A former four-star recruit out of St. Joseph’s Prep School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he was the 7th-ranked recruit from the state and the 21st WR prospect, he was also the 160th overall player in the 2021 recruiting class.

He is the son of Hall of Fame Colts wide receiver Marvin Harrison. Before attending St. Joseph’s, he attended La Salle College High S school as a freshman. Once he arrived at St. Joseph’s, he helped his team to three consecutive state championships while setting Philadelphia Catholic League career records with 2,625 receiving yards and 37 receiving touchdowns. His production in high school quickly translated when he arrived on Ohio State’s campus. Here are his college statistics:

Harrison Jr. was a Unanimous All-American in 2022 and 2023. In the latter season, he won the Fred Biletnikoff Award as the top WR in the nation and was the Graham-George Offensive Player of the Year, an individual honor bestowed by the Big 10. He was also a two-time Richter-Howard Receiver of the Year recipient. He was the first player in Ohio State history to have two 1,000-yard receiving seasons and there are only 10 1,000-yard seasons on record. He did not test at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine or at Ohio State’s Pro Day. Harrison Jr. stood on his exceptional tape and put his focus to playing football rather than testing for the esteemed events. He may not be the fastest wide receiver in the draft or the most explosive, but his speed is more than functional. According to advanced data, he clocked in at 21.7 MPH with a Top 3 & 5 average speed of 21.6 MPH and 21.3 MPH, meaning he frequently reaches well into the 21 MPH mark - that’s very fast.

"Maserati Marv" is one of the more technically sound - complete - wide receiver prospects to enter the NFL Draft in years. His expansive release packages, combined with his ability to physically and agilely win at the line of scrimmage, allow him to create immediate separation in a quick game, and it establishes vertical leverage for stacking opportunities. Harrison Jr. does a great job understanding the spatial relationship between himself and the unfortunate CB tasked to cover him. He knows how/when to work into CB’s blind spots to cause the necessary consternation and doubt to set up a subsequent move to maximize separation.

He creates separation through his elite athletic ability, his elite route running, and his good play strength to battle through contact and subtly push off at the break. He’s a fluid and balanced receiver with nimble feet and elite football IQ. Harrison Jr. is a threat at each level of the field and does an exceptional job finding ways to secure adequate fade/go balls while using his body very well at the catch point to haul in curls/comebacks. He’s the type of receiver that quarterbacks can just say, “Efff it, Marv’s out there somewhere.”

His elite combination of flexibility, light feet, elite vertical ability, and route nuance to maximize the separation he already successfully created is a beautiful mixture for a WR, especially when it’s coupled with elite ball skills, the ability to leap and come down with highlight contested catches, and an expansive route tree.

Harrison Jr. also does a sensational job reacting suddenly to passes, which gives defenders little time to react. His ability to leap and maintain proper body control while adjusting to inaccurate passes will lead to production on any offense. Giants fans would be so lucky to have Marvin Harrison Jr. fall to them at six. It seems unlikely. Still, he’ll be an elite playmaker who can dictate coverages from day one with All-Pro upside.

For model year 2024, the staid Mercedes-Benz E-Class receives a complete overhaul that signals the introduction of an all-new generation, the storied sedan's 11th for those who keep track of such things. A few understated exterior cues hint at an updated drivetrain matched by an interior that takes big steps into the modern era, with more opulence and more style.

But the biggest story for the E-Class comes down to technology, highlighted by the addition of a 48-volt mild hybrid system that now comes standard on all powertrains and trims. And we know Mercedes loves to stimulate the senses with ambient lights and even subtle smells, but the new generation takes the situation to a whole 'nother level with some of the most extensive tech features of any vehicle on the market .

Elegant Exterior Improvements For The 11th-Gen E-Class

From more than 15 feet away, only diehard M-B fans will be able to tell the 11th gen apart from its predecessors. Seemingly effortless lines flow from the revamped grille up front, which features tri-point logos, then aerodynamically over the long hood and side panels all the way to a narrow light bar at the tail.

Pulling open the textural door handles -- which, as on the EQE electric sedan , automatically pop out and retract -- reveals a calm and coherent interior replete with quilted leather, exposed wood trim, and patterned aluminum. A few details, including the seashell pattern of the upholstery, lean towards the more nautical theme of the EQ lineup, but overall the aesthetic builds on design cues that made the GLC SUV so sumptuous .

The seats themselves live right up to Mercedes levels of comfort, though as new on the firmer side, may need some time to break in and soften up, including the fore and aft-adjustable headrests. Throughout, plenty of headroom, legroom, and even the often-overlooked volume for elbows to spread out onto armrests make the E-Class easy to relax within. And the trunk only loses a few cubic feet of volume versus the outgoing gen, despite all the additional accouterments.

A Big Sedan That Drives Small

Speccing an E 450 4Matic adds more power and all-wheel drive, thanks to the 48-volt hybrid assist system that furthers bolsters the typically smooth performance of a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six. The mill pushes up to 22 PSI of boost and adds a pair of extra cylinders versus the lower-spec E 350, resulting in peak output of 375 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque (of which the electric motor contributes up to 23 horsepower and 148 lb-ft). While Mercedes has a plug-in hybrid version of the new E-Class , it's not being brought to the U.S. 

All the E-Classes employ the same nine-speed automatic gearbox, which helps to keep the hybridized engine in its happy place while either cruising or pushing hard. For the E 450, the many gear ratios mean that once peak torque hits as low as 1,800 RPM, further exploration into the deeper reaches of throttle pedal travel can either result in gearshifts or the generous feeling of spooling turbo pressure depending on drive modes. Though ample, the sensation still surges as revs climb higher—in decidedly opposite fashion of so many turbo engines controlled by electronic wastegates to flatten out power delivery.

Steering And Suspension Combine Perfectly

Altogether, tuning the engine to work with an electric motor results in a 0-60 time half a second quicker than the previous generation, at 4.4 seconds. And that's despite a curb weight of 4,376 pounds, or about a 5% increase. As usual, the E-Class's chassis setup helps to make such abundant power seem absolutely effortless, as the optional Airmatic suspension system contributes to the unavoidable conclusion that nothing this big and heavy should drive so well.

Part of the deft performance comes down to light steering that can firm up with Sport mode selected, while working in concert with rear-axle steering (which can produce a few strange moments of discernible wiggle at first, but starts to feel normal surprisingly quickly). At low speeds, the system turns the rear wheels up to 4.5 degrees in the opposite direction to those at the front, to reduce the turning radius by about 10%.

As helpful as that can be while negotiating tight streets or parking lots, the difference out ripping up canyons at speed—where the rear wheels turn in the same direction as the fronts—actually stands out as most noticeable given that such wizardry more typically fades into minimal effectiveness on other cars. The brakes, meanwhile, might manage the line of modulation between true pad bite and regeneration better than any other hybrid ever.

When Tech Attacks

As well as the powertrain and chassis meld together traditional ICE refinement with high-tech electric efficiency to produce stellar driving dynamics in sheer performance terms, the main generational differences that most drivers will notice before even touching the accelerator pedal involve how substantially technology affects the entire E-Class experience. The enormous dash, in this case equipped with the SuperScreen option that includes three distinct digital screens, simply boggles the mind. The passenger screen alone measures 12.3 inches diagonally—that's bigger than many center console infotainment touchscreens on the market today.

For the driver's cluster, more sensitive eyeballs (and brains) may opt to turn off the holographic 3D display for navigation and gauge readouts—an easy task via only a couple of taps on the main central touchscreen. But otherwise, navigating through 'Benz's updated third-gen MBUX that debuts on the E-Class can get quite frustrating. Selecting the "Home" icon, for example, takes the screen back to the navigation page first, before a second tap actually pulls up the home screen (makes sense, right?). Apple CarPlay, supported wirelessly or wired, can take more than a few exploratory menus to locate—or via a tiny icon that pops up at the top-left of the navigation screen. And that camera above the dash allows for selfies, video conferencing apps, and even TikTok. Using third-party apps largely requires parking the car, but is this truly necessary, not to mention a good thing?

The screens themselves sit within a fairly pleasing dash design, largely because suborning so many systems to digital selection necessarily reduces visual clutter. Still, the extent of piano black plastic trim surround piecess and on what few buttons remain then becomes something of a bummer—especially for the tiny strip of physical switchgear almost hidden below the central screen. 

Some Bright Spots In Amid The Onslaught

Good luck figuring out the climate controls, too, which use quick-selection widgets at the bottom of the main screen but also a dedicated menu available as a pop-up. Despite what seems like relatively simple selections for fan speed, vent location, temperature, and auto settings, none of the above appear to correlate with the air that actually comes out of the dash. On a hot day in the Southern California sun, the system regularly turned off completely before deciding to switch to full ice bath, then fed only the defroster or foot vents for a bit, all while not in Auto mode, nor attributable to the "Energizing Air Control" option, which only adds extra filtration.

Some of the tech actually turned out kind of nifty, in all fairness. At first, with music streaming over CarPlay, the vibrations in time with bass notes (Mercedes calls them "exciters") seemed similar to movie theater gimmicks. But allowing some sound waves to flow through the upholstery begins to fade quickly into the arena of non-conscious acceptance and eventually amplifies the Burmeister and Dolby audio system. Haptic buttons, expanding across the 'Benz lineup, also require only a moment's adjustment period before becoming all-too-natural (other than the borderline obscene stroke required to retract the sunroof shades). And extra USB-C outlets next to large hidden cupholders beneath the grain of black ash wood help, too.

Bridging The Gap Between Generations

Any experienced 'Benz owners already know to never utter the word "Mercedes" within an actual Mercedes, for fear of bringing the voice-controlled Interior Assistant to life. And the new MBUX continues to ding and beep and chime almost incessantly. But this 11th generation proves itself a poster child for the recent news out of Europe that regulators want to nudge automakers back toward physical switchgear. The E-Class was likely too far along in its development timeline to take a step "back" from the technological brink. Hopefully, the AI software that 'Benz boasts will learn driver preferences will actually do so, allowing owners to simply get in and drive this luxury sedan that drives so well, all without the potentially inhibiting effects of technology entering the picture at all.

For better or worse, millennials who grew up on computers, then tablets, and now live on smartphones may still find the 11th-gen E-Class somewhat overwhelmingly technologized. Whether Mercedes-Benz intends for those buyers, perhaps now enjoying some disposable income, to shell out the $62,300 starting price for a 2024 E 350--or the extra six grand for a bigger engine--remains something of a quandary, given the E's more traditional positioning that leaned undeniably toward a slightly older buyer.

Powerful Realtor Group Agrees to Slash Commissions to Settle Lawsuits

The National Association of Realtors will pay $418 million in damages and will amend several rules that housing experts say will drive down housing costs.

American homeowners could see a significant drop in the cost of selling their homes after a real estate trade group agreed to a landmark deal that will eliminate a bedrock of the industry, the standard 6 percent sales commission.

The National Association of Realtors, a powerful organization that has set the guidelines for home sales for decades, has agreed to settle a series of lawsuits by paying $418 million in damages and by eliminating its rules on commissions. Legal counsel for N.A.R. approved the agreement early Friday morning, and The New York Times obtained a copy of the signed document.

The deal, which lawyers anticipate will be filed within weeks and still needs a federal court’s approval, would end a multitude of legal claims from home sellers who argued that the rules forced them to pay excessive fees.

In a statement released on Friday morning, Nykia Wright, the interim chief executive of N.A.R., said “It has always been our goal to preserve consumer choice and protect our members to the greatest extent possible. This settlement achieves both of those goals.”

Housing experts said the deal, and the expected savings for homeowners, could trigger one of the most significant jolts in the U.S. housing market in 100 years. “This will blow up the market and would force a new business model ,” said Norm Miller, a professor emeritus of real estate at the University of San Diego.

Americans pay roughly $100 billion in real estate commissions annually, and real estate agents in the United States have some of the highest standard commissions in the world. In many other countries, commission rates hover between 1 and 3 percent. In the United States, most agents specify a commission of 5 or 6 percent, paid by the seller. If the buyer has an agent, the seller’s agent agrees to share a portion of the commission with that agent when listing the home on the market.

An American homeowner currently looking to sell a $1 million home should expect to spend up to $60,000 on real estate commissions alone, with $30,000 going to his agent and $30,000 going to the agent who brings a buyer. Even for a home that costs $400,000 — close to the current median for homes across the United States — sellers are still paying around $24,000 in commissions, a cost that is baked into the final sales price of the home.

The lawsuits argued that N.A.R., and brokerages who required their agents to be members of N.A.R., had violated antitrust laws by mandating that the seller’s agent make an offer of payment to the buyer’s agent, and setting rules that led to an industrywide standard commission. Without that rate essentially guaranteed, agents will now most likely have to lower their commissions as they compete for business.

Economists estimate that commissions could now be reduced by 30 percent, driving down home prices across the board. The opening of a free market for Realtor compensation could mirror the shake-up that occurred in the travel industry with the emergence of online broker sites such as Expedia and Kayak.

“The forces of competition will be let loose,” said Benjamin Brown, co-chairman of the antitrust practice at Cohen Milstein and one of the lawyers who hammered out the settlement. “You’ll see some new pricing models, and some new and creative ways to provide services to home buyers. It’ll be a really exciting time for the industry.”

The original lawsuit, filed in April 2019 by a group of Missouri home sellers, ended in a verdict of $1.8 billion in October. Because the suit included accusations of antitrust violations, plaintiffs could have been eligible for triple damages of up to $5.4 billion. In exchange for the reduction in damages, the association gave up its right to appeal. The verdict sent shock waves through the real estate industry and has since catalyzed into more than a dozen copycat suits across the country, including a nationwide class-action case that ensnares the country’s largest brokerage and its owner, Warren E. Buffett. That brokerage, Berkshire Hathaway, has not settled, but others, including Keller Williams and Re/Max, have settled in separate cases. N.A.R. now joins them.

Under the settlement, tens of millions of home sellers will likely be eligible to receive a small piece of a consolidated class-action payout.

The legal loss struck a blow to the power wielded by the organization, which has long been considered untouchable, insulated by its influence. Founded in 1908, N.A.R. has more than $1 billion in assets, 1.3 million members and a political action committee that pours millions into the coffers of candidates across the political spectrum.

The antitrust division of the Department of Justice is continuing its investigation of N.A.R.’s practices, including the organization’s oversight of databases for home listings, called multiple listing sites or the M.L.S. The sites are owned and operated by N.A.R.’s local affiliates. For decades, the Justice Department has questioned whether these databases stifle competition and whether some N.A.R. rules foster price-fixing on commissions.

Some experts said the shift on commission structure, and the billions of dollars that would flow into the housing market as a result, could spark a recovery in the housing market, going so far as to say that it could be as significant as the 1930s New Deal, a flurry of legislation and executive orders signed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt designed to stabilize and rebuild the nation’s economic recovery following the Great Depression. This included the Better Housing Program, which was designed to make housing and mortgages more accessible and led to the creation of the Federal Housing Administration.

The financial crisis of 2008, when home values imploded, and earlier changes to the mortgage industry in the 1970s and 1980s, including the creation of Freddie Mac and the introduction of the adjustable rate mortgage, also set off permanent transformations. With Friday’s settlement, the process of buying and selling a home is now in for another historical change.

“This will be a really fundamental shift in how Americans buy, search for, and purchase and sell their housing. It will absolutely transform the real estate industry,” said Max Besbris, an associate professor of sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the author of “Upsold,” a book exploring the link between housing prices and the real estate business. “It will prompt one of the biggest transformations to the housing market since New Deal-era regulations were put in place.”

The October verdict landed at a time of swirling controversy for the organization , and in the last five months, its internal turmoil reached a fever pitch. Its chief executive, Bob Goldberg, announced in a closed-door meeting that he would retire , just days after the verdict. His exit followed that of N.A.R. president Kenny Parcell, who resigned in August two days after a Times investigation revealed widespread allegations of sexual harassment.

In January, N.A.R.’s new president, Tracy Kasper, who had stepped into the role early with a pledge of reshaping the organization’s culture and fighting the lawsuits at all costs, announced her own sudden exit after N.A.R. said Ms. Kasper was the target of blackmail.

Despite N.A.R.’s turbulence over the last several months, however, there was one constant: their insistence that the lawsuits were flawed and they intended to appeal. With Friday’s settlement agreement, N.A.R. gave up the fight.

The settlement includes many significant rule changes. It bans N.A.R. from establishing any sort of rules that would allow a seller’s agent to set compensation for a buyer’s agent, a practice that critics say has long led to “steering,” in which buyers’ agents direct their clients to pricier homes in a bid to collect a bigger commission check.

And on the online databases used to buy and sell homes, the M.L.S., the settlement requires that any fields displaying broker compensation be eliminated entirely. It also places a blanket ban on the longtime requirement that agents subscribe to multiple listing services in the first place in order to offer or accept compensation for their work.

N.A.R. has repeatedly insisted that it does not own multiple listing sites, but the majority of them are owned and operated by the local Realtor associations that operate as N.A.R. subsidiaries. Now, with the settlement effectively severing the link between agent compensation and M.L.S. access, many agents are likely to rethink their membership in the association.

“The reset button on the sale of homes was hit today,” said Michael Ketchmark, the Kansas City lawyer who represented the home sellers in the main lawsuit. “Anyone who owns a home or dreams of owning one will benefit tremendously from this settlement.”
