All four Research Station locations and how to unlock them in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Image of Alex Tsiaoussidis

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s end game takes place in Area Zero in The Great Crater of Paldea. Professors Sada or Turo will ask players, accompanied by Arven, Penny, and Nemona, to unlock four Research Stations as they explore the area and make their way towards the bottom. Sounds simple enough, right? But there’s a small catch.

The map doesn’t work like it usually does, making the process of finding them all the more difficult. Don’t worry, though. We’re here to help!

Read out to find out where you need to go.

How to unlock Research Station One

Research Station One is pretty close to the first place you land. Turn left and follow the path down. You’ll see the Research Station sitting at the bottom of a cliff ledge you can slide down.

Come prepared, though. Glimmora will be waiting for you in all its Rock and Poison-type glory. Nemona will step in to help out, so it shouldn’t be too difficult. Once you’ve beaten it, head inside and press the button.

How to unlock Research Station Two

Research Station Two is a little further down the road. Follow the path until you reach a crossroad. Turn right and head in that direction. Eventually, you’ll see the Research Station in the distance.

Slide down the slope and prepare yourself for another encounter with a Paradox Pokémon. Like the other one, head inside and press the button. You can now come back here at any time.

How to unlock Research Station Three

Follow the nearby path down a steep slope until you come across a stream of water. Turn right and make your way around the waterfall. This will lead you to Research Station Three.

Another Paradox Pokémon will be waiting for you at the entrance. You know the drill by now. Defeat it and make your way into the Research Station to unlock it, and take a rest if you need.

How to unlock Research Station Four

All that remains now is the fourth and final one, Research Station Four. It’s located at the very bottom of Area Zero.

From Research Station Three, head left and follow the path until another left turn comes up. You should see a cave. Enter it, and a cutscene will play. Once it’s done, keep following the path all the way down to the bottom. Stick to the left side, and eventually, you’ll come across Research Station Four.

If you’ve followed these instructions, you should have found and unlocked all four Research Stations in Area Zero.

Even after you’ve finished the end game, you can come back to the Research Stations at any time and even teleport between them to make catching Pokémon in Area Zero a lot easier.

How to unlock all four Research Stations in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Image of Zack Palm

When you reach Area Zero in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, the Professor will request that you explore the area and unlock the four locks to their lab. This will be the only way to reach them in Area Zero and assist them in their quest. Unfortunately, the map won’t work for this portion of the quest, so tracking down these Research Stations can be a bit difficult. Here’s what you need to know about how to unlock all four Research Centers in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

All four Research Stations locations in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Much of this area has a large, single path, so you will have to routinely focus on moving forward. There are multiple Pokémon scattered throughout Area Zero, many of them at a high level. It’s a good time to train your Pokémon, but you want to try avoiding them to focus on reaching the Research Stations. These stations do have beds you can use to rest in-between battles.

First Research Station

The first Research Station you need to find will be on the left when you arrive. Follow the path down, and you should find the Research Station down a rocky slope. When you reach it, it will be protected by a Glimmora, a Rock and Poison-type Pokémon. Nemona will offer to assist you in battle, and more often than not, her Lycanroc can take it down in a single hit.

Second Research Station

The next station is much further away than this one. You will want to follow the path you’ve been taking, and when you reach a fork in the road, go to the right and continue going down this path. This will lead you to the next Research Station, but it will be protected by a unique variation of a Pokémon, a Paradox Pokémon.

Third Research Station

One will be in the distance from the second Research Station behind you. You’ll want to follow the path to the right and go down a slope. Although the one you see in the distance is closer, you won’t be able to reach it quite from that direction. Instead, make your way to the right, go around the waterfall, and you will find it. It will be another Paradox Pokémon protecting the entrance.

Fourth Research Station

The fourth and final Research Station awaits you. From the third Research Station, go to the left, and proceed to another left. There will be a cave you need to proceed through, and when you enter the larger cave, a cutscene will briefly play out.

After the cutscene, continue down the path and follow it to the bottom. There should be a crystal-like Research Station on the far side. Keep to the left of the path as much as possible, which should lead you to the final Research Station.

All 4 Research Station Locations in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

So, you’ve reached Area Zero and are tasked by the regional professor to come and meet them at the bottom. But to gain access to wherever they are, you first need to unlock four locks hidden in the four Research Stations in the area. Here’s how to find all of them in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.

Best route to get to all 4 Research Stations in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Area Zero doesn’t have a map but it does have the rough layout of a spiral . As long as you walk down the slopes without taking any shortcuts, you’ll naturally pass by the first three Research Stations.

Where to find Research Station No. 4?

what to do after research station 4

The last Research Station is at the very bottom of Area Zero, near the professor’s location. To reach it, warp to Research Station No. 3 and head towards the cave in its opposite direction.

From the entrance, turn right. The corridor isn’t obvious but it’s there. Then, again follow the spiral downwards until you reach Research Station No. 4.

Koraidon nor Miraidon will be with you until the credits roll, so you need to make sure you follow the road. If you fall or run too far from your friends, you’ll be warped to the last Research Station you visited.

Where are all the Paradox Pokémon?

Area Zero is the so-called place where Paradox Pokémon dwell. If so, then where are all the Paradox Pokémon? You won’t see them yet until you encounter Iron Bundle (the Delibird lookalike) and you won’t meet all of them until you finish the main story.

How to Get Access to All Research Stations in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Image of Ryan Bruckner

The first time you visit the Great Crater of Paldea, you have to find four research stations to advance the story and beat the game. These stations are the only place in the area to heal your Pokemon, so you can return to them and heal your team after catching some Paradox Pokemon. Here’s everything you need to know about how to access all the research stations in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

How To Find the Four Research Stations in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

The Pokemon in the Great Crater of Paldea are some of the highest levels in the game, so it’s a good idea to beat the Elite 4 and Team Star boss before coming here.

Your destination is at the bottom of the crater, so you’ll be heading downhill from station to station. There are plenty of items and TMs in the crater, so feel free to explore, but continue heading downhill when you’re done. To reach the first station, take a left from where you land in the crater and keep walking until you see a white building and a slide made from stone.

A Research Station in the Great Crater from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

The second station isn’t too far from the first, just continue straight from the first research station and you’ll see another slide and the second research station beyond it. You can quickly heal your team then head off to the next station.

A Research Station in the Great Crater from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Follow the steep path down from the second station and cross a shallow stream at the bottom. The third station is across from the mouth of a large cave, but you have to go around the cave to get there.

The last station is inside the cave, but don’t worry: the path is straight other than a brief detour around a pile of boulders blocking your path. You’ll definitely want to heal your Pokemon before heading to the floor of the cave and beating the game.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: What to Do After Completing the Main Story

There are plenty of things to see and do in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet even after the curtain has fallen and the end credits have finished rolling.

Just because a player has defeated the Elite Four and become a Pokemon Champion doesn't mean that there aren't still plenty of things for them to see and do in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet . In fact, the Gen 9 games are packed so full of post-game content that players can expect to still be playing them long after the end credits have finished rolling.

RELATED: Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: The Best Order to Get Every Badge (Gyms, Titans & Team Star Bases)

As in a lot of the previous Pokemon games, some of the endgame content in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet is difficult to measure when it comes to exact time requirements, but twenty or so hours seems like a pretty conservative estimate. What's more, with plenty of post-release content planned and promised for the future, that number is only going to go up.

Complete the Main Story

For series veterans, completing a Pokemon game means beating the Elite Four and becoming a Pokemon Champion. However, things are a little different in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet . As well as the more traditional Victory Road storyline, players will also have access to a few others; namely the Path of Legends , which sees them defeating powerful Titans, and Starfall Street , which has players take down five Team Star bases.

Only after completing all three storylines will players unlock The Way Home, which serves as the final main story quest in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet and introduces players to the games' newly-added Paradox Pokemon . Upon completing this somewhat challenging mission, the end credits will roll and players will truly be able to say that they have completed the main story in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet .

Get a Master Ball from the Director

After the credits roll, players will be returned to their dorm room at the Academy and then summoned to the director's office. After a short conversation with Director Clavell, he'll give players a Master Ball, which can be used to give players a 100% chance of catching any wild Pokemon. As it seems that this is the only way to get a Master Ball in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet , players should think carefully about which Pokemon to use it on.

Catch Legendary Pokemon

At launch, there are only six Mythical and Legendary Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet ; two of which are version-exclusive Pokemon. One of these two can be found by returning to the Great Crater of Paldea after completing The Way Home, while the other four Legendaries can be obtained in either version by pulling out the 32 Ominous Black Stakes that are scattered throughout Paldea and then catching the Legendary Pokemon at their respective shrines.

Complete the Paldean Pokedex

There are 400 Pokemon in the Paldean Pokedex , though not all of them are available within one particular version of the Gen 9 games. This means that players will need to trade with friends if they're going to fully complete it, but the rewards for doing so are arguably well worth it. Among a few other things, players can get the Shiny Charm by speaking with the academy's biology teacher after completing the Pokedex, and, in doing so, significantly increase their chances of running into shiny Pokemon out in the wild.

Re-Challenge the Gym Leaders

After receiving the Master Ball, Geeta will ask players to help her to evaluate Paldea's gyms by battling the eight Gym Leaders once again. This time, however, the Gym Leaders will all have much stronger teams , with their regular Pokemon being at level 65 and their Tera Pokemon being at level 66. They can once again be tackled in any order, so players should think carefully about which gym to return to first.

Take Part in the Academy Ace tournament

Upon successfully defeating all eight Gym Leaders for a second time, players will unlock the Academy Ace tournament. To emerge victorious from this new challenge, they'll need to win four consecutive rounds against talented trainers and teachers, all of whom are packing powerful Pokemon that are level 65 or higher. The tournament is repeatable, making it a great way to level up Pokemon.

Unlock Five and Six-Star Raids

Players will unlock Five-Star raids simply by completing the main story and watching the credits role. However, those hoping to unlock Six-Star Raids will need to go a step further. First, they'll need to unlock the Academy Ace tournament by beating all eight gym leaders for a second time. Next, they'll have to keep hosting Five-Star raids until Jacq calls to let them know that Six-Star raids have become available.

Tackle Limited-Time Tera Raid Events

As well as regular raids, players will also be able to take part in special time-limited raid events featuring rare and powerful Pokemon. The first two Tera Raid events feature Charizard and Eevee, with many more likely to follow over the coming months. As well as catching rare Pokemon, players can get a whole host of special items by completing Tera Raids. This includes Herba Mystica, which can be turned into sandwiches that increase the chances of players running into shiny Pokemon.

Catch Shiny Pokemon

With the help of Shiny Sandwiches and the Shiny Charm, players should find themselves running into shiny Pokemon fairly frequently. They can further improve their chances of doing so by using Auto Battle , as a player's Pokemon will never Auto Battle a shiny Pokemon. This makes it much easier to clear an area of non-shines, which, in turn, can make any remaining shiny Pokemon much easier for players to spot.

Breed the Perfect Pokemon

Granted, it's possible to learn Egg Moves using other methods these days and players have been able to change the nature of their Pokemon using mints for quite some time now. However, long-time fans of the series will likely still take a lot of pleasure from breeding their own Pokemon and putting together the perfect team for high-level Tera raids or competitive battling. Breeding is also a good way to get shiny Pokemon, not to mention a great way to kill time.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are available now for the Nintendo Switch.

Starfield Entangled Quest Guide - How To Save Everyone

In the Entangled quest in Starfield, you're tasked to choose between two realities. Read this Starfield Entangled guide to save everyone.

In the Entangled quest in Starfield, you are made to choose between saving Rafael or saving the rest of the Nishina Research Station. Luckily, there's a way to save everybody. Check out this Starfield Entangled Guide.

Starfield Entangled Guide

You're brought to the Nishina Research Station after responding to a distress call. One of their experiments has taken a dangerous turn, leading to a series of strange occurrences within the facility. Your task is to navigate this perilous situation and decide whether to prioritize saving Rafael, the only casualty in the mishap, or the rest of the research station. However, it's worth noting that there's a hidden path to save everyone involved in the accident.

Upon starting the Entangled quest in Starfield, your companion will be asked to wait outside. Make sure you're packing enough ammo and weapons to go against some robots and aliens in excess. Go through the motions of the different NPCs leading you around the Research Station. You'll also encounter and “shift” between universes a few times – and the “doomed” version of the lab is quite unfriendly. This shifting will be an important mechanic in later parts of this quest.

what to do after research station 4

At a high point in the quest, you'll be asked to turn off a number of switches, all of which are kindly marked on your screen. In the “real” laboratory, you'll find Rafael's lifeless body on the first floor, just beneath the control room. Loot his body to acquire the “Probe Calibration Protocol” note, and read it carefully. This note contains vital instructions to follow. At this stage, don't interact with the numerous switches around the room.

How to save everyone in Starfield Entagled quest

Step 0: Clear the Area

  • Before proceeding, eliminate all the robots and aliens in both universes.
  • The “Sense Star Stuff” ability is particularly useful against the underground aliens in the “doomed” version of the lab, as it makes them visible.

Step 1: Ensure all Power Interlocks are engaged.

  • All switches in both universes must be turned on.
  • Your quest indicator should read 0/7, even after switching.
  • By default, all switches are on. This means if you haven't flipped a switch since entering this room, they're most probably all still engaged.

what to do after research station 4

Step 2: On the Lab Control Computer, initiate Degaussing.

  • The Lab Control Computer is found on the second floor.
  • The doomed Lab Control Computer is freely accessible, but you need to use the distortions to get inside the normal one.
  • In both Lab Control Computers, select Degaussing.

Step 3: Toggle the indicated Power Interlocks off, then back on, to degauss.

  • After selecting Degaussing, numbers will appear on the screen.
  • Turn off and then on again the switches indicated by the numbers on the Power Interlocks.
  • Hovering over them will show you which number corresponds to each switch.
  • Repeat this process for both universes.

Step 4: Verify that all Power Interlocks have been successfully degaussed.

  • Return to the Lab Control Computer in each universe and check if the Degaussing process is marked as successful.

Step 5: Once all interlocks have been degaussed, initiate Frequency Calibration.

  • Select “Frequency Calibration” on the Lab Control Computer in both universes.

what to do after research station 4

Step 6: Select the desired output frequency.

  • In the Real Lab computer, choose 40 GHz ,
  • In the Doomed Lab computer, choose 24 GHz .
  • This may also work the other way around, but in my run this is what I used and I was successful.

Starfield Entangled Conclusion and quest rewards

After doing the above steps, locate the Primary Calibration Control in both universes, which is positioned in the same area beside the artifact. Activate it. A brief cutscene will unfold. Following this, you'll regain consciousness in the Lab's clinic, having successfully saved everyone involved in the accident.

what to do after research station 4

You're treated to the reunion of Rafael and the rest of the Research Station. Your bravery also nets you some Credits, a legendary Nishina Spacesuit and a legendary Nishina Helmet.

You can also bring Rafael in right away to be part of your crew, but if you're not ready for that yet, you can come back for him in New Atlantis.

Choosing to save Rafael will get you Credits, some materials, and the ability to hire Rafael as Starfield crew, along with the added weight of the fact that you have just forsaken the lives of a few dozen people.

Saving Director Patel and the rest of the Nishina base rewards you the legendary Nishina Spacesuit and legendary Nishina Helmet.

Saving everyone in the Starfield Entangled quest doesn't make you miss out on anything (unless you liked the look of the doomed version of the lab)!

Nishina Outpost in Starfield sits on a grassy hill

Starfield ’ s “ Entangled ” mission is its coolest by far, and actually takes place as part of the “ Final Glimpses ” mission — which itself is part of a quest block alongside “ Unearthed .” It’s also rather confusing, and includes a bit of creative level design that can make your path far less clear than the rest of Starfield .

In this Starfield guide, we’ll walk you through the “Entangled” mission and which universe you should choose in the mess that is the Nishina Research Station .

A possible bug at launch is that players are sometimes unable to follow the scanner. If this happens to you, we recommend returning to orbit and waiting by passing time . Consider shutting the game off and launching it fresh as well, just in case.

Also, when you make to re-land on the planet, be absolutely sure you’re picking the Scanner Anomaly Site. If you land anywhere else by accident, the temple won’t appear on the map and you won’t be able to find it.

Figuring out what’s going on

The player speaks to Ethan in Starfield’s Entangled mission

As part of the “Final Glimpses” mission, where you’re collecting some final artifacts , you’ll find your way to a planet called Freya III . On Freya III, there will be a satellite orbiting the planet and it will send you a hail when you first arrive in orbit. When you accept it, you’ll get the “Entangled” quest, which is much, much bigger than “Final Glimpses.”

In order to complete “Final Glimpses” you’ll be told to finish “Entangled” first.

Investigate the Distress Signal // Enter the Nishina Research Station

After you hear the distress signal and get the “Entangled” quest, ignore the satellite and turn your sights to the Nishina Research Station landing zone on Freya III instead.

Once you land, follow the waypoint to the aforementioned station — which, on the outside, seems totally fine and not at all in distress. Curious.

Activate the intercom and speak to a man named Ethan . Tell him you’re from Constellation and he’ll put you on hold. Eventually, he’ll offer to let you in, but he’ll tell you that you need to leave your current companion outside. Sorry, Sam Coe.

Speak to Ethan // Follow Ethan

After you load inside, look to your left and you’ll see Ethan standing behind some glass. He’ll scan and then talk to you. Ask him about the station and he’ll walk you toward the director. That is until you phase out of this reality and into another one entirely.

The player walks up to a Cataxi nest in Starfield’s Entangled mission

This section of the quest deals in the involuntary phasing problem and how to solve it.

Explore the Ruins

When you pop into the ruined reality — which is what we’re going to call the one with all the bugs from now on — you’ll be under attack by a Cataxi Warrior , a charming creature local to this planet. Kill it and you’ll phase back into the pristine reality . Ethan will freak out and ask you nicely not to shoot him. Talk to him and then continue to follow him until you phase again.

Speak to Rafael

The player talks to Rafael in Starfield’s Entangled mission

Back in the ruined reality, you’ll find a middle-aged man named Rafael hiding behind some boxes and panicking. Introduce yourself and he’ll tell you that he sent the distress signal — and that he’s the only one in the station left alive after an accident. Ask him about the distortion and you’ll phase back to the pristine reality.

Find the Director’s office // Speak to Director Patel

The player talks to Director Patel in Starfield’s Entangled mission

You’ll phase a few more times on the way to the director’s office. Walk forward, head right, and kill some Cataxi. Go up the stairs and you’ll phase again. Ethan, your loyal companion, will be waiting for you. Continue following him into Director Patel ’s office.

Explain what’s happening to Patel and Maria and they’ll piece together what’s going on. They’ll also tell you a bit about the artifact and ask you to fix their little problem. But to do that, you’ll need to shut down the experiment in the basement — the one that caused Rafael’s accident (which killed him in the pristine universe).

Follow Maria // Get to the lab // Speak to Rafael

The player battles some Cataxi bugs

After talking to Director Patel, head out of her office with Maria and get ready to phase again. Turn around from the dead end and follow the waypoint in order to make it back to Rafael via the collapsed ceiling/floor.

Chat with him and explain the situation and your meeting with the director. You’ll tell him you need to get to the research station and he’ll become very nervous. He’ll give you a key to the door behind you and offer to back you up. Walk with him toward the waypoint and fight some Cataxi along the way.

If you struggle with the waves and waves of Cataxi here, we really recommend you make use of the Anti-Gravity Field , which suspends them for quite some time, regardless of their level.

When you make it into the ruins of the cafeteria , you’ll phase again and everyone will freak out. This is pretty standard practice for you at this point, so power through and cross to the other side of the room, where you’ll phase yet again. Head to the right , deal with the Cataxi, talk to Rafael again, and walk into the security office — where you’ll return to the pristine dimension.

Speak to Ethan

The player battles through the ruined dimension in Starfield’s Entangled mission

When you pop in behind Ethan, he’ll understandably freak out a bit, but calm down once he realizes it’s you — the two of you have really bonded quickly over the shared trauma of dimensional shifting.

Talk to him and he’ll give you directions to the lab. Keep talking to him and you’ll give an option to persuade him into giving you a weapon to fight the Cataxi. This is a medium difficulty Persuasion (six pips) and is absolutely worth using an auto-persuade on if you have one banked. If you succeed, he’ll hand you the Experiment A-7 shotgun , which deals bonus damage to aliens (that means Cataxi). This thing absolutely rules and we recommend you keep it handy for the rest of the mission.

Funnily enough, now that you’re pals, Ethan won’t mind if you take stuff from his office. That includes guns and ammo — both of which you’ll need a lot of over the next hour. Grab everything that’s not nailed down and head out of his door.

If you turn left back the way you came, you’ll phase back into the ruined dimension, which you don’t want to do (go back into the security office to fix this). Instead, walk out of Ethan’s office and head right . Walk toward the doorway in the next room marked “ elevator ” and you’ll shift again. Kill the Cataxi here and walk through the open door.

Kill the Cataxi as you go and head up the stairs through the door on your left once you enter the giant rec room — the one with observation windows along the top part of the wall.

Finally, you’ll phase back to the pristine reality. Walk into the door on your left and you’ll find Maria in the lab.

Speak to Maria // Assist Maria // Stand in the Distortion // Find the Probe Control Unit // Recalibrate the Distortion // Speak to Maria

The player picks up a special Probe Control Unit in Starfield’s Entangled mission

Talk to Maria, who doesn’t seem to trust you very much — and who can blame her. She want to test a control unit on you. Eventually, she’ll cause a Distortion to appear (the spinning light). Step into it and you’ll phase.

In the ruined dimension, walk forward and grab the Probe Control Unit from the table. Walk over to the Distortion in the corner of the room and activate it. This will teleport you back to the pristine reality. And with that, you’re officially done teleporting to different dimensions against your will.

Talk to Maria again and she’ll see that you already have a Probe Control Unit of your own. She’ll send you to talk to Director Patel one more time.

Speak to Director Patel // (Optional) Get supplies

Turn left from the lab and talk to Director Patel. She’ll give you the unfortunate news that you’re going to need to choose which reality stays tethered to your Starfield universe. Basically wherever you are when you shut off the machine will become the prime reality in your game. Thankfully you’ll have plenty of time to pick which dimension you want to choose.

Before you head into the basement, follow the waypoint — it should be quite a bit simpler now that you’re not phasing against your will — to Dr. Barakova . She’ll grumpily give you some meds , which you’re going to need on your adventure.

Into the basement

The player adventures into the research floor in the Entangled mission in Starfield

This next section of the quest is almost entirely about combat. Make sure you stock up on weapons and ammo before you head into the basement.

Take the elevator

When you’re ready to go down, make sure you’re in the pristine dimension before heading to the elevator. Although it’s worth mentioning that you can speak to Rafael in the ruined dimension if you want his input on the whole “which reality to choose” situation.

Anyway, use the Distortion next to the elevator to change back to the ruined dimension and ride it down to the research level.

Get to the lab // Override the lockdown the facilities section

The player picks up the Nishina Particle Lab Keycard in Starfield

This entire section is long and a bit tedious. We recommend you quicksave often and only grab the stuff you really want, as it’s easy to get encumbered quickly. If you do get encumbered and don’t want to drop anything, use the Personal Atmosphere power if you have it to make sure you don’t suffocate yourself by accident.

First thing you’ll need to do here is override the lockdown in the facilities section. Use the Distortion by the elevator to return to the pristine dimension. Walk forward to all the lockers (ignore the path to the left, that’s a shortcut for later) and use the Distortion to change realities to the ruined one. Head through the broken doors and grab the Nishina Particle Lab Keycard . Poke around if you’d like, but when you’re ready, use a nearby Distortion to get back to the pristine dimension.

The security system is on here, and it’s a major pain. Deal with the robots and the turrets — we’ve found laser weapons to be pretty effective — and remember that you can always shift realities if you get overwhelmed.

Use the key on the door and head down the stairs, deeper into the research area. Shoot the turrets before they get the chance to shoot you and take the Distortion in the room on your right . Back in the ruined dimension, head through the open emergency door ahead of you. (If you need more ammo and want some loot, backtrack a little to the hall with the turret, go through that emergency door, and use the Distortion to shift to the pristine dimension).

Turn left through the emergency door and follow the waypoint to a broken computer terminal. Use the nearby Distortion — which is hiding next to the machines behind you — to return to the pristine dimension. Kill the robots and turrets before accessing the computer . Override the security lockdown and turn the security system off , which will help you in this area, at least.

Override the lockdown in the accelerator section

The player prepares to enter a utility closet in Starfield’s Entangled mission

With the door open, head through and into the hall. You’ll find yourself near the elevator back up to the station if you need to take a breather or drop off some stuff in your ship.

When you’re ready to get back to it, go through the now open door at the bottom of the ramp. Head down the stairs in the pristine dimension and open the door. This is a big area packed with robots and turrets. Take it as slow as you need to. When everything is dead or disabled, head up the stairs and into the room on the left from where you entered.

You’ll be blocked by another emergency door, so use the nearby Distortion and get ready to fight a bunch of Cataxi — if you got the experimental shotgun from earlier, now is the perfect time to use it. Clear out the room and head through the open emergency door near the Distortion you used to enter the ruined dimension.

Go down the broken stairs and kill any Cataxi you find. Grab the Nishina Utility Closet Keycard off the desk. Return to the pristine dimension to loot the place if you’d like, otherwise head back up the stairs in the ruined dimension, return to the big room, and then swap back to the pristine dimension.

With the keycard in hand, head over to the wall where your waypoint is sending you. You’ll notice that all the doors are locked, but to the right of the windows you’ll find a closet. Open it using your fancy new key and you’ll find a Distortion. Bingo. Active it to travel to the ruined dimension, which is so messed up that the accelerator lab and closet are connected.

Walk into the lab and swap realities again, but be prepared for the turret waiting for you in this ruin. Take the turret out and access the console to shut down the security for this section, just like you did earlier.

Head back the way you came in (via the ruined dimension and the closet) and when you make it back to the pristine dimension you’ll find that a new doorway to a working computer will be open. Kill any new security threats and follow your waypoint to the PC in the Accelerator Control Room . Deactivate the security in here and override the locks.

Get to the lab // Override Lockdown in the Storage Section

The player inches toward a powerful Distortion in Starfield

The door at the northside of the big room (again, from where you started) will now be open. Head through and swap to the ruined dimension when you reach the Distortion on your right . Walk forward and head into the Cataxi cave on your right . Climb up the rocks to the upper platform, where you’ll find another Distortion. Activate it to teleport back to the pristine dimension.

Head to your left and walk inside the little lab, dealing with all the security bots if you trip the alarm. Use the Distortion in the lab to teleport to the ruined dimension and deal with some minor Cataxi. Opposite of the door you entered, you’ll find another hole in the wall leading to another Cataxi cave. Head inside and kill the big Cataxi you find, then proceed along the path until you reach a Distortion with the waypoint marker on it. Use it.

In the pristine reality, turn around and use the computer to override this section , then head out and deal with the security here. Go up the ramp, turn right, and focus all your firepower on the extremely high level turret above the door (level 36) . Use the Distortion at the bottom of the stairs and then go up the stairs and through the open door.

Which universe should you choose?

The player flips a switch in Starfield’s Entangled mission

Finally, you’ll reach the machine and the probe . This is the decision point here. Select the universe you want to be your universe.

Keeping in mind the morals of one man vs 30 people, it’s worth mentioning that you can eventually hire Rafael to your crew if you save the ruined dimension. If you save Director Patel and company you get a very cool space suit.

Which universe you should choose is ultimately up to you, as neither reward is so game changing that you absolutely must have it. And, as far as we’ve been able to tell, there are no long-term affects on the story based on your choice here.

Still, you’re never really wanting for companions in Starfield , so unless you’re a big outpost builder, the spacesuit will do you a lot more good than Rafael — not to put too fine a point on it. You’re also able to ask Director Patel to honor Rafael’s sacrifice, which doesn’t really do anything, but helps absolve the guilt a little bit (and really makes saving the pristine dimension feel like the “good” choice).

Disengage power interlocks (7/7) or switch universes // Shut down the probe // Take the artifact

Once you’ve made your decision, change to that dimension and head into the room with the machine. Shut off the switches in the reality of your choice.

Enemies will try and attack you while you do this, regardless of your universe. This actually makes this room pretty lucrative for XP, as you can swap between dimensions, kill all the enemies, and then choose the one you want.

When you’re ready, turn off the probe and grab the artifact from the wall.

Speak to Director Patel/Rafael

The player picks up a sweet new Legendary spacesuit in Starfield

Whichever reality you chose, head through the exit and back up the elevator.

The surviving NPC will talk to you as soon as you exit the elevator room. Director Patel and company will thank you for your service with a legendary spacesuit that gives you bonus damage to aliens and has some pretty beefy stats. Rafael will return with you to your ship and ask for you to drop him off at the next civilized system, but promises that he’ll eventually work for you, if you’re ever in need of an engineer.

Once you finish the “Entangled” mission, you’ll either be on to the second half of this quest batch, “ Unearthed ,” or the game’s real final mission, “ Revelation .”

Research stations will grant Spider-Man Research Tokens that can be used to unlock different items in the game. Finding and enter a research station will grant you 1 token. Completing the mission will grant 100 XP and 2 Tokens. As an added bonus they become Fast Travel points after completing the mission.

Financial District

Cell Tower Frequency Kinda esoteric, but this station monitors the city's cell tower network for potential vulnerabilities. People never think about it but those cell phones we all carry in our pockets? Pretty simple for a rogue agent to weaponize them, if we're not careful

There is a glitch in the cell tower system. It only affects sensitive equipment like that in Spidey's Suit. You will see blue sparking flat areas in the sky. These are the interference planes. If Spider-Man passes through the interference area he will begin taking in damage. So get out of the interference area as quickly as possible. Swing, web zip, and climb across the city to each of the rooftops to reset the towers.

Bacteria Buddies Ok, the stuff in this station? Revolutionary. If we can get it to work. Engineered bacteria that dissolves plastics into harmless component parts. Really hope we can work out the kinks...

Spidey puts the bacteria in his web fluid. The chemicals he needs to work on the bacteria are at ESU. Since we are storing the bacteria in the web cartridges it will dissolve the web if we try to swing. Spidey needs to make it to ESU without swinging. You can start a swing but the web will dissolve before you get too far. After swinging around the city as much as we do its instinctual to hit R2 to move around. You still can it just won't do much good. Instead climb buildings, jump, and Web-Zip to make it to ESU. Once there look through the trash for the chemicals needed. Now we have to travel more without swinging. Head to Octavius' lab to further the research. Inside the lab grab the bonding agent behind the Spectrograph. Use the Spectrograph to isolate the bacteria from the web fluid. Once successful exit the lab and swing, (oh thank you wonderful web swinging) back to the research station to test it out on the plastic containers.

Smog Alert This station monitors air quality; it's way more precise than anything in place now. If these were widely adopted, we could make huge leaps in quality of life for the entire city

The are areas of dense smog in the city. They will be marked on your mini map with a green cloud. If you want more visual evidence of the clouds then press R3 and they will show up in your field of view. This is especially helpful if doing the mission at night (on the game). Once you have swung through 8 clouds of smog, Spidey can trace the source to three vehicle types. Swing to each and take a picture of the vehicle.

Under Pressure This station monitors water pressure for nearby buildings. Anything goes wrong - pipe bursts or clogs - and an alert is automatically sent out to the city's maintenance teams. At least that's what would happen, if Oscorp had ever pushed the city to approve the system...

Press R3 to scan the pipes. They look to be find up here on the roof. The source of the problem seems to be at ground level. Drop down to the alley and find the valve. Turn the valve and a water tower begins to leak. Move up to the water tower and plug the leak by shooting your webs onto the hole where the water is leaking out. More towers nearby need the same mending. When all the towers are no longer leaking we find the problem is not completely fixed. Swing to the outlet pipe to check for a blockage. Sure enough it is full of debris. Hit L1 and R1 to let the water flow.

Hiding in the Crowd This station is kind a my answer to Oscorp's (hopefully soon-to-be-discontinued...) chemical weapons research systematized counter-agents to some of the world's most dangerous chemical agents. Course doing that analysis requires us to keep samples of said chemical agents here...

Some rocket propellant that was stolen is leaking. Drop below and Spidey will use his spider bot. Move the bot to the green chemical spills which as a bonus will lead us to the thief. At a couple points you will come up on a crowd of people. Tap Triangle to disperse the crowd with a harmless subsonic blast. The third crowd in need of dispersal will have the thief. Chase the thief down and tap R1 to web him up. With the thief captured Spidey drops in to retrieve the stolen item. Return it to the Research Station to complete the mission.

Hell's Kitchen

Snapping up Smog This is another of our air quality stations, monitoring contaminants in the surrounding atmosphere. Super important for the city and its citizens...but certain corporate overlords are less than thrilled by the prospect of their pollution output being publicly reported

There is a lot of smog in the area. The mini-map shows areas high in smog and are indicated by a green cloud. Swing or fall through the clouds to obtain a sample. After collecting 8 samples, Spidey is able to determine that the smog is coming from 2 types of vehicle and a faulty smoke stack. Move to the two cars and the smoke stack to take a picture of each (L2 to aim camera, R1 to take the picture).

Vaccinate the Fish Kinda funny to have a marine research station all the way up here, but it's got great sight lines to the river. Any health issues crop up, we can address them pretty easy through aerial dispersal...once that system comes on line, that is.

Swing down to the docks to find some nasty barrels in the water. Swing over a barrel and hold R1 and L1 to pull it out of the water and toss it away. Once the barrels are gone we can vaccinate. Check the mini-map for arts of green. Swing or web-zip over the are and press L1 to disperse the vaccine. When this area is clear we move to the next dock and repeat the process. Don't be surprised if Spidey gets wet. I repeatedly fell in the water when completing this Research Station Mission. The last step will be to move to a marker and press R3 to scan the fish to make sure we have prevented an outbreak.

Data Chain Data back-up. One of those things that's the least important aspect of a project right up until it becomes the most important. This station helps us manage overflow data from all the other stations: back up for our back up.

Spidey plans to use the ESU server to help reduce the load on the research station. This will only work if we realign the dishes. Move from tower to tower to connect the orange-red beams to the next dish. Each time you align a portion more time is added to the clock. There are a total of 8 towers to align. Once the last of the towers are in alignment we can initiate the data transfer at ESU. Drop down and you have a circuit mini-game. The video below shows the steps needed to complete the circuit.

Chemical Leak One of the hardest problems with improving air quality is identifying the source of high toxic, low-particle-count pollutants. Stuff that can make you sick from only a few grams. This station specializes in solving that exact problem, by targeting specific particulate toxins.

Chemicals are leaking out of the steam vent on the roof. Walk over and analyze the leak. Now we get to use the Spectrograph. The video below shows (after a couple tries) the solution for the analysis. Press R3 and follow the gold pipes to locate the next chemical leak. Spidey will follow the pipes to two more leaks. After the Spectrograph on the last leak site climb up the building under construction. The concrete will be perfect to detoxify the chemicals leaking on the roof. Jump into the air and hold R1 and L1 to grab the concrete bags and slam them into the ground. If you land you will be damaged by the chemicals. Repeat the process for each barrel (a total of 5). With the leaks soaked up web up the grate to prevent the problem from occurring in the future.

Pigeon Vaccine Who looks after the health of New York's pigeon population? Harry Osborn and Oscorp, that's who. Seriously though - pigeons are the number one vector for a ton of communicable diseases. This station helps us keep tabs on our winged friends before they become health risks.

The meter on the left side of the screen has a number inside. This number indicates how far you are from your target. The circle around the number provides the general direction you need to go. Once at the park swing over the three sites and press L1 to disperse the vaccine. If the green on that section of the mini-map disappears then the dispersal was a success. For it to work you will have to get some air between Spidey and the ground. There are two more locations to vaccinate. When the last section is vaccinated drop down and press R3 to scan the group of pigeons. Perfect: No Zombie Pigeons

Reboot Times Square Just installed new energy saving LED billboards throughout Times Square. They're beautiful...and insanely complicated. Regular maintenance will keep them in good working order, but Oscorp has never been great at routinely maintaining anything unless it turns a profit.

As the mission starts we get a timer set at 20 second on the left side of the screen. The goal is to swing by the screens in Times Square and shoot electric webs at them. The web shooter is already set for electric webs. As you swing hold L2 then press R1 to shoot the webs. Each screen successfully hit will add a little time to the countdown. There are 20 screens to fix all of which is marked on the mini-map.

Upper East Side

Dive and Dash New York is renowned for pristine drinking water, but it doesn't get that way without a lot of work. This station is designed to ease that burden, by monitoring smaller bodies of water with connections into the city's main waterline.

Drop down to the lake. Move to the marker and collect an algae sample. We need a tall building to jump off of. Oscorp is nearby. Swing to the top of the Oscorp building and dive off by pressing L3. As you free fall watch the meter on the left side of the screen. Once it reads a dive distance of at least 100 m begin to swing. Now climb the Oscorp building again. Dive off but this time don't begin your swing until you reach a dive distance of 250 m. Like an idiot I didn't even see the meter in the top left hand corner. In the video below I began my swing at 200 m which was decent guess. The next attempt I saw the meter and got it right. Swing over to the lake and spread the algae cure.

Upper West Side

Spider-Bot Wildlife tracking isn't glamorous, but it is important for a city of New York's size and density. You need some high-grade location triangulation to pinpoint something as small as a bird in this urban jungle.

The GPS tech in this station may help Spider-Man locate his missing spider-bot. Drop down into the park. We now are the spider-bot. Move to the marker and find the orange looking remnants of a spider bot. Follow the path to retrace the steps of the last bot. In the video below after going up the slide I lost track of my direction. Just be patient if that happens a marker will help you find your way. A pigeon will pick up the bot and fly it to its nest where we find the other bot. Spidey drops down and rescues the bots.

Lightning Rod Accurate storm tracking has been one of he brass rings of meteorology for a looooong time. The big problem is the size of the data set: weather phenomena require an enormous amount of processing power to accurately monitor. A distributed network is basically the only way to do it.

Ventilate the Problem Steam heat is the most environmentally friendly method for in-home heating. But the pressure required creates a lot of safety concerns. This station keeps an eye o things and makes sure none of the pressure in nearby units exceeds tolerance.

To prevent building explosion swing to the building at the marker and destroy the vents on the side. There are 15 vents. We have 45 seconds to eliminate all the vents. When you destroy a vent more time is added. As Spidey swings by event hold L2 and tap R1 to aim and shoot at the vent. When all the vents are destroyed climb to the top and turn the valve to end the mission

Shaking Harlem Mom set this one up: seismic monitoring station, trained on the fault line running beneath Central Park. Really hoping Oscorp doesn't decide to axe this station. Have kind of a sentimental attachment to it.

Swing off the building and hold Square and X to perform a ground strike. The impact will create a shock wave revealing the location of the pressure trouble spot. Hit Circle to exit the satellite view then swing to a trouble spot. If you lose your way (or the marker) you can ground pound again to find the trouble spot. There are three high pressure spots that need relieved. When you arrive at one do another ground pound to relieve the pressure. Once all three spots are fixed the mission is complete. This video has a funny moment. As I was swing to the last of the three high pressure spots I decided to ground strike in front of a moving elevated train and it killed Spider-Man. It was totally by chance and I didn't even realize what had happened. I had to restart by fixing all three sites again. I left the "blooper" just because.

Visibly Shaken Don't feel super awesome about his one: cloaking tech intended for military application. We're using armed drones to test it. This was my one concession to Dad - hopefully this'll convince him to relax about funding the other stations...

The drones are covered in an orange-red orb. In order to get close to them we have to be cloaked. Pressing Triangle during this mission will turn Spider-Man invisible to the drones. The only problem is the cloaking system interferes with his web gadgets. We need to destroy the dysfunctional drones. The goal is to get close to the drones while cloaked and press R1 to destroy it. Practice with the first one which should be easy. Turn invisible (Triangle) walk through the orange orb and hit R1. Some of the later ones are in are so you will have to swing or web-zip, hit triangle quickly and tap R1 as you pass through the orb around the drone. Twelve drones are flying around all marked on your mini-map.

Duplicant

Research Station operated by Duplicants will produce Novice Research Points necessary to unlock new technologies . It has to be supplied with Dirt to function.

Research Station is available at the start of the game and is needed for every research node in the game.

  • 2 Mechanics

Usage [ | ]

Research Station is mandatory to progress deeper on the tech tree. It is usually built early and used constantly as most of the researches in the first row are very useful. Multiple Research Stations can work on the same Research Task at the same time, however doing that early on is very likely to lock the entire colony into researching, as it not only needs operating duplicants but also other ones delivering Dirt .

Duplicants with high Science attribute are the most useful on the Research Station. At the start of the game, picking Duplicant with the highest Science possible regardless of their Decor expectation is recommended as increasing Decor near the Research Station is easy (by placing it near the Printing Pod for example, it also will provide lit workspace bonus).

Using Duplicants with low Science can still be a strategy, and the increase in this stat they might get by researching will help them level up faster later on.

A Duplicant with high research skill will automatically replace another Duplicant with low research skill at Research Station.

Mechanics [ | ]

The Research Station uses 50 kg of Dirt to produce a research point. Its base material consumption rate is 3333.3… g/s. Dividing 50 kg with the consumption rate gives 15 s per research point produced in the base case where a Duplicant with 0 science works at an unlit Research Station outside a Laboratory room.

{\displaystyle {\dot {m}}}

where Lit and Lab is 1 if the respective buff is applied and 0 if not.

The Duplicant's science attribute includes buffs and debuffs from Skills , traits and other states.

Note, that even if the consumption rate should be lower based on the equation due to the Duplicant's negative skill (for example because of Zombie Spores ), the minimum value is 2777.5 g/s.

As shown, skill points, Lit Workspace and the room buff only contribute a 13.3%, 5% and 3.3% additive bonus as opposed to the usual 40%, 15% and 10% they do with other buildings. Another way to formulate the previous equation, which is conceptually closer (but is mathematically equivalent) to how the game calculates it uses a base rate of 1111.1… g/s and applies a hidden 200% buff to the Research Station:

{\displaystyle {\dot {m}}=1111.{\overline {1}}{\frac {g}{s}}\cdot (1+2+0.4\cdot S+0.15\cdot Lit+0.1\cdot Lab)}

A Duplicant with a high, but practically achievable science attribute of 30 at an ideally situated Research Station would produce a point every 3 seconds.

Duplicants are considered to be on the bottom-left tile of the structure for purposes such as Decor and Lit Workspace.

If multiple Research Stations are working on a research and one of them finishes the last Novice Research needed, all other Novice Research production will be halted, however they can be resumed and used for another research task later.

Statement from President Joe   Biden on Iran’s Attacks against the State of   Israel

Earlier today, Iran—and its proxies operating out of Yemen, Syria and Iraq—launched an unprecedented air attack against military facilities in Israel. I condemn these attacks in the strongest possible terms.

At my direction, to support the defense of Israel, the U.S. military moved aircraft and ballistic missile defense destroyers to the region over the course of the past week.  Thanks to these deployments and the extraordinary skill of our servicemembers, we helped Israel take down nearly all of the incoming drones and missiles.

I’ve just spoken with Prime Minister Netanyahu to reaffirm America’s ironclad commitment to the security of Israel.  I told him that Israel demonstrated a remarkable capacity to defend against and defeat even unprecedented attacks – sending a clear message to its foes that they cannot effectively threaten the security of Israel.

Tomorrow, I will convene my fellow G7 leaders to coordinate a united diplomatic response to Iran’s brazen attack.  My team will engage with their counterparts across the region.  And we will stay in close touch with Israel’s leaders.  And while we have not seen attacks on our forces or facilities today, we will remain vigilant to all threats and will not hesitate to take all necessary action to protect our people.

Five teenagers charged over alleged murder after fatal stabbing in Sydney's west

Four teenagers have been charged with murder after two young brothers were stabbed in Sydney's west on Friday.

A fifth teenager, aged 16, has also been charged over his role in the alleged murder, and will face Parramatta children's court today along with two 15-year-olds.

The stabbing occurred near a school on Power Street in Doonside about 3:40pm on Friday, after a fight on a bus, according to NSW Police.

Two teenagers, aged 18 and 19, were then driven to Blacktown Police Station by a family friend.

Police officers treated their injuries before paramedics arrived, but the 18-year-old died outside the station.

The 19-year-old was taken to Westmead Hospital where he underwent surgery and has since been discharged.

On Friday afternoon a 16-year-old was arrested near the scene and taken to Mount Druitt Police Station where he was charged with murder.

He attended court on Saturday but was refused bail.

Blacktown PAC Commander Superintendent Paul Glinn said the fight between the teenagers began on public transport.

"A bus has gone to the area to a bus stop, a number of youths have got off that bus and a melee has taken place with some other youths," Superintendent Glinn said on Friday.

Superintendent Glinn said the injured boys were picked up by a family friend.

"[They] had the intent of taking them somewhere to get medical treatment, and then on route to a hospital has come to the police station [Blacktown] to seek help."

Police are investigating whether the stabbing was related to youth crime rivalries.

Over the weekend a 17-year-old was charged with accessory after the fact to murder, and accessory after the fact to causing grievous bodily harm with intent to murder.

Another three boys, two aged 15, and one aged 16, were arrested after attending Blacktown Police Station about midnight last night.

They have each been charged with murder, and causing grievous bodily harm with intent to murder.

The three teenagers have been refused bail to appear before Parramatta children's court today.

Morning Rundown: Tensions high after USC cancels Muslim valedictorian's speech, Trump bemoans jury selection, and elite girls' school teacher accused of preying on students

Trump's hush money trial begins Monday. Here's what to expect.

Donald Trump will become the first former president to stand trial in a criminal case next week — and he'll do so against the backdrop of a presidential campaign in which he's the presumptive Republican nominee.

Jury selection begins Monday in New York City, and the trial is expected to last six to eight weeks.

Here's a look at what you need to know and what's expected to happen.

How long is jury selection expected to last?

Jury selection is expected to last one to two weeks. Starting Monday, prosecutors and lawyers for Trump will seek to whittle a pool of potentially hundreds of people to 12 jurors and six alternates. Each juror will answer 42 questions designed to discern whether they can be impartial about the polarizing former president. Questions include inquiries about what news sources they follow and whether they've ever attended any Trump rallies or protests. The jurors will be anonymous, meaning their identities will be withheld from the public because of security concerns.

A criminal trial involving Trump's company before the same judge in 2022 took a week to select 12 jurors and five alternates.

What is Trump charged with?

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg charged Trump with 34 counts of first-degree falsifying business records, a low-level felony. Trump faces a maximum of four years behind bars if he’s convicted.

What is the prosecution alleging?

Prosecutors allege Trump “repeatedly and fraudulently falsified New York business records to conceal criminal conduct that hid damaging information from the voting public during the 2016 presidential election.”

At the heart of the case are allegations of various sex scandals that prosecutors say Trump tried to suppress with the help of his lawyer Michael Cohen and top executives in charge of the National Enquirer. In the final days of the election, Cohen paid $130,000 to one of the women, adult film star Stormy Daniels, to keep silent about her claim she'd had a sexual encounter with Trump in 2006. Trump has denied the allegation.

After he was elected, Trump reimbursed Cohen through a series of checks from his trust that were processed through the Trump Organization and labeled as payments "for legal services rendered" — a claim the DA says was false.

What is Trump’s defense?

Trump has maintained he didn’t do anything wrong, and while he has acknowledged reimbursing Cohen, he has said he didn’t know details about what Cohen was doing.

His lawyers are likely to target Cohen on the witness stand by painting him as a liar who loathes the former president and whose testimony shouldn’t be believed. They’re likely to be aggressive with Daniels, as well, and they’re expected to focus on comments she has made mocking Trump in an effort to portray her as biased and untrustworthy.

Who will testify for the prosecution?

Cohen, who says Trump directed him to make the payment to Daniels, is expected to be a key witness, as is Daniels. Trump's attorneys sought to bar both from testifying, but Judge Juan Merchan gave both the green light to take the stand. Daniels' former attorney Keith Davidson is likely to testify about his negotiations over the payment, a source with direct knowledge of the situation said.

Also expected to testify is Karen McDougal, a former Playboy model who said she had an affair with Trump, a claim he denies. She received money from the Enquirer to keep quiet about her allegations in what prosecutors said was part of a "catch and kill" scheme designed to keep a lid on potential Trump scandals.

David Pecker, a Trump ally who was the CEO of Enquirer publisher AMI at the time, is also expected to be called, the source said. Dylan Howard, another former AMI executive involved in the discussions with Trump and Cohen, may also testify.

Former White House communications director Hope Hicks — who prosecutors have said was involved in phone calls among Trump, Cohen and AMI — and former Trump assistant Madeleine Westerhout are also likely to take the stand, the source said.

Jurors are also expected to hear from Jeffrey McConney, the former controller for the Trump Organization, and Deborah Tarasoff, a former accounts payable supervisor at the company, the source said.

Who will testify in Trump's defense?

Court filings show Trump plans to call Bradley A. Smith, a former Federal Election Commission chair who will testify about the FEC and its function, laws it's responsible for enforcing and definitions and terms that relate to the case. The judge ruled he won’t be allowed to offer his opinion about whether Trump's actions violated election law, as Trump had hoped he would.

Trump, who is the only person who can directly rebut some of Cohen's claims, said Friday that he would "absolutely" testify in the trial. He is not required to take the stand.

Will Trump have to be in court every day?

Unlike the New York civil fraud and E. Jean Carroll defamation trials, the DA's case is criminal, so Trump is required to be in court every day to participate in his defense. The trial is off on Wednesdays, but Trump will have to be in court for the four other days of the court week. The trial days are expected to last from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Trump has suggested he might do campaign events at night after having attended court during the day.

How many jurors' votes are needed for a conviction or an acquittal?

To reach a verdict, all 12 jurors must agree on whether Trump is guilty or not guilty of a specific charge.

Day 1 of Trump New York hush money trial

By Kara Scannell , Jeremy Herb , Maureen Chowdhury , Kaanita Iyer , Aditi Sangal and Elise Hammond , CNN

Inside the first day of Trump's trial in Manhattan criminal court

From CNN's Jeremy Herb

Donald Trump has been inside a half-dozen courthouses over the past year, but he had a new experience walking into a  downtown Manhattan courtroom Monday morning : a half-empty room.

The former president slowly walked through the cavernous and dingy courtroom, past six empty rows of benches – set aside for prospective jurors – giving a quick glance to the six reporters sitting in the back row before sauntering to the front of the room and taking his seat at the defense table.

The vacant rows served as a reminder to Trump that he’s in a different setting now that he’s a criminal defendant for the first time. By the afternoon, the courtroom was packed full with 96 jurors – some of whom may be on the jury who will hear the hush money trial against the Republican presumptive presidential nominee.

Trump only spoke three times during Monday’s session, acknowledging to the judge he understood his rights as a criminal defendant. Throughout the day Trump often engaged with his attorneys, whispering to them and sharing notes as they debated motions with the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.

Trump also sat back at times and closed his eyes as  Judge Juan Merchan  slogged through the jury pool and asked up to 42 questions of each prospective juror.

While Trump didn’t have a platform inside the courtroom, he didn’t take long to make his feelings known when he left for the day, speaking to the camera right outside the courtroom after pulling out his iPhone from his suit pocket and handing it to an aide.

“It looks like the judge does not allow me to escape this scam. It’s a scam,” Trump said, complaining that the judge said he could not attend next week’s Supreme Court arguments on presidential immunity and his son’s graduation, though Merchan  did not rule one way or the other  on whether Trump would be excused for the graduation.

Here are the key takeaways from the first day of the Trump hush money trial

From CNN's Jeremy Herb, Kara Scannell and Kaanita Iyer

Former President Donald Trump appears with his legal team Todd Blanch and Emil Bove before the start of his trial in Manhattan Criminal Court on Monday, April 15.

The opening day of the first criminal trial of former President Donald Trump hit home the reality that the presumptive Republican nominee for president will be sitting in a Manhattan courtroom as a defendant four days a week.

Here are the key takeaways from day one of “The People of the State of New York vs Donald Trump.”

The difficulty in picking a jury: Merchan brought in 96 New Yorkers as prospective jurors. More than half were quickly dismissed because they said they did not think they could be fair and impartial. Among the other nine potential jurors who were questioned, none said they had read any books written by either Trump or Michael Cohen. And none had said they’d worked or volunteered for Trump.

Defense wants to slow things down: Sources told CNN that there will likely be many objections and sidebars during the trial because the defense is completely focused on preserving every issue for appeal. These tactics fit the larger Trump legal strategy, which included months of appeals to delay the start of the trial, which was successful on separate grounds. The defense now hopes legal proceedings, which are expected to last six to eight weeks, move at a slow pace with the 2024 election just months away.

Members of the media gather outside of Manhattan Criminal Court on Monday morning.

Trump accused of violating gag order: Prosecutors asked Judge Juan Merchan to sanction Trump and fine him for violating the gag order prohibiting him from talking about witnesses in the case, the DA’s office or court staff. Merchan scheduled a hearing on the district attorney’s motion for next Tuesday.

“Access Hollywood” tape can’t be played, but actress can testify: Merchan sided with prosecutors in allowing Karen McDougal, an actress and model who alleged she also had an affair with Trump, to testify. Prosecutors can also introduce National Enquirer stories slamming Trump’s opponents as evidence. Trump has denied the affair. A key victory for Trump, meanwhile, was Merchan's ruling that the infamous “Access Hollywood” tape can’t be played in court, saying it was prejudicial. Prosecutors also will not be allowed to bring up other sexual assault allegations against Trump that surfaced after the “Access Hollywood tape” was made public in October 2016.

Trump is also facing charges in 3 other criminal cases

From CNN’s Devan Cole, Amy O'Kruk and Curt Merrill

Former President Donald Trump walks outside the courtroom on the day of a court hearing on charges of falsifying business records to cover up a hush money payment to a porn star before the 2016 election, in New York State Supreme Court in February.

The first criminal trial against former President Donald Trump is underway in New York.

He has pleaded not guilty to charges related to his alleged role in a hush money payment scheme and cover-up involving adult film star Stormy Daniels that dates to the 2016 presidential election.

It is one of  four criminal cases  Trump faces, while he also juggles being the Republican presumptive nominee for president. The former president is now facing at least  88 charges  over the four criminal indictments in Georgia, New York, Washington, DC, and Florida. Trump has pleaded not guilty to every charge in these cases.

Here's a recap of each case:

  • Hush money:  Trump was first indicted in March 2023 by the Manhattan district attorney on state charges related to a hush-money payment to an adult-film star in 2016. Prosecutors allege Trump was a part of an illegal conspiracy to  undermine  the integrity of the 2016 election. Further, they allege he was part of an unlawful plan to suppress negative information, including the $130,000 payment.
  • Classified documents:  Trump was indicted in June 2023 by a federal grand jury in Miami for taking classified national defense documents from the White House after he left office and resisting the government’s attempts to retrieve the materials. The National Archives said in early 2022 that at least 15 boxes of White House records were recovered from the estate, including   some that were classified . The charges were brought by special counsel Jack Smith.
  • Federal election interference:  Smith separately charged the former president last August with four crimes over his efforts to reverse the 2020 election results. The indictment alleges Trump and a co-conspirator "attempted to exploit the violence and chaos at the Capitol by calling lawmakers to convince them ... to delay the certification" of the election. That case is currently on hold as the Supreme Court weighs Trump’s claims of presidential immunity in the matter.
  • Fulton County:  State prosecutors in Georgia brought a similar election subversion case against Trump and others. An Atlanta-based grand jury on August 14, 2023, indicted Trump and 18 others on state charges stemming from their alleged efforts to overturn the former president’s 2020 electoral defeat. A trial date has not yet been set in that case.

Former federal judge explains why Trump faces felony charges in hush money case

From CNN's Elise Hammond

Former President Donald Trump is facing felony charges in the hush money trial — not misdemeanors — because of the allegation of underlying crimes, a former federal judge explained Monday.

Trump is charged with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in the first degree.

“If you file these false business records in furtherance of another crime then it can be a felony and that's what's unusual here,” said Shira Scheindlin, a former US District Court judge.

That means that prosecutors need to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Trump falsified business records with the intent to commit or conceal another crime — but they don’t have to prove that Trump committed that crime.

Prosecutors allege Trump was trying to hide the reimbursement of hush money payments that were made to influence the election outcome. They also allege tax fraud, according to the indictment .

“The jury has to just find that the intent of filing the false business records or making the false business records was to further the underlying crimes and then it becomes a felony,” Scheindlin said.

CNN's Kara Scannell and Lauren del Valle contributed reporting to this post.

By the numbers: Where we stand with jury selection

From CNN's Jeremy Herb, Kara Scannell and Laura Dolan

The jury of  12 , along with  six  alternates, will be chosen from hundreds of New Yorkers after an  exhaustive selection process  that could stretch beyond the first week of the trial.

Court officials expect about  500  new jurors to appear each day for the selection process. About 100 prospective jurors at a time will be brought into Judge Juan Merchan’s courtroom to be vetted.

Here is the breakdown of the first day of jury selection:

  • Just after 2:30 p.m.,  96 prospective jurors were brought in for questioning and sworn in.
  • At least 50 were immediately excused after saying they could not be fair and impartial.
  • At least nine more prospective jurors were excused after raising their hand when asked whether they could not serve for any other reason. Those reasons were not disclosed.

Upon questioning:

  • Merchan called 18 New Yorkers to the jury box for questioning.
  • Ten were questioned by the end of the day. One person  was dismissed  after she said she had firmly held beliefs about Trump and another person was chosen for the jury box. Merchan  excused another juror  who said his child was getting married on June 8.

What's next: Around 32 potential jurors remained after Monday's session, according to a pool reporter in the courtroom. They included those who were already questioned and not excused along with those who still face questioning by Merchan on Tuesday. Another panel of potential jurors will be brought in after the first group is completed, the judge said.

The post was updated with the details on how many jurors remained after Monday's session.

Fact Check: Trump falsely claims judge won't let him attend son’s high school graduation next month

From CNN’s Marshall Cohen

After leaving court on Monday, former President Donald Trump repeatedly suggested that Judge Juan Merchan would prevent him from attending his son’s high school graduation in May.

“It looks like the judge will not let me go to the graduation of my son,” Trump said, before lamenting “that I can’t go to my son’s graduation.”

Trump’s son Eric Trump ratcheted up the rhetoric by tweeting, “Judge Merchan is truly heartless in not letting a father attend his son’s graduation.”

Facts First:  The judge hasn’t ruled yet on Trump’s request to be excused from court so he can attend Barron Trump’s high school graduation.

Criminal defendants like Donald Trump are typically required to attend their case proceedings in person. Trump’s lawyers asked Merchan on Monday about whether their client could be excused for some events, including the graduation and the upcoming arguments in front of the US Supreme Court in one of Trump’s other criminal cases.

While Merchan didn’t let Trump attend next week's Supreme Court hearing – because Trump has to be in New York for the trial — he said it was too early to rule on the graduation.

Trump appeared to fall asleep during some moments of trial, New York Times' Maggie Haberman says

Former President Donald Trump appeared to fall asleep during the first day of the hush money trial , according to a New York Times reporter who was at the courthouse.

In one moment, his jaw kept falling onto his chest and he didn’t appear to pay attention to a note his lawyer passed him, New York Times senior political correspondent Maggie Haberman said.

“He appeared to be asleep. Repeatedly his head would fall down,” she told CNN.

The moment happened before jury selection began on Monday afternoon. According to the pool reporters inside the courtroom, Trump was leaning back in his chair with his arms folded and his eyes appeared to be closed for several minutes at a time.

Trump's team asked whether he could attend SCOTUS arguments next week. The judge said see you "here next week"

Judge Juan Merchan told Donald Trump's team he will see them next week when asked about the possibility of changing the schedule so the former president could attend Supreme Court arguments April 25.

Trump attorney Todd Blanche noted the former president "very much" wants to attend the arguments over whether  the former president may claim immunity  in special counsel Jack Smith’s election subversion case.

Prosecutor Josh Steinglass said there's no obligation that the defendant has to be present at the Supreme Court arguments, opposing the request.

"Your client is a criminal defendant," Merchan told Blanche. "He's required to be here" and not at the Supreme Court.

Merchan said he will see him "here next week."

Trump rails against hush money case after first day of trial

Former President Donald Trump speaks to the press after the first day of jury selection for the criminal case against him.

Former President Donald Trump railed against the criminal case against him in New York after the first day of jury selection on Monday. He called it a “scam trial” and a “political witch-hunt” in remarks outside the courtroom.

Trump was charged last year with  34 felony counts  of falsifying business records for his alleged role in a hush-money scheme  before the 2016 election . Trump has pleaded not guilty.

On Monday, Trump complained that he would not be able to attend his son's graduation from high school because of the trial.

The judge said he will not yet rule on Trump's request to skip the trial on May 17 for him to attend his son’s high school graduation. “It really depends on if we are on time and where we are in the trial,” Judge Juan Merchan said.

2024 WNBA Draft results: Tracker, order, grades with Caitlin Clark taken by Fever, Angel Reese heading to Sky

Cameron brink, kamilla cardoso and rickea jackson rounded out the lottery behind clark.

The star-studded 2024 WNBA Draft tipped off in style Monday, as the Indiana Fever selected Iowa superstar and back-to-back Naismith Player of the Year Caitlin Clark with the No. 1 overall pick . Clark will pair with former South Carolina star Aliyah Boston, who the Fever took at No. 1 last year.

Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Cameron Brink was the No. 2 pick, and she's heading south from Stanford to Los Angeles to join the Sparks. There, she'll team up with Rickea Jackson from Tennessee, whom the Sparks add with their second lottery pick at No. 4 overall.

The SEC championship game was headlined by the post battle between Kamilla Cardoso and Angel Reese. Now, just a few weeks later, the two stars are teammates after the Chicago Sky selected them at No. 3 and 7, respectively.

Also in the first round, the Dallas Wings took Ohio State's Jacy Sheldon with the No. 5 overall pick, while UConn forward Aaliyah Edwards was selected sixth by the Washington Mystics, becoming the 27th Husky to be selected in the first round of the WNBA Draft.

Some notable players drafted outside of the first round include Nika Muhl (No. 14 to the Storm), Dyaisha Fair (No. 16 to the Aces), Elizabeth Kitley (No. 24 to the Aces) and Charisma Osborne (No. 25 to the Mercury). Later in the night, the Aces took Jackson State's Angel Jackson with the No. 36 pick, and with that another draft is in the books.

While the draft is over, anticipation for the forthcoming WNBA season is only rising, and fans can help ease the wait by purchasing  Clark's Fever jersey .

Angel Jackson closes out the show

Jackson State center Angel Jackson went No. 36 overall to the Washington Mystics, and with that the 2024 WNBA Draft is officially over. She was a two-time SWAC Defensive Player of the Year who averaged nearly three blocks per game for the Tigers as she led them to the NCAA Tournament this season.

Osborne off the board to Phoenix

Charisma Osborne's long wait is over. She was the last player left in the green room and is finally off the board at No. 25 overall to the Phoenix Mercury. While no one wants to drop that far, the Mercury is a great landing spot for Osborne, as she has a real chance to make that roster. This is a steal for the Mercury in the third round

Aces take Kate Martin

Kate Martin admitted she was at the draft mainly to support her college teammate Caitlin Clark, but she was also hopeful to hear her name called. She did in the middle of the second round, when the Aces selected her with the No. 18 overall. It may be an uphill battle for her to make the roster, but she works had and is a versatile player.

Muhl goes to the Storm

Nika Muhl is finally off the board. The UConn star dropped out of the first round, which was great news for the Storm, who did not have a pick until No. 14 overall. Muhl is a floor general and a dogged defender who can knock down open shots and profiles as a long-term back-up point guard. Nice get for the Storm here
