1. Big, Bold Typography

Big, Bold Typography

Nothing grabs attention like a big title with bold letters. That’s exactly what this presentation design trend is all about. To try this design trend, all you have to do is make your titles and headings look bigger on each slide and arrange the content around those big text elements.

The main goal of this approach is to quickly capture your audience’s attention with a big, splashy title. Once you have their attention, persuading them to read the rest of the content on the slide is much easier.

Remember to use a sans-serif font with a clean letter design. A slightly condensed font with all-caps letters would be the perfect choice for this.

2. Aesthetic Vibes

Aesthetic Vibes

Beautiful aesthetic slide designs have been a common choice among specific presentations. Especially when it comes to creating slideshows related to fashion, lifestyle, beauty, and luxury brands, a classy and elegant look does a perfect job of creating a charming vibe across the presentation.

Soft browns, light creamy colors, elegant botanical greens, and pastel colors are common in these aesthetic-style presentation designs. Of course, the slide layouts play an important role too. Make sure to keep a consistent and clean look across the slideshow.

3. Gradient Color Schemes

Gradient Color Schemes

Marketers and designers are slowly moving away from the usual, traditional, and boring corporate-style slide designs and adopting more colorful and vibrant color schemes when designing presentations.

It’s quite a welcome change that makes slideshows look much more attractive and stand out from the crowd. One of the most popular looks in this new trend is using gradient colors for backgrounds and shapes. They do wonders for highlighting the text elements as well as for conveying creativity, inclusivity, and overall an energetic and fun vibe.

4. Retro and Groovy

Retro and Groovy

Being able to create informative presentations combined with a sense of nostalgia and fun is the main reason why this trend has been popular over the past few months. Designers who use this trend often go for various styles of retro-themed looks. Cool 90s vibes, 80s neon color palettes, and 70s groovy psychedelic-style designs are among just a few.

A retro and groovy presentation design is not just about making slideshows look fun but they can also be a tool for storytelling and evoking emotions. This makes this an effective trend to be used in presentations related to marketing and promoting brands.

5. Asymmetrical Layouts

Asymmetrical Layouts

This design trend encourages designers to break away from the usual grid and column-based presentation slide designs and experiment with new layout styles.

Creating asymmetrical slide layouts allows you to use your creativity and imagination to create experimental content designs by placing text, images, and shapes on the slides in an unconventional way. This approach often creates more stimulating presentations and a unique experience for the audience with each slide.

6. Full-bleed Images

Full-bleed Images

Using full-bleed images that expand across the entire slide is a design strategy that allows you to create more impactful and emotional presentations that convey a strong message.

This design trend involves using large images as backgrounds to create more visual-centric slides. While it’s quite effective in photography, studio, and portfolio presentations, the key to creating a balanced slideshow is to only include a few full-bleed image slides among other normal slides.

7. Overlapping Elements

Overlapping Elements

Creating slides with overlapping elements, also known as slide layering, is an innovative trend that offers a more dynamic look for modern presentations.

It involves creating slides with objects that overlap with one another. Like text and shapes that overlap with images. Or content blocks that seem out of place. These slides look much more unique and stimulating than most other styles of presentation designs.

8. Flowing Shapes

new presentation trends

One way to make your PowerPoint presentation design stand out is to use flowing shapes. Too often, templates focus on all blocks and rectangles. With a set of flowing shapes, your presentation design will have an immediate impact.

When thinking about this style use a couple of different shapes and build on them. Ovals and circles are rather nice and partial shapes that extend off the screen and provide another option for these shapes with flow and movement.

Use shapes with a bright color or consider tints with a more subtle impact.

The trick to flowing shapes is to use them in such a way that they create visual flow toward text and other important messaging elements in the design. Plan accordingly!

9. Colorful Text Blocks

new presentation trends

If you are working on a presentation design and don’t have a lot of great images, colorful text blocks can be a fun way to show information without feeling too bland.

There are a couple of ways to make this presentation design trend your own:

  • Use color for text blocks that’s part of your brand palette.
  • Use colors that are unique to a specific theme or project.
  • Include limited imagery with color blocks for additional interest.
  • Make sure the color block and text element has high contrast and is easy to read.
  • Use your brand font palette for an even more custom look and feel.

10. Dark Mode

new presentation trends

Dark mode isn’t just for website design. It’s one of those design trends that has crept into almost every facet of design, including presentations.

While this style looks very trendy and modern, it can present some challenges.

Reverse type can be difficult to read in some situations or lighting. Consider bumping up font sizes larger than you normally would. Don’t feel like dark has to mean black. Experiment with other dark color palettes for the base, such as purple or navy.

As long as the overall design has plenty of contrast and is readable, dark mode can be a fun and striking presentation design option.

new presentation trends

If dark mode is a little too dramatic for your PowerPoint presentations, consider an all-gray aesthetic. Gray has a calming feel, is visually pleasing, and is generally easy to read.

You can pair gray with colorful images or accents or go for a full-mode look, such as the example above, with black and white images and just a small hint of color.

This design scheme is trendy and quite elegant for presentations.

12. Image Overlays

new presentation trends

There are generally mixed feelings about how to use images in presentation design. Some people love full-screen large image slides, while others argue that images can get in the way of messaging.

In the middle is this trend – use images with a color overlay. This allows plenty of room for images and text elements with a softer, more subtle feel.

Image overlays can also create a nice element of design and color consistency to help carry a presentation visually from start to finish.

13. High Color

new presentation trends

High-color designs have been popular for a while in other design arenas, and are bleeding over into presentation design now. This style has a very distinct feel with bold, bright, or even more pastel palettes with a lot of color.

It’s not for everyone or every type of presentation message.

But if you are looking for a lighter, more fun style, this presentation design trend can be a good place to start. Use your brand colors for maximum impact here.

14. Minimal Monotone

new presentation trends

On the other end of the high-color spectrum is choosing a monotone color palette for your presentation design. Monotone does not have to mean low color, but you are working with one predominant hue.

The teal choice in the example above is elegant and modern. It has a fresh feel that works nicely with the minimal outline of the rest of the design. Minimal aesthetics with monotone color palettes are the perfect compliments.

15. Muted Images

new presentation trends

If you are looking to make an impact with the presentation design and want to try something totally different, consider muting the images so that they almost fade into the background.

This design style can be a great way to use imagery so that the words on each presentation slide are the true focus. Go a step further and use interesting shapes to direct the eye through slides using this trending style.

16. Blocky Design

new presentation trends

If you want to go for a modern and trendy look and love the feel of geometric shapes, consider a blocky design. Using colored blocks, squares, or rectangles, you can create interesting shapes and configurations that make your PowerPoint presentation dazzle.

This is a true high-design style that can take a lot of effort and is best for smaller slide decks. It might also be easier to design if you start with a template, such as in the example above.

The blocky design style also works well with another trend already featured here – monotone color palettes. A single-color design helps hold all the pieces together for a unified presentation design.

17. Photo Stories

new presentation trends

A presentation design that uses photos to tell stories is a highly engaging and trendy way to share information. To make the most of this presentation design style, create a template with big image areas that pair with simple text elements.

Keep it interesting with photos of different shapes, sizes, and placements in the design. By pairing text elements with image shapes and sizes, you can create a lot of visual interest with a unified style that does not look repetitious.

A photo story presentation design often doesn’t need a lot of other design elements to work beautifully. All ow images to tell your story and keep other design techniques – color, typography, graphics, and icons – to a minimum.

18. Big Backgrounds

new presentation trends

It’s not something we are used to seeing regularly in PowerPoint presentation design – big, bold backgrounds that carry throughout. When done well, an interesting background can make up for a lack of other visual content to help propel a presentation design.

In the example above, the background is made from a simple color palette with blurred shapes. It’s bold and interesting but doesn’t overpower the overall design. That’s the trick to using a style such as this – create interest without overwhelming it.

19. Clean and Simple

new presentation trends

It seems a little weird to call this a trend because clean and simple are the most classic of design styles. But it’s trending because it always works. When in doubt, a simple design for a presentation can be just the ticket.

When creating a clean and simple design, think about developing reusable pieces that you can carry throughout the presentation, such as the shape of a photo or the color of a box. Stick to typefaces that further push this theme with a simple sans serif.

18. Monochromatic Design

In the coming year, presentation design trends are heavily focused on the use of simplicity. People no longer prefer designs with bold colors and complex typography in their slides. Instead, they are drawn to subtle, single-tone color palettes that provide a clean and minimalist look. This will be highly beneficial to companies as consistent branding of simple colors can establish brand recognition more effectively, much like Coca-Cola’s red or Apple’s white and grey combination. As such, it is safe to say that single colors in various shades will be one of the top 30 design trends for presentations in 2024.

19. 3D Realism

Tech companies are leading the charge, implementing 3D elements into their branding and web design for a deeper sense of depth and reality. As businesses continue to embrace the power of presentation technology to tell stories visually, we can expect to see even more innovative, hyper-realistic designs over the coming years – so make sure you’re prepared by incorporating 3D elements into your presentations now.

20. Motion graphics titling

In 2024, presentation design trends are leaning heavily towards motion. Gifs and typography effects, inspired by lyric videos, have become far more than just a trend – they offer captivating visuals that engage viewers while displaying words in new and creative ways. Moving text, numbers and even letters helps to keep the audience’s attention as well as create unique data visualization presentations. Make sure to incorporate this type of animation into your presentations for an eye-catching result!

21. Anti-Design

Presentation 2024, the trend of anti-design is expected to make its mark in presentation design. Anti-design involves breaking all the fundamental rules of design and letting creativity take over. We can expect to see warped and stretched elements– sometimes that might not be very functional but it certainly results in a work of art! Creative agencies who want something extra-ordinary will likely use this form of design for their PowerPoints or Google slides.

22. Cinemagraphs & Placeholders

Presentation design trends such as Cinemagraphs and playful placeholder animations will be all the rage. A Cinemagraph looks like a still image at first glance, but with looping elements within it. With its timeless appeal, this design trend will persist across devices. Similarly, brightly-animated placeholders provide a captivating visual that grabs audience attention.

23. 2D Illustrations

Think imaginative artwork inspired by comic books that uses bold colors and striking imagery to convey corporate messages and data – perfect for making mobile presentations pop. Look out for plenty of superhero-themed designs as heroes fight against evil forces!

24. Virtual reality experiences

One of the most exciting developments to look out for is the advent of virtual reality experiences. Presentation audiences can now take a fully immersive journey and step into a brand new 360 degree environment – be it a retail store or product launch event – all virtually before they experience it physically!

25. Animated graphics & virtual reality

Animations , motion visuals and even 3D graphics will bring a dynamic effect to your presentation. Adapting to the modern customer demand for virtual reality experiences can turn heads with audiences across industries such as education, technology and services.

Furthermore, as more environmentally-friendly industries continue to grow, nature-based visuals and graphics will likely be the top trend of next year.

28. Unique AI-powered images

In 2024, presentation design trends to watch out for include playing around with images such as image grids, muted visuals, branded filters and overlays. This is hardly a new concept; using images throughout presentations helps the story better resonate with an audience of visual learners, and also breaks up those sometimes-boring blocks of texts. Visuals will still be an integral part of presentation design – but with artificial intelligence (AI) becoming more prominent, expect to see AI-powered images become the norm.

29. Accessibility

In 2024, we anticipate accessibility becoming increasingly important when it comes to presentation design. Microsoft PowerPoint and Google Slides are making advancements that enable users to create presentations that are more easily accessible by those with disabilities.

30. Interactivity

31. Diversity

Businesses want their presentations to accurately reflect their organization’s diverse make-up, requiring creative teams to look for new and interesting ways to use imagery and illustrations that accurately showcase the range of identities present. By crafting stories that leverage this, it is possible to create a powerful and memorable impact.

32. Geometric and aesthetic components

In 2024, presentation design is set to have a retro-revival feel, with Bauhaus elements coming back in style. We will see bold primary colors and geometric shapes used in unexpected ways. Both minimalist and maximalist designers may embrace strange-shaped treatments that create dramatic visual impressions. Be prepared to be awed by unexpected bubbles, blobs and other fun shapes!

33. Age of illuminating coloration

Wellness brands especially are likely to incorporate gradients in conjunction with cultural concepts like aura and noise, along with botanical elements. We predict this part of presentation design will gain traction over the next year.

34. Photos galore

Companies are starting to rebuild design campaigns with images instead of just photos, as well as shifting towards 3D designs. There is also an increased trend towards creative logos, packaging and print ads that stand out from the crowd and creatively deliver messages.

35. Retro line art

In 2024, designers are increasingly turning to minimal line art to create illustrations that are both humorous and engaging. This technique draws on the classic aesthetic of felt-tip marker drawings, evoking a sense of nostalgia.

5 Presentation Design Trends to Try in 2023

5 Presentation Design Trends to Try in 2023

In any type of design— interior, graphic, or fashion— trends are a revolving door. What’s popular one year might not be prominent in designs the next. Staying on top of these trends keeps your designs fresh and relevant, with a better chance of grabbing the attention of your audience. The same applies to presentations.

You can pull inspiration from graphic design trends into your presentation. Things like colors, typography, image styles, and layouts can all vary from year to year. And with the principles of good presentation design in mind, it can be fun to test out new design options in your decks without compromising professionalism.

Here are 5 presentation trends to try in 2023.

Big backgrounds

In the coming year you can expect to see bigger backgrounds with more impact. This can be background images on every slide, bigger images on title slides, or flowing shapes that complement the slide layout. By using big backgrounds (not to be confused with loud or cluttered backgrounds), you’re demanding your audience’s attention to the slide in front of them.

In Beautiful.ai you can upload slide background images to your theme. For optimal design, you can choose whether it is treated as a light or dark background to ensure legibility, and opt to select one as a default background for all of the slides in the deck.

Modern minimalism

There’s something to be said about a clean, minimalistic presentation. Sure, it looks modern and professional (a win in and of itself). But more importantly, it’s easier to absorb the information being presented to you.

To create a minimalist presentation, keep these design tips in mind;

  • Stick to one idea per slide
  • Avoid lengthy blocks of text
  • Use modern colors that complement each other
  • Only include the most meaningful metrics and information
  • Add modern photos and icons

Unique AI-powered images

Playing around with images— image grids, muted images, branded filters, and image overlays— is nothing new and groundbreaking. We’ve always encouraged people to use images throughout their presentations to lead the story. Why? Most humans are visual learners and will actually retain information better if there is an image associated with what you’re telling them. Plus, going image-heavy on your slides can help break up the dull blocks of texts.

In 2023 we will still see images and videos play a big role in presentation design. However, with evolving technology, the bar for images has gotten higher. With AI on the rise, we’re expecting to see more unique AI-powered images in 2023 and beyond. In anticipation of this trend, we added our new ImageBot (Beta) feature. You can make custom presentation images in seconds with our new AI-powered ImageBot. Simply describe what you're looking for, and let ImageBot create a unique AI image to take your story to the next level.

Bold colors

In up and coming graphic design trends, we’re seeing a lot of retro and bold color combinations. It’s no surprise since the Pantone color of the year is the vibrant Viva Magenta. These color palettes can easily translate into presentations, too. While you don’t want to risk losing your branding to a new trend, it could be fun to incorporate bolder hues in your custom themes. You can select a bolder shade in the same family as your brand color(s) to use as an accent to call-out key metrics. Similarly, you can play around with background colors on your slides to create more attention-grabbing designs.

Sophisticated Serif fonts

Typography is subjective, and can look different for every brand and business. To maintain brand integrity, your branded fonts should take precedence over what’s trending. That said, we’re seeing a lot of sophisticated Serif fonts at the forefront of designs for 2023. Serif fonts are a fan-favorite known for its refined professionalism and dependability. They are a great option for any presentation.

In 2023 we can expect to see designers adding a fun and artistic flare to the otherwise simple and traditional font. With different letter shapes and sizes, intertwining letters, and intentional distortion, there will be a new take on Serif. These iterations could be fun to upload as a custom font option for title slides or headings, while using a more subtle Serif for body text.

Latest Trends in Image Use for Presentation Design

As we head into 2024, images continue to be a vital component of presentation design. It's no secret that the right design elements have the power to transform a simple presentation into an unforgettable experience. Presentation design trends in 2024 will be all about using images in innovative ways. We will explore five key trends that will shape the way we use images in presentations throughout the year.

Authentic and Diverse Imagery

In the coming year, there will be a significant shift towards using images that reflect real life and diversity. Presentation designers will choose photos and graphics showcasing people from all backgrounds. This approach will help audiences connect more with the presentation as they see themselves represented, focusing on authenticity and inclusivity.

Dynamic Data Visualisation

The days of boring charts and graphs will be gone. Instead, dynamic data visualisation will become popular. Designers will use interactive and animated graphics to bring data to life, making complex information easier to understand and more engaging, keeping the audience focused and interested.

Immersive and Interactive Image Elements

A new trend in presentation design will be the use of immersive and interactive image elements. This includes using 360-degree images, clickable image galleries, or images that change when hovered over. These elements can create a more engaging and interactive experience for the audience, adding depth to the presentation.

Minimalistic Layouts

Simplicity will be key when it comes to presentation design. Designers will adopt minimalistic layouts with plenty of white space, focusing on the essentials and avoiding clutter. This approach will make presentations look clean, and professional, and help the audience focus on what's important.

Storytelling with Images

Storytelling will become an integral part of using images. Designers will select images that tell a story, connecting slides narratively. This approach will make presentations more memorable and engaging, taking the audience on a journey.

Presentation design trends in 2024 will focus on making a significant impact with images. From authenticity and diversity to dynamic visualisations and storytelling, these trends will change the way we design presentations. By embracing these trends, presentations will not only deliver messages effectively but also captivate audiences.

The Future of Font Usage in Presentation Design

Choosing the right font has always been an important presentation design trend. In 2024, we'll see a shift towards fonts that are not just visually appealing, but also enhance the overall message. Let's explore five font trends that will make waves in the new year.

Bold and Expressive Typefaces

Bold typefaces will be in. These fonts will be all about making a statement and ensuring key points stand out. Perfect for titles and important messages, designers will use these expressive fonts to grab attention and ensure the audience remembers the crucial parts of the presentation.

  • Impact: Known for its thick strokes and compressed letters, perfect for making a strong statement.
  • Rockwell: A slab serif font that is both bold and readable, great for highlighting important points.

Minimalist and Clean Fonts

Minimalism will continue to be a big trend in typography. Clean, uncluttered fonts will be popular for making slides look sleek and professional. Easy to read and not distracting from content, these fonts will work great in presentations where clarity and simplicity are key.

  • Helvetica: A classic sans-serif font known for its clean and uncluttered look.
  • Open Sans: A friendly and legible font, ideal for maintaining clarity in presentations.

Handwritten and Custom Fonts

Handwritten fonts will gain popularity for their personal touch, adding a unique human element to presentations. Custom fonts, tailored for specific brands or presentations, will also rise in demand. These fonts will help create a unique identity and make presentations stand out.

  • Brush Script: Mimics the look of handwritten letters with a brush and ink.
  • Lobster: A popular script font that adds a personal and creative touch.

Retro and Vintage Fonts

There's a growing interest in retro and vintage fonts. They will bring a nostalgic feel to presentations, ideal for storytelling or evoking emotions. Designers will use these fonts cleverly to transport audiences back in time or create a specific mood.

  • Garamond: An elegant, old-style serif font that brings a classic, vintage feel.
  • Cooper Black: A chunky, retro font that stands out for its 1960s vibe.

Futuristic and Modern Fonts

Futuristic fonts will also be trending. Modern and sleek, these fonts will give presentations a cutting-edge feel, perfect for technology, innovation, or forward-thinking topics.

  • Roboto: A modern sans-serif font with a geometric form, giving a contemporary feel.
  • Neuropol: A sci-fi-inspired font that looks sleek and futuristic, perfect for innovative topics.

In presentation design trends for 2024, the right font choice will transform a presentation. From bold and expressive to minimalistic and futuristic, these font trends will be all about enhancing how we present information. By choosing the right typography, you'll be able to convey your message effectively and leave a lasting impression on your audience.

Trending Color Palettes for Modern Presentations

In the world of presentation design, colors will continue to play a crucial role in creating slides that look good and effectively convey your message. Looking ahead at presentation design trends, we will see a shift towards color schemes that are visually striking and meaningful. Here are five color trends set to captivate your audience and convey your ideas powerfully this year.

Bold and Bright Colors

Bright, bold colors will make a big splash. These colors will grab attention and bring energy to your slides. Think neon pinks, electric blues, and vibrant greens. They will be perfect for making important points pop and giving your presentation a lively, dynamic feel.

Pastel and Soft Hues

On the softer side, pastel colors will also be trending. These gentle hues will create a calm and soothing visual experience. Soft pinks, baby blues, and light lavenders will be great for presentations aiming to be gentle, thoughtful, or reflective. They will give your slides a modern, understated elegance.

Monochromatic Color Schemes

Using different shades of a single color will be a hot trend. This monochromatic approach will create a cohesive and stylish look. It will be great for presentations needing a sophisticated touch. By varying the shades, you will be able to add depth and interest to your slides without overwhelming your audience.

Natural and Earthy Tones

Earthy tones will make a comeback. Think olive greens, rich browns, and clay reds. These colors will be perfect for themes related to nature, sustainability, or wellness. They will bring a sense of warmth and groundedness to your presentation, making it feel inviting and connected to the natural world.

Metallic Accents

Metallic colors like gold, silver, and bronze will be used as accents. These will add a touch of luxury and sophistication. Use them sparingly to highlight key points or to add a refined finish to your slides. They will work well with both bold and muted color palettes.

2024's color trends will be all about using hues that not only look good but also enhance the message of your slides. From energetic brights to calming pastels and sophisticated metallics, these trends will offer a range of options to help you design presentations that are visually appealing and effectively communicate your ideas.

Innovative Presentation Design Trends Coming in 2024

The new year will usher in the use of cutting-edge technologies like AI and AR/VR. These advancements will be key presentation design trends, offering new ways to create a truly immersive experience for the audience. They will revolutionize the way presentations are designed and delivered.

AI in Presentation Design

AI will transform presentation design by automating data analysis and slide creation, making it easier to craft compelling stories. Designers will be able to use AI tools to suggest design layouts, color schemes, and even content based on the presenter's goals. This will not only save time but also ensure that each slide is optimized for maximum impact.

AR/VR in Presentation Design

AR and VR technologies will bring presentations to life like never before. They will allow designers to create 3D models and immersive environments for audiences to interact with. This won't be just about showing information; it will be about letting people step into your story. AR/VR will make presentations more engaging and memorable, leaving a lasting impact.

Including AI and AR/VR in presentation design trends for 2024 will be a game-changer. These technologies will enhance visual storytelling , making presentations not just informative but also an engaging, immersive experience. They will set a new standard for communicating and connecting with our audience.

What do Clients want to see in Presentation Design?

Clients are increasingly asking for elements that align with presentation design trends in 2024. They want designs that add a dynamic element to presentations. This includes interactive data visualisations and animated transitions. These features help leave a lasting impact on their audience. Clients also request designs that accentuate crucial points using bold colors and distinctive fonts. Such elements make key messages stand out, ensuring they are memorable. This focus on engaging and impactful visuals is a core aspect of presentation design trends in 2024.

Future Proofing your Presentation Design

In the art of presentation design, certain practices stand out for making a real impact. Here are some top tips from experienced designers that can elevate any presentation.

  • Keep It Simple: Avoid cluttering your slides with too much information. Stick to key points and use space wisely for clarity.
  • Use High-Quality Images: Choose clear, high-quality images that add value to your content and engage the audience.
  • Consistent Branding: Make sure your presentation reflects your brand's colors, fonts, and style. Consistency helps in building brand recognition.
  • Engage with Stories: Use storytelling to connect with your audience. A good story can make your presentation more relatable and memorable.

10 Presentation Design Trends to Try in 2023

Whether you’re an employee delivering a presentation on a recent project, a business owner pitching your services to new customers, or a student delivering a class presentation, making the right impression on your audience requires designing an eye-catching and eye-pleasing presentation.

One way to accomplish this goal is to familiarize yourself with the latest presentation design trends. Specific examples to keep in mind when designing your next presentation include:

An Emphasis on Minimalism

Effective presentation design involves striking a delicate balance. On the one hand, you want the slides of a presentation to be visually interesting enough to engage an audience. On the other hand, you need to ensure your audience absorbs the information being presented. Bombarding them with excessive visual stimulation could prevent audience members from retaining a presentation’s content.

Many are striking this balance by embracing minimalism. Instead of cluttering their slides with various images, they’re using a few larger images to ensure a cleaner look. Rather than going overboard with a wide-ranging color palette and numerous typography choices, they’re sticking to only two or three colors and fonts.

(Tip: When choosing a color scheme for your presentation design, study color theory to determine which colors represent your brand and trigger the appropriate emotional response in your audience.)

Expressive Text

Traditionally, the visual elements of a slideshow have been the most attention-grabbing, while text has usually been a more “boring” component.

That’s changing. Increasingly, presentation design experts have been experimenting with ways to make text come alive and capture an audience’s attention. Ways to achieve this goal may include:

  • Animating text
  • Using custom fonts
  • Using 3D text

Animation can serve many purposes in a presentation. The following are just a few examples:

  • Telling a story to boost the content’s overall persuasiveness
  • Illustrating complex concepts and ideas
  • Establishing a brand with animated characters who represent an organization’s branded “personality”
  • Adding humor to a presentation, making it more entertaining (and thus more engaging)

Visual Storytelling

Even if you don’t incorporate animation into a presentation, you might nevertheless account for the current presentation design trend of visual storytelling when deciding how to hit certain essential points.

For example, perhaps you’re delivering a sales pitch. Your goal might be to illustrate how your products or services solve a common problem for your customers. One way to do so is through a series of pictures telling a story about a character who faces the same problem your customers face, only to overcome it with the help of your products.

A series of photos is just one potential visual storytelling strategy. For instance, if a comic is more brand-appropriate, you could include a comic instead of a photo series in your presentation.

Prioritizing Accessibility

Presentation design isn’t just about ensuring a presentation looks impressive. It’s also about ensuring as many audience members as possible can absorb the presentation’s content.

Ways to make a presentation more accessible include:

  • Using captions during videos
  • Including the option to turn on audio narration and descriptions for blind audience members
  • Designing multiple versions of a presentation in different languages
  • Avoiding excessive usage of cultural idioms and slang that might alienate or confuse audience members from different cultures

Large Blocks of Vibrant Text

Instead of including substantial amounts of relatively small text on individual presentation slides, consider using fewer words per slide but opting for larger font sizes and more vibrant colors. This is another way you can use text to capture the attention of audience members while still adhering to a relatively minimalist presentation design style.

Many people already opt to use dark mode when viewing their phones and tablets in order to reduce eye strain. Website and app designers have taken note, making design choices that are compatible with dark mode, such as:

  • Ensuring there’s a reasonably strong contrast between background and text/images
  • Testing color choices in dark mode to confirm they still look pleasing
  • Using dark gray instead of pure black
  • Using off-white fonts instead of pure white fonts

This trend has also begun influencing presentation design. Keep it in mind when designing your slides.

A Return to Serif Fonts

Anything a person sees on a slide in one of your presentations can tell them something about your brand. As such, it’s important to remember that there are no color schemes, fonts, or other such elements that are ideal for all presentations. You need to be certain the visual aspects of a presentation correspond with your branded identity.

That said, Serif typography is making a comeback in presentation design. Because Serif fonts may appear somewhat traditional or old-fashioned, they’ve come to convey a sense of timeless authority.

Muted Images

Are you looking for a way to include more interesting images in your presentation slides without the slides looking too busy? If so, consider muting images so they blend in more with the background. This simple presentation design technique allows you to add more images while maintaining a clean sense of visual consistency.

AI-Generated Images

Thanks to AI programs, designers can now generate various types of images in just a few moments. As such, they’re experimenting with AI images, using AI to develop imagery that would normally take hours or even days to generate.

It’s not necessarily wise to use all the images that an AI program generates. These tools are simply giving presentation designers more creative freedom to experiment with imagery than ever before.

2023 Presentation Design Trends to Keep in Mind

Consider these presentation design ideas the next time you need to put together a visually-appealing presentation that’s both attractive and informative. By accounting for current trends and using the right tools, even someone with minimal design experience can create a presentation that resonates with audience members.

Top presentation trends to use in 2023

new presentation trends

As we move further into 2023, the world of presentation trends continues to evolve with new and emerging designs. SketchDeck has designed thousands of presentations over the years. Our team of presentation design experts keep working to stay ahead of the curve. We’ve compiled the top presentation design trends in 2023 that will help you captivate your audience and deliver a memorable presentation.

Example of two minimalist slides with limited blue and white color pallet, lots of space between text, and no imagery.

The concept of minimalism has been around for a while and continues to be a top presentation trend. The focus is on simplicity, with a clean and uncluttered layout that allows your message to stand out. Use of whitespace, simple typography, and a limited color palette can help you achieve a minimalist look.

Interactive elements

Interactive elements are not a new presentation trend, but they continue to gain popularity in 2023. Adding interactive elements like quizzes, polls, and clickable infographics can help engage your audience and make your presentation more memorable.

Bold typography

Example of a slide with an eye-catching, classic font choice (similar to times new roman).

In 2023, typography will play a significant role in presentation trends. Bold typography can help emphasize important points, create contrast, and add visual interest to your slides. Sans-serif fonts like Helvetica and Arial will be popular choices for presentation design.

Example of 5 dark mode slides, all with a dark black background and white text.

Dark mode has been a popular trend in app and website design for a while. Now, it has made its way into presentation design trends. Dark backgrounds with light text can help reduce eye strain and create a sleek and modern look.

Motion graphics

Motion graphics are a great way to add a dynamic element to your presentation. They can be used to animate graphs, charts, and other visual elements. In 2023, we will see more use of motion graphics in presentations to add a wow factor and engage the audience.

Custom illustrations

Example of three slides featuring colorful custom illustrations and icons.

Custom illustrations can add a personal touch to your presentation and make it stand out. In 2023, we will see more use of hand-drawn illustrations as a presentation design trend. Above all, custom illustrations can add warmth and a human touch to your presentations.

Sustainability

Example of sustainable postcard that says "You've played a huge role in making the world more human friendly".

As sustainability continues to be a hot topic, we will see more use of eco-friendly design elements in presentations. This includes the use of recycled paper for handouts, reducing paper waste, and using sustainable materials for presentation materials.

Incorporating these top 2023 presentation design trends will help you create engaging and memorable presentations. Whether you’re using PowerPoint, Google Slides, Keynote, or another presentation tool, these trends can help you stay ahead of the curve and make a lasting impression on your audience. So, embrace these trends and make your next presentation a success!

Presentation design trends: 2023

new presentation trends

Ah! 2023 has dawned and it’s full of fresh possibilities and new opportunities for effective communication. Like boy scouts, BrightCarbon is always prepared. So, we asked our designers and presentation experts what they expect 2023 to bring for presentation design. Is it new year, new you? Or business as usual? The results are in!

The big hitters…

Accessibility

Improved accessibility came out on top, with 40% of our presentation designers naming it as a key area of development for presentations and presentation creation platforms in 2023. Both PowerPoint and Google Slides are regularly adding new features, making it easier for users to create more accessible presentations. So, we’re expecting increased use of alt text, better adherence to contrast guidelines , and an improved understanding of screen-reader compatibility. We’re also expecting to see more requests for presentation slides with room left at the bottom for live caption generation.

As presentations are usually mediated by a presenter, presentation accessibility is a fairly complex topic. If you’re creating your own decks, you might find this starter guide useful: 5 tips for more accessible presentations .

Interactivity

The silver medal goes to interactivity – predicted to be a trend by a third of our designers. Presenters wanting to have better conversations with their audience will lean on presentations with robust navigation to facilitate agile, non-linear paths through their content. Most importantly, with proper menus and navigation, everyone avoids the awkward spectacle of a presenter exiting Show Mode and scrolling through their slides to find what they need. The good news is that it’s pretty easy to add basic interactivity to your decks in PowerPoint and Google Slides .

Our presentation experts expect these interactive presentations to be large, modular decks designed to be broken up into smaller, more targeted presentations. These decks will empower presenters to have better, more flexible conversations. On the one hand, decks like these give salespeople the flexibility they need whilst protecting carefully crafted structure and messaging. On the other, they can quickly become scarily long and unwieldy and your salespeople might need a specialised tool, like our PowerPoint add-in ShowMaker , to stay in control!

We’re also predicting more audience interaction, including live surveys, use of tools like Mentimeter , and the triumphant return of the QR code – all boosting audience engagement and helping presenters collect useful data and feedback.

Our final big hitter is doing diversity better. Our clients want their presentation design to reflect the diversity of their organisations in authentic and meaningful ways. So, we’re looking forward to celebrating diversity through imagery and illustrations, as well as through the stories we’re telling.

A specific focus we’re expecting for 2023 is an awareness of disability diversity. Poor disability representation can look like a token image of someone in a wheelchair – let’s leave this behind in 2022. As explored in Getty Images’ VisualGPS , good disability representation means representing people with a range of visible and invisible disabilities as active members of society across ages and intersecting identity factors.

Honourable mentions…

Though some things are returning to how they were pre-Covid, many won’t be the same again. One reversal we’re not expecting is a complete return to in-person presenting, so don’t delete your custom Zoom backgrounds just yet!

With more flexible working, asynchronous knowledge transfer is becoming more and more popular. We’re expecting an uptick in requests for self-running, scripted videos. Whether it’s talking-head videos or illustrative dynamic animations, videos with bold colours and diverse characters that your audience can enjoy when and where they like are going to be crowd-pleasers in 2023.

With in-person conferences ramping up again, we’re expecting the return of beautiful, bespoke decks developed for specific events. With presenters tackling unusual screen sizes and configurations, big audiences in big rooms, and online and offline attendees – getting a specialist in can really make a difference.

And, as we all pack our bags and jet off to network, BrightCarbon’s presentation design experts are expecting 2023 to bring more requests for one-pagers, leave behinds, and worksheets for in-person events with clear, engaging storytelling and visuals.

Are the robots taking over?

Like most of you, our presentation experts are keeping a beady eye on the robots – and by that we mean AI design. Though AI-generated art is still novel, images generated by AI following user prompts could allow presentation designers to create things that stand out from the generic stock photos others are using – they could even avoid some of the copyright implications of sourcing photos on Google. That said, there are ethical questions about AI generated art that we should be aware of. Will AI art help truly visualise meaning? Probably not. Will everyone be sick of it by the end of the year? Probably! Will everyone try it anyway? Yes, yes they will.

Beauty is in the eye… Presentation design trends for 2023

So, those are the key presentations trends we expect to see in 2023, but what about the design trends that will transform our slides from dull to dazzling this year? Here’s what our presentation design experts predict:

  • Clean, minimal design is going nowhere, so expect to see slides with plenty of white space, clear hierarchy, and minimal text on lots of corporate decks this year. However, where there is colour, it’s going to be bold and vibrant making these slides stand out from the crowd.
  • Gradients are here to stay. They’ve been popular in graphic design for a while and were gaining popularity in presentation design in 2022. A twist we’re expecting in 2023 is custom mesh gradients.
  • In 2023 presentation design, we’ll see less hand-drawn/doodly animations, but patterns and textures will be popular, replacing flat colours in backgrounds and vector illustrations.
  • The new year will bring a touch of nostalgia with it – our presentation designers predict grainy textures and serif fonts to make a comeback.

Why so many corporate presentations look rubbish

  • Industry insights

PowerPoint gives people a lot of freedom, but in a large organisation this can be more of a curse than a blessing. Most employees aren’t designers so it can take them a long time to make presentations, and PowerPoint can encourage the wrong behaviour (not least with its famous ‘Click to add text’ instruction!). How can you improve your corporate presentations?

There are new design trends that grab our attention each year that can make your presentation timely and contemporary. This blog will discuss our predicted design trends for presentation slides in 2023 as well as what elements make a presentation trendy at any point in time. close

Who said that presentations can’t be on trend? Believe it or not, the world of presentation design is not immune to the styles and fads of the design world. You can prove that your brand is fresh and contemporary through the presentation design of your slides. But tastes change, and as we approach the new year, the trend cycle will change and bring new ideas to the forefront of graphic design.

However, there are presentation trends that will always be timeless. These elements will always make a presentation appeal to the audience, no matter what. They grab the audience’s attention right away and hold onto it throughout. So regardless of the trend cycle, these points consistently boost any presentation and are important to keep in mind.

Timeless presentation features:

Engaging and interactive content.

The core of any presentation is the material and how it is shared. It is not enough to list facts; there needs to be room to breathe. By including icebreakers, games, polls, and activities, the listener can directly interact with the information and ideas shared. It bridges the gap between them and gives the audience a chance to connect with the content.

Use of data and visualizations

When data is visualized in charts, graphs, or infographics , is easier to understand. It is helpful for your audience to have a visual medium that they can follow that simplifies your data for them to understand. With the sheer volume of information available, data visualization helps guide the audience through your ideas and data in a way that doesn’t overwhelm them.

Storytelling

Stories have a universal appeal. People relate to them and they can never fail you. Spinning together a story draws the audience into your world, evokes empathy, and establishes a level of trust. Learning how to tell a story is more effective than learning how to persuade. A story can simplify a complex idea while moving your audience to action.

Creative and unique designs

A good presentation design relies on its creative use of design elements, colors, and images. Creative slide design maintains its impact the same way it maintains the audience’s attention. Using engaging design trends can also help explain your ideas more effectively and support your presentation’s flow.

7 Presentation Trends in 2023

The presentation trend cycle is similar to the regular design trend cycle, which makes it easier for our presentation experts to predict what presentation design trends will take over in 2023. There is an emphasis on connecting with your audience in a new way inspired by the Internet age and social media.

01 Dark mode

In interface design, the increasing preference for dark mode for mobile users has translated to incorporating the dark style into web design. For a long and extensive presentation, it is wise to go for a sleek and dim aesthetic that is easier on the eyes and can maintain focus for longer.

Dark mode UX/UI

02 3D graphics

The rise of VR technology, the metaverse, and the love of all things Y2K have revived a strong interest in 3D graphics. Creating a visual experience that draws the viewer into the image has a powerful appeal across several mediums that could continue to rise. 3D backgrounds go beyond the clever use of shadows and now use texture and motion for a touch of attention-grabbing realism.

3D design

03 Experimental typography

Fun and experimental typography are having a moment this year, becoming more popular for film and TV posters. Playing around with different typefaces is a fun approach for your slides to illustrate your brand identity and mission. Serif fonts, in particular, are making a comeback as they are legible, bold, and graceful, achieving both a practical and aesthetic function.

Typography

04 Monochrome

Monochrome color palettes are made by selecting a single color and its various hues. Following the idea of a more comfortable aesthetic, the monochrome trend is simple, practical, and elegant. On another note, a simple color scheme helps brand recognition when creating a presentation design built around the brand’s primary color.

Monochrome design

05 Inclusive visuals

Beyond the world of graphic design, there has been a surge in efforts to include individuals of different cultures, backgrounds, ages, disabilities, locations, and classes. In presentation design, this translates into an effort to showcase a variety of people in the illustrations and visuals used to celebrate diversity.

Inclusive design

06 Branded memes

Memes are an essential part of the fabric of social media; they’re perfect for adding a touch of humor to your presentation. Adapting memes to fit your brand makes your slides more relatable, and adding humor to your presentation helps build a connection with your audience. The art of a tastefully utilized meme can be tricky, but all in all, the main rule is to avoid a controversial meme and stick to a lighthearted approach.

Design Meme

07 Bold and vibrant colors

In previous years, we’ve seen a rise in minimalist and muted styles. But now, designers and viewers alike yearn for a return to brighter and bolder colors. Vibrant colors create attractive and energetic designs, especially when contrasting the trend of geometric and clean shapes. This style doesn’t use these hues as an accent or emphasis, rather they are the design itself.

Bold design

What should you do for a rich and trendy presentation?

Note that presentation trends go beyond quirky graphics and thoughtful color palettes. As technology evolves and progresses, we expect presentation design and graphic design to evolve alongside it. Slide design is an essential component of your presentation, but they are in no way the core, rather they are the starting point. These are factors to consider that will make your presentation stand out from your slides:

Going beyond PowerPoint

As we mentioned, PowerPoint is merely the starting point. But what comes after it? Earlier, we mentioned how interactive games and icebreakers allow your audience to connect with the material. They can also switch up the pace with a diverse approach. Another way to branch out of the typical presentation format is to add videos that can further simplify and explain your point. Hand out brochures as tactile souvenirs that summarize your presentation to leave your listeners with. Have a questions and answers session afterward to open up room for any further inquiries.

Making it mobile-compatible

It is not uncommon for presentation slides to become resources that are reused and revisited. When designing your presentation, make sure that whatever design trend you opt for can be adapted to different formats. The key to a mobile-friendly presentation is simplicity. Increasing the font size, creating cleaner visuals and charts, using mobile-friendly resolutions, and exporting the final product as a PDF.

Utilizing new technology

If you’re ready to truly go above and beyond for a presentation, utilizing new technologies is a surefire way to stand apart from the competition. New technologies now grant new ways for presenters and audiences to interact with and visualize the material. From holograms to augmented reality to real-time data visualization, these technologies offer exciting opportunities to explore ideas and concepts through an original and stimulating channel.

Incorporating presentation design trends into your slides ensures that your brand is as relevant as ever. As graphic design evolves as a field, there will be a trickle-down effect that reaches presentation design. Presenters and designers alike are constantly thinking of new and innovative ways to share ideas, so why not ride the wave?

8 Possible Presentation Design Trends 2022 We Need to Prepare

Ulfah Alifah

possible presentation design trends 2022

Table of Contents

When putting together an engaging presentation slide, there are two things we need to keep in mind: design and function. In other words, your slides look attractive, but they also need to give people information and ideas in the most user-friendly format possible.

A professionally designed PowerPoint template exploding with new design trends through customizable slides is the only way to achieve that.

Design trends can shape everything from how designers create user interface design to future websites to package design iterations. They can also zoom in or fade out quickly, making it essential to pay attention to what’s trending now so that you don’t end up with a design that falls out of style quickly.

All in all, before we settle into this brave new year, here are 8 possible presentation design trends that we predict in 2022 some of the best presentation templates to execute them.

What are the big presentation design trends that will pop up next year?

The 80s and 90s are returning, typography is taking a leading role, and dynamic gradients are ascending to new heights. Visual styles, meanwhile, run the scale from psychedelic high-tech to whimsically handcrafted.

Three-Dimensional Design Elements

While 2020 and 2021 saw lots of designers tackling full, three-dimensional designs for any design project, the emerging trend is to incorporate elements of 3D with a flatter overall aesthetic.

Three-dimensional elements can help provide extra understanding for a design, such as the architectural rendering above, or enhance visual interest.

Think about how to capture your story or product in a way that highlights the depths of the field and shadows.

Memphis Design

Memphis design—one of the defining aesthetics of the 1980s—is sometimes thought of as a flashy style, pairing many chaotic patterns and shapes together.

This attitude rings especially true today when minimalistic approaches have led to a sea of interfaces that (while intuitive) are overwhelmingly uniform.

It is no wonder why many presentation designers are turning to Memphis design for an explosion of colorful personalities no visitor will soon forget.

Typography as the central figure.

In 2022, there’s no wrong way to do typography. Big, bold fonts — even serifs — are everywhere. And they look fantastic.

When playing with this presentation design trend, think about how the typefaces will respond (everything looks different on a mobile screen) and maximize impact for visitors.

From outlines to color fonts to shifting shapes and fills, bold and experimental type options dominate presentation designs.

The design of those presentation templates uses multiple type effects on the homepage that exemplify this trend: Mix and match characters within the main headline, a somewhat experimental font choice, and colored fill layers with images and backgrounds.

Minimalism is still a noteworthy style as the possible presentation design trends 2022.

Minimal presentation design is always in fashion because it’s a surefire way of showing information clearly and concisely.

In its most simple terms, Neumorphism is a minimalist approach that’s all about giving buttons, switches, and other design elements a real-life 3D look and feel, which has made it wildly popular among app developers.

new presentation trends

Did you know that the Neumorphism style is also popular in the presentation design world?

Muted earth tone.

We strode out into the great outdoors with indoor spaces closed down, whether for a hike up a mountain or a stroll around the local park. And this renewed relationship with our environment is influencing contemporary presentation design too.

Lockdown life may have restricted our options, but it also reintroduced many of us to nature.

Up and down the presentation agency, we’re seeing designers choose muted, calm, and earth tones in terms of background colors and illustrations.

This is a modest approach to design. It is also easier to look at and doesn’t strain our eyes too much. If you’re hoping to increase the time audiences stick around on your slides, you could do far worse than follow it.

That’s a philosophy that’s right in the wheelhouse of LA digital agency  Signature Creative , who create ‘digital products & design for the people of Earth’ and describe themselves as ‘Good people making great things. Their design combines muted earthy colors with clear, easy-to-read typography and a restrained layout that incorporates calming white space.

Glassmorphism.

The first hints of glassmorphism started with neomorphic in late 2020 and early 2021 and evolved into the full glass effect that’s popular now.

Glassmorphism is just what you might think: Design elements that have a look that’s reminiscent of glass.

Designers have played with this one of the possible presentation design trends 2022 in a major way on Dribbble.

Dynamic Gradients

Colorful gradients will be a comeback in 2022, and it looks like they’re here to stay! Gradients are the gradual transition from one color to another, creating a blended effect. So, what makes them so awesome? Firstly, they add a vibrant pop of color to your design in a way that doesn’t feel overbearing. They’re also a great way to add extra visual depth to your presentation design, as they create a dynamic, almost multi-dimensional effect.

The designer has artfully blended three different colors to create an eye-catching aesthetic that personifies the brand’s fun, modern qualities.

The beauty of this design trend is how versatile it is. You can create gradients using similar colors such as blue or yellow or create unexpected combinations using contrasting shades like purple and orange.

No matter how you want to play with gradients, these PowerPoint templates are a great place to start. You can easily swap out the colors, fonts, and images with your own to create a design that is unique to your brand.

Retro Revolution/Retro

As the beginning of the World Wide Web increasingly becomes a distant memory, today’s up-and-coming designers are taking inspiration from those early Wild West days. Web 1.0 of the 90s was characterized by bright background colors, visual table layouts, and robotic typefaces like Courier.

While the 90s internet was a showcase of unnecessary gimmicks, graphics, and colors, it was also a time when the rules had not yet been written—when “a web designer” wasn’t even a job.

The designers that have come up since—reigned in by industry standards—now see those early days as a hotbed for the free creativity of all graphic designers, especially for presentation designers nowadays.

So, what are the possible presentation design trends 2022?

The possible presentation design trends 2022 describe another step forward, but that’s nothing fresh on the internet. The future drives quickly in our current era, and digital designers often spread the way. But what makes these trends feel refreshing is their focus on creating satisfaction.

Whether they are bringing back a forgotten decade, delighting the user with interactions and animations, or offering up something handmade, the goal of this year’s presentation design trends is to tell a momentary sense of astonishment. No matter how unconventional their approach.

Presentation Design Trends in 2022

  • By: Amy Boone

You’ve got great ideas. Exciting products. A cutting edge company. A compelling story. So a tired 2010 PowerPoint slide template just won’t cut it in 2022. It’s time to update your presentation to reflect current design trends.

We’ve scoured online design sites and recent presentations to compile a list of current presentation design trends. Some of our favorite trends include creative color palettes, less-is-more design, infographics, custom fonts, and original elements. Here’s how to use these trends to freshen up your presentation design.

Creative Color Palettes

Presentations in 2022 are all about creative color palettes, particularly retro ones. Kimp design company says, “The retro color tones work well in graphic design because they act as standalone design pieces.” One of the more popular retro color palettes gives a nod to mid-century design by featuring muted and earthy rusts, mustards, and greens. And the 80’s are also making a comeback with everything from bold neon to Memphis design elements (think shapes and squiggles). Presentation slide decks in 2022 aren’t afraid to put a new spin on retro color palettes. For example, check out the TED poster for their April conference.

Less-Is-More Design

Presentation designs in 2022 are bold and simple. It’s not about adding more design elements, it’s about making the ones that you use pop. The more you have on your slides, the more everything gets diluted. So slide decks of 2022 keep the focus strong and simple. In other words, slide clutter is out. Remember that the main job of your slide deck is to do what words can’t. In other words, save the words for your talk, and save the slides for everything else. That means you should avoid slides that are all words and instead use a few simple, powerful graphics to back up what you are saying.

Infographics

Granted, infographics have been a design trend for some time now, but they continue to be important elements in slide decks in 2022. Infographics blend words and visuals in a pleasing and easy-to-understand layout. For example, Canva (one of our favorite free design tools) offers infographic templates to help get you started. Check out this one on charity action. The great thing about infographics is that they have layers of information which allow your audience members more individualized interaction with your content. You can get everything you need to know in a quick glance, allowing you to shift your attention quickly back to the presentation. Or, if it’s something that really interests you or something that you don’t quite understand, you can “dive in” further and explore the infographic in more detail.

Custom Fonts

When designing your presentations, don’t skip past font choice. Modern presentations are serious about choosing a font that helps add to the overall tone of the presentation and content. Forget Arial, Times New Roman, and even Calibri. Modern presentation designers know that fonts communicate, too. So what you use matters. Designers often use the mantra “purpose is paramount.” Meaning you have to keep in mind how your audience will be using the text. When choosing a font, ask yourself:

  • How large will the screen be?
  • What other elements will be on the slide?
  • How much text will my audience be reading?
  • How long will this slide be on the screen?
  • What tone do I want my font to set?

Once you’ve answered these questions, choose a font that is attractive, legible, and interesting without being boring. And don’t be afraid to play around with line spacing, letter spacing, and kerning to help give your font choice some distinction. For some more creative ideas on font selection, check out DesignShack’s list of 2022 font trends .

Original Elements

With the increase in free design and online drawing programs, we are seeing more hand drawn and original design elements in slide decks. Artists like Morgan Harper Nichols have gained incredible popularity in large part due to the ease of creating art with technology and sharing it quickly through social media. Another one of my favorite creatives is Austin Kleon , who describes himself as a writer who draws. His incredible presentations often include hand drawn elements like the one below.

new presentation trends

So instead of trying to find the perfect graphic (or font), consider creating one yourself. You might find that your hand drawn element gives your presentation a unique appeal and charm that is right on trend.

Embracing Design Trends

Outdated presentation designs aren’t doing you any favors. If your slide deck looks outdated, you risk the audience thinking your ideas are outdated, too. But when you update your presentation design to reflect some or all of the trends listed above, you can build energy around your presentation and ideas.

Need help creating a fresh, new presentation or updating a current one to reflect modern design trends? We’ve got you.

How to Make a “Good” Presentation “Great”

  • Guy Kawasaki

new presentation trends

Remember: Less is more.

A strong presentation is so much more than information pasted onto a series of slides with fancy backgrounds. Whether you’re pitching an idea, reporting market research, or sharing something else, a great presentation can give you a competitive advantage, and be a powerful tool when aiming to persuade, educate, or inspire others. Here are some unique elements that make a presentation stand out.

  • Fonts: Sans Serif fonts such as Helvetica or Arial are preferred for their clean lines, which make them easy to digest at various sizes and distances. Limit the number of font styles to two: one for headings and another for body text, to avoid visual confusion or distractions.
  • Colors: Colors can evoke emotions and highlight critical points, but their overuse can lead to a cluttered and confusing presentation. A limited palette of two to three main colors, complemented by a simple background, can help you draw attention to key elements without overwhelming the audience.
  • Pictures: Pictures can communicate complex ideas quickly and memorably but choosing the right images is key. Images or pictures should be big (perhaps 20-25% of the page), bold, and have a clear purpose that complements the slide’s text.
  • Layout: Don’t overcrowd your slides with too much information. When in doubt, adhere to the principle of simplicity, and aim for a clean and uncluttered layout with plenty of white space around text and images. Think phrases and bullets, not sentences.

As an intern or early career professional, chances are that you’ll be tasked with making or giving a presentation in the near future. Whether you’re pitching an idea, reporting market research, or sharing something else, a great presentation can give you a competitive advantage, and be a powerful tool when aiming to persuade, educate, or inspire others.

10 New Presentation Trends

Last Updated on March 6, 2024 by Peter Z

How will presentations look like in 2021? The past year has shown that there are things that most of us cannot predict. However, there is also something we can anticipate based on observations, and indicate that some tendencies may be becoming more popular.

I have prepared a list of presentation trends which as an art director I observe now on the market. The choice is made on the basis of last year’s projects of our agency for various business sectors, conversations with clients and with our team of graphic designers. Here are 10 directions that I believe will be important in 2021.

You might want to incorporate some ideas into your presentations right away, so read on 🙂

1. Creative data visualization

Data is everywhere. During the last year, many of us were following the statistics of COVID-19 cases. Depending on the needs, they can be illustrated in different ways.

Every day we are flooded with big amounts of data, which often need to be shown in the presentation. This year, even more emphasis will be placed on showing the data in an eye-catching, graphical way, so that it is quickly understood and remembered. Some common errors in data presentation are described in the article “ 5 errors in charts used in PowerPoint “. I also recommend a great book “Data story” by Nancy Duarte.

Below you can see several examples for a creative bar chart visualization on a slide.

Creative KPI data-driven column chart

2. Creative photo masks

While looking for a way out of the appearance of the standard slides, I see the increasing use of irregular shapes for photos or charts with data, and for this, you can use the masking technique .

Using masks allows you to give a creative custom shape to a photo. For instance, you can use a blob shape – that is connected with personal organic style.

Here is the example of such slide:

About Us What We Do, our USP, our Competitive Advantage

3. Infographic slides for data storytelling

The infographics is combination of graphics that explains certain story or present data in graphical way. It can have a form of highly customized data chart or enhanced flowchart with additional graphical elements. Infographic is not new but now they will become even more essential also in context of presentation slides. More and more people will present the key numbers along with their visualization.

You can make such slides relatively quickly in PowerPoint, using a few simple design tricks – composing infographics from standard PPT shapes (don’t worry, you don’t have to be a professional designer, just get some initial inspiration):

Survey participants statistics chart- roles infographics template

4. Minimalism in presentation

Minimalistic graphics are not a new trend, but they remain on top all the time.

A good example here is the graphics in the contour style (as we call them outline), which is distinguished by simplicity and elegance. It helps to focus on the content and highlight the most important information.

5 circles Venn diagram illustrated with outline icons

5. More photos and icons

Adding icons and images helps to build associations, which makes it easier to remember content. That’s why more and more of these elements will appear in presentations.

Replacing text with graphics will work especially on slides which are presented, while on slides that are intended for reading (in so called slideuments), icons will be a good addition.

Essential tools for home office and remote slide

6. Return of gradients

Gradients (tonal transitions between colors) will be used more often to fill icons or apply color to photos. Regular flat graphics will take on a deeper character.

To get a modern gradient effect in PowerPoint, it is better to set the color transitions manually, rather than use Quick styles offered by MS Office. The predefined Quick Styles contain gradients and 3D effects but they look pretty obsolete.

See an example of modern tonal transitions applied on a slide:

7. Pantone Color of 2021

Every year, PANTONE company selects a color that will characterize the year. This year it is a combination of yellow and gray, which even better emphasizes the expressive shade of the former. Yellow symbolizes optimism and energy, something that is needed to survive the year 2021.

8. Involvement of presentation participants

Due to the rising amount of remote meetings, interactive slides will appear. They will give the possibility of greater participant involvement, e.g.they can make notes and add tags.

In order not to lose the attention of viewers, large differences in the contrast between slides will be applied. For example, the background color will be changed from slide to slide.

Below you can see an example of a slide that can be used to collect answers from participants in a meeting, for instance, in zoom. You can ask participants to write their answers to a white rectangle, just like you would do on a whiteboard or flipchart.

9. Less intensity of colors

More muted and less flashy color palette is definitely a rising trend. For example, pastel colors will be used in combination with dark colors to create a contrast. Here are the color trends according to color Adobe.

10. Organic shapes

Organic, soft, natural, asymmetrical shapes are becoming increasingly popular. They can appear as a background element or superimposed on a photo, as shown in the following slide. Here, for example, I have integrated a mask of organic shapes into a PowerPoint template. You can paste your own photo in such shapes.

8 Social Media Trends for 2024

Explore long-term trends shaping your marketing strategy, from AI-driven content creation to the rise of social commerce. Stay ahead in 2024 with insights on video formats, authentic connections, influencer strategies, and ROI priorities.

[Featured image] Six people stand in a circle holding their cell phones while looking at social media sites.

Some aspects of social media trends can move quickly—for example, trending sounds or memes. Following these types of trends can help dictate the content you produce and post on a daily or weekly basis. Since they shift quickly, the best way to stay up-to-date on immediate trends is to become an active user on the platforms you’re managing and notice the recurring topics, audio, and formats that populate your feed.

Other types of social media trends are more long-term, and you can use these to inform your overarching social media marketing strategy and content calendar. These types of trends tend to have to do with shifts in user behaviors—like preferences for video over static images—and platform functionality—like social media companies introducing on-platform shopping features.

In this article, we’ll discuss the dominant social media trends for 2024 that you can use as you shape your marketing strategy :

Artificial intelligence (AI) is being used to create content and improve performance.

Short-form video rules, but long-form content may gain traction.

Consumer shopping habits are boosting social commerce.

Social media platforms are becoming viable search engines.

Followers are seeking authentic connections.

Content creators and influencers are core pieces of social media strategy.

Personalization is increasing in importance.

Brands will prioritize social platforms by return on investment (ROI).

To compile these current trends, we synthesized findings from several industry reports and studies from companies like Sprout Social, Hootsuite, HubSpot , and Gartner.

As you read through this list, remember that your social media strategy may not necessarily include every aspect of this list. It’s important to consider how well these trends align with your business goals. If you’d like to learn more about social media fundamentals, like identifying your target audience and choosing the right social media platforms for your business, start with the Meta Social Media Marketing Professional Certificate .

1. AI is being used to create content and improve performance.

Marketing professionals are using generative AI (GenAI) tools, like ChatGPT and Google Gemini , to improve their day-to-day processes and tasks. A 2023 report from Sprout Social found that 80 percent of marketers say that AI has positively impacted their work, with 78 percent reporting that they have more time for creativity and 73 percent reporting increased efficiency [ 1 ]. They also found that, in 2024, marketers plan on using AI for social media tasks including analyzing data, content creation, advertising campaign targeting, building chatbots, and more.

Using GenAI for content creation

A 2024 HubSpot survey found that marketers are already using GenAI throughout the content creation process. Of those using GenAI for content creation, 45 percent are using it to generate ideas, 31 percent are using it to outline content, and 18 percent are using it to draft content. What’s more, 56 percent of marketers who use GenAI say their AI-assisted content performs better than content created without‌ it. Overall, 63 percent of marketers predict that most content created in 2024 will be done in part using GenAI tools [ 2 ].

These numbers are encouraging, however, keep your audience and brand voice in mind as you incorporate AI into your social media posts. In a 2024 survey, Hootsuite found that 62 percent of consumers are less likely to engage with or trust AI-generated content—a sentiment that's particularly pronounced among older generations [ 3 ].

Using AI for marketing analytics

Social media marketers have been using engagement metrics and similar data to inform their content calendar for quite some time. Now, you can use AI to enhance your analysis capabilities, producing more robust insights and reliable trend predictions. According to a 2023 report from The Work Innovation Lab, 30 percent of workers already use AI for data analysis, and 62 percent of workers want to use AI for data analysis [ 4 ].

There are a few ways you can start incorporating AI into your marketing analytics. Some common social media tools, like Sprout Social, offer AI-powered features within their interface, but you can also prompt ChatGPT to conduct a data analysis .

2. Short-form video rules, but long-form content may gain traction.

Consumers primarily want brand social media accounts to focus on short-form videos, like those found on TikTok, Instagram Reels, or YouTube Shorts, according to a report from Sprout Social [ 5 ]. This desire is generally aligned with what social media marketers are already doing, as HubSpot found that over half of marketers who include short-form video in their marketing strategy plan to increase their investment in it throughout 2024 [ 2 ].

However, it’s worth noting that TikTok has been testing the boundaries of social media users’ attention spans. In January 2024, TechCrunch reported that the app expanded their long-form upload limits to 30 minutes after previously testing 3-minute, 10-minute, and 15-minute limits [ 6 ].

3. Consumer shopping habits are boosting social commerce.

An increasing number of social media users are making purchases directly in their apps. According to Statista, in 2023, there were 106.8 million social buyers in the US. By 2027, they forecast that this figure will grow by over 10 percent to 118 million [ 7 ]. In another study, Statista reported that 37.4 percent of US TikTok users, 36 percent of US Facebook users, and 34.4 percent of US Instagram users made a purchase on the respective social media platform [ 8 ].

At the same time, social media companies are making it easier to shop on their platforms—take, for example, the introduction of the TikTok shop—which can help to encourage in-app consumer behaviors.

4. Social media platforms are becoming viable search engines.

The social media landscape has expanded beyond the newsfeed. Now, more users are treating the platforms as search engines. Prabhakar Raghavan, a Google senior vice president, said that the company estimates 40 percent of young people use TikTok or Instagram as search engines [ 9 ]. This user trend underscores the importance of understanding the search and discovery features on your social media channels and optimizing your content for them.

5. Followers are seeking authentic connections.

When you’re thinking about how to communicate with your social media audiences, authenticity should be top of mind. According to Sprout Social’s Index Report, here are the top five things consumers say they don’t see enough of from brands on social media [ 1 ]:

Authentic, non-promotional content

Transparency about business practices and values

Information about product sourcing and production

Educational content about the brand’s industry

User-generated content (UGC) and customer testimonials

What’s more, in their Content Benchmark Report, Sprout Social asked users who they want to see featured on brand social media platforms, and their responses largely skewed toward average people: front-line employees (48 percent), social media teams (42 percent), and real customers (42 percent). Meanwhile, executive leadership lagged in popularity, with only 15 percent of respondents expressing that desire [ 5 ]. Separately, a Hootsuite survey reports that 56 percent of consumers think brands should be more relatable on social media, which plays into one of the key reasons people turn to the platforms in the first place: to be entertained and to unwind [ 3 ].

As you think about how to maintain relevance on your brand's social media accounts, it’s worth considering how you can show up authentically and foster a genuine connection with your target audience.

6. Content creators and influencers are core pieces of social media strategy.

Speaking of authenticity, sometimes, it’s easier for audiences to believe something about your brand when the information comes from a third party. This is part of the reason why marketers continue to include content creators and influencers in their social media strategy. According to HubSpot, 50 percent of marketers who use influencer marketing plan to increase their investment in their strategy in 2024 [ 2 ].

However, it’s not just known influencers that social media marketers are turning toward, but also the average content creator. User-generated content (UGC) has emerged as a cost-effective way to promote brand awareness and products in a way that feels more natural than influencer partnerships can feel. A report from Gartner found that over 80 percent of consumers believe that UGC improves product discovery, brand trust, and experience [ 10 ].

7. Personalization is increasing in importance.

According to Sprout Social, 51 percent of consumers say the most memorable brands on social media respond to customers, 76 percent value how quickly a brand responds to their needs, and 70 percent expect a personalized response to customer service needs [ 1 ].

To efficiently accommodate this high-touch service, social media teams are turning again to AI, using chatbots and automation tools that can respond to basic customer needs—and it seems to be working. HubSpot reports that 72 percent of marketers agree that these tools help them ‌personalize the customer experience, and 58 percent of marketers plan to increase their investments in AI and automation in 2024 [ 2 ].

8. Brands will prioritize social platforms by ROI.

Brand leaders are thinking more strategically about the business value of their chosen platforms and prioritizing efforts on those that deliver the strongest ROI. This trend may be driven by two important points:

A decline in user trust stands to reshape the way people use social media, making it more important for brands to use social media wisely. Gartner forecasts that by 2025, 50 percent of consumers will significantly limit their social media usage due to their perception of platform quality [ 10 ].

According to Hootsuite, as social media teams increasingly feel overextended by the number of platforms they’re managing, they’re assessing which platforms are delivering the results they want to see and are dropping their use of those that aren’t [ 3 ].

Hootsuite breaks down the biggest platform usage changes from 2022 to 2023, with TikTok and LinkedIn seeing the greatest increases in use (16 percent and 5 percent, respectively), and WhatsApp, Pinterest, and X seeing the greatest decreases in use (18 percent, 11 percent, and 7 percent, respectively) [ 3 ]. Meanwhile, HubSpot reports that the platforms with the strongest ROI, according to marketers, are Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok [ 2 ].

From Proposal to Presentation: A Guide to Speaking at AU 2024

how to submit proposal at AU

Looking back at 2023, I have many personal and professional highlights. But perhaps one of the biggest professional milestones was the opportunity to speak at Autodesk University 2023, the Design & Make conference.

With an array of engaging sessions, classes, and keynotes for professionals in the architecture, engineering, construction, and operations (AECO) space, AU has always held a special place in my calendar. Last year, I was deeply honored to talk about a topic close to my heart: diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) within the AECO industry.

Sharing my story was an empowering experience, and the exciting news is, it’s your turn now! Proposals for speakers at AU 2024 are open until April 30. If you have a unique viewpoint or an engaging idea, don’t hold back. Take the plunge, submit your proposal, and become a part of AU 2024: Submit your proposal .

Submit your proposal

It might seem daunting, but I promise you the journey is incredibly rewarding. Plus, the Autodesk community is here to support you. Ready to take the leap? Below I walk you through my own experience from the earliest idea and proposal stage through the event and beyond.

And if you’re looking for even more inspiration, you can check out my session from last year: BIMigration: Transforming AECO Through Immigration, Diversity, and Technology

From Idea to Action

DEIB has been an ongoing discussion in today’s world, it really came to the forefront during the COVID pandemic. I felt that more conversations needed to happen, especially in the AECO industry and people needed a platform to present their stories and experiences. I was profoundly moved by Shir Rustici , a global project manager at Symetri, and her panel’s discussion at AU 2022: Beyond One Gender: The Power of Diversity and Inclusion. The panelists’ candid stories and shared challenges as women in the AECO industry were truly enlightening. Since AU has a diverse and global audience, it seemed to be the ideal platform to share these narratives, including those of immigrants in our industry.

The Submission Process

Working alongside my colleagues, several of whom are immigrants themselves, was a truly collaborative experience. Greg Lehrer , Vice President of Consulting Services at Symetri, provided valuable guidance as we refined the title of our panel. My colleagues and fellow panelists, Eve Lin and Shir Rustici, were invaluable sources of knowledge as we assembled our panel submission and eagerly awaited the team’s final decision.

I strongly encourage you also seek out insights from your colleagues when you’re crafting your session proposal. Their unique perspectives and constructive feedback can be instrumental during the submission process. Collaboration not only improves your presentation but also broadens your understanding of the topic you’re addressing.

Planning the Session

The real work kicked off once our proposal was accepted. Overall, planning the panel was an intense and exhilarating process. Teamwork was our cornerstone, and my fellow panelists Eve Lin , Shir Rustici, Thesla Collier (HNTB), and Nima Azad gave the right blend of insight and perspective to ensure our planning was successful.

Our tasks included finalizing the panel structure, brainstorming thought-provoking questions to engage our audience, and most importantly, ensuring our panel was inclusive. All these elements required careful consideration and effective collaboration.

The AU Session Experience

All in all, the panel was amazing, and it felt good to share our stories with the audience. We ensured that our collective thoughts and efforts were reflected in our presentation.

For those who are considering presenting for the first time, I would suggest submitting one or two sessions and dedicating your time and energy to making them as close to perfect as possible. The investment is absolutely worth it. In the end, seeing the innovative and inspiring session you’ve created and sharing it with your industry colleagues is a rewarding experience you won’t forget.

The Ripple Effect

The weeks and months after AU 2023 have been surreal. From our session being named Top-Rated, to being honored as The Big Room Member of the Month, and now having this wonderful opportunity to contribute to the Digital Builder Blog—it’s been a thrilling ride!

I owe a special thanks to my mentor, Matt Wunch , who provided invaluable guidance in preparing our successful panel, and to Alex Eckhart for his dedication in the Big Room, a fantastic platform for connecting with fellow construction professionals.

Autodesk has been a guiding force in our industry, and it feels good to see them moving forward with such a great vision for the future!

Your story matters. Don’t forget to submit your proposal by April 30. I hope to see you on stage at AU 2024!

And another way you can have your voice heard? Join The Big Room , an online community designed for you to collaborate, ideate, and grow with other construction professions.

9 Advertising Trends to Watch in 2024 [New Data + Expert Insights]

Published: April 09, 2024

Advertising is an ever-changing beast — with those on ad and marketing teams working hard to stay ahead of trends.

woman learns about advertising trends

In 2023, we saw the emergence of AI in all forms of content, the rise of personalization, augmented realities (including the metaverse), and the explosion of short-form video.

As a seasoned content marketer working in tech, I’ve noticed that advertising trends in 2024 seem to respond to the trends we saw in 2023.

For example, if my ad team was firmly against using artificial intelligence last year, I’d need to catch up with everyone who initially embraced it.

You might even be using AI without knowing it, with Google using AI in paid search to create relevant ads.

In 2024, advertisers will need to stay on top of trends, or their ad money won’t go as far. In this article, I’ll discuss upcoming advertising trends and how you can leverage these stats to increase engagement, value, and sales.

Digital Advertising Trends in 2024

While ad spending is predicted to spike in 2024 , teams will likely be more responsible for how ads perform as companies tighten their budgets in anticipation of a recession.

Knowing and using the latest trends to your advantage can help you get more value out of the money you spend on advertising this year.

new presentation trends

Artificial intelligence has existed, to some degree, for the last 70 years. Yet, it’s only in the last couple of years that it’s become a mainstream idea in the advertising space.

Many business leaders believe we underestimate AI’s impact on companies, with 65% reporting that AI will rival the Industrial Revolution in its impact on productivity.

What does this mean for you?

In 2024, AI will be one of the best ways businesses can scale their growth and increase the quality of their advertisements.

If you want to leverage AI more than you currently do, consider hiring an AI expert or consultant to help you integrate AI into your work processes and advertising efforts.

I may not have an AI expert on staff, but I definitely experiment with these new tools to see where they work best. I’m not alone. HubSpot Program Manager Kaitlin Milliken also takes the time to test AI solutions like ChatGPT.

"AI may not be the best at coming up with creative concepts or writing the copy itself, but I use AI to eliminate manual tasks and supplement my skills," Milliken says. "I had to work with large sets of images for a project. I used ChatGPT to create a Python script that managed the files for me. That’s saved me hours."

If you don’t have the budget to hire an AI expert right now, there’s no reason why you can’t start consulting AI programs like Gemini or ChatGPT during every stage of the advertising process.

I like to use AI during brainstorming, ideation, content writing, planning, and more. Check out this blog on AI in Digital Marketing for more information.

2. Integrating Email Marketing With Other Channels

" While 87% report email is critical to their success, only 24% of email marketing programs are integrated into other marketing channels ." ( Litmus )

It’s no secret that email marketing has one of the best ROIs of any digital marketing channel. Unfortunately, most marketing teams aren’t integrating email marketing programs into other marketing channels, limiting email’s impact.

How can you integrate email into your other marketing channels?

The first step to successfully integrating email programs into other channels is segmenting your lists (of emails) by audience type and making sure advertisements and content fit their needs.

For example, in my email lists, I will segment by industry, size of their business, products purchased in the past, and areas of interest. If you don’t know the answers to these questions, adjust your forms to require these questions.

Once you’ve segmented, you will then want to optimize your email delivery and automate your distribution. If you’re running an advertisement that’s costing you a fortune in PPC, be sure those on your email lists know about it first.

For more ideas on integrating email campaigns, check out this blog here.

3. Social Media Advertising

" Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok have the strongest ROI — and these align with where marketers are investing in 2024 ."  ( HubSpot State of Marketing )

I’ve found that where I choose to display my ads is just as important as the actual ads. If you’re not currently investing in one of these platforms, there’s a good chance you’re missing out on potential leads.

In fact, 27% of marketers who don’t use YouTube plan to start in the year ahead.

There’s also the looming possibility of the U.S. government banning TikTok, which could, in turn, skyrocket the cost of advertising on remaining platforms and oversaturate those markets if you aren’t ahead of the curve.

How can you get a strong ROI from social media platforms?

In 2024, a deep understanding of social media buying is vital for getting a good ad ROI. Careful planning and organization will ensure you’re investing in the right platforms. Check out this free media buying template to get started.

Be sure to monitor your ads’ performance to identify which platform provides the best bang for your buck. If a certain platform is lagging, consider investing in organic content marketing on that website instead of paid ads.

Creating a video-centric social media strategy might be the most crucial trend you will follow in 2024.

While certain social media platforms have always favored video (Youtube, TikTok, etc.), platforms that haven’t always done so now do favor video (Instagram, Facebook, X). Here are some social media ad trends you need to know.

4. Consistently Post on X

" 66% of marketers will keep their brand on Twitter/ X."  ( HubSpot )

Despite Twitter’s rebranding to X and extensive layoffs last year by owner Elon Musk, the majority of marketers intend to keep their brand on X.

This is likely due to how simple the app is to use for quick updates, PR, and conversion, even with minimal time and money.

new presentation trends

There are two different types of video ads that marketers can use on Instagram: traditional advertisements, which can be static images or videos, and sponsored video content.

Sponsored video content is when your brand pays an influencer with either product, money, or both to talk about your brand. Most social media platforms require influencers to use hashtags that identify the video as a paid advertisement so viewers will know that the influencer was compensated to say what they’re saying.

Why Sponsored Video Content Works on Instagram

Many have speculated that Instagram changed its algorithm to favor video content as a response to the growing popularity of TikTok.

With the introduction of the “Instagram Reels” feature, brands have begun publishing short-form video content on the app.

2024 is likely to bring a lot of competition to the Instagram Reels scene, particularly if a TikTok ban does occur. So get started on posting on Instagram today with these helpful tips.

6. Influencer Marketing

"30% of brands already work with influencers/creators, and 42% plan to begin this year."  ( HubSpot Instagram Marketing Report )

Influencer content is predicted to have a high ROI in 2024 , so it makes sense that more brands plan to work closely with creators. There are many ways to work with influencers.

While most influencer-involved content has to be labeled as an advertisement, you move into the gray area of advertising by sending influencers Public Relationship (PR) boxes.

PR boxes are a way for influencers to try new products and give their honest review. However, there’s no guarantee that they will review your PR box, so be sure to do your homework and pay careful attention to personalization.

Check out this blog on influencer marketing in 2024 for more ideas.

new presentation trends

Because so many famous TikTok influencers were on the Tarte trip, everyone’s "for you" feed was flooded with Tarte-sponsored content.

While the Tarte trip must have cost a pretty penny, in my opinion, they likely made this back tenfold with the brand and product awareness they got.

Other ad trends in 2024 include marketers’ preferred audiences, experiential marketing, and the importance of personalization. Keep reading to learn about other emerging trends in advertising.

7. Experiential Marketing

"16% of marketers plan to try experiential marketing (engaging audiences in real life with pop-ups and events) for the first time." ( HubSpot )

Experiential marketing is the actual experience your audience has at events, trade shows, or during campaigns.

The 2020 pandemic canceled most in-person events or forced marketers to make them virtual events, putting experiential marketing in the back seat.

However, now that restrictions have been lifted, experiential marketing is having a hay day, with 77% of marketers using it as a key part of their plan.

How can you use experiential marketing in 2024?

If you’re planning on attending any shows this year, make sure your booth is both eye-catching and memorable . If you’re marketing a new product this year, think outside the box and really consider your user experience.

Some past experiential campaigns have included branded filters on social media, fun pop-up shops, interactive content , giveaways, and more. You might also consider how virtual reality can improve your marketing.

8. Personalization

"73% of marketers say personalization is important, but only 35% believe their customers get a very personalized experience from their brand."  ( HubSpot State of Marketing)

Personalization is an important aspect of marketing in 2024 because most industries are supersaturated with similar products, and it’s getting harder to stand out .

While creating a personalized experience can be time-consuming, there are now several tools that can assist in the process.

For example, I was once contacted by a marketer from Reachdesk (a company that specializes in personal gifting), and the marketer sent me a watercolor set because my profile described my love of painting.

This attention to detail and personalization got my attention and my interest in their product. If you’re new to personalization and want to consult an expert, consider trying Hubspot’s Technical Consulting .

Check out this blog to explore more brands that take personalization seriously.

What does personalization look like in 2024?

In 2024, personalization looks like full names in email subject lines, abandoned shopping cart emails/texts with discount codes, product recommendations based on search history, chatbots to customize web experiences, and more.

To ensure your customers are getting the best-personalized experience, consider sending out surveys that ask customers how easily they can navigate your website and what features they’d like to see added.

9. Targeting Generational Audiences

"74% of marketers want to reach Millenials, 67% want to reach Gen X, and only 27% are interested in Baby Boomer audiences."  ( HubSpot State of Marketing)

Generations that grew up using the internet are increasingly the target of marketers. Seen as “digital natives,” millennials and Gen X are often key decision-makers with purchasing power at organizations.

In my opinion, this trend is likely due to marketing largely taking place online versus traditional advertising means, which had more in-person meetings and physical advertisements.

How can you reach digital natives in 2024?

The best way to reach each generation is to understand what kind of advertising works for them. Millennials primarily engage with social media, apps, and brands that care about social issues.

Gen X prefers to discover products through search, TV ads, and specific social media platforms (Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram). These trends make social media an important investment for companies hoping to reach digital natives.

Only 4% of boomers have purchased a product through social media, while TV ads, internet searches, and retail stores work better for their generation. Check out this blog on how each generation shops for more ideas.

Staying on top of trends is an important part of any marketer or advertiser’s job description. I’ve found it super helpful to subscribe to or follow the HubSpot Blog so I get the latest stats on which trends are working and which ones to avoid.

Some aspects of marketing will never change, such as solving customer problems and "making sure that the customer is representative of a large market" so you can "have a pretty good formula," as Melanie Perkins advises.

As you solve customer problems and try the latest trends this next year, be sure to be consistent in your efforts, track your results, and stay open to new ideas.

Easy Spring Dishes With Time-Saving Shortcuts

Sautéed salmon with tomatoes and leeks, chilaquiles verdes and one-pan orzo with spinach and feta welcome a little kitchen cheating.

Melissa Clark

By Melissa Clark

A filet of salmon with sautéed leeks and tomatoes is on a gray speckled ceramic plate with a black-handled fork.

I confess: I refuse to blanch, peel and seed a tomato, even if the recipe says to. Every cook has a fussiness threshold, and that exceeds mine.

So when the whole blanch-peel-seed thing comes up in dishes as delightful as Pierre Franey’s sautéed salmon with leeks and tomatoes , I simply cheat and throw unblanched, unpeeled, unseeded chopped tomatoes into the pan, where they release their sweet juices and coat the leeks just as richly. The skin and seeds may add a bit more texture, but certainly not enough to distract from the velvety fish and tender leeks, and I’ve saved 10 precious minutes.

Sautéed Salmon With Leeks and Tomatoes

View Recipe →

Ifrah F. Ahmed’s cagaar (spinach stew) calls for zero tomato peeling, so cheating is unnecessary. The chopped tomatoes are simmered with garlic and onions until they form a savory, ruddy base for the soft green mound of spinach and cilantro. Seasoned with warm xawaash spices and a jalapeño, it’s a complex vegan dish that’s best served with rice or soor (grits) to catch the heady sauce.

Another painstaking technique promulgated by some chefs is removing the germ in the center of each garlic clove before using. I have sometimes done this, carefully slicing the cloves in two and pulling out the center sprouts. But honestly I can’t taste any difference between germless garlic and germ-filled garlic, so I’ve stopped bothering. Maybe my palate isn’t terribly refined, but I’m fine with that if it saves me some work.

I have no idea whether Bryan Washington is a garlic de-germer, but he doesn’t mention it in his recipe for chilaquiles verdes , which uses a couple of cloves in the salsa. Bryan does recommend frying your own tortilla chips for the crunchiest, most flavorful result, and that sounds worth the time if you have it. But, he notes, good-quality store-bought chips work nicely, too. Once doused in salsa and queso fresco and topped with runny fried eggs, this beloved dish will shine either way.

More confessing: I don’t peel ginger before I grate it. I find that rubbing the cut side of the root against my microplane leaves most of the peel behind while turning the flesh into a quasi purée. If I absolutely need to peel my ginger, I use the tip of a teaspoon, which pulls the skin off more agilely than a vegetable peeler. However you prepare your ginger is all good in Café China’s dan dan noodles , which are more intense and robust than mouth-searingly spicy.

I guess I should tell you I also don’t peel asparagus stems, unless of course they’re thick and woody and really need it. For most asparagus, just snap off the stems where the stalk naturally bends and they’ll be ready for whatever recipe you’re hungry for, like Ali Slagle’s turmeric-black pepper chicken . This 15-minute, five-star recipe has more than 16,000 ratings, a testament to its ease and versatility. Serve it over rice or noodles for the speediest spring meal.

But I don’t cut corners when it comes to dessert, and it’s absolutely worth a bit of wiggly knife work to suprême the citrus in David Tanis’s citrus and coconut ambrosia . Suprême-ing citrus is actually pretty easy (David’s instructions walk you through it), and gives the juicy pieces of orange and grapefruit more surface area to absorb the orange liqueur. Serve it with shortbread or butter cookies, but skip the traditional marshmallows. This sophisticated version doesn’t need them.

Of course, you’ll want to subscribe to get all these amazing recipes (and thanks to you if you already do). If you need any technical assistance, you can send an email to [email protected] ; the smart folks there are sure to help. And I’m at [email protected] if you want to say hi.

Who says one-pot meals are only for winter? My one-pan orzo with spinach and feta is fresh and green, savory and easy, perfect for any weeknight as spring continues to unfurl. And it’s fuss-free — the spinach only needs the roughest of chops, and don’t worry about picking the dill, parsley or cilantro leaves (those small stems are tender and delicious).
