The moto tag is finally in stock, my setup for a better file browsing experience on windows, quick links, self-grading quiz and useful features, set up the quiz in microsoft forms, add questions to your quiz, make the quiz self-grading, preview your quiz, view the responses.

Using Microsoft Forms to create a quiz gives you a convenient way to share that quiz with others via the web. If you want to make grading the quiz easy, create a self-grading, or auto-grading, quiz.

You know that quizzes are good tools for testing more than just students in school . You can use a quiz at work for trainees or employees, but also for fun occasions like a bridal shower or family night game. This makes the auto-grading quiz option in Microsoft Forms even handier.

A self-grading quiz allows the test taker to see their correct and incorrect answers after they submit the quiz. They simply select "View Results" to see the score and answers.

While not required, you can assign a point value to each question which is helpful if you are assigning a letter grade based on the score.

In addition, you can include feedback for specific answers on choice questions. This is useful for commonly incorrect answers to questions because you can explain further why an answer is wrong.

We'll walk through the point and feedback features when creating the questions below.

You can set up a new quiz or edit an existing quiz to grade itself, and you can use a blank quiz or one of the Microsoft Forms templates.

Visit Microsoft Forms and sign in with your Microsoft account. Select "New Quiz" at the top of the main page or use the More Templates link to select a quiz template.

Give your quiz a name, a description, and optionally a theme using the button in the top right.

When you're ready to add the quiz questions, choose Add New and pick the question type. You can use Choice, Text, Rating, Date, Ranking, Likert, and Net Promoter question types, although the first two types are the most common for quizzes.

Text Questions

You'll likely want to start with basic questions such as first and last name or email address. You can use the Text question type for these.

Choose Text, enter the Question, and turn on the toggle for Required if you wish.

For Text questions, you can assign a value in the Points box. Although you likely won't do this for questions like first name or last name, you may for other Text questions on your quiz.

Text questions do not have a feedback option because the quiz taker types their answer rather than selecting one from a list.

Choice Questions

For multiple choice, pick the Choice question type. Enter the question and then each of the answers. You can use this for True or False questions or those with several possible answers. If you want to allow more than one answer to the question, turn on the toggle for Multiple Answers.

Be sure to mark the checkmark next to the correct answer(s).

Google Forms: Using Forms with Google Classroom

Lesson 6: using forms with google classroom.

/en/google-forms/organizing-and-analyzing-responses/content/

Google Forms is typically used to create surveys, sign-ups, feedback forms, and more. It also can be used to create quizzes that you can easily incorporate into Google Classroom. There's a variety of question types you can use to make your own quizzes, and they feature an array of customizable settings .

Watch the video below to learn more about creating and sending forms to your students using Google Classroom.

Creating a quiz

To create a quiz, you'll first need to create a basic form. We go over this in greater detail in our lesson on creating simple forms , but we'll cover some of the basics below.

Navigate to the Google Forms homepage , then click the Blank icon.

creating a blank form

Before writing questions and answers for your quiz, you'll need to make some changes to the form's settings. Click the Settings  icon in the top-right corner.

clicking the settings icon

Click the Quizzes tab and toggle the Make this a quiz switch. Turning this on will make several quiz options available that allow you to choose how your students will interact with your quiz.

enabling the Make This a Quiz toggle

Click the buttons in the interactive below to learn more about the various quiz settings.

quiz settings interactive

Release Grade Immediately

With this option, students will immediately receive their grade upon completion of the quiz. You may want to use this option if your quiz is entirely multiple choice.

Release Grade Later

This option allows you to manually review each quiz before releasing grades to students. This can be helpful for quizzes that feature questions involving a lot of typed responses.

Missed Questions

This allows students to view the questions they missed after completing the quiz.

Correct Answers

This allows students to view the correct answers to questions after receiving their grades.

Point Values

Students will be able to see the total points for the quiz and how many points they earned for each question.

Once you've chosen your desired settings, click Save . You can then name your quiz and start writing your questions. For more information on creating form questions, review our lesson on creating simple forms .

Selecting correct answers for your questions

For each question on your quiz, you'll need to define the correct answers. To do this, click Answer Key .

clicking answer key link

This screen will appear differently depending on the question type you've chosen. Let's take a look at how to choose correct answers for several popular types of questions:

selecting the correct answer for a multiple-choice question

  • Paragraph questions don't offer the ability to add correct answers. Because they're longer and require more analysis, you'll need to read each individually and grade them on your own.

After choosing the correct answers, select how many points you'd like the question to be worth using the points field.

setting a question to be worth 10 points

You also have the option of using answer feedback . This gives students feedback on certain questions, depending on whether they chose the correct answer. Click  Add answer feedback and type the messages you'd like to appear for correct or incorrect answers.

showing where to click to add answer feedback

Each question has a Required toggle switch. If you want students to answer the question, toggle on Required. A red asterisk will appear next to the quiz question to let them know that it is mandatory. If you want students to have the choice of answering the question, toggle off Required.

requiring the question

Once you're satisfied with the question, you can preview it and give it a try to make sure everything's correct. To do this, simply click the Preview icon in the top-right corner.

clicking the preview icon

Adding sections to your quiz

Depending on the number of questions, you may want to separate your quiz into multiple sections . This will make it so that your questions are broken up across several pages instead of having them all appear on one page.

To do this, simply click the Add section icon in the toolbar on the side.

clicking Add Section button

You can add questions to these sections by following the same instructions listed above. You can also move questions to other sections by dragging and dropping them using the icon shown below.

dragging the handle for a question

Adding quizzes to classes

Once you've finished creating your quiz, you'll need to bring it over to your class. Much like how you can attach documents, links, and videos to your assignments, you can attach forms.

When creating an assignment, click the Google Drive icon in the lower-left corner.

clicking the Google Drive icon in an assignment

Locate and select the quiz you've created, then click Add .

clicking the Add button to add a quiz

After you've sent the assignment with the quiz attached, your students will be able to complete it. You can access responses the same way you would with any Google Form.

Create a quiz assignment

This article is for teachers with a Google Workspace for Education account. If you don't know your Google Workspace account, ask your administrator.

You can create a quiz assignment in Classroom where students complete and submit a Google Forms quiz. You can assign the quiz assignment to one or more classes or to individual students, schedule it to post later, add a due date and time, and add attachments.

Google Forms can automatically grade the quiz and you can import the grades into Classroom. Students can see their grades immediately or after you review their answers. You can also lock a quiz on Chromebooks managed by your school.

Open all   |   Close all

Create and edit quiz assignments

Step 1: create the assignment .

Go to classroom.google.com  and click Sign In.

Sign in with your Google Account. For example,  [email protected] or [email protected] .  Learn more .

and then

  • Enter the title and any instructions.

using forms assignment quizlet

Step 2: Set up your quiz in Google Forms

When you create a quiz assignment, Classroom creates a blank quiz using Google Forms and attaches the form to the assignment.

In the assignment, click the Forms quiz attachment and set up your quiz. You can let students see their grade immediately after they submit their answers. If you change the name of the quiz in Google Drive, the name is updated in Classroom.

For details, go to Create & grade quizzes with Google Forms .

If students are using Chromebooks managed by your school, you can lock the Chromebook while they take a quiz. When the Chromebook is locked, students can’t open other browser tabs. You’ll get an email if a student exits the Forms quiz and then reopens it. Unmanaged devices can’t access the Forms quiz.

Accessibility features

Students can use the following accessibility features when a Chromebook is locked:

  • ChromeVox (text-to-speech)
  • High-contrast mode
  • Full-screen and docked magnifier

If you can't find an accessibility feature, use its shortcut.

Import quiz grades from Forms to Classroom

To import grades:

  • The quiz must be the only attachment on the assignment.
  • Students are limited to one response and must be in the same domain as the teacher.
  • The form must collect student email addresses.

If you change any of these settings or edit the assignment after you save or post it, you might not be able to import grades.

Tip : If you attach a form as a link in Classroom, you can't import student grades.

When you import grades, all grades are imported. You can’t select some grades to import. When you import the grades, the import overrides any current grades for the assignment. Therefore, if the Forms quiz is only one part of an assignment, import the quiz grades first.

Note: If you don’t see Import grades , your form wasn’t set up as a quiz or you didn’t turn on Grade importing when you created the assignment.

  • Click Import .

Classroom enters grades for each student. If you didn’t assign points, the assignment is labeled ungraded.

See student answers and return grades

To see student answers:

  • On the quiz assignment, click the quiz attachment.

  • On the left, select the students you want to return grades to.
