Sample Essay 3

There is a widespread belief that advanced technology is going to play the teachers’ role in the classroom. I completely agree with this statement because it makes the lessons more attractive and engaging. Also, a ubiquitous access to online platforms like Facebook, YouTube etc. have made the traditional face to face teaching an obsolete system. This essay is going to elucidate the idea in detail.

An unprecedented technological innovation has made students’ life easier because now they can explore their knowledge area by taking a virtual tour, which is designed to give them a detailed step by step illustration of a concept. Previously, students needed to dive deep into a book to get through a topic, and most of the time ended up with finding it too boring and giving up studying the details, whereas now they can explore their disciplines with just a tap on the specially designed educational applications on their smartphone, laptop, or other electronic display devices. This amazing facilitation is driving students towards artificial intelligence rather than depending on a face-to-face lesson.

In addition, artificial intelligence has come up with incredibly efficient platforms that are used for conveying educational contents anywhere across the world. Vibrant online resource sharing platforms such as YouTube, Dailymotion, Facebook and Twitter etc. have made the advanced education accessible to almost everyone. These platforms have such huge data bases that any information regarding any topic can easily be obtained. In conclusion, this essay reasserts that an efficient use of artificial intelligence for education has become obvious. Students are harnessing its incredible benefits through different platforms which are eventually taking over the traditional face to face teaching.

In the coming future artificial intelligence will be replacing teachers in school. I do not agree to this statement due to the need for emotional connection between a student and a teacher. A great alternative for face-to-face teaching is an online learning platform.

Emotional relationship between a teacher and a student is essential to a student’s well being. This is because with the use of artificial intelligence, the students will get replies that do not emotionally make sense. On the other hand, a conversation between a student and a teacher could be more emotionally understandable,since a teacher’s response would consider the feelings of the student. For example, a student is worrying about a bully in the school, with an artificial intelligent teacher, the reply to that issue is facts and data. However, a response from a teacher would assess the issue in a great and understanding manner.

Online learning platform is one method that could be used to substitute ordinary and classical ways of learning. As the world progresses, children are not always available to come to school and join the lessons. This is why online learning is such a great tool to increase the productivity and accessibility of education to special students. For example, a situation like COVID-19, where students and teachers are not able to meet physically. This is where the usage of online learning platforms enables the continuity of learning.

In conclusion, although the advancements in technology has enabled people to work more efficiently, artificial intelligence technology is not suitable in replacing a teacher’s job due to the lack of emotional connection between the students. In addition to that, the online learning platform is a breakthrough that allows students to learn without meeting face-to-face with their teachers.

The success ful in technological development has created a more complicated life for people and in order to solve this issue and it is thought [A1]  to live without the appearance of technology. In my opinion, I hold a balanced view in this issue. [A2]  

Living without technology could be the best solution to solve the complexity of our lives, especially for elderly or technophobes. The main reason is because in the present we are surrounded by technological devices, however, old people and those who do not want to adopt the great development of this will find it really hard to use, resulting in creating harder and more complex life for them. [A3]   It can easily be seen that people aged 60 or above and technophobes will prefer using physical keyboard phones such as Nokia 550 rather than using state-of-the-art and newest smartphones like iPhone X or Note 8. [A4]  

However, without the need of technology, our lives could be quite hard in many situations that required devices. The main reason because by using smart devices, it helps to reduce the number of tasks needed, instead, it now becomes the responsibility of technological devices, these jobs will be done by machines, hence, increasing people’s life quality. In the past, women spent hours for household tasks, such as sweeping the floors and cooking meals for the whole family, now, these tasks are given to floor-sweeping robots and automated cookers, meaning they will have more time for leisure and their beloved. [A5]  

In conclusion, although living a life without technology could be true to solve the complicated lives in today’s world, using automated machines will handle many tasks that in the past humans needed to involve in. [A6]

  [A2] Not a good idea to do this! It asks to the extent you agree/disagree – make it clear that you only partly agree!

  [A3] Way too vague! We already know this – describe how it is harder or more complex!

  [A4] This is confusing because this isn’t an argument about technology v no technology it is old v new technology so it is irrelevant….

  [A5] Good paragraph in general with a clear main idea and enough support. I’m not sure about the example though because people still do household chores and cook meals… Those tasks have become EASIER – that would be a better argument.

  [A6] There is no position in this essay! Just saying ‘I hold a balanced view’ is an automatic 5 for Task Achievement regardless of everything else…

IELTS Essay, topic: Computers instead of teachers

As computers are being used more and more in education, there will be soon no role for teachers in the classroom. Do you agree or disagree?

There is no doubt that education and the process of learning has changed since the introduction of computers. The search for information has become easier and more entertaining, and connectivity has expedited the availability of data. Though systems have made computers more intelligent, they have not yet become a substitute for the human interaction in the learning process. In my opinion, what can be expected is a change in the teachers’ role, but not their disappearance from the classroom.

Nobody can argue with the fact that the acquisition of knowledge is more fun and easier with computers. The mere activity of touching and exploring this device constitutes an enjoyable task for a child. This, accompanied by a relaxing attitude and interactivity of software, usually contributes to a better grasping of new knowledge. At a higher educational level the availability of digital books, simulators and other academic materials provides the student with an ever accessible source of information, that otherwise would not be at hand.

But, besides the increasing complexity and behavior of intelligent software, which is usually embedded in the academic digital material, the need for human interaction in the learning process will always be present, at least in the foreseeable future. There is the necessity for a human being to be able to determine what the needs of each individual are. The expertise of a teacher in how to explain and adapt complex concepts to different individuals can hardly be mimicked by a computer, no matter how sophisticated its software is.

As computers are becoming a common tool for teaching, teachers should be more aware of their role as guides in the acquisition of knowledge rather than transmitters of facts. They have to be receptive to the changes that are taking , keep updated and serve as problem solvers in the learning process, thus allowing students to discover the for themselves.

To summarize, in my personal view, teachers play and will continue to play an important role in the classroom, especially at the primary school level. No matter how capable computers become, there will be no replacement for human interaction, but in the interaction takes place.

This is an excellent essay! Are you a native English speaker? Well done. The only problem is that this essay is too long, 365 words instead of 250-265 maximum.

Is it wrong if I take four paragraphs to write essay with introduction, advantages, disadvantage and finishing with conclusion ?

No, four paragraphs are fine, you don’t have to have five.

I have attempted ielts multiple times I got my desired score in all modules with 8 in speaking 8.5 in listening 7 in reading but remained 6 or 6.5 in writing instead of 7 every time. I am trying very hard but don’t know where I lack. If I can get help would be appreciated. Thanks

Will technology replace teachers? No, but ...

We waived the policy for another reason as well. It is decidedly not politically correct to say so, but we also allowed this teacher into the class because he was ... old. He claimed to be over 70, but said he wasn't exactly sure of his exact birthdate, other than that it had occurred on a Friday . While my Ghanaian colleagues expressed some skepticism that this fellow was actually as old as he claimed, there was no doubt that he was decades older than any of us in the room. He was an English teacher, he said, noting that he had heard that it was possible to get access to all of Shakespeare's plays on the Internet, for free, and wanted to see how this was possible. A computer became available (the teachers using it had been frustrated that poor bandwidth kept interrupting their CU-SeeMe  session and so decided to return to the dormitory before dinner), so we sat down, fired up Alta Vista , and typed in >. After scanning the search results, one of the young teachers grabbed a mouse and pointed, clicked and scrolled her way through play after play after play. The older teacher was simply flabbergasted. He said something to the effect of, "Now I have seen everything. It has been my dream as an English teacher to be able to read all of Shakespeare's plays. Now all teachers will be able to do this. Education will change forever." We kept the computer lab open for a while so that he could be assured that all of them were indeed there ("There's Hamlet! The Tempest. Coriolanus!"); he promised that he would be the first one at the lab door once we opened the following morning. As we were shutting things down, he articulated a concern that I would hear voiced hundreds of times in the coming years, in many variations:

It would be very exciting for me to be a young teacher today now that the Internet is coming. But I am glad that I am not a young teacher, because I fear that these computers will eventually replace us teachers.

Will technology replace teachers?

Here's a short answer to that short question : Introducing new technologies will not replace teachers. Experience from around the world shows us that, over time, teachers' roles become more central -- and not peripheral -- as a result of the introduction of new technologies. Introducing new technologies will, however, replace some of the things that teachers do -- and require that teachers take on new, often times more sophisticated, duties and responsibilities. That said, teachers who don't use technology will be replaced by teachers who do. And : In places where there are currently *no* teachers, technology can help in some very useful ways to, in part , overcome this absence.

In my experience, introducing computers and the Internet into education systems for the first time almost always meets with resistance -- sometimes quite significant resistance -- from certain portions of the teacher population (and often from teachers' unions as well).

Such resistance is understandable, and perhaps to some extent even inevitable. Change can be scary -- or at least rather inconvenient.

Note that the type of resistance I am talking about here is of a very basic, initial, almost instinctive nature. It is not the resistance of teachers who, for example, have worked in a system where computers have already been introduced, with negligible or even negative effect, and who thus look on educational technology initiatives with a very skeptical, jaundiced eye. It is not the resistance of teachers who see the introduction of yet more technology as the lamentable enabler of more (and more! and more!) standardized testing. Nor am I talking about worries about wages ( Will we be paid more if we are expected to learn these new 'computer skills'? ) or changes in related expectations and job responsibilities ( Will we be expected to do or accomplish more, or something for which we have not been trained, now that we have these new gadgets? ).

No, I am talking about a more basic fear here, one that (potentially) challenges the primacy and traditional role of the teacher in the classroom and vis-a-vis her students:

My students will know much more about computers than I do. How can I not look stupid in front of them when I try to use them in my teaching?

And, more ominously:

Will I (eventually) be replaced by a machine?

It is important also to note that, while technology will not replace teachers, in places where there are currently no teachers, or where there are not sufficient numbers of capable teachers, technology can play a vital role in providing access to educational resources and opportunities for learners that are otherwise unattainable. This is not to contend that students will, if simply 'left to their own devices', be able to educate themselves to the same extent than if they had a capable teacher to help guide and support them. That said, UNESCO currently that "93 countries have an acute shortage of teachers", and projects that "28 (or 30%) of these countries will still not have enough teachers in classrooms by 2030". Using technologies in an attempt to help address *some* of the educational challenges in such places while education systems work on narrowing the teacher gap seems a prudent thing to explore.

That said :

In no education system around the world where I have worked has the introduction of new technologies made teachers less vital or central to the teaching and learning process. On the contrary : As dust settles after new equipment arrives in schools (and eventually begins to work, more or less), and the initial hype around the potential for quick 'transformational change' subsides, the role of the teacher is almost always more central, indeed fundamental, than it was before the introduction of technology .

While many policymakers, education officials and parents (and even many teachers themselves) may profess a belief in the 'digital native hypothesis' -- that young people somehow instinctively understand technology and know how to use it in ways that their elders don't -- there is a big difference between being able e.g. to quickly figure out and manipulate an on-screen menu system, or to blast a bunch of aliens, or to record a short video and post it to YouTube, and being able to successfully utilize whatever new technologies are at hand in service of a student's learning needs and objectives. For that, students need the help and guidance of their teachers.

This isn't to say that introducing new technologies will not change the roles that teachers are expected to perform, however.

While, generally speaking, introducing new technologies makes the jobs of teachers more important, more central to the learning process in many ways, it also makes teachers less central or integral (or even needed) to many of the activities currently associated with being a teacher in many parts of the world.

Books -- a technological innovation that helped transform educational practices in previous centuries  -- didn't replace teachers, but they did help enable new forms of autonomous learning, and replaced and changed the nature of some of the things that teachers traditionally did.

And, it might be added, the importance of the human connection between teacher and student.

In the current era, you can see people spending more time on smartphones rather than socializing. Some features of smartphones are just like the personal computer and they provide a high level of entertainment and can be carried along wherever we go. This essay helps others to understand how smartphone technology impacts society.

The main advantage of a smartphone is that it has made communication easier and quicker. Now you can speak to any of your friends or relatives, in any part of the world. Not only that, but they can also share personal messages, photos, videos through social media.

Along with the benefits, there are also some adverse effects of smartphone addiction on society. The children are not socially active. They sit inside four walls playing games on smartphones and have distanced themselves from society. Even, adults are busy chatting with their friends on social networking sites and have become socially inactive. Even get-togethers have become less. People like to chat on social media more than talking face to face. Even if there are get-togethers, people will be busy with their smartphones instead of interacting with each other. Parents nowadays are busy with smartphones and they fail to attend to their children. Hence the children will be left alone.

To conclude, we can say that smartphones along with its advantages, have also increased the social gap and kept us far from each other.

Technology is growing day by day. Many household works that were done manually earlier have been replaced by machines and can be completed automatically. This development has benefitted people a lot. This essay will explain how technology has helped people in different ways at home.

Man has invented many machines which can do most of the household work automatically such as; dishwasher, vacuum cleaner, the washing machine and so on. With the invention of these machines, women get a lot of leisure. And also this advancement has helped women in improving their standard of living. They will get more time to focus on their career.

Along with the advantages there are also some disadvantages that go with the situation. By the invention of different types of machinery, people are fully dependent on them. Previously, people used to do all the household work manually and stayed fit. But the advancement in technology has made people lazy. There is no physical involvement in household activities

To sum up, technology has made people more dependent on machines for household activities. Also, the advantage is that women can invest more time more on their careers and children rather than doing household chores.
