Science has been a blessing in many ways. We now lead a far more comfortable and luxurious life than our forefathers did.

Science has made our lives very comfortable. We live in bigger and better houses. We enjoy the benefits of electricity We can cool our houses with air conditioners and fans and we can keep them warm with central heating. Electricity helps us to light up our houses, cook our food, warm our water, and keep our food fresh. Science has given us electric lights, electric stoves, toasters, geysers and refrigerators. We are saved the trouble of going up and down stairs because we can use a lift. We can switch on the radio or the TV and entertain ourselves at home.

We lead a longer and healthier life because of science. In olden days several diseases proved fatal. Today a cure has been found for many fatal diseases and incurable diseases. So man now has a chance to lead a longer and healthier life than is olden days. Thanks to science we can go about speedily from place to place. Science has provided us with cars, buses, electric trains, steamships and jet planes. No one can say now that he is unable to move quickly from one place to another.

But there is also another side of the picture. Fast living has deprived man from peace of mind. He has to face noise all the time. He cannot rest peacefully in a calm atmosphere. Moving at speed does not allow man to enjoy the beauties of nature and of the countryside. Let us not forget that science has also invented the atom bomb and other nuclear weapons. These weapons are a constant threat to the peace and safety of mankind. Two destructive world wars have already been fought.

A third world war might break out at any time now subsequent to the horrendous terrorist attack on U.S.A. on the eleventh of September 2001. Thus science can cause destruction and be a curse to mankind. Another way in which it can be curse is by causing pollution. In industrial places the air is polluted with smoke from the factories. This pollution threatens the health of people who live in those places. Most of the major cities in the world are surrounded by many industrial units and have huge numbers of vehicles plying on their streets. The city dweller is thus exposed to a severe pollution threat and diseases caused by them. So we see that science can be both a blessing and a curse to mankind.

Introduction:  Impact of science on humanity is undeniable. On the face of it, science and its inventions appear to be an unalloyed blessing. However, if we ponder a little, disturbing signs too appear.

          How a blessings ? Effect on material well-being and mental attitudes; advantages of scientific discoveries in daily life- gadgets to remove drudgery, electricity, communication, transport, entertainment, computers; health-medicine, preventive and curative, control of disease and epidemic; industry, agriculture and economic development. As for mental attitude-scientific perspective banishes obscurantism and superstition; develops questioning spirit, objective outlook.

How a curse ? Each o f the blessings cited above has a dark side to it- a curse. Material well-being has led to crass materialism and consumer culture; discoveries of science have also produced weapons and means of destruction; use of scientific and technological means of production and comforts has degraded environment, caused pollution; new diseases resistant to drugs keep coming up; technological devices meant for health field misused to kill- foeticide, for instance; spirit of inquiry and positivism, if carried too far, can suppress essential humanity and actually restrict the free range of thought and imagination; gadgets and inventions can make man dependent and , in fact, kill his creativity.

          Conclusion : So, is science a blessing or a curse? It would do well to recall what Milton said in a different context- the mind is its own place, it can make a hell of heaven or a heaven of hell. Science is, in fact, amoral; what man makes of it is man’ s responsibility. Man can use it creatively or destructively, turn it into a blessing or get crushed under its curse.

The thirst for knowledge and to penetrate mysteries of nature gave rise to more and more of science. Today man occupies the highest position in the whole of the creation only because of his scientific achievements and developments. The impact of science can be felt in every walk of life and every human activity. It has transformed the entire world. With the help of science man has very well harnessed the forces of nature. He has conquered space, mastered the seven seas and yoked electricity to his service. The forces of nature, which were regarded as cruel, hostile and worshipped as such, are now at his humble service.

As a result of scientific developments, the distances have been reduced and the world has become more unified and cohesive.  Radio, television, telephone, teleprinters, aeroplanes, space-crafts, etc., have given us new and faster means of communication. They. have revolutionized the life of men. Man has landed on the moon and the day is not far when he would leave his foot-prints on other planets as well. His achievements in the field of medicine, surgery, education, industry, commerce, agriculture, etc., are no less spectacular. Man has conquered many diseases which were regarded as fatal in the past. He has controlled the rate of mortality, and average life-span has increased considerably. On the whole the standards of living have been improved a lot and life has become so convenient and comfortable. The positive side of science is too dazzling. But science is not an unmixed e joy or blessing. Its negative side is too disturbing. No doubt science has bestowed upon us so many wonderful gifts, has vastly widened our horizon of thinking and doing, yet it has created many very serious problems which defy solution.

The question is often asked whether science is a blessing or a curse. The question makes one pause and ponder a little. And in answer one finds that science has both created and annihilated. In one hand it holds bombs and deadly missiles, in the other there is a bouquet of prosperity and development. When one thinks on the question, one is reminded of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the two cities of Japan devastated by the bombs. One is reminded of the last Two World Wars and of the third looming large. The ecological and environmental problems bequeathed by scientific and industrial development make man sad and pensive. The neurotic fear of nuclear war has turned man’s life into a trauma. He cannot sleep well, nor can he rest in peace because of these and such other threats and problems. It is only the balance of power which is saving the world from an unprecedented disaster and havoc. But who knows when this balance may be upset by a false move. There is no limit to the destructive role being played by science. Now we have nuclear weapons which can destroy the entire earth many times over and in no time. The horrors of destruction are too many to be counted.

But is science really responsible for all these horrors and possible destruction? Can we attribute vicious motives to science? No, certainly we cannot. Science is a systematic knowledge of things. It is an instrument which can be used both for constructive and destructive purposes. The defect does not lie in the instrument itself, but in the user. It is man who is responsible for all the present ills and evils. The devil within is really to be blamed. It is our moral and ethical weakness which is to blame and not science. The scientists are generally good and humane. They want to serve the humanity at large. They are never willing to destroy anything. A scientist is basically a creator, but the politicians, the men and women at the helm of national affairs force them to make misuse of science. In modern times, a scientist is not an independent person. He has to work under the full control of a head of state and his men. In the ultimate analysis, it is the politician who is wholly responsible for such evils as caused by scientific developments.

Deprived of ethics and morals, science becomes a blind force. Science is fire, it is a great power. Now it can be used both for good and evil purposes. It is upto you whether you use it in generating nuclear power or a bomb. Science is neither good nor bad. It is a pure knowledge. If you misuse it, you are to blame, not the knowledge, but its users. Sans sanity, sans morals and good sense, knowledge is bound to be misused for destruction and for evil purposes. In order that science remains a blessing only, it is necessary that man never loses his balance of mind, that he uses’ science and knowledge only for the betterment of humanity. The rich and developed countries should pool their resources for the development and growth of the poor, and not for the creation and development of means of war and destruction. By itself knowledge is a boon, a blessing and bonanza. The evil is not in science but within man himself. Science, in its applied form, delves deep into the mysteries of nature and creation for the benefit of mankind. It harnesses the forces of nature to serve man faithfully like an obedient servant, but the devil in man, when let loose, turns science into a purse by generating weapons of horror and destruction. In fact, science is not responsible at all for any of our dehumanizing results. There is no know and visible limits to the creative activities and aspects of science. It is these that man should confine his knowledge to.

Science is one of the greatest blessings of our age. It is the forerunner of all comforts, progress and prosperity. It has provided us with electricity, machines, equipment’s and drugs. At one time, a long journey took a month to complete which now takes only a few hours. The development of fast and comfortable means of transport has overcome the fear of distance. Science has made travel road, easy and luxurious.

Roadways, railways, travel from one place to another in the shortest possible time over land, water and in the air. The discovery of electricity has revolutionized of electricity our life. Today we cannot imagine life without electricity. It is used to run many things like fans, radios, televisions, machines, etc. it has reduced the use of human power in many ways.

In the medical field, science has made tremendous progress. Discovery of x-rays, and the invention of anesthesia, have greatly facilitated of surgical operations are performed daily. Today we have a cure for those diseases, which were once believed to be incurable.

Its role in bringing a revolution in the field of education is also very great. With the invention of printing machines, books are now available for all. Braille has made it possible even for the blind to learn and the education to the learner even in remote areas.

Thus, considered from all angles, there can’t be two opinions that science is indeed, a great blessing for all of us but for it, we would still be living like our ancestors in the Stone Age.

Is Science is a Curse?

Quite often, even beneficial inventions of science cause death or destruction, making it took like a curse. Whenever there is fire owing to a short circuit, or a death on account of electrocution, we curse science and its great invention.

A patient may die because of an over-dose of medicine or a wrong diagnosis of disease. Then also we start blaming the advancement of science.

Likewise, for all sorts of pollution too, the blame is given to science. We say that it caused by factories and vehicles, which are coming up in large numbers owing to our too much dependence on science. Naturalist, therefore, argue that science has equipped us with enough means for self-destruction.

To top them all are the guns machine guns, tanks, bombs and all sorts of fighter planes. Their unhindered possession has resulted in world wars I and ii in addition to many territorial wars like Vietnam War and the Iran and Iraq war.

The devastation brought about by these unwise ventures is too great to describe. Today science threatens to bring about the extinction of human race. It has deprived all of us of human and moral values and has led us to materialism.

नमस्कार  दोस्तों आज हम विज्ञान वरदान या अभिशाप हिंदी निबंध इस विषय पर निबंध जानेंगे। आज का युग विज्ञान का युग है। विज्ञान समस्त संसाधनों का जन्मदाता है। विज्ञान ने सुख-स्मृद्धि को फैलाया है। मानव जीवन के प्रत्येक क्षेत्र में विज्ञान विद्यमान है। विज्ञान ने मानव को अदम्य शक्तिशाली बनाया है, जिसके कारण मानव प्रकृति पर आना आधिपत्य स्थापित कर चुका है। आज का युग विज्ञान के सन्मुख नतमस्तक है।

विज्ञान शब्द का अर्थ है विशेष ज्ञान। विज्ञान , ज्ञान की सुसम्बद्ध, क्रमबद्ध एवं विशिष्ट शाखा है। विज्ञान ने मनुष्य जीवन के लिए उपयोगी प्रत्येक सुविधा को उपलब्ध कराया है। सुबह उठने से लेकर रात को सोने तक और रात को सोने से लेकर सुबह उठने तक हम जिन वस्तुओं एवं सुविधाओं का प्रयोग करते हैं, वे सब विज्ञान की देन हैं। 

विज्ञान को हम कल्पवृक्ष, कामधेनु या अलादीन का जादुई चिराग भी कह सकते हैं, क्योंकि विज्ञान से मानव की सब कामनाएं पूर्ण होती हैं। विज्ञान का सीधा सम्बन्ध भौतिक जगत से है। विज्ञान ने भौतिक अभावों को दूर कर मानव जीवन को सुखमय बनाया है। विज्ञान ने मानव को बिजली का बल्ब, पंखा, हीटर, भोजन बनाने की गैस, फ्रिज आदि उपकरण दिए। मनोरंजन के लिए रेडियो, टेलीविजन, वीडियों, वी.सी.आर. सिनेमा आदि साधन विज्ञान की देन हैं। डाक, तार, टेलीफोन, फैक्स एवं ई-मेल जैसे संचार माध्यमों के कारण सारा विश्व जुड़ रहा है।

 रेल, हवाई-जहाज, जलयान आदि परिवहन साधनों ने राष्ट्रों की भौगोलिक दूरी को कम कर दिया है। विज्ञान की शक्ति पृथ्वी के गर्भ से जल खींच लाती है और मरुस्थल मरुद्यान में बदल जाते है। रासायनिक खाद के उपयोग से अन्न की कमी न रही। औषधियां मानव को दीर्घ-आयु बनाती है और अनेक रोगों से रक्षा करती हैं। चेचक, प्लेग जैसे रोग अब नियंत्रित हो सके हैं जिसका श्रेय विज्ञान को है। शल्य चिकित्सा ने इतनी उन्नति कर ली है कि हाथ-पांव की हड्डियां ही नहीं जोड़ी जातीं बल्कि हृदय और मस्तिष्क का प्रत्यारोपण की संभव है।

प्लास्टिक सर्जरी के द्वारा कुरूप मानव सुन्दर बन जाता है। स्त्रियों में बांझपन की समस्या दूर हो चुकी है। टैस्ट-ट्यूब बेबी उनके जीवन में रस घोल देता हैं। विज्ञान ने अंधों को आंखें, बहरों को कान और लंगड़ों को चलने की क्षमता प्रदान की है। विज्ञान की मदद से मानव चन्द्रमा पर पहुंचा, अंतरिक्ष में भ्रमण किया और पृथ्वी की परिक्रमा की। मानव द्वारा छोड़े गये कृत्रिम उपग्रह अन्तरिक्ष में स्थापित होकर अपनी सेवाएं दे रहे हैं। मानव ब्रह्मांड के रहस्यों को जानने का प्रयास कर रहा है। कम्प्यूटर हमारे जीवन का एक अंग बन चुका है।

विज्ञान ने मनुष्य को यह आत्म-विश्वास दिया है कि वह सृष्टि का सर्वश्रेष्ठ प्राणी है। विज्ञान की मदद से मानव आज निर्भय होकर पृथ्वी पर विचरण करता है। आंधी, तूफान, भूचाल और अन्य आपदाओं से लड़ने की शक्ति मानव के पास है। ऐसा इतिहास में पहली बार हुआ है कि बिना किसी देश को दास बनाए, बिना किसी जाति का शोषण किए आज का मानव अपने जीवन स्तर को ऊंचा उठाने में सफल हुआ है। विज्ञान ने मानव के चिन्तन को पूरी तरह से बदल दिया है। विज्ञान ने हमारे समाज के स्वरूप को बदल दिया है। नगरीकरण की प्रवृत्ति बढ़ी है और राज्य अधिक शक्तिशाली एवं बड़े हो गये हैं। आज का मानव जीवन का पूरा आनन्द उठा रहा है।

जब सत्रहवीं शताब्दी में विशुद्ध विज्ञान के विकास से औद्योगिक क्रान्ति आई, इसका स्वागत यूरोप में हुआ। इस क्रान्ति के कारण कितने ही परिवार टूटे और कितनों को शोषण हुआ। औद्योगीकरण ने यूरोपीय राष्ट्रों को व्यापारिक होड़ में लगाया, औपनिवेशवाद का जन्म हुआ और अन्त में विश्वयुद्धों की मार खिलाई। विज्ञान के विकास ने अनेक नई विचारधाराओं को जन्म दिया, जिनके आधार पर गुटबंदियां होने लगी।

विज्ञान की खोजों के परिणामस्वरूप परमाणु शक्ति का अन्वेषण अपने आप में एक महत्वपूर्ण घटना थी जिसका रचनात्मक उपयोग हमारी सभ्यता को नये उच्च मापदंड दे सकता था, परन्तु हिरोशिमा और नागाशाकी की हृदयविदारक घटना ने विज्ञान का डरावना और घातक दृश्य प्रस्तुत किया। आज मानव ने उच्च कोटि के परमाणु शस्त्र, मिसाइलें, रासायनिक बम आदि तैयार कर लिए हैं। यह अनुमान गलत नहीं है कि यदि तीसरा विश्व युद्ध हुआ और इस युद्ध में इन शस्त्रों का प्रयोग हुआ तो पूरी पृथ्वी मानवताविहीन ही नहीं, प्राणियों एवं वनस्पतियों से भी विहीन हो सकती है।

विज्ञान ने जिस तीव्रता से समस्याएं सुलझाईं, उससे कहीं ज्यादा तेजी से हमारे लिए समस्याएं पैदा की है। परिवहन तेजी से बढ़ा और सड़क-दुर्घटनाएं भी बढ़ीं। जहां उद्योग-धंधे विकसित हुए, वहीं भोपाल गैस कांड जैसी घटनाएं भी होती हैं। अनेक रोगों का उपचार मिला और एड्स जैसी घातक बीमारियां भी उत्पन्न हुईं। पर्यावरण की रक्षा के साधन दिये हैं, परन्तु पर्यावरण को दूषित भी किया है।

निष्कर्षत: कहा जा सकता है विज्ञान न तो वरदान है और न अभिशाप। विज्ञान तो निरपेक्ष ज्ञान मात्र है जिसका प्रयोग मानव के विवेक पर आश्रित है। विज्ञान वह शक्ति है, जिसका बहुत सोच समझकर प्रयोग होना चाहिए , दोस्तों ये निबंध आपको कैसा लगा ये कमेंट करके जरूर बताइए ।

उसने सारी पृथ्वी पर अधिकार जमा लिया है और अब वह अंतरिक्ष पर भी अधिकार जमाने का अभियान चला रहा है। विज्ञान की मदद से मनुष्य ने भयंकर शस्त्रास्त्रों का भी निर्माण किया है। उनके कारण मानव-जाति के अस्तित्व के लिए खतरा पैदा हो गया है।

वैज्ञानिक आविष्कारों के घोर दुरुपयोग से पृथ्वी पर भयानक प्रदूषण फैल गया है। इससे प्रकृति का संतुलन समाप्त हो रहा है और मानव-जाति विनाश के कगार पर पहुँच गई है। इसीलिए बार-बार प्रश्न उठता है-विज्ञान वरदान है या अभिशाप?

विज्ञान की सबसे महत्त्वपूर्ण देन बिजली है। इसने मानव-जीवन को समृद्धि के प्रकाश से जगमगा दिया है। बिजली के उपकरणों ने गृहिणी के काम का बोझ काफी हलका कर दिया है। 

अब उसे जीवन के अन्य कार्यों के लिए अवकाश मिलने लगा है। चिकित्सा के क्षेत्र में बिजली के उपकरणों ने क्रांति ला दी है। कृषि के क्षेत्र में भी बिजली की सहायता काफी लाभदायक सिद्ध हुई है और रेगिस्तानी क्षेत्र भी फसलों से लहलहाते क्षेत्रों में बदल गए हैं। बिजली की मदद से उद्योग-धंधों का भी बहुत विस्तार हुआ है।

स्वास्थ्य और चिकित्सा के क्षेत्र में वैज्ञानिक आविष्कारों ने महत्त्वपूर्ण योगदान दिया है। विज्ञान की सहायता से अनेक प्रकार की जीवनदायिनी औषधियों का आविष्कार हुआ है। अनेक संक्रामक बीमारियों पर काबू पा लिया गया है।

 अब 'क्ष' किरणों, सोनोग्राफी आदि वैज्ञानिक साधनों द्वारा मनुष्य के शरीर की भीतरी बीमारियों का पता लगाया जा सकता है।

मानव-शरीर के विभिन्न अंगों का सफलतापूर्वक प्रत्यारोपण किया जाता है। प्लास्टिक सर्जरी द्वारा बदसूरत नर-नारियों के चेहरे सुंदर बना दिए जाते हैं। विज्ञान की मदद से मानव शरीर के कृत्रिम अंग भी बनाए जाने लगे हैं। मनुष्य की औसत आयु लगातार बढ़ती जा रही है। इतना ही नहीं अब प्राणियों के प्रतिरूप (क्लोन) भी तैयार किए जाने लगे हैं।

कृषि के क्षेत्र में वैज्ञानिक आविष्कारों की मदद से 'हरित क्रांति' हुई है। रेगिस्तानों को उपजाऊ कृषि-क्षेत्रों में बदल दिया गया है। शिक्षा एवं मनोरंजन के क्षेत्र में रेडियो, चलचित्र, दूरदर्शन, वीडियो, जीरोक्स, फैक्स मशीनों आदि ने क्रांतिकारी परिवर्तन ला दिया है।

संगणक द्वारा कुछ ही पलों में जटिल से जटिल समस्या हल की जा सकती है। इंटरनेट के माध्यम से संसार के किसी भी कोने में बैठे विशेषज्ञों से संपर्क कर शंकाओं के समाधान प्राप्त किए जा सकते हैं।

संवाद-प्रेषण के क्षेत्र में टेलीफोन, मोबाइल फोन, बेतार के तार आदि ने महान योगदान दिया है। समाचार पत्रों ने दुनिया के देशों को एक-दूसरे के समीप ला दिया है। रेलगाड़ियों, मोटरों आदि ने दूर-दूर के स्थानों की यात्रा आसान बना दी है।

बड़े-बड़े जलयान सागरों की छाती चीरते हुए महाद्वीपों की परिक्रमा करते रहते हैं। पनडुब्बियों की मदद से सागरों-महासागरों के तल से मूल्यवान खनिज निकाले जा रहे हैं। वायुयानों ने असीमित आकाश को सीमित बना दिया है।

मनुष्य द्वारा निर्मित उपग्रह तथा अंतरिक्षयान चंद्रमा पर उतर चुके हैं। उनकी मदद से वायुमंडल की गतिविधियों का अध्ययन कर मौसम की जानकारी प्राप्त की जाती है। अणुशक्ति की खोज ने तो मनुष्य के हाथों में शक्ति का । असीम भंडार ही सौंप दिया है। 

सचमुच विज्ञान मानवता के लिए वरदान है। उसने मनुष्य के अंधविश्वासों को दूर कर उसे वैज्ञानिक दृष्टि दी है।

कितु विज्ञान की मदद से मनुष्य ने अत्यंत भयानक शस्त्रास्त्रों का भी आविष्कार किया है। उसने अणुबम, हाइड्रोजन बम, कोबाल्ट बम, न्यूट्रॉन बम आदि का विशाल भंडार इकट्ठा कर लिया है। 

अनेक प्रकार की जहरीली गैसों का भंडार उसके पास है। शत्रु के विनाश के लिए कीटाणु शस्त्र भी तैयार कर लिये गए हैं। आणविक शस्त्रास्त्रों के परीक्षण के फलस्वरूप वायुमंडल में रेडियो सक्रियता बढ़ती जा रही है। 

उद्योग-धंधों की अनियंत्रित वृद्धि के कारण पर्यावरण प्रदूषण अपनी चरम सीमा पर पहुँच गया है। इस प्रकार, विज्ञान के कारण संपूर्ण मानव-जाति के अस्तित्व के लिए खतरा उत्पन्न हो गया है।

वास्तव में विज्ञान मानवता के लिए वरदान स्वरूप ही है। यदि मनुष्य अपने कुटिल स्वार्थ के लिए वैज्ञानिक आविष्कारों का दुरुपयोग न करे, तो विज्ञान की सहायता से हम इस दुनिया को स्वर्ग बना सकते हैं। वास्तव में स्वार्थी राजनीतिज्ञों और कुटिल नेताओं ने अपनी सत्ता बनाए रखने के उद्देश्य से वैज्ञानिकों को अपने हाथ का खिलौना बना लिया है और मानवता के लिए वरदान स्वरूप विज्ञान को मानवजाति के लिए अभिशाप बना दिया है।दोस्तों ये निबंध आपको कैसा लगा ये कमेंट करके जरूर बताइए ।
