Let’s take a look…

Paragraph on How I Spent My Weekend in 100 Words

My weekend was fun! I went to the park with my family. We played catch, ran around, and enjoyed the sunshine. We also had a yummy picnic. Mom made sandwiches for us and dad bought ice cream. After that, we flew our kites high in the sky. I saw lots of dogs, birds, and even a squirrel in the park. At home, I watched my favorite cartoon and played with my toys. Before bedtime, I read a storybook. My weekend was full of joy and I can’t wait for the next one to come.

Paragraph on How I Spent My Weekend in 200 Words

Last weekend, I had lots of fun. On Saturday morning, I got up early and went to the park with my family. We played catch, had a picnic with yummy sandwiches and fruit, and laughed a lot. After that, we visited the zoo where I saw many animals like lions, elephants, and monkeys. I loved watching the monkeys play and jump around. In the afternoon, I helped my mother bake a chocolate cake. It smelled so good and tasted even better! On Sunday, I played a soccer game with my friends. We ran around, kicked the ball, and I even scored a goal. After the game, we were all very tired but happy. I spent the rest of the day reading my favorite comic books and playing with my dog. In the evening, my dad helped me with my homework. We finished it together and then watched a funny movie on TV. Before going to bed, I thought about my weekend. It was full of fun, games, and laughter. I can’t wait for the next one to come! It was a weekend well spent.

Paragraph on How I Spent My Weekend in 250 Words

This weekend was one of the most enjoyable ones I’ve had in a long time. On Saturday morning, I woke up early and had a delicious breakfast of fluffy pancakes and fresh orange juice. After breakfast, I decided to take my dog, Charlie, for a long walk in the nearby park. The park was full of people enjoying the sunny weather and Charlie had a great time playing with other dogs. Later in the day, I spent some time reading my favorite book, ‘Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets’. It’s always fun to spend time in the magical world of Hogwarts. In the evening, I helped my dad in the garden. We planted some new flowers and watered the plants. It felt good to be connected with nature. On Sunday, my family decided to go on a picnic. We packed a basket full of sandwiches, fruits, and cookies, and went to a beautiful spot near a lake. We had a lot of fun playing games, eating, and laughing together. I even tried my hand at fishing, although I didn’t catch anything. In the evening, we returned home tired but happy. Before going to bed, I spent some time doing my homework. Although it was not as fun as the rest of the weekend, it felt good to finish my work on time. Overall, this weekend was filled with joy, relaxation, and a bit of work. It was a perfect balance of everything I love.

How Do You Spend Your Weekends? IELTS Speaking (10 Example Answers)

You might be asked about your weekends in part one of your IELTS Speaking test. A common question would be, “How do you spend your weekends?” or “What do you usually do on weekends?”

At the Weekend vs On the Weekend

In the US, we usually say ‘on the weekend’ and in the UK we usually say ‘at the weekend.’

What You Can Talk About

Simply explain what you usually do at the weekends. It doesn’t have to be very exciting or interesting. You might mention that you:

Tip: Use Frequency Phrases

This kind of question is a good opportunity to talk about frequency (how often you do something) and use some interesting frequency words or phrases.

To talk about how often you do something, you can say:

Keep It Simple and Fluent

In part one, there’s no need to try very hard to use advanced vocabulary and grammar.

This means trying to be fluent . And it’s easier to be fluent if you don’t slow down while trying to think of clever vocabulary.

In part two, you will have more time to think about your answer. So save your advanced vocabulary for then.

Use the Three-Step YES Method

To help you give the right kind of part-one answer, follow the three-step YES Method. Just say:

Example Answers

Here are 10 good example answers to this question. Read them and think of ideas for your own answer.

Chores and Errands

Meet friends.

2. I’m so busy during the week that I only really have a chance to meet my friends on the weekend. We usually play poker on Saturday night, and sometimes we have a big dinner together as well.

3. I love to stay in shape, so at the weekend I wake up early and go jogging, the same as I do on weekdays. I also go to the gym for yoga classes and on Sunday afternoon I play tennis with my friends, more often than not.

4. I work in a language school, so I have unusual working hours. Saturday and Sunday are actually my busiest days for work. My days off are usually Tuesday and Wednesday. That’s when I relax and do leisure activities.

5. My teachers give me so much homework, which I have to finish over the weekend. If I do it really quickly, then I usually have some free time to hang out with my friends.

Take Kids to the Park

6. I’m in the habit of taking my kids to the park on the weekend if the weather’s nice. I’m very busy during the week, so the weekend is the only chance I get to spend quality time with them.

English Classes

8. These days, I spend my weekends studying English. I attend at least four classes each weekend, and also do plenty of English exercises by myself at home.

9. Usually, I try to visit an interesting place on the weekend with my family, like a museum or famous sight or a beautiful garden. And every now and then, we go on a day trip to another city nearby.

Nothing Much

Now it’s your turn to try.

Turn on the recorder on your phone and ask out loud, “How do you spend your weekends?” or “What do you usually do on weekends?”

Answer as quickly and fluently as you can. Use the three-step YES Method.

Then do it again, and again, and again.

This is a great way to prepare yourself for any part-one question in your IELTS Speaking test.

Conquering “How Do You Usually Spend Your Weekends?” in IELTS Speaking

As an IELTS instructor with over 20 years of experience, I’ve encountered countless students grappling with the seemingly simple yet surprisingly nuanced question, “How do you usually spend your weekends?”. This seemingly casual inquiry is a staple in the IELTS Speaking test, particularly in Part 1, where examiners gauge your ability to converse fluently and naturally on everyday topics.

Understanding the Significance of Weekend Activities in IELTS Speaking

While it might seem like a casual conversation starter, the “weekend activities” question holds more weight than meets the eye. Examiners use it to assess:

  • Vocabulary Range: Can you discuss leisure activities using varied and accurate vocabulary?
  • Grammatical Accuracy: Do you employ correct tenses and grammatical structures when describing your routine?
  • Fluency and Coherence: Can you articulate your thoughts smoothly and logically?
  • Pronunciation and Intonation: Are you easily understood, and do you vary your tone for natural-sounding speech?

Mastering the Art of Describing Your Weekends

To effectively answer “How do you usually spend your weekends?”, consider these strategies:

1. Go Beyond the Generic

Avoid one-word responses or overly simplistic descriptions like “I usually relax at home.” Instead, provide specific details and examples to make your answer engaging:

Generic: I like to watch movies on weekends. Specific: On weekends, I enjoy catching up on the latest thriller movies with my family. We usually make popcorn and turn it into a cozy movie night.

2. Showcase Vocabulary Related to Hobbies and Interests

This is your opportunity to demonstrate your vocabulary prowess. Instead of repeating common verbs like “do” or “go”, use more specific and descriptive language:

Instead of: I do photography on weekends. Say: I indulge in my passion for photography during the weekends, often exploring different neighborhoods to capture candid moments.

3. Utilize a Variety of Grammatical Structures

Incorporate a mix of tenses, conditional sentences, and relative clauses to showcase your grammatical range:

Example: If the weather is nice, I love to go hiking in the mountains. It’s a great way to get some exercise and enjoy the fresh air. I usually go with a group of friends, and we always have a lot of fun.

4. Don’t Be Afraid to Be Yourself

The examiners want to hear about your genuine interests. Don’t fabricate elaborate hobbies you don’t actually have. Be authentic, and your personality will shine through.

Illustrative Examples from IELTS Speaking Tests

Let’s look at some sample responses to understand what constitutes a strong answer:

Question: How do you usually spend your weekends?

Candidate 1: Well, I usually just stay home and relax. Maybe I’ll watch some TV or read a book.

(This response lacks detail and specific vocabulary.)

Candidate 2: My weekends are usually dedicated to my passion for painting. I find it incredibly therapeutic to lose myself in creating art. Sometimes, I attend workshops to learn new techniques, which I find very enriching.

(This answer demonstrates specific vocabulary, varied sentence structure, and genuine interest.)

Top Tips for Weekend-Related IELTS Speaking Success

  • Practice Makes Perfect: Rehearse describing your weekend routines using varied vocabulary and grammar.
  • Record Yourself: Listening to your responses can help identify areas for improvement in fluency and pronunciation.
  • Think About Your Audience: Imagine you are talking to a friend and maintain a natural conversational tone.
  • Don’t Memorize: Examiners can easily spot memorized answers. Focus on conveying genuine information.

Concluding Thoughts

Sample Recording

Normally I’ll go out to some stunning natural sceneries to let off steam with my  family or friends on weekends; but if it’s not sunny, I’ll stay at home for the whole  weekend. Mostly I just use the internet to kill time.

I guess some men play sports while women may just do housework. So men may  probably do things to their own interest, by contrast, women spend more time for  their families. I always spend the whole weekends with my family. I barely work  on weekends.

Last weekend, I took my son to the Beijing Botanic Garden to go around to see the  various plants. Besides we went into the greenhouse exhibition of plants which is  very remarkable.

Well, there are so many people in my hometown, it’s really hard to say, probably  most people tend to stay at home to enjoy the family time, but personally speaking, I guess there are not much entertaining facilities in my small hometown for people  to go.

Next week, I plan to go to do some shopping because as the Spring Festival is just  around the corner, I need to go to some super markets to prepare some food and  other groceries; besides, I have to buy some new clothes for my family for the  coming new year, it’s an old Chinese tradition.

Yes, actually I’ve been thinking about going to the gym on Saturdays. I have to do  some exercise, I’m so out of shape now!

Absolutely no! That’s crazy. I have to relax no matter what. Weekends are not for  work!!!

If I were an employee, I would think this is a horrible idea. Employees are human,  we all deserve to have some off-work time.

Yes, the main factor is that after five-day of hard work, I really need some leisure  time to let off steam, or travel around to experience the stunning natural scenery.  Whereas, when I was a kid, I had plenty of time to play, every day was almost the  same.

IELTS SPEAKING PART 1: WEEKEND [ANSWERS]

Do you like weekends?

(Answer 1)

Of course! Who doesn’t like weekends? (rhetorical question – doesn’t need an answer, it is only used to add a dramatic effect) I really believe that every one of us loves weekends as we don’t need to wake up early to go to work or school. It’s the time that we can recharge our batteries (to regain our strength and energy by resting and relaxing for a time) and do something that can make us feel good. How I wish every day is a weekend!

(Answer 2)

I love weekends! Weekends are the only days that I can destress (relax after a period of work) myself. So, every weekend I make sure to do the things that I love, such as walking with my dog at the park, malling, gardening, and cooking new recipes. Today is halfway (in the middle of the period of time) through the week and you don’t have any idea how excited I am for the weekend to come.

What do you usually like to do on weekends?

As a homebody ( a person who likes to stay at home ) , I usually spend my free time on weekends cleaning the house, watching Netflix series, and cooking. I find pleasure ( to enjoy doing something very much ) in doing these things rather than going out or meeting people, doing the latter ( second mentioned ) simply drains my energy.

I love hanging out ( to spend a lot of time in a place or with someone ) with my friends as that’s the only time we can see one another and spend a great time updating each other’s lives. Most of the time we have a packed schedule on weekdays that even having a short meet-up like having coffee isn’t possible. But unfortunately these days, we’ve decided to minimize meeting outside just for safety purposes. Living during this pandemic needs extra care. You know, prevention is better than cure are words to live by   ( a motto; a piece of advice that one is adhered to ) .

What did you do last weekend?

Well, it was a lazy weekend for me. I didn’t do anything special, at all. I just spent time sleeping or lying on my bed since the weather wasn’t good. It was raining cats and dogs (raining very hard) for the whole weekend. I hope that this coming weekend, I’ll be able to do something worthwhile (valuable) .

I went shopping last weekend with my friends and unfortunately, I splurged about $400 on (splurge on – to spend extravagantly) clothes. It was such an impulse buy (something you buy suddenly without thinking about it carefully) . In fact, I had some regrets for spending so much last weekend so I need to discipline myself not to spend lavishly (in a way that is expensive) for the next few months.

(Answer 3)

Honestly, I was kind of lazy last weekend, I didn’t do anything productive as I just wanted to get a good rest. I just lay on my bed for hours and hours and spent time binge-watching ( watching several episodes) my favorite TV series. I don’t usually do that, but for some reason, I wasn’t inspired to do something valuable and I think that’s alright since it’s not all the time that we’re at our best ( in one’s most excellent condition or state) .

(Answer 4)

Well, what did I do? Oh yeah, I baked a banana cake after watching some baking videos on Youtube. It was actually my first time baking a banana cake and I couldn’t be happier ( to be very happy) with the result since I was able to achieve the texture, the taste which I consider perfect, and the right moistness ( the quality of being slightly wet) . I might learn more about baking this weekend.

What will you do next weekend?

I’ve nothing in mind yet. I dunno, I might treat myself to eating something special or going to the cinema, just to reward myself for staying up late ( to remain awake past one’s usual bedtime) preparing for this IELTS exam. I think I deserve something lovely this weekend, but honestly, I can’t decide yet on what to do this upcoming weekend at the moment as my mind is preoccupied ( engrossed in thought) with this IELTS exam.

Well, I’ve already planned to visit my grandparents since I haven’t seen them for several months now. And my grandpa will turn ( become )  80 next month so I’d like to celebrate his birthday in advance as I don’t know if my schedule will be available on his birthday. I don’t want him to be disappointed so I better see him while my schedule is not tight ( when the schedule is tight, it means busy) yet.

Do you like going to the cinema on weekends?

Not at all, I feel uncomfortable being with the crowd ( a large number of people gathered together) of moviegoers. If I want to watch movies, I often do it online or I do the traditional one which is buying or renting a DVD from a shop and enjoying watching it in the comfort of my room.

Yes but I go to the cinema only when there’s a great movie that’s just been released or when my friends invite me. It’s great to watch a movie on the big screen ( the cinema) every now and then but I can’t imagine doing it oftentimes, I’ll surely go broke ( having no money ) if I do it every weekend.

Do you make plans for your weekends?

Not really because I want it to be spontaneous (natural; without planning) . I’m not the type of person who always organizes things ahead of time since it’s not fun. If I always plan things, I feel like I’m restricted (limited in extent, action, etc.) and I feel like a robot that I’m programmed to do what has been prepared.

Yes, I do because I want to make sure that I can do something that can surely help me relieve stress from work. As I said, Saturday and Sunday are the only days that I can destress myself so in the middle of the week, I already plan the things that I want to do for the upcoming (happening soon) weekend. And by doing that, I oftentimes make the most of (to take full advantage of something) my weekend.

Do you think it is important to make the most of your weekend?

Well, yes, if it’s possible since it’s not every day that it’s the weekend. So, people should spend time doing the things that can make them happy or make them forget about their work. And if possible, people should not work on weekends because these days are intended (meant) for relaxation.

Of course! And that’s the very main reason why I make it a habit to plan the things that I want to do every weekend. You know life is short not to make the most of our weekend. We don’t have so much time in the world so let’s be wiser in planning our weekend and doing those lovely things that can make us enjoy life.

What do other people in your hometown usually do on weekends?

I’m not sure but I assume ( presume ) they spend valuable time with their loved ones, probably eating out, going for a drive, or perhaps doing some exercise at the park. I’m sorry, I don’t exactly know how the people in my hometown make use of their free time on weekends as I’m not living in my hometown for several years now.

It’s common for the people in my hometown to indulge ( to allow oneself to enjoy the pleasure of something) in a shopping spree since our neighboring town is very commercialized ( profit-orientated ) – there are big shopping malls where people can shop. Not only that, there are several entertainment facilities like an amusement park where families can bond which can surely make their weekend more meaningful.

Speaking Sample 2

Ielts gt test – speaking mock test # 2.

[The examiner asks the candidate about him/herself, his/her home, work or studies and other familiar topics.]

Topic: Weekends

Q. How do you usually spend your weekends? [Why?] Answer: Well, I usually stay home on a weekend, and sometimes I go out in the evening to hang out with friends. Since my weekdays are normally packed, I try to stay home on weekends and refresh myself to take challenges of the upcoming weekdays. Once a month, I usually pick a weekend and visit a movie theatre with my friends or family. After we finish the movie, we usually have our dinner at a restaurant.

Q. Which is your favourite part of the weekend? [Why?] Answer: I would say that the whole weekend is my favourite. However, if I have to pick a preferable part from my weekends, I’d pick the evening. This is the time when I get outside to hang out with friends or take my family outside. In a regular evening, I get tired to some extent and I rush to reach home from the office amid heavy traffic. However, an evening on a weekend is far more relaxing and fun.

Q. Do you think your weekends are long enough? [Why/Why not?] Answer: I get two days as the weekend in a week and I think it is fair enough. I know some countries where employees have only one day as their weekend. If I think about them, I feel that I am getting enough time to spend with my family and finish some personal tasks. But, metaphorically speaking, weekends sometimes seems to end sooner than I expect, you know what I mean!

Q. How important do you think it is to have free time on the weekends? [Why?] Answer: Well, I believe weekends should be relaxing and focused on family. From this regard, having a free and relaxing time on weekends is quite important. Weekends are meant to be refreshing so that we can spend quality time with our family and friends and get revived to take responsibilities for the coming week. I often spend relaxing times on the weekends and that’s helpful for me to perform better throughout the rest of the week in my office.

[You will have to talk about the topic for one to two minutes. You have one minute to think about what you are going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.]

Describe someone you know who does something well.

You should say:

  • who this person is
  • how you know this person
  • what they do well

and explain why you think this person is so good at doing this.

Cue Card Answer: I can think of a few people whom I personally know and are quite adept in whatever they do. However, I reconsider my mum a wizard who quite efficiently manages her family as well as her other responsibilities. Thank you very much for this nice cue card topic and I would like to explain why I believe my mum is really good at what she does.

My mum – Rebecca Portela, is a full-time housewife and she is in charge of our family. No doubt my father has a huge responsibility as a breadwinner and as a major decision-maker for the family, but my mother takes care of everything else.

To answer the question ‘how I know this person’, I would like to say that I have known her my whole life. She brought me to this world and had been a great supporter of mine throughout my life. She taught me the most important life skills like reading, writing, walking, swimming, talking and so on and as a child, I had her with me through all the ups and downs.

She is an exemplary person and she never neglects her responsibilities. Taking care of a family isn’t an easy task, especial when this family has six family members and a tight budget. She wakes up early in the morning, before we can even notice, and cleans the house, does the washing and prepares the breakfast for us and her days has, in fact, just begun! She has a unique ability to remember everything we need and wish for! For instance, on my exam day, she remembers what I need to take with me and she gets them ready so that I don’t have to waste time. She remembers my exam schedule better than I do. She does that for every single member of our family including my grandmother who lives with us.

We do not always remember to appreciate her devotion and hard works and sometimes we forget to say simply ‘thank you’ as we often take her tasks as granted. But I realized for the first time in my life how immaculately she does everything for us when she got sick and was taken to a hospital. I was 14 years old then and it turned out that none of us can endure without the supervision and help of our mum.

I believe my mom’s devotion and love for her family makes her so capable of taking care of us and performing her other duties. She often says that her family is the centre of her universe and I believe that this mentality makes her so great in everything she does for the family and others. At a time, we had financial hardships, but she managed everything so well that we never had to feel the burden. She works the whole day and I have never heard her complaining about that. Only true devotion and commitment can make it possible.

Before I end, I would like to say, ‘I wish you could meet my mum to find out how amazing she really is and how well she manages everything!’

Discussion topics: Skills and abilities

Q. What skills and abilities do people most want to have today? Why? Answer:   Well, I believe the expectation and desire to develop skills and abilities by people vary to a great extent. For instance, someone who is willing to build a career in the financial sector would like to enhance his or her analytical, and accounting skills while someone who is graduating in computer science, expects to improve his programming and technology related skills. Interestingly, the expectations may vary from country to country as well.

From my personal experience, I can say that one of my sisters always wanted to be a great singer. So she definitely wants to improve her singing skills, and her ability to play different musical instruments. Interestingly, another sister of mine wants to become a doctor and she is focusing on her academic performance and emphasizing her skill development in biology and zoology.

Generally speaking, technology-related skills are globally accepted and that is why so many people around the world are trying to enhance their skills and abilities in technology. I believe this has something to do with the career prospect and job promotion. Finally, technical and mechanical skills have always been important to people and are prevalent even more in this modern era.

Q. Which skills should children learn at school? Are there any skills which they should learn at home? What are they? Answer: Well, when it comes to the skill development of children at school, I believe teachers should focus on teaching them how to be a good team member and interact with others. This is an important soft skill that they will need throughout their life. Besides, they should be taught how to be more tolerant and respectful to others. Finally, teachers should supervise and act to develop the academic skills of the children.

I personally believe that every child in a school is unique. So the masters should focus on understanding their passion and talent and then guide them to develop their hidden potential and abilities. For instance, if a child feels passionate about arts and drawing, she or he shouldn’t be forced to develop his skills in sports.

Parents, on the other hand, have a great responsibility to nurture the talents of their kids at home. They should primarily focus on developing their children’s psychological and cognitive development. Besides they should teach their children how to utilise their time, be punctual, and most importantly follow their dreams and work accordingly.

Q. Which skills do you think will be important in the future? Why? Answer:   I believe technology-related skills will be highly important in the future. We already live in a world which is surrounded by technology and without these skills, it will be difficult for us to find a job or to do better in academic life.

Having said that, I also believe soft skills like communication skills, interpersonal skills and time management skills will have a great demand in the future. As hard skills like someone’s designing, technical and development skills can be enhanced through training at a short span of time, employers in the future will look for people with greater soft skills which takes several years to develop.

Finally, money management is a skill that we all will need in the coming future. The global population and the competition are rising faster than ever before while the global resources are shrinking rapidly; so without this skill, a large number of people won’t be able to become financially successful.

Discussion topics: Salaries for skilled people

Q. Which kinds of jobs have the highest salaries in your country? Why is this? Answer:   In my country, software developers, investment bankers, doctors, university professors, engineers, dentists and marketing managers receive the highest salaries. I believe the primary reason these professionals earn a huge sum of money is that those are all special kind of skills and expertise that a very small percentage of people have. A successful investment banker or a dentist in my country earn at least 5 to 10 times higher than the average wage earners.

I also believe the rumination of a professional depends on the profitability of the job sector. For instance, a skilled software programmer works for a company that earns in millions and even sometimes in billions, while an expert tailor or a fashion designer works in a company that doesn’t have that type of turnover at the end of the year. So naturally, the wage gap is huge.

Q. Are there any other jobs that you think should have high salaries? Why do you think that? Answer:   Yes, I can think of a few other jobs that are really important for our society and the country as a whole, and I strongly believe that they should have higher payrolls. For instance, a school teacher is doing a really great job to build an enlightened society, but it’s a pity that their remuneration isn’t lucrative at all. Similarly, the police officers, cleaners, border security personnel, and the nurses in hospitals should have higher wages.

The police officers and the other security personnel are taking great risks to maintain the peace in our society, the cleaners are doing a tough job to clean our neighbourhood on the other hand, and finally, the nurses are taking good care of our sick relatives in hospitals. The jobs they do are extremely important for us and for our country, so it’s natural that they should be adequately compensated and rewarded, I believe.

Q. Some people say it would be better for society if everyone got the same salary. What do you think about that? Why? Answer:   I think that’s a good idea in theory as it would eliminate the discriminations from our society. However, it’s a faulty hypothesis and not practical.

If every profession has the same salary, no one would do the job that involves risks, hard work and challenges. It would, in a sense, collapse the society. From the very beginning of our life, we would start choosing the easiest tasks and academic subjects and not study or work hard to have a highly rewarding profession in the future. Why should a student study more than 12 hours a day to become a doctor or a researcher when he can spend his time doing whatever he wants and become a salesperson to earn the same salary? I think it does not make sense.

Having said that, I also believe that salary discrimination based on gender, ethnicity and religion should never be tolerated. The same salary should be offered to employees, regardless of their sexes and origins, who are working in the same position in a company or organisation.

I like watch america tv shows. I like play game.

I spend my time to check a new opportunity to improve my English language. I need more help, I like English but English doesn’t like me.

Greetings First, I would like to thank you for helping us learn English. All content is excellent, beneficial, and well-organized. Second, due to the change of place, for more than three months, all my weekends are spent on housework. But basically, resting, going to the park or the beach, and visiting my family are my main activities on weekends.

I usually spend my time on weekends together with my spouse and dog. We like to get coffee at Palmieri Cafe, an Italian coffee shop and bakery in the Dallas Farmer Market. Another great program is walking in White Rock Lake Park, a beautiful park around the lake. Visiting the museums in Dallas or the Kimbell Museum in Forth Worth is also always a good option.

I don’t have weekends because I usually work on them, but sometimes I have one spare weekend a month, so I make the most of it.

I usually spend my weekends with my family, and I go on a long walk in the morning. In the evening, I watch TV shows or movies with my family members. Shopping is one of the main activities on my weekends.

Hello everybody. I usually try to rest on my weekends although that is not always possible. There are so many things we aren’t able to do during the work days, so the time is less than we think. Nevertheless i try to find some time mostly to play with my kind and if i manage to read an interesting article or a nice book.

Greetings, I spend my time with going to a park for walking & enjoying the nature.

1. What do you usually do on your weekends?

Most of the time, I have a lie-in since I don’t have to go to work on weekend mornings. Then, I usually spend the rest of the day indulging myself by playing games, watching movies, or surfing my Facebook newsfeed to let off steam after a busy week. Once in a while, I invite my friends to pay a visit to the nearby shopping center to have a cup of coffee and gossip about what has happened recently.

2. What will you do next weekend?

Nothing in mind yet. I lead a quite hectic life, and my plans frequently change, so it would be tricky to know what I’ll do. I guess, maybe, I might treat myself to something special to eat or even to go on a short trip as a reward for having hit the books so hard recently to prepare for this IELTS test.

3. Did you do anything special last weekend?

Not that I recall. This IELTS test is extremely important to me so I devoted all of my leisure time, including recent weekends, to having the best preparation for it. I hope that I can successfully achieve my target band score so that I might do something more entertaining this weekend.

4. What do other people in your hometown usually do on weekends?

I suppose that each person will have their own way to optimize their weekends based on their personal interests. Some will hang out with their friends, travel to some sort of amusement such as shops and restaurants, or throw parties as a way to relieve their tension. Others, who are such introverts like me, will have more interest in staying at home, binge-watching their favorite movies, playing games, and some things like that,…

IELTS Speaking Part 1: Weekends

General Rules:

how do you usually spend your weekends essay

Here are some general rules about Part 1 that you may find useful. The point of Task 1 is for you to answer shortly to many questions. Think of it like an interview where you need to answer questions about yourself. You should:

Keep it short. When you practice, in general try to answer in 15 to 20 seconds per question.

Give at least 1 reason and 1 real-life example. again very general but try to have at least 1 real example in your answer., talk about yourself. this part is all related to you (if the question doesn't say another person)..

So, lets take a look at some questions:

Vocabulary related to the topic

Sentence starters and linking words, what do you usually do on weekends.

Well, I think I do what most people do actually . At times I hang out with friends, go to the mall, watch a movie at the movie theater or eat some snacks . Other times I stay home and either play on my PC or actually prepare for the next week. Just ordinary stuff I  guess .

My Personal Answer:

As a grown up , I  have to say that my weekends have become quite boring. What I do is either work related , or I go shopping for groceries . Of course, I do try to make things more interesting, and on occasions I'd ask a friend out or organize a hike outside the city. Something else that I really enjoy is biking, so I'd do that too if I'm  in the mood  and the weather allows it .

Did you do anything special last weekend?

Well, actually lately my weekends have been quite similar . Because of the Covid-19 pandemic , I think most of us became a bit closed , introverted  and mostly stay home. Last weekend was the same for me, as I staid home and played video games . A bit boring, I know.

What will you do next weekend?

I don't have any big plans in the coming weeks , and so I guess I'll stay mostly home and play video games . This is for my free leisure time . Of course, I will prepare for the next week, do all my assignments , do some house work and stuff like that. I don't know if I'll hang out or not.  Haven't  decided yet.

Well, I'll definitely try to stay active , that's  for sure . I try to stay in shape and keep fit as much as possible . And so... I might bike around town, or try to work out at home. I have some equipment for working out... dumbbells , a bench and some barbells with weights . So, I hope I can spend some time on myself . Apart from that, the usual as always , some shopping , some house work and so on.

What do other people in your hometown usually do on weekends?

Well, If we talk about young adults and teenagers , well most of them stay online these days. Yes, some might go out to see their friends, but most of them will stay online and either play video games , mobile games or just get stuck on social media and scroll ... It's a little weird but that our generation .

Adults will definitely try to go out of the big city. In my country, many middle aged people invest in a small land or a small villa outside of the big city for a weekend getaway . During the weekend, they might go and fix something at the property , build up something, plant vegetables or flowers and so on. Many want to prepare a place like this for their retirement , and so they will go every week, adding more and more comfort to it, until it's perfect .

Are weekends enough for you to rest for the week?

Sometimes I do feel that I need longer weekends, that's  for sure . I think it depends on how heavy my schedule is. At times, when I have a lot of projects or assignments to work on , I have to spend the whole weekend working, rather than having fun. And then, I feel that I need a few more days, to really relax .

To be honest, I didn't have a proper weekend since I was a college student . As I'm mostly self-employed and independent , I work 7 days a week , without any really free weekend. I always have something to do, and it's either related to my work, another project I come up with or dealing with family business . So, I cant remember when was the last time I could forget everything and just lie down for 2-3 days, without having to do anything.
