Entertainment is a mode to unleash all our suppressed passions and desires and enjoy a short moment of life with fun and happiness. For that visiting parks, places of heritage, zoos, museums, or having a simple picnic can be those several ways to enjoy our vacations and pass times. For me visiting a water park is great bliss.

Recently I and my friends went to a nearby water park in Kolkata that is well known for its water slides, fun, games, and also the ambience of happiness. We readily agreed to visit the park and make the day memorable. Reaching there we bought ourselves tickets and took some costumes to enjoy the water slides. We felt both excited and terrified viewing the giant rollercoaster and the ups and downs of the ride. Yet gathering all our courage we went on.

We got into it consecutively and as soon as the ride started we felt the greatest enjoyment of our lives. Each and every ride was wonderful, especially the water slip and the pool rides. In fact, the park also accommodated some really cool cocktail outlets and a platform to enjoy the music going on. The entire environment was one of mirth. After losing time in the pandemic, the water park visit became a fruitful experience get-together, as many friends came together who would have otherwise been disconnected for a while.

Taking any journey with people we love is always a rewarding experience. Whenever we find ourselves in a pensive mood, we feel desperate to attend a place of fun and excitement. Visiting a park, be it any local ground or an exclusive park with sophisticated rides and slips, strolling at parks is always a great exercise for the mind and body. It releases all our clogged emotions and makes the mind as free and wide as a huge green field. Visiting parks has often been a medicative remedy.

Many old people along with kids practice visiting to park in the morning and dusk. It enables them to maintain a healthy body and mind and feel carefree. Similarly for me visiting a park has also a great purpose. Recently I went to a famous water park in Kolkata, that is quite renowned for its water rides.

The park also has a separate underground base station for dance and music, where young people can spend their quality time. The entire park is well decorated with cartoons and animals, which in turn become viable for little kids. The park’s beauty attracts lots of visitors every summer. Also, the cocktail outlets lying adjacent to the water park add up to its beauty. 

Recently, I got a wonderful opportunity to get together with my high school friends and spent a great time with them in that water park, I hardly could have denied such an option and readily agreed. It was also a moment of nostalgia since these friends live far away without that old bonding. We arrived as one of our friends has already got our tickets. We opted for the rollercoaster ride, although it rose great fear and excitement in us. It was as majestic as it was fearful.

Once into it, we realized how beautiful the company was. We were thrilled with joy and enjoyed all the water rides with extreme fun. The summer heat no longer felt tormenting us as the mirth filled the air. After completing the rides we changed our dresses and quickly visited the dance p[platform. We enjoyed each other’s company and forgot the passage of time. Happiness, like bubbles, brewed up till we returned back and parted our ways. 

Visiting a water park that day was not any show of our sophisticated taste. But it was god’s grace that all our long-lost friends got reunited. Those lost memories were once again relived and cherished as if it was anew. I still can feel the happiness of that day and will never forget this wonderful memory.

One of my childhood fascinations revolved around watching TV programs on wild animals and reading documented literature on these animals in their natural habitats. Lions, elephants, and giraffes were particularly fascinating to watch, though the perception then was that the animals were merely fiction since they seemed so large compared to the dogs and cats living amongst us in the neighborhood. But this perception suddenly changed when I visited the Nairobi National Park in Kenya, where I came alive to the fact that these animals are real and inherently beautiful.

My journey to the East African country was facilitated by a cultural exchange program shared between my former school and another institution in Kenya. Although I was exposed to very many new things during my three weeks stay in the country, the most memorable experience was a visit to the Nairobi National Park with my colleagues and mentors. The national park is an expansive and unique ecosystem spanning across 117 km 2 of open grass plains with scattered acacia bush and other breath-taking vegetation types.

The uniqueness of the park is grounded on its capacity to host major wildlife attractions and ease of accessibility from the capital city. The park is located only 7 km from the capital city of Kenya, hence tourists can easily land at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and have the opportunity to visit the park the same day.

In terms of major wildlife attractions, the Nairobi national park easily passes as one of the best in the world due to the many varieties of animals and their interactions in broad daylight. In the five hours that I was in the park, I had the chance to view black rhinos, lions, leopards, giraffes, elephants, buffaloes, and other animal varieties in their natural surroundings as opposed to viewing them in a zoo. The game viewing was spectacular, particularly when it came to the hunting episodes involving lions and other herbivorous animals such as the wildebeests. I noticed that the lions hunted in a group of four or five and were often led by a female member of the group known as the lioness.

I also observed that, although these lions seemed huge and heavy, they were extremely fast in their hunting episodes and killed their prey through strangulation. Although female lions did most of the hunting, the largest share of the prey went to the male lions and cubs in what could be compared to contemporary home contexts whereby women settle down to eat after serving their men and children.

The tour guide informed us that they are many elephants and giraffes in the national park due to the Savanna environment and availability of many shrubs that act as a major source of food for the wildlife. True to the tour guide’s depiction, I viewed almost thirty elephants moving in a herd which was led by a huge male elephant. I came to learn that the elephants are considered as an endangered species due to poachers who kill them to extract their highly priced tusks and sell them in major European and Asian markets.

The tour guide also told us that, although giraffes have no known enemy, it was clear that human beings were increasingly killing them for their meat and skin. I could not understand why people could take part in killing such beautiful creatures for their trophies and meat.

Away from the enticing range of wild animals, I came to learn from the tour guide that the Nairobi national park holds corporate events such as bush dinners and team building excursions, special events such as weddings, and is also home to a favorite three-star restaurant where visitors can relax for sumptuous meals while overlooking the park. I had the occasion to witness one corporate event and interacted with a lot of people that were not part of our team.

One group that caught my attention consisted of ten men wearing traditional African regalia and dancing to the tunes of beautiful cultural songs. I was informed that these men were part of a larger cultural troupe that welcomed visitors into the park through song and dance. Although the men looked traditional, they demonstrated a fair understanding of the English language as they sang some of the songs in English. The people in the park were increasingly friendly and demonstrated a genuine concern about our comfort and safety while at the park. The singers, who I later learnt were from the “Maasai” community, kept us alive with their comforting songs and even welcomed us to dance with them.

To date, the visit at the Nairobi national park still remains my most memorable experience due to the many wildlife attractions and hospitable people. Not only did I come across my childhood fascinations in real-life context, but I also watched the animals hunt their prey in the expansive plains located just outside the capital city. It was the most fulfilling experience of my life, though I was sad that some unscrupulous individuals were killing the animals to benefit commercially through the sale of game trophies and meat. It is my conviction that developed countries should assist in curtailing the trade in animal trophies by criminalizing the business and providing the much needed funds to protect animals in their natural habitats.

Last weekend, my cousins visited our home and they insisted me to hang out. On that time, we decided to go to a park for spending our leisure time. it is situated in the centre of the city and rectangular in shape. This is one of the most attractive and well-maintained parks in my city. It is full of lush greenery and there are a variety of trees and flowers. It has a long jogging track where we did jogging together.

After jogging, we sat on benches to relax our body. Apart from it, we enjoyed some beverage from the cafeteria which is situated in the right corner of the park. There is a big green lawn also which is ideal for exercise, yoga and fair.

Luckily, on that day, there was an art fair which is organized every year in summer. We enjoyed a lot to see different types of art crafts. I purchased a wall hanging which is made by recycling the waste material. It looked so stunning and eye-catching. We spent the least 3to4 hours in this park but we didn’t realize the time. I love to go there again and again because of its natural beauty, I feel so refresh as well as, relax to visit there. all in all, that time which I spend with my cousins in this park was memorable as well as, enjoyable for me.

Surprisingly, that time we saw a full garden decorated with artificial flowers and dazzling lights. Moreover, there are also a lot of rides for kids such as swings, slides, see-saws, spring riders, playground climbers and tubes.

Apart from it, I and my husband also tried slides and swing. there is also running and jogging track available for people. After it, we saw benches side corner of the garden and we sat on the benches as well, we shared their matters with each other.

Furthermore, I told my husband to eat something. Then, we enjoyed some beverage from the cafeteria which is situated in the northern part of the garden. after that, we sat there and looked at the sky as well as, enjoyed the beauty of nature.

Interestingly, we spent 2 to 3 hours together and, that day was very special for me because that day I spent a lot of with my partner.

At last, not least, whenever I remember that day I feel wonderful and amazing as well as, this moment was memorable for the rest of life. With it, I loved that garden because there is the number of facilities is available such as seating arrangements, parking facility, and cafeteria also.

Over 4,000 years of history, waterfalls and giant sequoias: Why Yosemite park is 'iconic'

Eight years before Yellowstone was established as America’s first national park, President Abraham Lincoln signed a document called the Yosemite Valley Grant Act in 1864. This act protected Northern California’s Yosemite Valley and the nearby Mariposa Big Tree Grove for public recreation.

“This is a landmark act, the first time anywhere (in America) land had been set aside for protection and public enjoyment,” said Scott Gediman, public affairs officer at Yosemite National Park. 

Now we know the valley and surrounding area as Yosemite National Park – one of America’s most popular national parks , with 3,897,070 million visitors in 2023 – designated in 1890. You have likely heard of its world-famous sites, such as Yosemite Falls, El Capitan and the towering ancient sequoia trees. 

“Yosemite National Park is such an iconic national park. We attract visitors from all over the world to the park,” Gediman said.

What’s so special about Yosemite National Park?

Comprising 1,200 square miles, Yosemite has a lot to offer visitors. 

“It’s, like, between the natural history, the culture history, the wildlife, the beauty and the size, there’s so much to see and do in Yosemite,” said Gediman. “We feel that it just encompasses so many of the ideals and so many things that come to mind when people think of national parks.”

Of course, there’s the park's natural beauty: iconic monoliths like Half Dome, the stunning Yosemite Valley that enraptured famous naturalist John Muir, and some of the world’s tallest waterfalls.

Besides the natural wonders, the park is steeped in history, from the Native people who have lived there for centuries to establishments that convey “the growth of the national park system,” Gediman said. One of California’s first mountain resort hotels, the Wawona Hotel was established in 1856 during the Victorian Era and features a swimming pool and golf course – right inside the park. There is also The Ahwahnee Hotel , built in 1927 as a luxury hotel and today, is considered “the crown jewel of national park lodges,” Gediman said. 

Do I need reservations to visit Yosemite National Park?

Yes, if you plan on visiting this summer. 

The park is piloting a reservation system to enter the park during the peak hours of 5 a.m. through 4 p.m. on certain days between April 13 and Oct. 27 to manage traffic. (You can enter without a reservation before 5 a.m. and after 4 p.m., though.) Reservations cost $2 and are available seven days before your park visit, but you’ll need to hurry – they sell out almost immediately. 

Can I drive through Yosemite National Park?

Yes, you can drive through Yosemite (with a reservation). 

Tioga Road, also known as Highway 120, is one of the park’s most scenic drives. The 46-mile-road takes travelers past landmarks such as Tenaya Lake and Tuolumne Meadows, and to an elevation of just under 10,000 feet when it hits Tioga Pass. However, Tioga Road, like others, closes depending on the season. 

What are the towns closest to Yosemite National Park?

Several historic gateway towns surround the four corridors of Yosemite, including Sonora, Jamestown and El Portal. Travelers can find hotels, campgrounds, restaurants and gas stations in these towns, as well as a rich heritage of gold mining and railroads.

There’s no bad time of year to visit Yosemite. However, spring and summer are its most visited seasons. 

“The park comes back to life after the spring,” Gediman said. As the ice melts, the waterfalls roar and meadows bloom. “Summer is beautiful and good for hiking,” he said. The park's lakes become a popular destination for visitors to swim and canoe. 

However, if you visit in the fall, you’ll encounter fewer crowds and still enjoy “the nice weather and longer days,” according to Gediman. In the winter, the park is still open, although some parts are closed. “Winter is the quietest time of the year, absolutely beautiful. We do get snow; it just depends on the elevation in the park.”

Who are the native people who live in Yosemite National Park?

The Indigenous people of Yosemite can be traced nearly 4,000 years ago , and many tribes continue to call Yosemite home to this day. Today, there are seven traditionally associated American Indian tribes and groups connected to the valley that make up the American Indian Council of Mariposa County : Southern Sierra Miwuk Nation), Bishop Paiute Tribe, Bridgeport Indian Colony, Mono Lake Kootzaduka'a, North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians of California, Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians, and the Tuolumne Band of Me-Wuk Indians.

To learn more about the Native people of Yosemite, park visitors can stop by Wahhoga Village , the last American Indian village in the valley that was dismantled in 1969 with its residents evicted. 

The National Park Service worked with the tribes to construct a roundhouse in the village where Indigenous people perform religious ceremonies that could also be used for public education. 

“They help us construct facilities that are respectful of the land,” Gediman said. 

The tribes also consult the National Park Service on prescribed burns , or cultural burnings, a hundreds-year-old practice meant to reduce the chances of natural wildfires and promote the growth of other plants. 

“We have a very, very close relationship … with the tribes,” Gediman said. “It’s a privilege, if you will, to work with these tribes.”

I refuse to play with my kids — and it makes me a better mom

Before kids, when I was an imaginary mom, I romanticized what fun it would be to set up tea parties for my little ones, complete with stuffed animal guests, petit fours and a toile-patterned tea set. That was back when everything about motherhood was going to be perfect .

Then I actually had kids. It didn’t take long to realize how different motherhood was from what I imagined, and how bored out of my skull I would be by imaginary play. Before having kids, your memories of play are from when you were a kid, aka a time when imaginary play is still fun. As a grown woman, however, pretending to be a dinosaur, princess, ninja, superhero — you name it — sucks what little energy I have remaining right out of my soul after an exhausting day of caretaking for three kids.

In a recent Instagram post , I addressed my strong distaste for any sort of imaginary play with my children, and it went viral. People have a lot of feelings about what I said. To be clear, I’m happy to facilitate an imaginary scenario for my kids — “Here, use this cardboard box and pretend it’s a boat and you’re lost at sea” —  but to see me actually become involved as a character in their fantasy is about as rare as rocking horse poop. I simply choose not to engage with my children that way.

When my kids have asked me to participate in their games in the past, I tell them, “Grown-ups don’t always play the way kids do — that is for you to do on your own. But, if you want, we can go outside for a walk in a little while.” I think of it as a soft hard-pass.

I am a great mom. I have three children, ages 10, 8 and 5. They’re amazing kids. Our relationships are rock-solid. My oldest child battled leukemia for nearly 3.5 years, and I would lay down my life to ensure that my children were well cared for. But my needs as a mother are important, too. I choose to engage with my kids through things we mutually enjoy: conversation, joking, hugs and kisses, singing songs on the way to school in the morning, and even the occasional puzzle or board game when I’m feeling extra carefree. I make concessions on doing things for my kids that I don’t particularly enjoy about a zillion times a day — meals , cleanup , hygiene, scheduling, etc. — and I wholly accept it because these are things I need to do. I will absolutely not be adding “play” to that list. I know doing so would drain me and make me feel resentful, and I really don’t want to use my energy that way. 

I make concessions on doing things for my kids that I don’t particularly enjoy about a zillion times a day — meals, cleanup, hygiene, scheduling, etc. — and I wholly accept it because these are things I need to do. I will absolutely not be adding ‘play’ to that list.

Some people are quite alarmed by the boundaries I’ve set with my children on play. Some have commented that they feel “sad” for my kids, while others have called me “selfish.” To those people, I say: You are entitled to your own beliefs, and if you have enjoyed the experience of playing with your kids, that is awesome for you guys. Knock yourself out, get intoxicated on imaginary tea, live it up — I love that for you! But I will never, ever allow your shame to dictate the way I parent. I am going to be me and while my words may disturb some of you, they also seem to have generated relief for many others. For every negative comment I receive on Instagram, there are about 100 positive ones. 

I have been through quite a bit in my first decade of motherhood and I am proud to say that, while I don’t have all the answers, I know who I am. It is deeply important to me to unsheathe the candy-coated visions of motherhood. I refuse to go along with society’s regular scheduled programming that the motherhood experience is about all-encompassing joy, and that moms must be in love with all aspects of the job. 

Motherhood is the hardest thing I have ever done, but I will keep going and keep doing my best because I love my children and they are unfathomably important to me. There is no one right way to parent. There are no scripts or formulas to follow. Trust your instincts. Your motherhood experience gets to be determined by you , and it’s OK to be honest about it.

ATLANTA (AP) — Hall of Fame manager Bobby Cox made a rare visit to Truist Park for the Atlanta Braves’ game against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday night and received a standing ovation.

Fan cheered after the 83-year-old Cox, was introduced as “the very best manager in the history of the game, our beloved No. 6, Bobby Cox.”

Cox, who led the Braves to the 1995 World Series title and retired after the 2010 season, stood and waved with his left hand. His wife, Pam, became emotional as the ovation continued. Braves manager Brian Snitker joined in the applause as he looked up to the private box where Cox watched the game.

Cox was hospitalized in 2019 following a stroke.

Snitker, who became manager in 2016 and led Atlanta to the 2021 World Series championship, has remained close with Cox and often visits his former boss. Cox visited the Braves’ clubhouse before the game.

“It was awesome,” said Snitker, who said he hopes Cox now attends more games. “We had a great time. It was special. ... Everybody loved seeing him.”

Snitker said players took a team photo with Cox before the game.

Marcell Ozuna said meeting Cox “was amazing.”

“I didn’t know if he knew me, but it was real cool to me to meet him like that,” Ozuna said. “He’s a special guy for the organization.”

Cox was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014. His No. 6 was retired by the Braves.

Cox served two stints as the manager of the Braves. He led the team from 1978-81 before managing the Toronto Blue Jays from 1982-85. He returned to Atlanta as the team’s general manager in 1986 before returning to the dugout in 1991.

He is one of only four managers to be named manager of the year in the AL and NL and overall won the award four times.

A Visit to a Park in English

A park is a place where we can sit, walk or play with friends and family. There are a lot of plants and trees and the ground has grass all over. I visited the ‘Hathi Park’ in Lucknow in winter vacations.

Children were playing games and some people were there for a picnic. We carried Ball and Discus Throw with us. My parents sat on a bench and my brother and I went to play. We threw and caught the disc and after that, we played with the ball. We then asked our mother to take us on the Elephant Statue. We climbed the statue and we could see the entire park from there.

There we saw many types of flowers there were Tulips, Daffodils and Roses of all colours. The wall was covered with Climbers and it looked beautiful. After coming back from the park, I told my mother how much I loved that park and she promised that she will me take me there again soon.

ATLANTA — When Bobby Cox made a rare visit to the ballpark Saturday night, there were many Braves team officials, coaches and fans with moist eyes when the legendary former manager stood and waved to a sellout crowd that gave the 83-year-old Hall of Fame manager and Atlanta icon a long standing ovation during the game against the Philadelphia Phillies .

It was only the second game Cox attended at Truist Park since suffering a stroke in April 2019. His other visit came in 2020 when he watched from Braves chairman Terry McGuirk’s suite in an empty ballpark during the pandemic.

Saturday’s visit was a much happier occasion for everyone. Cox stopped by the clubhouse before the 5-1 win , meeting players who knew of him but had never met him. While Cox’s right arm remains paralyzed and his speech limited, he was in good spirits and seemed as thrilled to see the players as they were to meet him.

“It was awesome,” said Braves manager Brian Snitker, a close friend of Cox, his mentor and former boss. “I brought him in the clubhouse. You don’t realize, none of these guys had ever met him. Once he had his stroke, it’s all these new guys (since then). Everybody went up and introduced themselves, we took a team picture. It was awesome.

“I think he had a great time. I know Pam (his wife) did. That was really special.”

Braves first baseman Matt Olson , an Atlanta-area native who grew up a Braves fan, smiled as he described meeting the man he watched guide the Braves during his childhood.

“My first time meeting him, to be able to shake his hand — I told him he was a legend,” Olson said. “Just a cool moment. I always saw him running the show here growing up, so it was really cool for me.”

“Oh, super cool,” said Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies , who had a home run and three RBIs and was glad the Braves could win the game with Cox present. “He came into the clubhouse. We all said hi to him and took a cool picture. It was phenomenal. Happy to see him doing good.

“We talked, he told me, ‘Hey, good to see you, Ozzie,’ and ‘Keep playing hard.’”

Snitker, who shared details of Cox’s visit to the clubhouse, has seen Cox regularly since the stroke, first in the hospital, then in a rehab center, and eventually at his home in the northern Atlanta suburbs.

“He had a few more words, really,” Snitker said of what Cox was able to say. “I could tell he knew who the players were. He had a really cool reaction when Chris Sale came up and introduced himself. He saw Austin (Riley) and said something about picking (groundballs), and as soon as Ozzie walked in he said his name.”

Like Olson, Marcell Ozuna is one of the veteran players on the team who was most familiar with Cox’s impact on the Braves.

“It’s cool to meet that legend,” Ozuna said. “Lot of World Series and a lot of winning titles in this organization. He’s one of the special guys for the organization. I feel happy for him, that he’s still alive and that he can recognize everyone.”

Pam Cox stood next to her husband in the private suite where some family members, plus McGuirk and a few others, watched the game. When Cox was shown on the large video board in center field, dramatic music played and the stadium P.A. announcer asked the crowd to greet “the very best manager in the history of the game, our beloved No. 6, Bobby Cox.”

Fans and media weren’t made aware that Cox would be at the game, and when he appeared on the video board, the ovation was immediate and grew louder. Pam Cox fought back tears, as did countless fans who could be seen wiping their eyes as Cox stood, smiling and waving. His No. 6, retired by the Braves, was shown on the board as the ovation continued.

“We were talking and I said, this place is gonna go nuts when they see him,” said Snitker, who stood in the dugout and clapped, doing his best to fight back emotions as well. “They did a great job with the presentation. I’m glad he experienced that because hopefully, he’ll come back. Everybody loved seeing him. Holy cow, that was pretty special.”

On Thursday, July 4, the Wawa Welcome America July 4th Concert and Fireworks returns to the Benjamin Franklin Parkway for the culmination of the sixteen-day independence celebration.

Attendees can explore the 2024 Welcome America story map on the City’s website to review important public safety information. The map helps members of the public find Parkway amenities such as jumbotrons and porta-potties. It also indicates stations for medical help and security. The story map , available at phila.gov/america , also includes road closure maps for the Parkway area and Old City.

July 4th Concert and Fireworks

Philadelphia’s legendary July 4th Concert features performances by three-time GRAMMY® Award-winning R&B hitmaker, iconic songwriter, actor, entrepreneur, and philanthropist Ne-Yo, and Grammy-nominated and award-winning musician, actress and activist Kesha.

Prior to the concert, guests will enjoy a collaborative performance by DJ Diamond Kuts and Snacktime Philly on the Pennsylvania Lottery Groove Stage on the Parkway from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The concert will begin on the main stage at 7 p.m.

How to Enter the Parkway Events

The Wawa Welcome America July 4th Concert & Fireworks is open to the public and free to attend.  

Gates for the concert open at 4 p.m. Guests will be directed to enter the event venue at the secured entry point at the following location: 

• 20th Street and Benjamin Franklin Parkway (Logan Circle)

*If you have a ticket for the front section, you must enter at 22nd Street & Pennsylvania Avenue. OR 22nd & Winter Streets . 

All guests must go through a security check upon entering, including magnetometers and bag checks.

Guests are encouraged to arrive early to avoid any traffic delays or heavy pedestrian traffic. The Parkway is general admission and occupied on a first-come-first-served basis.

The vicinity of the Wawa Welcome America July Fourth Concert & Fireworks (a boundary from at least 19th Street and Benjamin Franklin Parkway to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and adjacent areas), will be secured and protected for a safe and fun celebration. Throughout the Wawa Welcome America festivities, the City will provide enhanced law enforcement and emergency medical services. The City and Welcome America are coordinating with local, state and federal public safety authorities to ensure everyone can safely enjoy the Fourth of July.

For the safety of event attendees and participants, unauthorized sUAS/drone usage is prohibited over crowds by the FAA. If you see a drone at an event, please report it to the nearest police officer with a location and description of the operator.

The Philadelphia Fire Department’s EMS Division will have medic teams spread across the Parkway at the following locations:

Weather and heat precautions

With the potential for high temperatures, there is a risk of heat-related health issues. Many heat stress or heat exhaustion issues can be avoided by taking simple precautions.

Attendees should follow all proper precautions to protect themselves and their families against the heat. All festival-goers should stay hydrated by drinking lots of water, and avoiding alcoholic beverages, caffeine, and excessive layers of clothing.

Welcome America July 4th Concert and Fireworks is an accessible event and is dedicated to ensuring access to people of all abilities. Benjamin Franklin Parkway is a wheelchair-accessible roadway that features flat surfaces and curb cutouts.

Portable toilets, including ADA-compliant units, will be available throughout the Parkway.

There will be multiple screens throughout the festival grounds for people to see the stage. 

Please refer to the 2024 Welcome America story map , which identifies these locations. 

What Can I Bring?

The following items are permitted at Welcome America events:

• Personal food & beverage (no alcoholic beverages)
• Small personal coolers
• Pets on leashes
• Chairs and blankets (not permitted in the ticketed front section)

Please note: all persons and/or their belongings are subject to search as a condition of entry into the July 4th Concert and Fireworks. 

When in doubt, leave it home! 

Keep possessions and bags with you always and do not leave them unattended.

Items NOT allowed inside the festival footprint

For the safety of event attendees and staff, the following items are prohibited:

• Weapons and contraband of any kind regardless of permitting, e.g. Right-to-Carry permits will not be honored, and entry will be denied.
• Fireworks, firecrackers, or explosives (including sparklers)
• Open flame of any kind
• Illegal or illicit substances of any kind (does not pertain to individual prescribed medication)
• Flyers, handbills, posters, stickers (no solicitation allowed)
• Full face coverings, such as ski masks and balaclavas (this does not apply to COVID-19 masks or faith-based coverings)
• Unauthorized commerce
• Items that would obstruct others’ view (large signs, banners, etc.)
• Drones and any other unmanned and remote-controlled devices
• ATVS, dirt bikes, skateboards, rollerblades, bicycles, segways, hoverboards, and similar items (cannot be brought into the event space)
• Glass Containers
• Laser pointers
• Selfie Sticks
• Any other item or action deemed dangerous or inappropriate by production or security management

Lost children

Parents or guardians should report a missing child to the nearest law enforcement officer, medic, private security representative, or information booth as soon as possible.

Public safety officials will coordinate the search for missing children with the full support of the Philadelphia Police Department.

Be sure to take a photo of your child before arriving at the Welcome America events. If separated, this will be very helpful for those searching for your child. It’s also recommended to have children memorize their parent’s cell phone numbers.

Lost and found

If you’ve lost a personal belonging, look for the nearest information booth where you last had the item. Wawa Welcome America staff can check if the item has been returned there or at other information booths.

After July 4, lost items can be reclaimed by contacting the Welcome America office at [email protected] .

Getting to the Parkway events

Philadelphia’s mass transit system, SEPTA, offers two subway lines, regional rail service to and from the surrounding suburbs, and bus service throughout the city.

Regional rail service, the Market Frankford Line, and the Broad Street Line will operate on a Sunday schedule with additional cars added to increase rider capacity at the break of the event. Check the Regional Rail extended train service schedule and the SEPTA website for more details.

• Bus Detours: Due to road closures, buses that travel on or near the Parkway will be detoured starting at 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 4 through 5 p.m. on Friday, July 5. Routes detoured: 7, 32, 33, 38, 43, 48 and 49. 

SEPTA travel tips:

• On Thursday, July 4, please refer to the Sunday schedule of the SEPTA service you wish to ride. Routes that do not offer Sunday service will not operate
• The Ben Franklin Parkway is best accessed from the 15th Street Market-Frankford Line Station and Race-Vine or City Hall Broad Street Line Station
• Visit the Fares section for fare and SEPTA Key information
• Download the SEPTA App for iPhone and Android devices. Visit the Google Play or Apple App Store and look for the official SEPTA App.
• The SEPTA Customer Service Call Center (215) 580-7800 will open from 8 a.m. to  8 p.m. on Thursday, July 4.

Designated rideshare and taxi drop-off points for the July Fourth Concert will be 17th and Spring Garden Street. 

Cyclists and Pedestrians

The Benjamin Franklin Parkway is easily accessible via cycling and walking. Keep in mind that if a road is closed to vehicular traffic, it is also closed to cycling. Walking paths will remain open for pedestrians as conditions allow; however, please follow all posted signs, detours and traffic control devices.

• The Kelly Drive bike path (river side) between Eakins Oval and Sedgley Drive will be closed to cyclists and pedestrians beginning at 5 p.m. until the conclusion of the fireworks for safety concerns.

President Joe Biden to visit Wisconsin in wake of debate performance

MADISON — President Joe Biden will visit Madison on Friday in one of his first stops on the trail following last week's debate against former President Donald Trump, his campaign confirmed.

The New York Times previously reported that the White House was considering sending the president to meet with Democratic governors and campaign in the battleground states of Wisconsin and Pennsylvania as he seeks to shore up support following a rocky debate performance.

Several Democratic governors discussed the president's debate performance in a call on Monday, and the president was set to meet with governors both virtually and in person at the White House on Wednesday.

A spokeswoman for Democratic Gov. Tony Evers said he did not participate in the call with Democratic governors on Monday and does not currently plan to join the Wednesday call. Evers is "tentatively planning to attend" Biden's Friday campaign event in Madison.

Biden stumbled over his words during the debate and at times gave meandering answers, leading some Democrats to call for him to be replaced at the top of the ticket.

Asked last week about the debate, Evers voiced support for Biden because "he’s a man of integrity, he’s helped bring good-paying jobs and infrastructure projects to help build Wisconsin’s economy for the future, he’ll protect reproductive freedom and restore Roe, he’s lowering costs and fighting for working families — and the list goes on. 

"At the end of the day, I think the choice in this election is clear, and it’s always been clear. One debate doesn’t change how President Biden has delivered for Wisconsin over the last three and a half years. I supported President Biden four years ago, and I support him still today," Evers said in a statement.

Democratic U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin, who is fending off a challenge from Republican businessman Eric Hovde as she seeks a third term, will not attend Biden's event in Madison. A campaign spokesman said she would continue with an already planned "Fired Up for Tammy" tour, which has stops scheduled in northeastern Wisconsin on Friday.

“Tammy Baldwin is running her own race for the people of Wisconsin,” a campaign spokesman told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel last week in response to questions about whether Baldwin still supported Biden as the nominee. “Her focus will always be on showing up across the state, listening to working Wisconsinites, and fighting to make their lives better.”

Baldwin’s campaign initially declined to say whether Baldwin supported Biden as Democrats’ 2024 nominee before responding, “Tammy supports the president.” She appeared alongside the president when he  visited Superior in January  but was not present when Biden returned to Wisconsin in March, April and May.

In the days following the debate, several Biden surrogates have visited the state to stump for the president.

U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn, a South Carolina Democrat whose endorsement of Biden in  2020 was instrumental to his campaign , met with faith leaders, voting rights activists and local officials for a roundtable discussion at Coffee Makes You Black, a Black-owned business and community space in Milwaukee.

And Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, seen as a rising star in the Democratic Party, campaigned for Biden in Milwaukee over the weekend weekend as part of a  blitz to mobilize voters  and, in Moore’s case, to boost enthusiasm for the president in the Black community.

"With his political career on the rocks, Joe Biden is fleeing to Madison in a desperate attempt to save both his campaign and presidency," Republican Party of Wisconsin spokesman Matt Fisher said in a statement. "The fact Tammy Baldwin refuses to appear with him highlights the dire straits Wisconsin Democrats are facing this November."

Description

Join Park Rangers and volunteers in celebrating the 54th Anniversary of the Morgan Horse Ranch on Saturday, July 13th! Drop in any time from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. The event will include riding and roping demonstrations, games, activities and crafts for kids, community partners, and much more! This event is free and open to the public.

The Morgan Horse Ranch was established at Point Reyes National Seashore in 1970 as a breeding program for the National Park Service. At its height, park rangers from throughout the service would come to Point Reyes for horsemanship classes, and the ranch maintained a herd of 35 to 40 horses. Morgan horses raised here in the Seashore were used by rangers in parks across for trail patrol, events, Search and Rescue, and packing supplies into the wilderness. Today, the Point Reyes Morgan Horse Ranch has a smaller herd of six horses--all of whom will be making an appearance at the celebration!

Directions and Parking

The Morgan Horse Ranch is located on a hill above the  Bear Valley Visitor Center . Park in one of the large lots adjacent to the visitor center, and walk up the maintenance road located at the southeastern end of these lots. With a disability parking placard or plate, you may drive your vehicle along this road to a small parking area close to the ranch. Exhibit areas are accessible. Parking is free.
