

In the following weeks, Keoghan entered his Travis Kelce–esque supportive-beau phase of their courtship. After being spotted in Singapore , waiting for Carpenter to finish her string of opening sets on Taylor Swift’s Eras tour, he was seen at an Academy Awards dinner in early March, sporting a friendship bracelet with her name on it.

A month later, Keoghan also stood adorably by at Coachella, studiously filming as Carpenter performed during weekend one. His attention was duly rewarded: The following week, in rather a Swiftian move of her own, Carpenter changed the lyrics at the end of her song “Nonsense” to wink at one of Keoghan’s most infamous scenes in Saltburn , singing, “Made his knees so weak, he had to spread mine / He’s drinkin’ my bathwater like it’s red wine.” (Cue bloodcurdling screams from the audience.)

What can we say? Now that they’ve gone from furtive L.A. dinners to striding the Met steps side by side, Keoghan does indeed look very cute wrapped round her finger.
