Do you quickly need to translate your slides from English to French or some words from English to Hindi? Follow these steps to explore translation options in PowerPoint 365 for Windows :

  • Launch PowerPoint, and open an existing presentation or even create a new one. Now, optionally select some text on your slide. Then, access the Review tab of the Ribbon , and click the Translate button, as shown highlighted in red within Figure 1 , below .

  • Alternatively, select your text, and right-click to bring up the contextual menu you can see in Figure 2 , below. Choose the Translate option, highlighted in red within Figure 2 .

  • This action opens the Translator Task Pane as shown in Figure 3 , below. The text content selected on the slide shows up in the From area shown highlighted in green within Figure 3 . Note that PowerPoint has automatically detected the language of the text, as shown highlighted in red within Figure 3 .

  • PowerPoint has also selected French as the To language, as shown highlighted in blue within Figure 3 , above. This language is chosen based on the translation languages you used previously. Also, the French translation can be seen in the To area shown highlighted in orange within Figure 3 .

Swap From and To Languages

  • If you have selected the wrong languages and want to swap the From and To languages, you can click on the Swap Languages button, highlighted in purple within Figure 3 .
  • Hover your cursor over any of the words in the original text within the From area, as shown highlighted in red within Figure 4 , below, and you can see the exact translation of that word in the To area, as shown highighted in blue within Figure 4 . You also see more translation options for the same word contextually in the area below, highlighted in purple within Figure 4 .

  • To replace the existing text in the slide with text from the translated language, click the Insert button, highlighted in green within Figure 4 , above.
  • Save your presentation often.

Translating Entire Presentations?

By processing one text container at a time, you can translate entire presentations. But do remember these machine translations are not perfect. Be sure to check them manually for any imperfections. Also, if you want to work on an entire presentation, it is a good idea to save your existing presentation with a new name and then translate text content. This will ensure that you do not overwrite the presentation in the original language!

If you don’t know how to translate a PowerPoint document automatically, we are going to help you out. Working with PowerPoint is very common for students and workers who make a lot of presentations. This software is one of the most complete presentation softwares and it also has an integrated translation tool.

You know that translating a slide is not as simple as other types of files, since these are not like text documents where we can copy and paste the text to be translated in any online translator.

However, this does not mean that we cannot translate a PowerPoint presentation at all, since there are several tools with which we can do it easily, and, moreover, without having to pay for it. Let’s take a look at them.

Directly from PowerPoint

The first tool we are going to show you is an add-on developed by Microsoft specifically to translate presentations made with PowerPoint. The plug-in is included in PowerPoint and is undoubtedly one of the best ways we have to translate slide texts in various languages quickly and easily.

To use it you must follow theses steps:

  • Open the presentation or slide in PowerPoint.
  • Then, at the top of the document click “Start” right next to “File”.
  • Now go to the Slide Ribbon and click on the “Translate” option.
  • Right next to this option you will find another one called “Language”.
  • Now on the right side of the document, a translation menu will open.
  • Select the text on the slide with the mouse. You can select the whole slide.
  • You will see that at the top it detects the source language automatically and at the bottom, it offers you the translation.
  • Select the language you want the document to be translated to by pressing the arrow on the latter.
  • If you wish, you can add the translation to the slide as subtitles by clicking on the “Insert” button.

Google Translate

Although Google’s translation tool does not always offer the most accurate translations (as they are usually too literal and robotic), they can save us if we want to know what a PowerPoint presentation we have received in an unknown language says. Follow these steps:

  • Go to the Google Translate website.
  • Now choose from which language you are going to do the translation.
  • Next, select the “Documents” option that you will find next to the “Text” option, just above the text boxes.

Microsoft PowerPoint and Google Slides are popular software solutions for creating presentations. While PowerPoint has more features, Google Slides offers seamless collaboration, cross-platform availability, and an easy-to-use interface without a subscription. When you receive a PowerPoint presentation, convert it to Google Slides to continue editing and collaborating on it.

Converting a PowerPoint presentation to the Google Slides format has advantages, but it isn't a smooth process. Formatting issues can occur. You can use Google Drive or Google Slides to convert a PowerPoint presentation. This trick is also helpful when using a PowerPoint template with Google Slides.

Although Google Slides has apps for iPhone and Android , we focus on the company's web version.

Convert a PowerPoint to Google Slides Using Google Drive

You can upload a PowerPoint presentation to Google Drive and open it in Slides. It's the easiest way to convert from PowerPoint to Google Slides.

  • Visit Google Drive on the web and sign in with your Google account details.
  • After uploading the file, Google Drive converts your PowerPoint file, making it compatible with Google Slides. Double-click it to open it in Google Slides.

Whether you use a .pptx or an older .ppt file, Google Drive automatically converts it to Slides. You can open it like a traditional Slides file and make changes.

How to add audio to your Google Slides presentation

Use google slides to convert a pptx file.

If you don't want to deal with Google Drive, you can import and use any PowerPoint file using Google Slides. Follow the steps below to make changes.

  • Go to Google Slides on the web and create a blank presentation. Or, type slides.new in the address bar and press the Enter or Return key.
  • The following menu shows your recent files and several online and offline locations where you can import a file. Move to the Upload menu.
  • Google Slides converts and opens a PPT file in the Slides format.

There are times when you want to convert specific PowerPoint slides. Importing an entire presentation and deleting irrelevant slides isn't the most productive way. Instead, import selected slides using the steps below.

  • Open a blank presentation in Google Slides (check the steps above).

Your PowerPoint slides are ready for editing in Google Slides.

Although Microsoft offers real-time collaboration on PowerPoint, the sharing experience isn't as good as Google Slides. One or more users can work on a presentation simultaneously, share comments, and check tweaks instantly.

Create a presentation

Create a presentation in powerpoint for the web.

With PowerPoint for the web running in your web browser, you can:

Create presentations that include images, videos, transitions, and animations.

Get to your presentations from your computer, tablet, or phone.

Create, open, and name a presentation

Go to powerpoint.office.com .

Select New blank presentation , open a Recent file, select one of the themes , or start with a presentation template .

To name the presentation, select the title at the top and type a name.

If you need to rename the presentation, select the title and retype the name.

Add a slide

Select the slide you want your new slide to follow.

Select Home > New Slide .

Select Layout and the you type want from the drop-down.

When working in PowerPoint for the web, your work is saved every few seconds. You can select File > Save a Copy to create a duplicate copy in another location.

Or choose File > Download As to save a copy to your device.

Use Download a Copy to save the presentation to your computer

When you're online, AutoSave is always on and saves your changes as you work. If at any time you lose your Internet connection or turn it off, any pending changes will sync as soon as you’re back online.
