Ultimately, life means different things to different people. It is a subjective experience shaped by our individual beliefs, values, and experiences. Life is Beautiful Explained:

Life is a beautiful journey filled with ups and downs, challenges and triumphs. It’s a rollercoaster ride with unexpected twists and turns. Every day brings something new and exciting, whether it’s a small moment of joy or a major milestone.

But what makes life truly beautiful? Is it the material possessions we acquire, the relationships we form, or the experiences we have? While these things can bring us happiness, they don’t solely define the beauty of life.

One of the key aspects of a beautiful life is gratitude. Being grateful for what we have and living in the present moment can help us appreciate the simple things in life that often go unnoticed. It also allows us to find joy and contentment in our everyday lives.

Another factor that contributes to a beautiful life is connection. Building meaningful relationships and connecting with others on a deeper level can bring us a sense of belonging and purpose. It’s through these connections that we learn and grow, shaping who we are.

Lastly, finding our passion and pursuing it can add immense beauty to our lives. Whether it’s a hobby, career or cause, having something that ignites our soul and gives us purpose can bring a sense of fulfillment and joy.

In conclusion, life is beautiful when we open our hearts to gratitude, connection, and passion. It’s not about the destination but rather the journey itself. Embrace all that life has to offer, both the good and the bad, for it’s these experiences that make life truly beautiful. So let’s cherish each moment, live with purpose, and spread love and kindness wherever we go.

Life is Long Journey Between Human Being and Being Human

  • 01 Aug 2023

“You have to grow from the inside out. None can teach you; none can make you spiritual. There is no other teacher but your own soul.”

Swami Vivekananda

As we embark on the journey of life , we traverse a path filled with diverse experiences, encounters, and challenges. Each step we take, every decision we make, and every interaction we have contributes to the shade of our existence. This journey serves as an opportunity for profound self-discovery, growth, and understanding.

Throughout our lives, we encounter various situations that shape our identity and perspective. We may face triumphs and successes that boost our confidence and provide a sense of accomplishment. Simultaneously, we encounter failures and setbacks that test our resilience and offer valuable lessons for personal development. These experiences collectively contribute to our growth as individuals and shape the unique fabric of our being.

The concept of being human extends beyond mere existence as a member of the Homo sapiens species . It encompasses the ideals of compassion , empathy, self-awareness, and moral consciousness. To be human is to embrace our capacity for reason, creativity, and the pursuit of truth and justice. It is a lifelong endeavor to cultivate our humanity and foster a harmonious coexistence with others and the world around us.

However, the path towards being human is not a straightforward one. It is a complex and often arduous journey that requires introspection , self-reflection, and growth. The process of self-evaluation, free from bias and unaffected by personal preferences, is an essential aspect of personal growth regarding being human. Typically, humans have a tendency to prioritize their own ideologies and preferences.

Individuals often strive to justify their thoughts and actions , even if they may not align with reality. It is the ego that prevents individuals from acknowledging their shortcomings and falsehoods, hindering their ability to truly accept their weaknesses and lack of understanding. However, the journey towards being human involves acknowledging these limitations and rejecting false notions of self-importance. By embracing humility and recognizing the need for improvement, individuals can transition from human being to being truly human. Generally, an individual spends a significant portion of their lives simply being human , going through the motions without truly understanding or embodying the essence of their humanity. They may be driven by primal instincts, societal expectations , or personal ambitions , losing sight of the fundamental values that define our shared humanity.

To embark on the transformative journey from human being to being human, the development of profound self-awareness is paramount. Self-awareness is the inherent ability of the mind to integrate both the external and internal worlds. However, the inclination of the mind is often to align itself with the side that is more convenient for the individual. Nevertheless, an aware mind always takes the side of righteousness , regardless of convenience. Examining our thoughts, emotions, and actions becomes crucial in this process. We must question the motives and consequences behind them. By gaining a better understanding of ourselves, we can effectively identify our strengths and weaknesses, biases and prejudices . This self-examination empowers us to actively personal inner growth and enlightenment.

Human beings have the capacity for reason and logical thinking . We can analyze information, solve problems, make decisions based on evidence and critical thinking, and pursue knowledge and understanding.

Furthermore, being human requires us to cultivate empathy and compassion towards others. It involves recognizing the inherent dignity and worth of every individual, regardless of their background, beliefs, or circumstances . Through empathy, we can transcend our own perspectives and connect with the experiences and emotions of others, fostering understanding and fostering a more inclusive and compassionate society. True humans possess the ability to understand and share the feelings of others . They demonstrate empathy by showing kindness, compassion, and a genuine concern for the well-being of others. They strive to alleviate suffering and promote the welfare of those around them.

Integrity and honesty are fundamental characteristics of being human, as true humans uphold moral and ethical principles. They exhibit truthfulness, trustworthiness, and dependability in both their words and actions. They prioritize doing what is right, even when it conflicts with personal gain or convenience. Being human entails a deep respect for the dignity, autonomy, and rights of all individuals. True human value diversity and treat others with fairness, openness , and tolerance, irrespective of differences in race, gender, religion, or any other attribute. They actively cultivate an inclusive and accepting environment.

A key characteristic of true humans is assuming responsibility for their actions and decisions. They take accountability for the outcomes resulting from their choices and readily acknowledge their mistakes or shortcomings to learn from them. They possess an awareness of how their behavior impacts themselves, others, and the world at large. These individuals exhibit humility by recognizing their limitations, being open-minded to diverse ideas, perspectives, and feedback. They foster a mindset of lifelong learning and willingly challenge their own beliefs and biases. They demonstrate courage in the face of challenges, adversity, and fear, displaying resilience and determination to overcome obstacles. They embrace personal growth, viewing setbacks as opportunities for learning and development.

Individuals willingly dedicate their time, resources, and abilities to assist others without expecting anything in return. They actively contribute to enhancing their communities and strive to positively impact the lives of those around them. These individuals seek wisdom through introspection, self-reflection, and continuous personal growth. They draw lessons from their experiences, develop a deeper understanding of themselves and others, and make thoughtful decisions based on insight and discernment. True humans embrace love as a fundamental aspect of their existence, fostering meaningful connections with family, friends , and the broader human community . They express love, care, and support, nurturing a sense of belonging and interconnectedness.

Becoming a true human is an ongoing journey that extends throughout a lifetime, acknowledging that perfection is unattainable. These characteristics serve as a guiding framework for personal growth and ethical conduct, but it's crucial to approach them with humility, empathy , and a dedication to constant self-improvement.

“The moment I have realized God sitting in the temple of every human body, the moment I stand in reverence before every human being and see God in him - that moment I am free from bondage, everything that binds vanishes, and I am free.”

Essay on Life | Life Essay for Students and Children in English

February 13, 2024 by Prasanna

Essay on Life : Life is one word that comes with multiple meanings and experiences. Above all life is not just about existence but also about how an individual defines that existence. Hence, it is important to look at life not just from one single perspective. Philosophers, scholars, poets and authors have written much about what constitutes living and more importantly what are the necessary items that define someone’s life. Ofcourse this exercise has been done in various ways. While philosophers would try to find the meaning and purpose behind the life of individuals, poets and authors would document the richness of life at various stages. Life is thus perhaps something that is more than intriguing.

Here we have provided sample essays on life which includes both long and short essays that can serve the purpose of a lot of students in light of their examinations.

You can read more  Essay Writing  about articles, events, people, sports, technology many more.

Long and Short Life Essay in English for Students and Kids

We have written over here two sample essays on life which includes a long essay of 500 words, short essay of 100-150 words and ten important points that highlight the subject matter of the essay.

Long Essay on Life in English 500 words

Wordsworth had remarked long ago that our lives are a reflection of the lives in heaven. While many might find that too far-fetched, life is nevertheless very precious. Had it not been so, none would have made efforts to cling on to it as long as possible. The one thing about life that is integral to it is existence. Life includes existence and without existence life cannot happen. Existence is however sometimes challenging. There are many who do not have the fortune to get good education, there are some who do not have access to food and shelter.

For them existence is difficult and life is despicably harsh. But just like existence is an important feature about life, another such element is hope. Hope is what people cling on to when they find darkness taking over their lives. Hope is what gives way to survival. Survival and hope are important aspects for anyone and everyone as far as life and living is considered.

The world these days, governed by competition, makes survival the most difficult thing. And for those whose existence is challenging hope is the only way of survival. This is one way, life can be summed up in words. The fact however is, life cannot be summed up in words. Words fail to express the meaning and purpose that anyone feels he or she has in life. For some it might be to create or build something, for someone it might be gaining knowledge, for someone it might be to have fun.

None of these outlooks can be said to be better or worse in terms of the other. It shows how people look at their individual lives as well as the life of others around them so as to make a sense of what they do with their existence on earth. Meaning and purpose however are both difficult to find. Experiences are a major part of life. In fact it guides an individual through his life till his death. Each experience is a lesson for those who come by it. Some intend to learn from their experiences while others tend to ignore it. Experiences are what make it difficult for someone to find the meaning and purpose of his life.

A new experience every time influences a person’s way of looking at life. Thus, there cannot be one single way in which one cannot look at life. Consequently there cannot be one single meaning and purpose that one might find to his or her life. Some of us, especially the ones who suffer in life, try to relate it to the lives of people around us who have suffered the same or more.

Often in the process of doing this we resort to autobiographies and biographies. While one is written by the person who feels the other is written by a person who documents such feelings. But both represent life in a completely different way.

It shows how life carries on even after death, almost taking the course of the ancient Egyptians who believed the same. But nevertheless, life and 58558520 the legacy about it remains even after death. Therefore, if we put it in another way, life is infinite and continues beyond death.

Christians believe that the soul leaves the body after death, and the body goes back to dust. Life is not about the body or the soul. Life is what is beyond the body and the soul. That is the reason why it continues even after death in various forms. This essay can be used for students of classes 7, 8, 9, 10 for their exams and assessments.

Life Is a Journey, Not a Destination

Ralph Waldo Emerson? Lynn H. Hough? Aerosmith? Anonymous?

Question for Quote Investigator: Ralph Waldo Emerson is often credited with the following:

Life is a journey, not a destination.

I’ve searched the RWE.org database without luck and did a text search through over 1100 pages of his essays. I believe this is a misattribution. Any insight you have into the lineage of this quote would be much appreciated.

Reply from Quote Investigator: An exact match for the expression above has not been found in the oeuvre of Ralph Waldo Emerson. Yet, Emerson did write a thematically related remark: 1

To finish the moment, to find the journey’s end in every step of the road, to live the greatest number of good hours, is wisdom.

This sentence suggested a psychological vantage point in which the intermediate advances of the journey were representative of the completion of the journey. This is arguably a distinct statement from the questioner’s saying which is listed in “The Dictionary of Modern Proverbs” without attachment to a specific person. 2

The earliest close match located by QI appeared in 1920 in a periodical called “The Christian Advocate”. The phrase was used by the theologian Lynn H. Hough within his outline for a Sunday School Lesson discussing a letter from Simon Peter. Bold face has been added to the phrase here and some phrases below: 3

He wanted his friends to realize that life is a journey and not a destination ; that the heart must be set upon those matters of character which are eternal and not upon those matters of sensation which pass away.

Interesting precursors of the expression were in circulation in the previous century. In 1854 “The Sunday at Home: A Family Magazine for Sabbath Reading” printed a “Page for the Young” with the following advice: 4

You should learn in early youth that your life is a journey, not a rest . You are travelling to the promised land, from the cradle to the grave.

In 1855 another religious text used a variant phrase and provided an explanation: 5

All life is a journey, not a home ; it is a road, not the country; and those transient enjoyments which you have in this life, lawful in their way,—those incidental and evanescent pleasures which you may sip,—are not home; they are little inns only upon the road-side of life, where you are refreshed for a moment, that you may take again the pilgrim-staff and journey on, seeking what is still before you—the rest that remaineth for the people of God.

A decade later the passage above was reprinted in a collection entitled “A Cyclopaedia of Illustrations of Moral and Religious Truths”; however, it was labeled ANON. 6

Here are additional selected citations in chronological order.

In 1920 “ life is a journey and not a destination ” was written in a book by the pastor Lynn H. Hough as discussed previously in this article.

In 1922 another variant of the saying was printed which emphasized an experiential theme instead of a religious one: 7

But we stupid mortals, or most of us, are always in haste to reach somewhere else, forgetting that the zest is in the journey and not in the destination .

In 1926 the trope was applied to the domain of love within a verse using eccentric capitalization: 8

LOVE To SOME men Is NOT a DESTINATION. It is just A FLIGHT OF FANCY . A RUSHING EMOTION between BUSINESS and AMBITION that Keeps them FOREVER ON THE HOP.

In 1929 an essay by a high school student employed a version of the saying with the word “success”. The words were enclosed in quotation marks suggesting that the adage was already in circulation: 9

You know, “ success is not a destination, but a journey .”

Yet another variant of the expression was in circulation by 1930: 10

Prof J. C. Archer of Yale University will speak on “ Religion a Journey and Not a Destination ” at the monthly “church night” gathering at Memorial church tomorrow night.

In 1935 a story in the Cleveland Plain Dealer presented a variant: 11

“Helen, somebody has said that happiness is a journey—not a destination . You have it as you go along. You’ve been very happy with two different people.

In 1936 the book “I Knew Them in Prison” by Mary B. Harris invoked two versions 12 of the adage at once: 13

Reformation, like education, is a journey, not a destination.

In 1937 another instance of the maxim about education was printed in a California newspaper: 14

Reporting on education, Mrs. S. G. Stooke said that education is a journey and not a destination , for we must keep developing.

In 1993 the rock band Aerosmith released the song Amazing as a single. The lyrics were written by Steven Tyler and Richie Supa, and they included an instance of the saying: 15

Life’s a journey not a destination And I just can’t tell just what tomorrow brings

In the 2006 movie “Peaceful Warrior” a character named Dan Millman was led on a three-hour trek to a remote location by his mentor, a character named ‘Socrates’ who embodied a wise man archetype. Millman was excited and happy during the trip because he expected to be shown something important and when he was shown a non-descript rock he was initially disappointed. But after reflection Millman said the following to Socrates: 16

Dan Millman: The journey… the journey is what brings us happiness… not the destination

Many of the examples above conform to the following flexible phrasal template. The linguistic term snowclone is used for these collections of related phrases:

X is a journey, not a destination

In conclusion, current evidence indicates that the phrase under investigation is an anonymous modern proverb that entered circulation by 1920.

Acknowledgement: Thanks to Jack Herring for his query on this topic. This question was constructed by QI based on his inquiry. Also, thanks to Dan Goncharoff for noting the relevant quotation due to Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Update History: On September 2, 2012 the 1844 citation for Emerson was added together with the reference to the film Peaceful Warrior. On February 27, 2024 the format of the bibliographical notes was updated.

Dealing with Challenges

Challenges require us to get out of our comfort zone. These can be difficult to deal with. However, we must deal with them with courage and determination. Here are some ways to deal with the challenges in life:

No matter what the situation is we must deal with it calmly. We shall be able to think of a solution and act upon it only if we stay calm. If we stress about it continually we shall not be able to act wisely.

  • Stay Determined

No matter how hard the situation gets, the key is to stay determined and keep going. We must not give up half way.

  • Seek Help from Family and Friends

There is no harm in seeking help from family and friends whenever there is a need. However, we must not depend upon them completely.

Set Goals; Give Purpose to Life

It is important to set goals in life. We must set both long term and short term goals for our personal as well as professional life and work hard to achieve them. Goals give purpose to our life. To set goals, we must first understand what we want in life and then make a plan to achieve it. We must always set a time frame for achieving our goals.

While challenges take us through new experiences and make us stronger, goals help us stay focused. Both challenges and goals are important in life.

Essay on Life in 400 words – It is a Precious Gift

Life is a precious gift. It must be handled with care. We must be thankful to God for sending us on Earth and giving us such beautiful surroundings to live in. Appreciate Life and Express Gratitude

We must appreciate the good in our life and express gratitude for the same. Many people are not happy with the way things go on in their life. They criticize almost everything and everyone around and develop a negative outlook. They need to understand that the fact that they have been given a life to live is in itself a big thing.

The fact that they are in good health is a reason to be thankful for. The fact that they are able and can work hard and make their life better is another reason to be grateful. They must appreciate what they have and be thankful for it. Everything else can be achieved with some effort.

Don’t Waste Life

Many people indulge in bad habits such as smoking, drinking and taking drugs. The havoc created post consuming these can be a threat to their life as well as the life of those around them. Many people drink and run over their car on innocent people killing them or injuring them badly. They even hurt themselves during such incidents. Besides, all these things have a negative impact on a person’s health.

They incur serious health problems over the time thus ruining their lives as well as the lives of their family members. They must understand that life is precious. We can lead a purposeful life and add value to it or waste it and end up in a mess. Many people realize this much later in life mostly after incurring a major problem. It is too late then and they cannot go back and relive their life properly. We must value this gift called life when there is still time and tread the right path to enjoy it.

God has given us a chance to live and enjoy the beauty of the nature. Life is a precious gift and we must all value it. We must express gratitude and stay positive to make the most of this gift given to us. We must also value the lives of those around us.

Essay on Life in 500 words – It is a Journey not a Destination

There is a mad rush all around us. In schools, offices, businesses and even in households – people are running around, chasing different things and trying to achieve things as fast as they can as if they are about to miss a train. This eagerness and restlessness to get somewhere is what they pass on to their kids too and it goes on and on. Where exactly do we want to reach? And how will we feel when we reach there? We need to slow down and ask ourselves these questions.

We must understand that life is a journey not a destination. This means that we need to go through it slowly and calmly enjoying every moment and making the most of it rather than rushing through it.

Find Happiness in Little Things

We often overlook the little things in life and keep chasing the bigger things believing they will give us happiness. While achieving our big dreams and goals does give us satisfaction however it is the little things in life that bring us true happiness. These are the things that bring a smile to our face later in life. For instance, parents keep telling their children to behave nicely, study dedicatedly and sleep on time.

They do all this to inculcate discipline in them. They want them to focus on their studies so that they can choose a good stream and build a rewarding career. They believe that all this will help them get a good life partner and build a happy personal life too. They have good intentions but are they really doing good to their children? In a way, no as they are stealing the precious moments of their lives that could be spent more joyfully.

Enjoy the Journey of Life; Don’t Rush Through it

The first twenty years of a person’s life are spent in mugging up their chapters and attempting to fetch good marks. Children are repeatedly told that they can enjoy once they get a good job. When they get a good job, they are asked to work hard to get to a good position in the company. Then they are told that they can enjoy their life after they reach a certain position.

When they reach a good position in the company, they require working hard to maintain the position. It is also time for them to plan a family and fulfill various responsibilities. They are then told that they can live peacefully and enjoy life once they retire. No one even thinks that they will not be left with the same enthusiasm, energy and zeal to enjoy life when they enter that age.

Life is happening now. We must enjoy it here and now and not wait to reach a certain position or phase of life to start living the way we want.

It is important to set goals and work hard towards achieving them. We must also set deadlines for our goals, stay focused and utilize our time wisely to achieve the desired result. What we should avoid is to rush towards them. We will come across many new things as we head towards our goals. All these will make us stronger and wiser. We should allow ourselves to see and experience these new things and learn from them rather than rushing towards the goal.

Long Essay on Life in 600 words – True Value of Life

We all have just one life. We are here on Earth for a limited period of time and do not know when our time will end. We must thus make the most of the time we have. We must do good deeds, help as much as we can, appreciate the beauty around us and stay positive. We must value life and be grateful for all that we have as not many are lucky to have the kind of life we do.

True Value of Life by Philosophers

Different philosophers, scholars and literary people have defined the true value of life in different ways. As per poet Henry David, “There is no value in life except what you choose to place upon it.” “The true value of a human being can be found in the degree to which he has attained liberation from the self”, said Albert Einstein.

On the other hand, Myles Munroe states, “The value of life is not in its duration. You are not important because of how long you live, you are important because of how effective you live.

Identify the Purpose of Life

Different people indulge in different activities each day. Some people study, some do the household chores, some work on business plans, some work for an employer and some just enjoy and vile away their time.

Some people accomplish more than one or two of these tasks each day. They keep working on these tasks day in and day out and may take a break on the weekends. They may plan a holiday for a day or two or roam around locally to rejuvenate but as the next week begins, they start with their routine tasks yet again. Whether they like it or not they keep slogging every day as they feel that this is what they are meant to do.

However, this is a wrong perception. These daily tasks are just a way to survive in this world. We study, tidy our house, cook food, go to work and earn money just so that we can live comfortably. This is not our real purpose of life. It does not add value to our soul.

God has sent us on this Earth with a purpose. We need to identify this purpose and work towards achieving it. Once we know the purpose and successfully achieve it, we must then understand how it can help those around us and look for ways to assist them. Each one of us has been bestowed with a special power or gift. We must share it with others to make the world a more beautiful place to live in.

Count Your Blessings

We must value everything and everyone in our life. Nothing in our life should be taken for granted. We must value our parents, our siblings, our friends, our job, our house, our belongings and everything God has bestowed on us. And above all, we must value our life.

We must be grateful to the almighty for giving us the ability to take care of ourselves. We must always look at the positive side of life. We should count our blessings and value them. God has given us so many things to appreciate and we must thank him by helping those around us. We must help them live a better life.

We are born to serve humanity and make this world a better place. We must be thankful for all that we have and stay humble. We are all blessed with some unique power. Our purpose is to identify it and use it for uplifting ourselves as well as everyone around us. This is the true value of our life.

Life is Beautiful

by Roberto Benigni

  • Life is Beautiful Summary

Life is Beautiful opens on a note of hilarity as the protagonist, Guido, and his best friend, Ferruccio, rocket down a country slope, the brakes on their rickety old car having given way. They pass through a parade, and the audience is immediately aware of where we are: the bystanders, believing Guido to be a Fascist leader, all raise their arms in the "Heil Hitler" sign. While Ferruccio attempts to fix the car, Guido happens upon a little farm, where the woman who is to become the love of his life literally falls from the sky into his arms. "Good morning, princess!" he cries, grinning widely.

Guido and Ferruccio find lodgings with Guido's uncle, Eliseo, who recently has come under attack by Fascists. Eliseo also helps Guido to get a job as a waiter in a fancy hotel. Guido visits a moneylender in an effort to secure a loan to open up a bookshop, and he soon realizes that the disagreeable man, Amico, who refuses his loan is also the betrothed of the woman who fell into his arms, Dora. The following series of events demonstrates what a truly extraordinary character Guido is: he is uniquely capable of manipulating his surroundings so that events that are "coincidences" take on the aura of genuine magic. It is this ability that ultimately sways Dora: on one rainy night, Guido virtually steals her away from the insipid Amico and takes her on a journey through her imagination to a place where pillows can be used as skirts, the Virgin Mary throws keys from the heavens, and red carpets unroll through darkened piazzas.

At Dora's engagement party to Amico, she decides once and for all to run away with the mysterious man who keeps appearing out of nowhere. Guido rides Uncle Eliseo's horse (which has been painted green and graffitied with the words "Jewish horse") into the ballroom and spirits her away to the home where they are to leave for several joyful years. They have a son, Giosue, who has his father's enthusiasm for life and his mother's tendency to hiccup.

A far darker event occurs: Guido begins to be harrassed by the Fascists. Soon he, Eliseo, and Giosue are taken away on a train to a concentration camp. Dora, refusing to be left behind, insists that she be allowed to go to the camp as well.

At the camp, Guido decides that he will create an elaborate ruse to protect his son from the horror of their situation. He tells Giosue that his own father took him on a "trip" just like this one when he was a boy, and that if he stays silent, does not cry or ask for his mother, and obeys all the rules, he will win points. After he wins 1,000 points, he will get first prize: a real tank. Giosue, excited at the idea, approaches the camp as a game rather than what it truly is: a prison.

The three adults go in very different directions once at the camp. Eliseo, since he is an old man, is taken to the showers. Dora goes to the women's camp, where she hears stories about the children being slaughtered and fears for the safety of her husband and son. Guido and Giosue go to the barracks, where Guido continues to imbue the darkness of the camp with an air of levity and joy. He even commandeers the loudspeaker so that he and Giosue can cry out to Dora that they miss her and love her.

Guido's hope for escape arrives when he is asked to be a waiter at an event where Doctor Lessing , an old friend of his from the restaurant back home, now a doctor in the Nazi army, will be dining. Doctor Lessing, however, ignores the gravity of Guido's situation; it seems that he only wanted Guido to wait tables at the party because he needed help solving a riddle. Desolate, Guido takes Giosue back to the barracks, but not before stopping to play the Offenbach opera that he and Dora once attended over the loudspeaker in an effort to lift his wife's spirits.

Soon the war is over, and the camp is thrown into a state of confusion and panic. All of the prisoners are being loaded onto trucks that are returning empty. Desperate to warn Dora, Guido tells Giosue to hide in a cabinet until everyone has gone, dons women's clothing, and sneaks over to the women's camp. He is discovered, but as he is marched off to his death, he manages to give his son one last moment of joy: as he walks by the cabinet where Giosue is hiding, he throws his son a wink and does a funny little walk--playing the game to the bitter end.

When morning arrives Giosue, seeing that everyone has gone, tentatively crawls out of the cabinet. He looks around in confusion and then hears a rumbling in the distance. His eyes light up: a real tank is rounding the corner! He has won! An American soldier pulls him up into the tank, and they ride out of the camp. As they pass the crowds of escaped prisoners, Giosue recognizes his mother and runs to her. She wraps him in a tight embrace. "We won!" he cries out. "Yes, we won," Dora says.

Technically, life is associated with feelings, growth and evolution. Like the plants have life because they grow; humans and animals have life as they feel sadness, happiness and they too grow.

The journey of life may not always be smooth but we must keep going and stay positive all the times. Life is the most precious asset on this planet and must be protected irrespective of its form and appearance. Every species, not only humans, have a fundamental right to live their life, I whatever way they desire. Life is a gift of God to humanity and any attempt to disrupt or damage it will have undesirable consequences.

Short Essay on Life: Life is Beautiful but Not a Bed of Roses – Essay 1 (200 words)

There is a lot of stress all around us these days. Most people complain about problems at office, issues in relationships and the growing competition in various fields. People are so engrossed in dealing with these issues that they don’t see the real beauty of life. There is so much more to life than these things. In fact, if we look at life closely, we will realize how beautiful it is. God has given us an abundance of everything. This is evident when we look at the nature. The trees, plants, rivers and sunlight – everything is in abundance and so is the energy that resides within us. This is the beauty of life.

However, this is not to say that life is a bed of roses. It is not! The problems and concerns of people are genuine. The rich, the poor, the educated, the uneducated, the beautiful and the not so beautiful – everyone has his/ her on set of problems. Life is not easy for anyone. However, we need to understand that this is how life is. If everything came easy we would not really value it. Life is beautiful in its own way and we should look for reasons to enjoy it and embrace its beauty amid the issues we are dealing with.

Essay on Life: Challenges and Goals – Essay 2 (300 words)

Introduction

Challenges are a part of life. We face different challenges at different points in life. While some people look at these challenges as an opportunity to learn something new others get disheartened and succumb to them. We learn many new things as we take on different challenges. These experiences make us a better person. We can overcome many challenges by setting goals. Goals give us the determination to achieve despite the hurdles.

Essay on Life: It is a Precious Gift – Essay 3 (400 words)

Life is a precious gift. It must be handled with care. We must be thankful to God for sending us on Earth and giving us such beautiful surroundings to live in. We must also be thankful to God for making us physically and mentally fit to live a wholesome life. Not just human beings, the life of animals, birds and plants is equally precious and we must value it too.

Essay on Life: It is a Journey not a Destination – Essay 4 (500 words)

Essay 1 (250 Words) – Beauty of Life and its Importance

Introduction

Something that could grow and can multiply is considered to be living. We are surrounded by varieties of lives, but the human life is the most prominent and the most virtuous of them all. Humans have the power to impact other lives on the planet.

What is the Beauty of Life?

The true beauty of life lies in how much value does it holds for the others. A life spent in helping others has more value than a life spent solitarily. True beauty of life lies in how it is spent in helping and caring for others. The more love a life transcends, the more beautiful it becomes.

The life of a tree that stands erect, facing the elements of nature and shelter birds and passersby, is more beautiful than a man who is living alone turning a blind eye to the sufferings of others around him.

Why is Life Important?

Each and every life is important and interlinked with each other. Every species, be it humans, animals, or birds, serve their purpose in this world and impact each other, either directly or indirectly.

Even if one tiny species is extinguished from this planet, it affects others as well. If deer is gone so would the tiger, initiating a chain process that would make the planet lifeless one day.

It is therefore in the best interest of all of us to value all life forms and consider each one an important asset of the planet and long to protect it.

Essay 2 (400 Words) – Life is a Beautiful Gift and Journey

The philosophical definition of life differs widely from its biological definition. Biology considers the physical aspects of life while philosophy considers the virtues that make the life more worthy for others. In this essay we will try to understand life, both from the biological and philosophical points of view.

Life is a Beautiful Gift

The majority of us would agree on life being a beautiful gift. The reason why life is considered a beautiful gift is because of its value for others. Every life form on the planet has a specific purpose. The trees, the animals, birds, humans, insects, all contribute to the growth of the planet and other lives, in their own way.

Moreover, human life is a greater gift as it is the most powerful of the existing life forms. Humans have exceptional ability to dream, work and achieve, like no other species on the planet. Besides, humans can impact each and every life on the planet for either good or bad reasons. Human life is a gift because it could save and protect other vulnerable and weaker lives.

That was the philosophical beauty of life. Now let’s look into the physical beauty of life. Humans are gifted with exceptionally dexterous limbs and an efficient brain, giving them superiority over others. The real beauty of these powers however lies in how many lives they impact for all the good reasons.

Life is a Journey

One of the prerequisite of life is growth. Wherever there is life, there is growth. Growth has stages, similarly as a journey has. Let us consider the example of human life. When a child is born, he/she is small and not physically or mentally evolved, but as time progresses, the child grows. The same is also relatable to other species as well.

With time, the life grows and becomes more prominent. Babies grow wiser and bigger with each passing year, growing up quickly in smart adults. This is the same with other life forms as well.

There are so many new things, experiences that one learns as he/she grows. Therefore, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that life is a journey of growth and experiences and all about becoming wiser and more valuable.

It must be kept in mind that each life is a valuable gift, but not only human life. Even the life of the weakest of species is valuable as is the life of a wisest of sages.

Essay on Life

Essay 3 (500 – 600 Words) – True Values of Life

Anything that grows and has a metabolism of its own is considered to be living. Humans, animals, insects, microbes, plants, all are living. There is life in abundance on the planet, but what matters is the quality of it. The quality of life is characteristically identified by various senses as we will know in this essay.

True Values of Life

We are surrounded by various kinds of lives around us. There are billions of other species including plants, animals, insects, birds, amphibians, etc. Each and every life, no matter how minuscule it is, is important, having its own value and contributes to the ecosystem in its own way. But, human life is considered more valuable than others, because of some distinct qualities that add value to existence.

To understand the true worth of human existence we should look at life from a different perspective, other than just eating, working, and living. The true value of life lies in protecting others and helping them. Fortunately, humans are gifted with exceptional intellect and brain along with dexterity, like no other creature on the planet. Only humans have the ability to help each other as well as other living creatures, in times of need. This is the greatest value that human life holds.

In other words, the true value of life lies in how much value does it holds for others. Consider the example of a tree that has been sheltering way farers from sun and rain for decades. The life of that tree is certainly valuable. Similarly, our life also gains more value if it is spent like the tree, in the service of others and spreading love and care.

How to Add Value to Life?

Now that we know what the true worth of life is, we will now discuss the changes that we could adopt to make our lives more valuable. Adding value to life is nothing but a change of attitude – you just have to change the way you look at others and perceive things. Below are some changes that you can adopt to add value to your life.

1) Become an Extrovert

Don’t just keep up to yourself, rather reach out to others. Connect with them and know their problems, aspirations, etc. Talk to your neighbors and socialize. The more you socialize the more value will be added to your existence.

2) Give Respect

Another way to make your life more valuable is to give respect to everyone – young or old, rich or poor, strong or weak. When you treat everyone with respect, you will not only make your life worth for them but also earn respect from others.

3) Be Considerate and Supportive

You should always be considerate towards the suffering and needs of others; not only humans but animals as well. Help them, support them, and be compassionate towards their problems.

4) Value Other Lives as Well

The more you value other lives, the more value will be added to your own. It is a give and take relationship. From other lives I mean, all other life forms including humans, animals, plants, birds, etc.

5) Become Courageous

A courageous person can stand up and speak up for his own life and others’ as well. On the contrary, lack of courage means a life spend in despair and fear. Such a life will have no value for itself or for others.

The definition of life is very vast and may differ from person to person, but the bottom line is that – ‘life must not be judged on how long it is, but on how valuable it is’.

The Big Bang Theory alum then reposted a sweet Instagram story shared by Tom’s sister-in-law, Lauren Pelphrey, that read, “when your brother in law @tommypelphrey brings you a sister… now we are in it for life @kaleycuoco and I couldn’t be happier.”

Kaley and Karl announced their divorce in 2021 after five years together. In a joint statement to People  magazine, they noted, “Despite a deep love and respect for one another, we have realized that our current paths have taken us in opposite directions.”

Legal documents revealed that Kaley, who had an “ironclad prenup” to protect her earnings, asked the court to deny Karl any spousal support.

The following year, Kaley opened up about the aftermath of the divorce in detail, describing it as one of the “hardest” experiences of her life. In fact, things got so bad that the actor decided to stage an intervention for herself while shooting her HBO Max series The Flight Attendant .

“One month in, I had an intervention on myself in my trailer — all my producers were in there. And I said, ‘I need help.’ It was interesting to say that out loud. And to have everyone be like, ‘Yes, we want to help!’” she shared.

During a 2022 interview with Glamour , Kaley vowed that she would “absolutely not” get married again. She said, “I would love to have a long-lasting relationship or a partnership — but I will never get married again. Absolutely not.”

essay on life is a beautiful journey

Seymour's Calahan Skogman talks his debut novel, how his role on 'Shadow and Bone' changed his life and his love for small-town Wisconsin

When Calahan Skogman needs to refuel from the craziness that comes with life as an actor in Los Angeles, he comes back home to Wisconsin.

He grew up in Seymour, and even for someone with a hit Netflix series and an upcoming movie with Margot Robbie on his resume, there’s something about a long talk with his parents out on the water, a backyard bonfire with close friends, a beer at a familiar bar or just some of “that good, fresh Wisconsin air” that fills him up.

“I always go back and feel ready to take on the world again after my time there,” he said. “Then I’ll go throw myself into the madness and the chaos a bit and go chase down some of my dreams and passions.”

When he returns to northeast Wisconsin this week it’s as a published author. His debut novel, “Blue Graffiti,” comes out Tuesday from Unnamed Press. He’s making three stops — Monday in Seymour, Tuesday in Stevens Point and Wednesday in Green Bay — to kick off a book tour that will also take him to Chicago, New York, Denver and, of course, LA.

As with most everything Skogman does, “Blue Graffiti” proudly shows his Wisconsin roots.

Set in Johnston, Wisconsin, a fictional “small town in the middle-of-nowhere Midwestern America” during a summer in the 1990s, it follows Cash, a painter and construction worker abandoned by his father and living in the house he inherited from his mother. He’s never known anything beyond the fields of Johnston, or necessarily wanted to, but when a stranger named Rose shows up one evening at his favorite bar, everything changes.

Praise for the novel, with its warm affection for small-town fixtures like the corner bar, local diner and old car shop, is already pretty heady stuff.

Kirkus Reviews calls it “a love letter to barstool philosophizing and a tender portrait of small-town life with a simple but powerful message: There’s always something special about home.”

Bestselling author Jodi Picoult wrote this: “You’ll feel echoes of (Jack) Kerouac and ‘The Outsiders’ in this poetic debut novel about fathers and sons, of boys becoming men, of what it feels like to be caught between the helium of dreams and the ceiling of small-town American reality.”

Skogman, a 2011 graduate of Seymour Community High School who played football and was a standout basketball player, had long felt the pull of Hollywood and the movies, but he could never have scripted how the adventure would unfold — both as an actor and an author.

He talked recently by phone about the book, his love for his hometown and the Midwest, how “Shadow and Bone” changed his life and why being cast in “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey” with his favorite actress felt almost too good to be true.

He wrote 'Blue Graffiti' with no intention of it ever being released to the public

“I wrote it to share it with my family and my best friends, but I didn’t write it with any illusions that one day it would be on shelves, in bookstores or airports or audio books or whatever,” he said. “It’s just been pretty sensational, and I’m just kind of riding the wave, to be honest."

Friends and family told him how quickly they tore through the early version and how much it moved them, but it wasn’t until a significant amount of time later, after his acting manager gave it a read, that it started getting shopped to major publishers and eventually landed in the hands of Unnamed.

Johnston is not Seymour and he's not Cash, but both are lovingly woven in.

Nothing in “Blue Graffiti” is a direct replica of any one person or place, but certainly many of Skogman’s own wanderings, longings and perspectives are prominently threaded throughout the story.

“It's a very, very close-to-home portrait of my soul and my way of thinking and my dreams and kind of the way I grew up,” he said. “Kind of a love letter to everything that I saw and everything that I took in growing up as a kid in the middle-of-nowhere America, the middle-of-nowhere Wisconsin — Seymour, Wisconsin.

“But in the same way, it’s a love letter to all of those places, all of the small towns in the state or the entire Midwest that I frequented so often growing up. Just the fabric of what made them so beautiful to me and special to me and something I was able to sit with in a real poignant way long after I had left at 18 years old.

“It’s a love story to that part of America. It’s a love story to that part of my life,” he said. “It’s just a conglomeration of all of the beautiful people I came in contact with and kind of a tapestry made up of all of them and kind of mixing them and mashing them together and kind of telling a story that feels very truthful and feels very authentic to the place that I’m from.”

He counts being from Seymour and as one of his biggest blessings

Skogman credits being raised where he was, the way he was, for giving him the foundation that has steadied and supported him as he set off into the great unknown of Hollywood. Looking back at age 31, he has an even greater appreciation.

“It became so apparent to me that some of my favorite traits about myself were forged and kind of watered and given life as a direct result of where I was from. Kind of that groundedness and my love for family and my loyalty for friendship and my faith and my work ethic. Everything that I was able to foster and kind of double down on throughout all those formative years of my youth. It was so important that I was from Seymour, Wisconsin.

“It allowed me to leave Seymour and now be all over the world doing ridiculous things that young Calahan, if you would have told him that I’d be doing some of these things, it would have really blown his (expletive) mind, to be honest. It’s given me a perspective that I cannot overstate as how important it’s been for me to kind of go forward in my life and to able to take on all this chaos and these big dreams and everything but still feel rooted to something very solid and very substantial.”

“I count it as one of my biggest blessings, I really do,” he said.

Playing Matthias Helvar on Netflix's 'Shadow and Bone' changed his life.

It’s not lost on Skogman how lucky he was to have his first professional acting job be as big as “Shadow and Bone.” He was just a few months out of college with a master of fine arts degree in acting when he landed the role in 2019 and jetted off to Budapest, Hungary, to film.

The Emmy Award-nominated epic fantasy drama ran for two seasons and was canceled in 2023, despite still drawing a sizable audience. The role brought Skogman more attention than he could have imagined and swelled his Instagram following to 386,000 followers.

“It was life-changing thing as an artist just to be on those big sets and to act with that kind of pressure ... knowing that you were going to be seen by millions of people. That was an incredible, incredible experience and sensation,” he said.

“I made some best friends on that show, and to this day, l can’t really stomach the fact that we went out the way we did, because we had so much more of that story to tell and I knew how passionate the fanbase was. ... But that’s life, and it keeps rolling. It doesn’t wait for anybody and you kind of have to move on.”

Look for him next in 'A Big Bold Beautiful Journey' with Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell.

Landing any acting role is difficult, Skogman said, and whenever it happens, it’s always surprising. Take a few months ago, when the call came that he got a part in Sony Pictures' “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey” (a release date has not yet been announced) and would be acting across from Robbie, fresh off the monster success of “Barbie.”

“That’s an incredibly surreal moment. where its like, ‘OK, she’s literally my favorite actress in the world,'" Skogman said.

After the first day of filming, a night shoot that went until 6 a.m., he awoke the next afternoon thinking it all had been a dream. He had to remind himself it was really happening.

Sometimes, that’s how his whole life feels.

“It’s a dream come true. I just want to do good things with it. I want to be able to be a light in the world and just be ready for whatever opportunities come way and always remain in a place of gratitude for them and do my best work.”

Juliet Macur, who has covered Simone Biles’s career since Biles was 18, reported from Paris.

  • Aug. 5, 2024

To end the Olympics she once thought would never happen for her, Simone Biles began her floor exercise routine on Monday and did what she was made to do: flip and twist and thrill an arena filled with people there to watch her.

Every time Biles, the most decorated gymnast in history, landed one of her wildly difficult tumbling passes, the crowd seemed to shout, “Wow!” all at once. And when she was done, standing alone on the floor in her sparkly leotard, the spectators rose to honor her — perhaps as much for her entire career as for a brilliant but flawed floor routine.

Biles stepped out of bounds twice during the routine, which was by far the most difficult that any of the finalists attempted. As a result, she did not win, as expected. Instead, she received the silver medal, while Rebeca Andrade of Brazil, her rival, won the gold by just over three one hundredths of a point. The American Jordan Chiles, one of Biles’s close friends, won the bronze.

When Chiles’s bronze medal was announced, she cried — and Biles smiled and laughed while hugging her.

Three years earlier, Biles withdrew from nearly all of her events at the Tokyo Games after becoming disoriented in the air, a moment that prompted her to consider quitting the sport. On Monday, she finished the Paris Games with three gold medals and one silver. (Earlier in the day, she finished fifth on the balance beam after losing points because of a fall.)

Her imperfect final performances did little to dull her luster at these Games. On each day she competed, celebrities dotted the stands, making gymnastics — already a marquee sport of the Olympics — seem like the hippest club in Paris. There were Lady Gaga, Tom Cruise and Ariana Grande, and sports legends like Serena Williams, Michael Phelps and Stephen Curry. After a day at the water polo venue, Flavor Flav, the rapper, said how much he admired Biles and wanted “to meet her, shake her hand and give her a hug and tell her how proud I am of her.”
