TSC regularly announces teaching vacancies for qualified candidates to apply. Teachers who are Holders of P1 Certificate, Diploma or Degree are usually asked to make the application in their respective area of teaching after TSC has advertised for the recruitment.

Primary School Application Process For TSC Employment
Requirements for p1 vacancy application.

Requirements for Diploma and Degree applicants
- Must be registered with the Teachers service Commission
Diploma and degree holders for secondary school applications are required to submit their applications to the board of management of the school where a vacancy has been advertised and submit a copy of the application to the TSC County Director.
Note: TSC application is usually free. There are no charges imposed to applicants who are seeking the job vacancies.
What To Expect During the Interview
If you are shortlisted, you will be invited for an interview. For the P1 position, the interview process involves verifying your original documents. Your cumulative points are confirmed and if you rank high you will be considered for the available positions. Successful applicants are usually issued with posting letters before they can join their working station.
TSC also stipulates that, you can be posted to any school in the country. Applicants do not have the power to choose their preferred working station. However for the for the Diploma and degree applicants, you will fill the vacancy at the school you were interviewed. It should be noted that sometimes the interview are done in clusters but not at each school. For this case, you will be posted at the school that had the vacancy you applied for.
For the diploma and degree applicants, you will be interviewed by the recruiting panel at the school you made the application. Only competitive candidates during the interview are normally considered for the chances available.

In the letter the Commission Secretary spells out the entry level of the teacher i.e Secondary School Teacher II for teachers entering the profession as degree holders. The station where the teacher has been posted and the subjects to be handled are also written on the employment letter.

A newly recruited teacher works on probation for a period of not less than six (6) months. In some cases the probation period may be extended if the teacher’s performance is unsatisfactory; at worst, the teacher’s employment may be terminated before completion of the probation period. To be confirmed on permanent terms, the head of institution fills a recommendation form for the teacher that is sent to TSC for approval.
The teacher is expected to proceed to the posted institution as indicated on the employment letter and has a grace period of 30 days from the effective date; as stated on the letter.
This year’s newly Recruited Teachers are required to report on 4rth January 2021 but not later than 30 days from the effective given date.

STARTING SALARY SCALE.
The employment letter also spells out the expected basic salary per year depending on the entry grade of the teacher.
Post Primary TSC Teachers on T-Scale 7 are expected to earn between 419,460p.a to Ksh.524,328 p.a
The teacher is also entitled to monthly allowances pegged on his/ her grade. Allowances that the teacher may get include, but not limited to: House allowance and Commuter allowance.
Teachers working in areas classified as hardship get hardship allowance on top of the two allowances. While, those working at schools with differently abled learners also receive Special allowance.
The teacher is expected to work in any part of the country where the Commission feels his/ her services are required.
Additionally, the teacher will have to serve at the initial work station, where the first posting has been made, for a period of not less than five (5) years before requesting for a transfer.
In some cases such a teacher may be transferred under special consideration from the Commission on such grounds as Medical and insecurity; as may be deemed fit by TSC.
The employment letter is also copied to the Principal or head of institution and the TSC County Director.

Teachers Service Commission New Employment Letters 2023-2024
TSC employment letter.The Teachers Service Commission, or TSC, gives a letter of employment to a newly hired teacher called a “Letter of probationary employment” after checking the teacher’s documents.
The letter is sent to the teacher through the TSC station where the teacher is serving. In the letter, the Commission Secretary describes the starting level of the teacher, which is Secondary School Teacher II for teachers who have a bachelor’s degree.
On the employment letter, it also says where the teacher will be working and what classes they will be teaching.

Conditions Of Work
A new teacher is on probation for at least six months after being hired. If a teacher doesn’t do a good job, the probation period may be extended.
In the worst case, the teacher’s job may be ended before the end of the evaluation period. The head of the school fills out a proposal form for the teacher, which is then sent to TSC for approval.
The job letter says that the teacher should go to the posted school. The letter also says that the teacher has 30 days after the start date to get there. Letters of Employment from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
The letter of hire also says how much the teacher will make per year as a basic salary. This depends on the teacher’s starting grade. The teacher is also eligible for a grade-based monthly stipend.
Some of the possible allowances a teacher could get are a house allowance and a commuting allowance.
In addition to the two allowances, teachers who work in places that are considered hard get a hardship allowance. Those who work in schools with students who have different abilities also get a special wage.

Also, the teacher will have to work at the first posting for at least five years before asking for a transfer. Though, in some cases, a teacher like this could be moved if the Commission gives it extra attention for reasons like health or safety, as the TSC sees fit.
