Essay on Soccer | My Favourite Sport

December 4, 2017 by Study Mentor Leave a Comment

Today, soccer has become very popular in the countries of America and Europe. The history of soccer is very interesting and different compared to other sports in the world. It is said that soccer was first found during the second and third century in China . It was the time of the Han dynasty in China that time and it was found that people were playing with leather balls and kicking it towards a small net.

It has also been found that the Greeks and Romans played with the ball for fun and enjoyment. According to the facts, people used to kick the ball at Kyoto in Japan and this became a very popular sport. Slowly, soccer started to experience growth in England. The ball which was first used is supposed to be the head of one Danish brigand. Earlier soccer had many illegal practices in which people were allowed to bite, punch and kick.

But the aim of the game was the players had to bring the ball to their target place. People started liking this game a lot and so whenever there was a soccer game, they would come to watch and the place would be crowded. But sometimes the game would turn out to be serious and there was violence during the game. Soccer was loved by soldiers. They loved it so much that they used to miss their archery practice in order to watch the game.

As the game started to become violent and fierce, King Edward III barred the game in the year of 1365. After this order of King Edward III, in 1424 King James I of Scotland declared that no one should play football. From 19 th  century, this game became popular even in schools and colleges.

Both the schools and colleges had different groups for the matches. The clubs and schools met together to make rules for the match. The game of soccer’s foundation was done in 1869. This year it was decided by the Football Association that the ball would not be allowed to handle the ball in any manner.

Further the game became more popular among the traders, soldiers and sailors. This helped in spreading of the game in other parts of the world as well. Soon different countries started going to Europe and South America for this game. After gaining so much popularity, FIFA (Federation of International Football Association) was formed in 1904.

From 1930 onwards, different leagues of football started to function in different countries. Finally, in Uruguay the first world cup by FIFA was organized. This game is now becoming popular and almost every country in this world is progressing in this game.

Rules of soccer and how is it played

The rules of soccer basically includes rules on the use of hands, throw-ins, corner and goal kicks, fouls of the game, free kicks, penalty kicks, touch rule and the offside positions. Earlier the rules for rugby, handball and soccer were very similar. In soccer the players are not allowed to handle the ball.

Sometimes even the goalkeepers cannot use their hands. Making it easier, if the goalkeeper gets the ball from his team itself they are not allowed to take the pass. They can only kick the ball from their feet. If he does not do that it will be called as an indirect kick.

My favourite sport Soccer

If the ball goes out of the field by crossing the goal line or by the end of the field then a corner kick or goal kick is given. There is a corner kick if the ball was kicked by the defense time. While there is a goal kick if the ball was kicked by the other team.

The goal can be kicked anywhere from inside the box of goal area. No player is allowed to touch the ball until the ball leaves the area which is known as penalty area. If any players touches it before then the kick is given. The corner kick takes place from the corner near to which the ball had left.

It is very important to know the difference between a direct kick and an indirect kick. If there is a direct kick, a player can put the ball into goal directly. But in an indirect kick, the ball cannot be put into goal directly. First it needs to be hit or kicked by another player except the one who has kicked the ball.

If the defense team does a foul during contact or there is a handball, there is a penalty kick. During a penalty kick, the ball is kept on the center of the goal, that is, on the penalty place. All the players must be back of the penalty area and arc. They can move from there only after the players taking the penalty kicks the ball.

A player is not allowed to touch the ball two times. These rules are followed in most of the games. They are not allowed to throw the ball at the first time and throw it. Players cannot remain in the offside while there is a throw-in, goal kick and corner kick.

Difference between soccer and football

Many people call football with an alternative name of soccer. According to some both the games are same. But for some they are two different games. In some ways both the games are similar but they have differences as well. For many countries people consider football as the same thing. For some football is like the game of rugby but in some places in soccer only the feet’s are used to kick the ball.

Most of the countries have their own ideas and perception on football and soccer. Actually, many sports in which feet is used along with the ball, all of them are given the name as football. Under this there are many categories and soccer is one of them.

In most of these categories the balls used to play the game are round in shape but in soccer it is mostly sphere. In soccer there is no pause like how the players pause in a football match. Thus, the difference and similarities and between these two is very difficult depending on where a person resides because all of them understand these games in a different way.

How has the game of soccer changed from before?

The game of soccer has changed a lot from the time it was first played. There have many been new rules formed for the game so that there is no cheating and the match is played in a fair way. Earlier when people used to play this game there was more violence than the actual game.

Today, there is no existence of such violence compared to before. People became violent while playing the game because there were no strict rules for the game. Only after a few years the rules were formed and the game turned out be less violent.

There were restrictions put on which body parts can be used to play this game. There have been changes in the offside rule, tackling the ball, penalty kicks, and the format of the game and eligibility of a person to join the team. Later, different kicks were introduced in the game and the work of the referee was increased and changed. There have been many changes in the ball used in this game from before.

The balls come in variety and the teams have many options on which ball to use. The shoes which players used while playing has also experienced a few changes. Today, the game of soccer has become very famous and most of the schools and colleges have their own soccer teams.

My idol is Hon’ble Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni. In my childhood, I tried to copy their style and always wished to be a good cricket player. The main reason cricket resonates with me is its rich history and traditions. It’s a sport that has been played for centuries, and it carries with it a sense of timelessness. The iconic venues, the legends of the game, and the celebrated rivalries all contribute to the sport’s allure. Among all the indoor and outdoor activities, I love to play badminton the most. Badminton is played as an indoor and outdoor game but traditionally it was an indoor game. It is one of the most admired sports among children and adults. Badminton is my favourite sport because it requires speed, practice, precision, stamina, and accuracy all at the same time.

A player needs to be very attentive while playing badminton. When each stroke of the shuttle makes a ‘whoosh’ sound, it infuses a feeling of competitiveness and enthusiasm to perform extraordinarily against the opponent.

I am a huge admirer of Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu. Watching them perform makes me feel so proud and more inclined towards the sport. It’s my dream to play a badminton tournament at the National level and win for the country.

Your thesis statement about soccer in the introduction should connect to the background information through a transition. Being the heart of the essay, it should, therefore, be manageable and researchable.

The body of an essay about soccer is composed of paragraphs supporting the thesis statement. It should, therefore, be concise to allow for easy readability.

The same logical connection to the thesis statement should follow in the body paragraphs. Their length varies depending on the assignment.

The 5-paragraph essay is, however, the standard recommended essay body length.

When concluding a soccer essay, try to act like the referee. Let the players know that the match has come to an end.

Briefly, let’s see some soccer essay topics that can get your piece a Wembley stadium audience.

How to Write a Killer College Essay About Soccer

my favorite sport essay soccer

By Eric Eng

Ah, soccer essays. The subject of much debate in the world of college admissions. We know what you’re thinking. “How could something as seemingly insignificant as a college essay about soccer be the subject of controversy?”

Well, with over a decade of experience in this field, AdmissionSight can confidently say that this is a heated topic. To be fair, soccer essays aren’t really the direct focus of this disagreement, but rather an unfortunate recipient. The real issue revolves around sports essays in general and whether or not they’re a suitable subject for a college essay.

A person writing on a notebook

There’s one camp that is adamant about advising students against sports-related college essays because they’re too cliche and generic. Instead of even bothering with the issue and running the risk of turning in a below-average essay, these people recommend applicants to avoid the topic altogether.

On the other side of the fence, there are some people who – while still admitting that the topic is often trite – say that it can be done properly. As a result, this second camp doesn’t swear off it but simply tells applicants to be careful about the potential trap that this subject so often sets.

So, who’s right? Is a college essay about soccer or any other sport doomed to fail? Or is there a potential that this essay can work in your favor when applying to a prestigious school? Well, they’re both correct in their own way. They both acknowledge the potential for a sports-related topic to come across as banal.

The primary difference is that one group of people don’t recommend it to students out of principle while others say that it can be done but should be approached with caution. This latter approach is where we find ourselves. For the right students, a college essay about soccer can be an excellent topic with a strong impact.

How To Write a College Application Essay About Sports

Here, we’ll provide a few tips for writing an effective essay about soccer or any other sport you want.

Avoid the cliche.

The general isn’t going to favor you in this essay prompt. There are likely thousands or even tens of thousands of students applying to the same university as you who have had similar experiences on the soccer field. Assuming at least a small percentage decide to write about the same topic, you’re going to have a tough time standing out from the crowd with a more generic response. A great way to filter out these unusable topics is to run each idea through a filter as you’re brainstorming. You can ask yourself:

  • Is there a chance that other people have had this same experience?
  • Did many people react the same way I did to the situation?
  • Is it a predictable topic on a college essay about soccer?

Make sure you’re honest in your responses as they’re crucial for determining whether or not the topic is usable. If you find out it’s too generic, move on to the next without getting too attached.

Make it unexpected.

As an incredibly common topic, sports essays are generally recommended against. One of the main reasons for this advice is because it’s hard to stand out from other applicants when your essay is expected. What do we mean? Well, thousands and maybe even tens of thousands (depending on where you’re applying) of applicants are sending in essays. If you choose a generic topic such as sports, one of the first things that will undoubtedly pop into an admissions officer’s head when reading your essay is “Oh, I know what’s coming…”

Outdoors, a woman is sitting and writing on her notebook

Now, this setup can either work in your favor or against you. If your college essay about soccer ends up being what was expected, your application is going to suffer a major blow. It’s never a good sign when your essays are predictable since that means similar essays have been seen by the college countless times before. However, if your essay is totally unexpected and doesn’t meet the reader’s previously held expectations, you’re setting yourself up for success. Surprise is always a good reaction to have on your essay.

As a result, you should try to write a response that’s not predictable or expected. Obviously, that’s easier said than done. It’s smart to avoid the first idea that pops into your head. And maybe the second, third, and fourth. Make sure to write them down as you can always come back to them. But waiting to see what other ideas pop up can make it more likely that you’ll stumble upon something truly exceptional that no admissions officer will see coming no matter how experienced they are.

Be personal in your essay.

Another great rule of thumb to use when writing a college essay about soccer is to determine if another applicant could put their name at the top of your piece. Would anything change? Is there anything within your piece that makes it undeniably unique to you? Or is it so general that anyone could pass it off as their own without anyone knowing? This is like a litmus test for the uniqueness of your essay. Ideally, your topic is so personal and one-of-a-kind that you are the only applicant who could possibly write it. This ensures your story will successfully stand out amongst the crowd of applicants and increase your chances of getting noticed.

Think about ancillary events.

What happens on the soccer field during a game is more or less the same every time. Although each game takes on a life of its own, there are only a few variables that can change in order to create a different outcome than the rest. What’s the purpose of pointing this out? Well, since the experiences players have on the field are more or less limited, this is difficult territory for finding a unique angle on a college essay about soccer. Although one of the highlights of any player’s experience is playing on the field during a game, you don’t want to end up getting bogged down in topic ideas that are too common to work.

A great way to come up with some topic ideas that are more unique is to think about what’s happened off the field. If you think about it, the vast majority of your time spent “playing soccer” hasn’t really taken place on the field during a game. Between drills, practices, watching the film, working out, and other everyday activities, you’ve actually had more soccer-related experience take place off the field. Thinking about these events is a great way to start coming up with more unique ideas. Not only will fewer applicants writing a college essay about soccer consider these seemingly ancillary events, but you’ll also have a better chance of avoiding cliche topics.

Create a unique title.

As we’ve mentioned before, writing a college essay about soccer or any sport for that matter is like wandering through a minefield of cliche. It’s more than possible to write a compelling, unique, and effective soccer-themed essay, but you have to work extra hard to maintain the attention of admissions officers. However, before you can even worry about holding their attention, you have to capture it in the first place. That’s where a great title comes into play. If you want to hook the reader right away – as you’ve heard time and time again in English class – you need to have a catchy, unique, and unexpected title.

A smiling man looking at his laptop

Here are some more general title examples that you’ll want to avoid along with similar variations:

  • How Soccer Changed My Life
  • Why I Love Soccer
  • What I Learned Playing Soccer
  • Why Soccer Is My Favorite Sport

As you can see, none of these titles are particularly captivating. None pulled you in as a reader and had you demanding more. And that’s exactly what you want to avoid when writing a college essay about soccer. Even though admissions staff will read your essay, either way, having a fascinating title will prime them for an equally amazing essay which you should also deliver!

Real College Soccer Essay Examples

“Simply put, I love soccer. I love being part of a team of girls who go out there and give their all, heart and soul, in every game. We truly are a family in our team. I love being a part of that family and taking a leadership role, both on and off the field. Soccer has also helped me be a better leader in student organizations and classwork, where I take a proactive role. Whether it is a good defensive block or scoring the winning goal, soccer is an empowering part of my life, and I would not be the person I am today without it.”

What’s bad about this essay:

Overall, this college essay about soccer falls short of where it would need to be in order to be competitive in an Ivy League setting. Here are some of the problems we were able to identify:

  • The writer used repetitive language. For example, the essay uses “I love” three different times. Furthermore, the concepts of leadership and family are mentioned twice. Not only is this too much repetition given the essay’s relatively short length, but the writer also didn’t write for the target audience: well-educated admissions officers.
  • The piece is too nebulous. Instead of simply mentioning a “leadership role” or “proactive role”, the writer should have provided a description of what these phrases mean in this specific case. This leaves the essay too vague and generic to stand out.
  • It feels unfinished. Despite being a short essay, there should still be a complete thought fleshed out within the piece. Unfortunately, this writer wrote as though there would be another hundred words of further explanation. When she says that soccer ended up making her the person she is today, the reader has no idea what that means. It’s a good attempt at being personal but ends up being too vague.
  • The language is too cliche. You’re probably tired of hearing this, but we want to drive the point home. In order to succeed when writing a college essay about soccer, you have to avoid coming off as cliche or too general. With phrases like “the winning goal” and “heart and soul”, this writer is falling right into the trap. These ideas are found in way too many sports essays that do not count against her.
  • The response is too short. Yes, it’s true that the word-limit was considerably short at just 150 words. However, you’ll want to make use of every single word on these shorter essays. This writer only used 108 words of the total, and it shows in the writing. Even without counting the words, the reader is able to feel that something is missing.

“Soccer has been my passion ever since I was a little kid. I grew up with a soccer ball in my bed. Soccer has in many ways been my outlet, my escape from the stresses of school. Soccer has taught me so many wonderful, powerful lessons like never giving up and always believing in myself. I recall a time when I missed in a shootout. I had let my team down. I was so upset. And yet I picked myself back up and practiced my shot for the next three weeks. The next time I had to participate in an OT shootout, I didn’t miss.”

  • The sentence structure isn’t varied. The writer uses the simple “I + verb” structure in nearly every sentence. This makes the piece very boring and unexciting.
  • The language is too simple. The nouns, adjectives, adverbs, and verbs used in this essay were too basic for an Ivy League application. In order to really catch the attention of admissions officers, the writer would have to write at a collegiate level at least.
  • The topic is too cliche. Similar to the essay above, the subject of this piece is too generic. The theme of sports isn’t the problem. Rather, it’s the sub-topic. Too many students have experienced the same in sports for it to be considered unique.
  • It’s too short. Again, this essay doesn’t make use of the full word count. While you might be able to get away with not making use of all the space allotted on longer essays, ones with a few hundred words are another story. You’ll want to make the most of these.

How we would recommend improving these essays:

  • The sentences would be much more interesting and engaging with varied sentence structures.
  • Instead of simply listing out ideas, the writer could weave together an interesting short narrative.
  • The topics discussed should be a bit more unique. As we mentioned before, if someone else can put their name on the essay without it changing a thing, you should change the topic. Neither passed this test.
  • The writers should make use of every word available when the essay has such a short word count. Leaving empty space is losing out on opportunities you have to flesh out your ideas. Don’t waste it!

My Favorite Sport Is Soccer Essay

Soccer is the best sport because it requires both mental and physical skills. Soccer also requires teamwork, which helps to build character. Soccer is a sport that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Soccer is a great way to stay physically fit, and it is also a lot of fun.

Soccer is a great way to meet new people and make new friends. Soccer is a sport that can be played anywhere in the world. Soccer is a sport that teaches discipline, respect, and responsibility. Soccer is a sport that builds character and teaches life lessons. Soccer is the best sport because it offers so many benefits to those who play it.

Imagine you’re in front of the goal. You stride forward and shoot, the goalkeeper didn’t see it coming; a clear game-winning goal. How much do you enjoy soccer? Soccer is the most popular sport on earth, and many people adore it. Do you know why I believe that soccer is the greatest sport? Because it’s not what most people think the game is about, to them, soccer is dull, but there’s a lot more to it.

Soccer is a worldwide sport that is played by people of all ages. Soccer is a sport that requires precision, timing and skill. Soccer also requires split-second decisions and reactions. Soccer is a sport that is both mental and physical. Soccer is a fast paced sport that is always changing. You never know what is going to happen next. That is why I think soccer is the best sport.

Soccer is also my favorite because you use your feet more than any other body part, which helps to improve footwork and ball control skills. Soccer requires quick thinking and reflexes. Playing soccer also helps improve stamina, agility and cardiovascular fitness. Soccer is a great way to get exercise while having fun at the same time.

Many people have told me that soccer is a dull sport, however the fact is that it is a very fascinating one. Ball control is crucial when playing soccer, and you must keep the ball away from your opponents by having possession of it for much of the game. It may be exciting at times because if you hold onto the ball for the whole game, you are guaranteed to win.

Soccer is a sport that requires split-second decisions, and if you are not paying attention, the other team will take advantage of you. Soccer is also a very physically demanding sport, so if you are not in shape, you will not be able to play at your best. Soccer is a sport that can be played by anyone, regardless of their size or strength, and that is one of the things that makes it so great.

Soccer is a sport that requires teamwork, and without teamwork, you will not be successful. Soccer is a sport that teaches discipline, and without discipline, you will not be able to succeed. Soccer is a sport that is enjoyed by people all over the world, and it is a great way to meet new people and make new friends. Soccer is a sport that is suitable for all ages, and it is a great way to stay fit and healthy.

Soccer is a sport that can be played indoors or outdoors, so if the weather is not good, you can still enjoy playing soccer. Soccer is a sport that is easy to learn, but difficult to master, and that is one of the things that makes it so great. So, if you are looking for a sport that is exciting, challenging, and enjoyable, then soccer is the perfect sport for you.

I’m eight years old, and most of my friends think that soccer is nothing more than a bunch of sweaty guys chasing a ball around. However, there is much more to it. In a game of soccer, goal kicks, corner kicks (also known as throw-ins), penalty kicks, penalty shots, and throw-in’s are all possible.

A goal kick occurs when the net has missed; you get a free kick in front of the goal. When the ball goes out of bounds between the goal posts and the corner flag, and the last person to touch it is on the defending team, this is known as a corner kick.

A penalty kick is when a player on the other team commits a serious foul in the penalty area. A penalty shot is when you are 1 on 1 with the goalie, and there is no one else on the field except for you and him/her. The last type of kick is a throw-inn which happens when the ball goes out of bounds on either side line; it doesn’t matter which team touched it last.

Soccer also requires split-second decisions, and there is hardly any time to think. You have to be able to think fast, and make the right decision, or else your team will lose possession of the ball, and the other team will have a chance to score. Soccer is also a very strategic game. There are 4 different positions that you can play; goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, and forward. Soccer is a sport for people of all shapes and sizes.

Soccer is a sport that requires speed, agility, strength, and most importantly teamwork. Soccer is a sport where you can’t do it by yourself; you need your team to win. Soccer is the best sport because it requires split-second decisions, strategic thinking, and teamwork. These are all important life skills that will help you in the future.

A throw-in occurs when the ball goes off either side of the vertical field lines, and you throw it in over your head with both feet on the ground. When playing, it’s difficult at times, and most individuals believe that soccer offers no exercise, but defense is another spot where people run a lot. Midfielders are another position where individuals run a lot.

These are the workhorses of a team. Soccer, also helps with footwork and hand-eye coordination. Soccer is not an easy sport, it takes a lot of skill to be able to control the ball and make it do what you want it too. Soccer is a very challenging sport.

There are many different types of soccer, such as indoor soccer, which is usually played in winter when it’s too cold to play outdoors; five-a-side soccer, which is played on a smaller field with fewer players; futsal, which is a type of indoor soccer that is played with a heavier ball; and beach soccer, which as the name suggests, is played on the beach. Soccer can be played by people of all ages, from young children to adults. Soccer is a great way to stay fit and active.

Soccer is a team sport, which means that it requires teamwork in order to be successful. Soccer is a great way to meet new people and make friends. Soccer can be played competitively or just for fun. Soccer is a great way to relieve stress and forget about your problems for a while. Soccer is the best sport in the world because it requires skill, teamwork, and is a great way to stay active. Thanks for reading! I hope this article has convinced you that soccer is the best sport in the world.

You should say:

  • How you first knew about it
  • How often you practise it
  • And explain why it is your favourite sport.

Sample 1 – Football

I would like to talk about my favorite sport, which is football, the king of sport to everyone in Vietnam.

I first knew about it when I was 15 years old. It was my classmates who invited me to join his football club with other friends in his neighborhood. I had a great time with them, for sure.

I used to play it after school with my friends as it was the only free time I have for the whole day. Nowadays I am pretty busy with my work and study so I had to give up the hobby. But sometimes if I have a long holiday I will arrange a small football match with my old classmates. Those football matches often end with us being in a small restaurant where we drink and chit-chat.

I love this sport for several reasons: First, it helps to improve my physical and mental health. Second, I can also learn teamwork skills which are crucial in all aspects of life. Last but not least, since I started playing this sport, I have made a lot of friends who are now my best playmates.

Sample 2 – Swimming

I would like to talk about my favorite sport, which is swimming.

I first knew about it when I was 10 years old. My mom thought that I should learn to swim at an early age so that I wouldn’t drown in the water. Frankly speaking, I kinda enjoyed the swimming class as I guess I was born with the Water element.

Nowadays, I still keep the habit of going to the swimming pool every Saturday afternoon with my boyfriend who is also a fan of this water sport. Only when I am snowed under a heavy workload do I ever skip a day.

I love this sport for several reasons: First, it helps to keep my body in perfect shape. Second, swimming is a great sport for me to improve my height. Last but not least, since I started this sport, I barely feel stressed or overworked. All in all, I suggest this sport is a must-have pastime for everyone.

Sample 3 – Badminton

I would like to talk about my favorite sport, which is badminton, a popular sport in Vietnam.

I first knew about it when I was 15 years old. My father thought that I was a bit overweight so he forced me to join a badminton training course with his friends. I have to admit that even though I was a bit upset for being made to do something against my will, I soon got into it after only a week.

Unfortunately, these days, as a white-collar, I mostly spend my day in the office and only reach home by 7 p.m. So, I do not have any time for badminton anymore.

Anyway, I still love this sport for several reasons: First, it helped me to lose some weight which led to better health. Second, when I practiced the sport in the sports center near my house, I made plenty of cool friends who supported me a lot in life. Last but not least, after knowing this sport, I would say for sure I could overcome my timidity of being a big size person and make an effort to change my look. All in all, I suggest this sport is a must-have pastime for everyone.

Sample 4 – Taekwondo

I would like to talk about my favorite sport, which is Taekwondo, a kind of martial art from Korea.

I first knew about it when I was 15 years old. My parents thought that I should learn something to defend myself from bullies at school. Also, I was a bit overweight so this was a perfect sport for me. I soon got into it quickly and it has become my most favorite pastime activity even until now when I am 23 years old.

Oftentimes, as I have no classes on Sunday afternoon, I will spend my free time enjoying this sport with other martial artists in a sports club near my house. They are quite helpful in showing me some tactics and effective moves. Sometimes we hold some small matches for fun and have a feast in a small restaurant afterward.

There are several reasons why I am truly in love with Taekwondo. First, thanks to this sport, I could lose some weight and at the moment I have a kind of a fit body. Second, since I started this sport I have hardly catch any common health issues like fever, flu, or cold. Third, my social circle has been getting wider and wider as I have met so many cool mates who come from all walks of life. All in all, I suggest this sport is a must-have pastime to try.

Sample 5 – Running

I would like to talk about my favorite sport, which is running, an easy and free sport to try for everyone.

I only started it a few months ago thanks to my colleagues who are professional runners. I was convinced by how well-shaped they look and how passionate they are about this sport. Therefore, I decided to follow them and try running in the park near my office. Honestly speaking, I fell in love with it pretty quickly after a week though at the beginning I was almost exhausted.

I always reach the park at 5 p.m after work then run around it until 6 p.m. On Saturday when I only work in the morning, I spend more than two hours running in the afternoon and I have to admit that Saturday is the most productive day for me to run. Sometimes when my colleagues can join me in the park, we have a great journey together and share fun office stories during our breaks.

There are several reasons why I am fond of this sport. First, it is a rather cheap and easy sport to try. All we need is a pair of running shoes and a bottle of water. Second, this is a sport that everyone of all age brackets and genders can enjoy, which also brought me some new friends while doing it in the park. They are quite nice and friendly people. Third, since I started this sport I hardly catch any common health issues like fever, flu, or cold. What’s more? I can perform better at work and show higher productivity only after a month of training. I mean I can work for longer hours without feeling tired. All in all, I recommend that everyone try this sport.

"Soccer is my favorite sport" - Elaborate on your extracurricular activity.

allyjim 2 / 2   Jan 21, 2011   #1 Please help me out on this small essay please. Soccer is my favorite sport to play. I have been playing on a team for a year now. When I first started playing I didn't know much but now since I go to every practice and am fully dedicated I have improved greatly. Being in soccer makes me happy and keeps me active. Before every game I get nervous and very excited because I don't know what might happen. I have learned through soccer to never underestimate an opponent and to never give up. Even though the games are friendly and there is no award behind it, I give my all out on the field. This team has helped me improve in my leadership qualities. Since I now am the captain of the team, I have to take charge and make sure everyone is attending practice and doing their best performance. If it wasn't for soccer I think I would of never learned so much, not only abut soccer but about life itself.

smileylover3000 1 / 1   Jan 24, 2011   #2 There are some slight punctuation issues. I like the general message behind the essay and knowing full well that you only have 1000 characters to express it, makes it better still. I just feel maybe it's missing some kind of personality. Why not combine some sentences, because most of your sentences are short; adding some long and medium lengthed sentences might give it more depth. Also starting of with the sentence " Soccer is my favorite sport to play." is general. Alot of other people enjoy playing soccer, so you have to make sure your essay sticks out from the jump. I enjoyed it though and I hope I helped. :)
