How to Make Resume on iPhone: A Step-by-Step Guide

Creating a resume on your iPhone is a breeze with the right tools and apps. You can choose from various templates, customize your information, and share your resume with potential employers, all from the palm of your hand. Let’s dive into how you can make a standout resume using your iPhone.

Step by Step Tutorial on How to Make Resume on iPhone

Before we begin, remember that a well-crafted resume can set you apart in the job market. Follow these steps to ensure your resume is professional and ready to impress.

Step 1: Choose a Resume Builder App

Download a reputable resume builder app from the App Store.

There are many resume builder apps available, so look for one with high ratings and good reviews. Some popular options include LinkedIn, Resume Star, and PathSource Resume.

Step 2: Select a Template

Choose a template that suits your industry and personal style.

A good template will have a clean, easy-to-read layout. Think about the impression you want to make on a hiring manager and select a template that reflects that.

Step 3: Fill in Your Information

Input your personal details, work experience, education, and skills.

Be honest and clear about your experience. Use bullet points and action verbs to describe your previous job duties and achievements.

Step 4: Customize Your Resume

Adjust the font, color scheme, and other elements to personalize your resume.

Your resume should reflect your personality but remain professional. Stick to traditional fonts like Arial or Times New Roman and use color sparingly.

Step 5: Review and Edit

Proofread your resume for any typos or errors.

Ask a friend or family member to review your resume as well. A second set of eyes can catch mistakes you might have missed.

Step 6: Save and Share

Save your resume to your iPhone and share it directly with employers or through job application platforms.

Most resume builder apps will allow you to save your resume as a PDF or a Word document. Always choose PDF to ensure the formatting stays intact when opened by the employer.

After completing these steps, you’ll have a professional resume ready to help you land your dream job. The convenience of creating and sending your resume directly from your iPhone makes the job application process easier than ever.

Tips for Making Resume on iPhone

  • Keep your resume to one page if possible, especially if you’re early in your career.
  • Use keywords from job descriptions to make your resume more attractive to applicant tracking systems.

Follow these steps to write a successful Apple resume:

1. Make Your Apple Resume Sleek

Apple specialists are professionals across various roles, offering their expertise to Apple customers. The purpose of an Apple resume is to show that you possess the necessary technical knowledge and soft skills to maintain the exceptional standards of Apple products and services.

Every piece of Apple tech is smooth and minimalist, and every detail serves a purpose. If you want to improve your chances of getting the desired job, you should approach writing your Apple resume the same way. It should look great, read great, and every line should be there for a reason. It starts with the formatting.

Map out your Apple resume according to these guidelines:

  • Create a resume outline , i.e., determine which resume sections to include (more on that below).
  • Decide on the order of your resume sections, which would depend on the type of resume format (the reverse-chronological format is usually the way to go).
  • Write a resume header containing your contact information .
  • Pick a professional resume font , set 1–1.5 line spacing, and even 1-inch margins on all sides.
  • Consider choosing an Apple Pages resume template , but don’t feel obliged to do so.

Pro Tip: Adding links to social media accounts? Don’t forget to check your online presence . You don’t want a prank from 10 years ago to cost you a job opportunity!

2. Stun With Your Resume Summary (Or Objective)

When you open a box with an Apple product, you know instantly it’s exceptional. This is what puts Apple ahead. The opening statement of your Apple resume should produce the same effect: say it all, make an impression—and fast (imagine it’s an elevator pitch .)

To show recruiters that you have relevant experience and prove you’re a great candidate, write a resume summary :

  • Brainstorm a list of your strongest skills and impressive measurable achievements .
  • See which ones match the job description, and craft a brief paragraph based on your findings.

For an entry-level resume , compose a persuasive resume objective :

  • Focus on transferable skills and qualifications.
  • Explain your motivations and why you’re willing to join this particular team.

3. Customize the Job Description

As you move on to the contents of your Apple specialist resume, you need to remember that relevant experience is your way to getting that interview.

Follow these instructions to get the work experience section of your Apple resume right:

  • Analyze the position details and single out resume keywords to meet employer expectations.
  • Start with your most recent position, including the job title , name of the company, and the period when you worked there.
  • Include 3–6 bullet points describing the quantifiable results of your work—make them even more compelling by using action verbs and power words .
  • Double-check that your resume is tailored to the job as much as possible.

4. Shine a Light(ning) on Your Education

Hey, Siri! Do I need to add education to my resume for an Apple job? The answer is yes! Even if you’re applying for a retail position (which usually doesn’t require a degree), it's definitely desirable for a tech giant like Apple. It’ll give you an advantage over other candidates.

Here’s how you describe your studies properly, depending on your experience:

  • Have some jobs under your belt? Add the name of your degree, institution (+location), and the years you spent in school.
  • New to the job market? Make sure you add a bullet point or two about your academic wins.

When making a resume in our builder, drag & drop bullet points, skills, and auto-fill the boring stuff. Spell check? Check . Start building a professional resume template here for free .

5. Show the Right Apple Skills on Your Resume

Utilize the Skills section of your resume to the max, or it goes straight into Low Power mode.

To list skills on your Apple specialist resume, follow these steps:

  • Create a master list of your prominent hard and soft skills . That should include the technical skills required for your job, plus the equally critical interpersonal skills .
  • Look at your Work experience and Education sections carefully to see which skills can truly reinforce what’s in there.
  • Done? See if what you’ve listed makes sense for the job description.

Here’s what skills could look like for one of the typical Apple resume examples:

Apple Resume Skills

  • Strong people skills

6. Consider Adding Other Sections

Don’t let the recruiter go into airplane mode just yet—cement your success with extra information on your resume .

Here are some great ideas for additional sections on an Apple resume:

  • Certifications or licenses needed for exceptional performance.
  • Ongoing education , statements of course completion.
  • Volunteer work .
  • Relevant hobbies and interests .

Pro Tip: Additional sections work great for language skills , which are crucial both in a client-facing role and a diverse team. If you look at many Apple job ads, you’ll see “Multilingual ability is a plus,” so seize that opportunity to distinguish yourself.

7. Write a Cover Letter

Think you don’t need a cover letter? Jailbreak at your own risk. According to surveys , over 80% of recruiters believe a cover letter (if done correctly) will significantly increase your chances. It should explain to the hiring side why your qualifications will ultimately benefit them, thus making you someone they’ll invite for an interview.

Make sure your Apple resume is accompanied by a cover letter that follows these rules:

  • How to format a cover letter : use a good font, left-align, and create a proper header.
  • How long should a cover letter be : under 1 page, 3–6 brief paragraphs.
  • How to start your cover letter : with a powerful intro that grabs the recruiter’s attention.
  • How to end your cover letter : with a call to action and proper sign-off.

Choosing the Right Resume App for Your iPhone

Creating an Efficient Layout for Your Resume on your iPhone

When it comes to creating an efficient layout for your resume on your iPhone, there are a few key things to keep in mind. First and foremost, you want to make sure that your resume is easy to read and navigate. This means organizing your information in a clear and concise manner, using headings and subheadings to break up the content, and utilizing bullet points to highlight your achievements.

One of the best ways to create an efficient layout for your resume on your iPhone is by using a template or pre-designed format. There are many apps available that offer ready-made resume templates specifically designed for mobile devices. These templates often have built-in sections for different parts of your resume such as contact information, work experience, education, skills, and references. By using these templates as a starting point, you can easily customize them with your own information while ensuring that the overall layout remains clean and professional.

In addition to using a template or pre-designed format, another important aspect of creating an efficient layout for your resume on your iPhone is choosing the right font size and style. You want to select a font that is clear and legible even on smaller screens. Avoid using overly decorative or hard-to-read fonts as they can distract from the content of your resume.

Lastly, don’t forget about visual elements such as spacing and alignment. It’s important to leave enough white space between sections so that each piece of information stands out independently. Additionally, aligning text properly will give it a polished look and make it easier for hiring managers or recruiters who may be reviewing resumes on their iPhones.

By following these tips – organizing information effectively with headings/subheadings/bullet points/formatting/alignment/choosing appropriate font size/style/templates -, you can create an efficient layout for their resumes on iPhones without compromising readability or professionalism.

Polishing and Saving Your Resume Using iPhone Features

So you’re on the hunt for a new job, and you’ve finally finished crafting your resume. But wait, before you hit that send button and unleash it into the world, have you considered polishing it up using your trusty iPhone? That’s right folks, our beloved pocket-sized device isn’t just for sending emojis and scrolling through social media feeds – it can also be a powerful tool to make your resume shine!

First things first, let’s talk about formatting. Remember how important first impressions are? Well, the same goes for resumes. With the help of your iPhone’s Notes app or any other word processing application available in the App Store (there are plenty of great ones out there), you can easily create a clean and professional-looking document. Use bold tags to emphasize key sections like “Work Experience” or “Skills,” ensuring that potential employers can quickly see what sets you apart from other candidates.

Now that we’ve tackled formatting let’s move on to another crucial aspect: spelling and grammar. We all know how embarrassing those pesky typos can be – they can instantly turn off hiring managers who are looking for attention to detail! Fear not though because with built-in features like autocorrect and spell check on your iPhone keyboard, spotting those sneaky errors has never been easier. Take advantage of them by proofreading your resume meticulously before hitting submit.

Lastly but certainly not least is adding some flair to make yourself really stand out! Grabbing someone’s attention amongst a pile of resumes is no easy feat these days. But fret not dear job-seeker because thanks to modern technology, there are various ways to inject creativity into this fairly standardized document.

Consider using bullet lists in HTML format within appropriate sections such as Education or Achievements – these will break up long blocks of text while still conveying information effectively. And hey, why stop at words when multimedia elements like hyperlinks could be utilized too? If relevant, include clickable links to your online portfolio or LinkedIn profile. It adds that extra touch of professionalism and shows potential employers you are tech-savvy.

So there you have it – a brief guide on how to polish and save your resume using the fantastic features of your iPhone. With its formatting capabilities, spelling and grammar checks, as well as opportunities for creativity, this little device can truly make a difference in helping you land that dream job. Now go ahead, put those fingertips to work and let your resume shine!

How to Use the iPhone to Create and Edit Your Resume

Unlocking the power of your iphone for resume crafting.

In today’s fast-paced world, having a polished resume ready to go at a moment’s notice can be the key to unlocking your next career opportunity. With the iPhone’s advanced capabilities, you’re carrying a powerful tool in your pocket that can help you create, edit, and share your resume on the fly. This article will guide you through the process of using your iPhone to craft a professional-looking resume that stands out from the crowd.

Getting Started with Resume Building Apps

Before diving into the specifics, it’s important to choose the right app for your resume-building needs. The App Store offers a variety of options, from dedicated resume builders to versatile document editors. Here are some popular choices:

  • Microsoft Word : A familiar and powerful word processor that’s great for resume creation.
  • Pages : Apple’s own word processor that’s optimized for iOS devices.
  • Resume Star : A dedicated app that guides you through the process of creating a resume.
  • LinkedIn : Allows you to convert your LinkedIn profile into a resume format.

Once you’ve selected an app, download it from the App Store and familiarize yourself with its interface and features. Most apps will offer templates and guides to help you get started.

Choosing the Right Template

Templates are a great starting point for creating a professional resume. They provide a structure that you can easily customize with your own information. When selecting a template, consider the following:

  • The job or industry you’re applying for: Different fields may require different resume styles.
  • Design and layout: Look for a clean, readable design that makes good use of white space.
  • Customization options: Ensure the template allows you to adjust sections and formatting as needed.

Experiment with a few templates to see which one best suits your personal style and professional brand.

Inputting Your Information

With a template in place, it’s time to fill in your details. Here’s how to approach each section of your resume:

Personal Information

Start with your name, contact information, and a professional email address. Make sure this information is prominently displayed at the top of your resume.

Objective or Summary Statement

Craft a brief statement that highlights your career goals and what you bring to the table. Tailor this to each job application for maximum impact.

Work Experience

List your previous roles in reverse chronological order. Include your job title, the company name, dates of employment, and bullet points detailing your responsibilities and achievements.

Include your highest level of education, along with any relevant certifications or training. If you’re a recent graduate, you may want to place this section before your work experience.

Highlight both hard and soft skills that are relevant to the job you’re applying for. Be specific and include any technical proficiencies or languages you speak.

Additional Sections

Depending on your background, you may want to include sections for awards, publications, volunteer work, or projects. Only add sections that add value to your resume and relate to the job.

Editing and Formatting Your Resume

Once your information is in place, it’s time to fine-tune your resume. Pay attention to the following:

  • Consistency : Ensure that your formatting is consistent throughout the document. This includes font sizes, headings, and bullet points.
  • Spacing : Use white space effectively to make your resume easy to read.
  • Keywords : Incorporate keywords from the job description to make your resume more ATS-friendly.

Remember to proofread your resume carefully. Spelling and grammar mistakes can be a red flag for potential employers.

Using Advanced Editing Features

To make your resume stand out, consider using advanced editing features such as:

  • Tables : For organizing information neatly (e.g., a table for technical skills).
  • Charts : To visually represent data or achievements (e.g., sales growth).
  • Images : If relevant, such as a professional headshot or company logos.

However, use these features sparingly and only when they add real value to your resume.

Exporting and Sharing Your Resume

When your resume is ready, you’ll want to export it in a format that’s widely accepted and easy to share. PDF is typically the best choice, as it preserves your formatting and is readable on any device. Most resume-building apps on the iPhone will have an option to export or share your document as a PDF.

To share your resume, you can use email, messaging apps, or even upload it directly to job portals or networking sites like LinkedIn.

Keeping Your Resume Updated

Your resume should be a living document that you update regularly. With your iPhone, you can easily make quick edits whenever you gain new experience, skills, or certifications. This ensures that you’re always ready to seize new opportunities as they arise.

FAQ Section

Can i create a resume directly on my iphone without an app.

While it’s possible to create a basic resume using the Notes app or a similar text editor, using a dedicated app or word processor will give you access to more advanced features and better formatting options.

Is it necessary to include a photo on my resume?

Including a photo on your resume is not a requirement and can be a matter of personal preference. In some countries, it’s common practice, while in others, it’s discouraged due to anti-discrimination laws.

How can I ensure my resume is ATS-friendly?

To make your resume Applicant Tracking System (ATS) friendly, use a simple format, avoid headers and footers, include relevant keywords from the job description, and save your resume as a Word document or PDF.

What’s the best way to tailor my resume for different job applications?

Customize your objective or summary statement, highlight the most relevant experience and skills, and use keywords specific to each job description. This shows employers that you’ve put thought into how you’re a good fit for the role.

Your iPhone is more than just a communication device; it’s a powerful tool for managing your professional life. By leveraging the right apps and features, you can create, edit, and share a standout resume that captures the attention of potential employers. With the convenience of updating your resume on-the-go, you’ll be ready to apply for that dream job anytime, anywhere.

How To Make Resume On iPhone

How To Make Resume On iPhone

Writing a resume can be a science as well as an art form. It takes a person to utilize specific tools to create content for securing a job. In this day and age, the internet has taken over many primitive forms of data processing and handling and a resume is not an exception.

LinkedIn and online portfolios are rampant in applying for gigs and jobs and connecting with recruiters. It is fairly easy to send and handle for both applicants and hiring managers. Still, with the ease and dynamic nature of modern modes of applications, the old-fashioned resume is not just out yet.

For writing a resume, it takes compatible hardware and software – in the forms of a laptop, PC, tablet, or a smartphone and a word processing tool to write and format a resume.

In this article, we will go through;

  • What is a resume
  • Tips on how to compose an impressive resume
  • iPhone apps to build a resume

What Is A Resume?

In simple terms, a resume is a formal document that applicants use to apply for a job . It highlights relevant academic qualifications, experience, skills, and any other detail that could help recruiters in picking a candidate over others for a role.

In most cases, it is coupled with a cover letter that can shed light on the elements that were mentioned in the resume but detailed in the cover letter.

The rationale behind turning in a resume is to provide a summary of professional life to employers so that they can make a better decision in hiring the right candidate for the job.

Following are some of the essential elements of a resume:

  • Contact Details
  • Introduction
  • Academic Qualifications
  • Work History
  • Relevant Skills
  • Accolades & Accomplishments
  • References & Endorsements

Types of Resumes

A resume is not something true across all individuals working across all formats. Cases and needs are depending on the job description and role expectations concerning the abilities of a candidate. That’s why there is more than one type of resume. In this section, we will take a look at the four most common types of resumes .

Chronological Resume

This is one of the most common types of resumes used by professionals. It starts with an introduction and then chalks out relevant academic qualifications or work experience in descending order ( the most relevant will go at the top).

This type of resume is versatile and offers a smart way to house maximum information in a small space.

Functional Resume

Contrary to chronological resumes, functional resumes revolve around the special skills and abilities of candidates in a way that their work experience becomes almost irrelevant.

In these resumes, aspirants often cover for job gaps or career changes because previous experience often becomes obsolete in this regard.

  • The introduction and skills section in functional resumes are more detailed than in other resume types
  • The work experience or practical experience section does not capture the spotlight

Targeted Resume

Targeted resumes – as the name suggests – are composed and optimized around specific positions in organizations. While it is always ideal for aspirants to tailor their resumes around a specific job , they often suffice in terms of focus and content for a large category of jobs.

Like functional resumes, targeted resumes also highlight specific abilities and skills of candidates and make sure that they are noticed by hiring managers based on their virtues.

Combination Resume

It is not a specific type of resume per se, because any combination of the three above-mentioned resumes will yield a combination resume. So, whether you want to highlight skills or in chronological order, it is best to have a go at a combination resume.

Pro Tips For Writing A Winning Resume

After going through the nature of a resume, it is best to go for a resume that combines all the best practices and then some of the winning sides and manifest them to get callbacks.

In this spirit, the following are some practical tips to write a resume:

  • It takes around half a minute for an employer to scan through a resume, so it should be concise and clear
  • Proofreading and editing are a must to iron out kinks and issues from a resume
  • Fine-tuning your resume to meet the job requirements of a special position can improve the odds of an interview call
  • Highlighting the virtues and mere mentioning the shortcomings, if any, can put you in the A-game
  • Quantifying achievements instead of describing them allows the recruiters to visualize the potential in a much better and more potent way

I feel like I started using Kickresume early on, as some functionality was still being polished, but in the short time since then, this has become a very smooth and helpful experience for creating great resumes. Having variety in styles is nice and sort of needed, but the ease of adding different types of sections to a résumé, updating that information, and organizing that information has gotten to be a very smooth experience. Kick résumé has personally helped me to iterate through variations on my own résumé to have various options fitting the different areas I wish to expand upon.

So frustrating

Don’t buy this app ** You can’t even edit the templates once you use them, so if you can’t fit everything on one page using the format, then you just have to keep it and they don’t let you create your own version to use instead either. AS WELL, after I spent two hours tweaking it just enough for it to fit on one page with the set format- It REVERTED EVERYTHING back to the original template. So I wouldn’t waste your time like I did.

Developer Response ,

We appreciate your valuable feedback on Kickresume. Although it's true that resume builders like Canva provide extensive customization choices, utilizing those options can be time-consuming. Kickresume's primary focus is on the content of your resume while offering a range of pre-designed templates. However, it's worth noting that we still provide over 1 million design combinations for you to choose from. We are sorry that Kickresume did not meet your expectations. Please contact our customer support, and they will refund your payment.

Not worth it.

Avoid purchasing this resume writer at all costs. It's an aggravating experience to use, as it lacks the ability to easily edit your resume outside of the app. Don't be fooled by claims of it being genuine AI; it's nothing more than basic scripts. The templates provided are a complete nightmare, inundating your resume with unnecessary graphics that result in multiple pages. The skills section is particularly infuriating, with its pointless graphs and absurd star ratings, which inevitably push your resume onto a second page. Unfortunately, these undesirable features cannot be removed. I've wasted countless hours attempting to work around their graphical template, only to reluctantly settle for a two-page resume. Spare yourself the frustration and look elsewhere for a more effective solution.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We're sorry to hear that Kickresume did not meet your expectations. Our resume builder offers more than 1M+ design combinations. We also have resume templates without graphics, which are great for academic or executive resumes. While our AI is not perfect, it has already helped hundreds of thousands of people write amazing resumes or cover letters. We are improving it every day, so it will get better over time.

How To Edit Your Resume On iPhone

Editing a resume on your iPhone can be a great way to quickly make changes and updates to your resume from anywhere. Whether you’re in the middle of an interview or just want to update some information, it’s now possible to edit your resume directly on your phone.

First, you’ll need a few apps that will allow you to edit a resume on an iPhone. You can use apps like Resume Builder, Adobe Acrobat, and PDF Expert. With these apps, you can create a professional-looking resume with ease.

Once the app is installed, open it and upload your existing resume document into the app. From here, you can make changes such as formatting the text or adding images. Resume Builder allows you to easily customize the template for your resume so it looks exactly how you want it. Adobe Acrobat also allows for easy editing of PDF files and includes features like sticky notes and annotation tools for marking up text.

When making changes directly on an iPhone, there are some limitations such as not being able to add new sections or change the layout of the page too much. However, these apps are still useful for making small adjustments quickly without having to open up a laptop or computer.

If you’re looking to make larger changes such as creating new sections or changing fonts, then using a program like Microsoft Word is probably best. This way you can have more control over what goes into the document and where everything is placed on the page. Once finished, just save it as a PDF file so that it can be uploaded into the iPhone apps for further editing if necessary.

Editing resumes on an iPhone has never been easier thanks to modern smartphone technology and helpful apps like Resume Builder and Adobe Acrobat Reader. So get ready to update your resume from anywhere with just a few taps!

Once you have that, open the Pages app and select the ‘Open’ option from the menu bar at the bottom of the screen. From here, you’ll be able to select a file type (e.g. Word document) and choose either an existing resume file or create a new one. Once you’ve chosen a file type and opened/created it, you can add/edit/delete the information as needed to update your resume. When finished, click ‘Share’ in the top right corner of the page and save it to your desired destination (e.g. iCloud).

Saving and Editing a PDF on an iPhone

To save a PDF on your iPhone and edit it, you will need to first open the PDF in a compatible app. For example, if you are using the Files app, tap the PDF to open it. Once opened, tap the Share button at the bottom of the screen and then select an app from the list of options that supports editing. Popular options include Adobe Acrobat Reader and Apple Pages. When prompted, save a copy of the PDF to your device. You can now locate your PDF on your iPhone and make any desired edits.

Then, tap the Share button at the bottom of the screen and scroll across the icons until you find and select Print. This will open up a preview of your document, which is actually a PDF. You can also pinch to zoom in and view it full-screen. Once you’re happy with how it looks, simply save it to your Files app or share it with someone else via email or text message.

In conclusion, editing a resume on an iPhone is a great way to stay organized and up-to-date with your job search. With the right tools, you can easily edit your resume from the convenience of your pocket. Whether you use apps like Resume Builder or Adobe Acrobat to edit documents in PDF format or use Word or Google Docs to make quick edits, you’ll be able to quickly update your resume as needed. With these tips and tricks, you can take control of your career path from anywhere.

How to upload your resume to a job application using your iPhone

jada-jones

Applying for jobs can be a long, strenuous, and stressful task. Sometimes, it takes weeks to months and tens to hundreds of applications before you find a job that fits your schedule, salary, and location preferences.

So, while you're on the job hunt, it's important to apply whenever and wherever you can. But if you don't have consistent access to a computer, putting in job applications can be even more daunting.

Also: How to use ChatGPT to write a cover letter (and why you should)

But if you have an iPhone , you can upload your resume, cover letter, and portfolio to the application from your phone. Here's how.

How to use your iPhone to upload your resume

What you need: You need your iPhone and your resume, cover letter, or portfolio. You'll need to have your resume, cover letter, or portfolio already completed. You'll also need to make sure those documents are in a Doc, Docx., or PDF file type. The process should take about 2 to 3 minutes.

1. Save your documents and email them to yourself

Make sure your documents are polished and ready for a prospective employer to see. Then, save them and email yourself a copy of each document. If you have a Mac or MacBook , you can AirDrop the documents directly to your iPhone.

2. Save the documents to the Files app

Once you've emailed yourself the documents, click on the attachment and press the share button located in the top right corner of the screen.

Also: How to use ChatGPT to build your resume

Then, scroll down and find "Save to Files."

3. Choose where you want your documents

The next screen will prompt you to choose where you want your documents to be within the Files app. I like to save my documents in the "On My iPhone" folder. Once you decide where you want your documents, hit the save button in the upper right corner.

4. Upload your documents to the application

When you find a job you want to apply for, you'll be asked to upload your resume. The website will then ask if you want to upload a photo or a file. Click "Choose File." After that, find your resume in your saved files. It will probably be at the top since it was your most recently saved document.

Then, click on your resume, and it will be uploaded to the application.

And that's it. You've uploaded your resume to an application without needing to complete the application on a computer. You can repeat the same steps for your cover letter or portfolio if the applications calls for those documents.

Now, fill out the rest of the application and wait to hear back from the employer. Good luck!

Question: Since leaving a job I have had for almost a decade, I have primarily conducted my job search online. I have used the same resume design since I started working 12 years ago. Should I update my resume design to be more effective? What do you recommend for building a modern resume? – Sandra

Answer: Updating your resume design can indeed be a wise move, especially if you've been using the same format for a long time. A fresh, modern design can help your resume stand out and leave a positive impression on recruiters and hiring managers. Here’s what I recommend for building a modern resume:

◾ Clean, professional layout: Opt for a layout that’s visually appealing and easy to read. Avoid cluttered designs and overly decorative elements that may distract from your content.

◾ Font selection: Stick to standard, easy-to-read fonts such as Arial, Calibri, or Times New Roman. These fonts are widely accepted and compatible with Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), ensuring your résumé is easily scannable by both humans and software.

◾ Incorporate keywords: Tailor your resume to each job application by incorporating industry-specific keywords and phrases relevant to the position. Many companies use ATS to screen résumés, so this will increase the likelihood of your resume being noticed.

◾ Organized sections: Structure your resume into clear sections, including Contact Information, Summary or Objective, Work Experience, Skills, Education and any additional relevant sections such as Certifications or Volunteer Work. This organization makes it easy for recruiters to quickly find the information they need.

◾ Summary/objective statement: Start your résumé with a summary that highlights your key qualifications and career goals. Keep it concise, focusing on what sets you apart and what you aim to achieve in your career.

◾ Accomplishment-oriented experience: When listing your work experience, focus on highlighting your accomplishments, rather than just listing job duties. Use quantifiable achievements whenever possible, to demonstrate your impact, such as increasing sales by a certain percentage or leading successful projects.

◾ Skills section: Dedicate a section to showcasing your key skills and competencies, including both technical skills and soft skills relevant to the job. This section provides recruiters with a quick overview of your capabilities.

◾ Proofreading: Before submitting your resume, thoroughly proofread it to ensure there are no grammatical errors, typos, or formatting issues. Consider having someone else review your resume for feedback and additional insights.

By updating your resuméewith a modern design and incorporating these key elements, you can increase your chances of making a strong impression in today’s competitive job market. Good luck with your job search!

Ghosting a job Is it bad to ghost low priority potential employers? Ask HR

I've been denied PTO requests on multiple occasions, which is becoming increasingly frustrating. Most of them are denied on the grounds of staffing needs. Do I have any recourse in fighting these denials? What can I do to ensure PTO approvals? – Chanette

You may indeed have some recourse in addressing these denied paid time off requests. Start by reviewing your company's PTO policy and procedures. Many employers have specific guidelines regarding PTO requests, including deadlines for submission and limits on the number of employees who can be on leave simultaneously, to ensure adequate staffing levels.

First, check if your PTO requests were made in accordance with company policy. If they were not, ensure that you adhere to the established procedures for future requests, to increase the likelihood of approval.

However, if you followed company policy and your requests were still denied, consider discussing the matter with your manager or the human resources team. Seek clarification on the reasons for the denials and inquire about potential strategies to improve the approval rate for your requests.

It's also essential to consider whether your state mandates sick leave, and if your company uses PTO to fulfill those requirements. If so, your employer may be obligated to approve leave requests that align with qualifying reasons for sick leave under the law. If you’re uncertain about your state’s sick leave requirements, consult your HR team for clarification.

Ultimately, unless there is a contractual agreement or policy stating otherwise, employers typically have discretion in managing PTO usage. However, by following company procedures and addressing your concerns with management or HR, you may increase the likelihood of having your PTO requests approved more frequently.

The ultimate guide to writing a career change resume.

Changing careers doesn’t have to be difficult. It all starts with a resume crafted to highlight your ... [+] transferrable skills.

Your resume is one of the most critical tools during a career transition. Crafted thoughtfully, a career change resume can effectively highlight transferable skills and experiences from your old career to the new one, showcasing you as a prime candidate for your dream job .

Career change resumes offer a different narrative of a person’s experience versus someone looking to advance in their current industry. Transferrable skills are the most important to highlight.

What Success Looks Like In A Career Change

A successful career change doesn’t necessarily mean starting over. It can involve leveraging existing skills in a new context or applying knowledge from one industry to another. Success is about finding a role where you can make a meaningful contribution, and it often requires a blend of determination and strategic planning. The story you tell so far in your career that paints you as the right person for the job is vital to your resume being seen by the hiring manager.

Step-By-Step Guide To Writing Your Career Change Resume

It’s a fine line between highlighting what makes you unique and ensuring your document aligns with industry expectations. Here’s how to do it right.

Identify Your Transferrable Skills

Before opening a Word document or choosing a resume template, the first step is to take stock of your skills. Begin by closely examining your previous roles and jotting down the skills they entailed. Try categorizing them into hard skills—like technical skills and software proficiencies—and soft skills—such as communication and leadership abilities.

Sony Is Making A Truly Terrible Mistake With Helldivers 2 Update Sony Reverses Course

‘baby reindeer’: stephen king writes essay praising netflix stalker series, apple iphone 16 new design and performance upgrades revealed in leak, brainstorm your narrative.

What is your career change story? Who’s the audience that will be listening to it? These are the overarching questions that will guide your resume writing process. You’ll want to combine your reasons for changing careers with your past experiences and future aspirations.

When crafting your career change narrative, consider these critical questions to create a cohesive and compelling story:

  • What motivated your career change? Reflect on the reasons behind your decision to shift careers. Was it a pursuit of passion, a need for a new challenge or an inevitable industry change affecting your previous role?
  • How do your past experiences contribute to your new direction? Evaluate how your previous roles have equipped you with unique skills and perspectives that will benefit your target industry or role.
  • What accomplishments in your career thus far can illustrate your suitability for this new path? Identify specific achievements that demonstrate your capability and readiness for the change.
  • How have you prepared for the transition? Consider any additional training, courses or self-led learning you’ve undertaken to bridge any skill gaps.
  • What are your long-term goals in this new career? Define what success looks like for you in this new field and how you plan to achieve it.

Choosing The Right Resume Format

The format of your resume is dependent on your career trajectory. A functional resume may be the best way to draw attention to your skills if you’re making a big career leap. A hybrid resume, which combines elements of both the chronological and functional formats, can also work well for career changers, as it allows you to detail your skills while still providing a job history.

Elements Of A Stand-Out Career Change Resume

The typical resume sections are still relevant: Skills, competencies, accolades, experience, volunteer work, education and training. For career changers, add a snapshot of who you are and what you bring to the table. Think of a snapshot as your elevator pitch. Instead of explaining what you are looking for, you highlight your top accolades, position and projects you’re currently working on; it shouldn’t be any longer than three sentences.

For example, “I’m Jane Doe, a marketing professional who brought the newest Target campaign to 100 million Instagram accounts. I’ve excelled in connecting influencers with top brands and have hosted over 150 brand activations.”

Make sure to include all the important elements on your resume to make you stand out. Having a short ... [+] story or narrative of who you are also helps.

Words and Phrases To Include In Resume

When it comes to the actual writing, it’s essential to use language that speaks to both your old and your new career. Choose words and phrases relevant to the job you’re applying for, but also aim to include industry-specific terms from your previous career to highlight the breadth of your experience.

  • Cross-functional expertise: Demonstrates the ability to work across various departments, enhancing team synergy and project outcomes.
  • Quick Learner: Indicates your capacity to rapidly acquire new knowledge and skills, reducing the learning curve in a new role.
  • Innovative Thinker: Shows your capability to think creatively and bring new ideas to the table, driving progress.
  • Versatile Professional: Indicates a broad skillset and flexibility, positioning you as a candidate capable of handling various responsibilities

Do’s And Don’ts Of Resume Etiquette

  • Do focus on your achievements and how they demonstrate your capabilities, not just the tasks you’ve performed.
  • Do quantify your accomplishments with numbers or percentages whenever possible to add weight to your claims.
  • Don’t include unrelated job experiences that don’t align with the position you’re targeting.
  • Don’t gloss over any employment gaps resulting from your career change. Instead, use these gaps to explain how you spent that time productively, such as through continuing education or volunteer work.

Your career change resume aims to get your foot in the door for an interview. Invest time in perfecting your career change resume, and you’ll find that employers will be more than willing to listen to the rest of your story.

How to make your iPhone go faster

I t’s hard to be patient with a slow iPhone , especially when using it for everything, from the calculator to getting directions on Maps. No one likes dealing with lag, buffering, or app freezing. Fortunately, there are a few ways you could speed up your iPhone.

Restart your iPhone

Let’s start with the classic “Did you try turning it off and on again?” It’s a classic for a reason, not just another tech myth. On a technical level, it helps refresh your iPhone’s RAM or working memory, which optimizes its overall performance. Since it’s probably the most straightforward hack, I’d recommend starting with this one.

There are slightly different ways to restart an iPhone based on its model. If you can’t get yours to restart, you might want to do a quick “how to restart [your iPhone model]” search. In case you’re unsure about your iPhone’s model, we have a guide for that , too.

Clear Safari Data

I’m sure we have encountered an ‘Accept Cookies’ popup. Even if you have no idea what that does, you’ve probably accepted tons of cookies by now. Refer to this helpful guide for a detailed and easy lesson on internet cookies. For the scope of this piece, all you need to know is that every time you click on ‘Accept Cookies’ on your browser, you’re putting a bunch of files on your device. These files pile up over time and end up slowing your phone.

If you frequently use Safari on your iPhone, you probably have a lot of passwords, cookies, tabs, and other login info in your Safari cache. It’s a good habit to clear that from time to time. Note that this will require re-entering login credentials or other personal info on some sites since clearing your cache will make your Safari brand new again.

To clear all Safari data, go to Settings on your iPhone and look up ‘Safari.’ Once in the Safari menu, scroll down until you see ‘Clear History and Website Data.’ It will ask you to pick a timeframe. Select ‘All history’ and then hit the red button at the bottom that says ‘Clear History.’

Free Up Space

Full storage is one of the leading causes of a sluggish iPhone. Go to Settings , scroll to General , and click on iPhone Storage from the menu. Doing so will present you with a stacked bar chart and an ordered list of your iPhone’s storage situation, clearly labeling how much space is occupied by which app.

It will also provide you with recommendations on how to free up space. Under Recommendations , click on Review Large Attachments to see the photos, videos, and attachments that are taking up the most space. When you see something you want to delete, swipe left and hit Delete .

There are other ways to free up space on your iPhone, but it ultimately depends on your priorities and your phone use. If you don’t always need all your photos and videos on your phone, you can back them up on iCloud and delete them from your iPhone. However, this would mean you would no longer be able to access them without the internet.

Similarly, if you don’t need all your iMessages, you can mass-delete them. I’ll review all the ways to clear storage on your iPhone in a separate, dedicated guide.

iOS updates often bring bug fixes that help improve your iPhone’s efficiency, so it’s a good idea to always be on the latest software update. You can do that by turning automatic updates on. Go to Settings > General > Software Update > Automatic Updates and turn on the toggle switch for all three options on the page. This will automatically download and install iOS software updates when your phone is connected to Wi-Fi, charging, and locked.

You can also manually update your iOS. A ‘Software Update Available’ notice on your Settings app under your Apple ID will tell you there’s a newer version you haven’t yet updated to. If you see that, scroll down to General > Software Update and click Download and Install to begin the update. If you don’t see that notice, you’re on the latest version.

Replace Battery

Another possible reason for a slow phone is a battery overused to the point of dysfunction. If your iPhone is old, its battery’s health may not be ideal. To see if that’s the case, go to Settings, look up Battery Health, and click on Battery Health & Charging from the open menu. Anything 80% and above is good, but Apple recommends replacing your battery when its health falls below that mark.

Turn Off Automatic Downloads and Background App Refresh

Apps on your iPhone tend to auto-update. While this is helpful, it could become overwhelming for your phone, especially if you have many apps on it. Multiple background app refreshes also take place without you knowing. Again, this is a helpful feature, but it could lead to a considerable drop in your phone’s efficiency if you have many apps that constantly refresh and update.

Go to Settings > App Store and turn off all three toggle switches under ‘Automatic Downloads.’ These are App Downloads, App Updates, and In-App Content. Then, go to General > Background App Refresh > Background App Refresh (again) and choose Off . Doing both will ensure no power-hungry apps are running in the background. If you’d like an app updated, you can constantly manually update it in the App Store.

No, closing your background apps won’t help.

I know; I felt as deceived as you did when Gizmodo Maxwell Zeff told us that closing background apps doesn’t do anything and that I have been making my poor little thumb do all that labor for years for nothing. It’s just a tech myth that originated years ago on Apple’s community forum and Stack Overflow and has been perpetuated ever since (because it sounds like it should work!). But yeah, doing that won’t affect either performance or battery.

Are some of your apps still running slow?

Are you sure it’s your phone and not your network? People often mistake a slow connection for a slow phone. Especially if you’re experiencing lag on apps that require an internet connection, it might just be your internet that needs fixing.

To quickly check this, look up ‘speed test’ on your browser. You’ll see an ‘Internet speed test’ pop-up. Hit the blue button that says ‘run speed test.’ In around 30 seconds, you’ll get precise stats on your download and upload speeds and a comment on your internet performance.

I just ran mine, and it said, “Your Internet connection is very fast. It should be able to handle multiple devices streaming HD videos, video conferencing, and gaming at the same time.” So, if my iPhone starts acting up, I’d know it’s not my internet.

How to Use Your iPhone or Android Phone to Sign Documents

Your phone has built-in tools that make it easy to quickly sign a document.

how to make a resume on an iphone

Android phones and iPhones have built-in software options for signing documents.

When you receive an important document that just needs your signature, you can easily take care of that using your phone. Whether you use an iPhone or an Android phone, both include built-in options for adding a quick signature, saving a new copy and sending it off to whomever you need.

While these tools work in a pinch, I wouldn't recommend them if you're marking up a more in-depth document that requires multiple signatures and filling out many text boxes. A more advanced signing tool like DocuSign or Microsoft 365 is better optimized, and frankly, if you're signing something like an apartment lease, you might want to break out a bigger screen like a computer or tablet.

Read more: Best Phone to Buy in 2024

Most documents that need your signature are much shorter and simpler, so if you're dealing with one of those, then Apple's Markup tool and the Google Drive app each include a quick way to get your documents filled out and on their way.

17 Hidden iOS 17 Features You Should Definitely Know About

how to make a resume on an iphone

Sign with Google Drive on Android or iPhone

The Google Drive app -- included on all Android phones and can be downloaded onto an iPhone -- includes markup tools that make it easy to sign a document.

When using Google Drive on Android, you'll first need to open the PDF that you want to sign.

When it's open, depending on the file, you'll either get an Edit option marked with a pencil or an Annotate option marked by a pen with squiggly lines. If you have the Edit option, you can then select Form Filling in order to enter your additional information. If you have only the Annotate option, you can tap it to bring up a pen tool, and you can use that to give a quick signature to your document.

Motorola Edge phone with a signature added to a document

This signature was added using the annotation tool on the Android version of Google Drive.

Unfortunately, Google Drive doesn't consistently detect PDFs that should get the Form Filling option, and if you do need to edit the document to include plain text, you may want to use a more robust alternative service instead. If the above steps did accomplish what you need for your document, you can then tap Save in the top right to save those changes. If you want to make a separate copy with these changes, you can tap the More button marked by three vertical dots and tap Save as .

The iPhone version of Google Drive has less flexibility. After opening a PDF, you'll see a Fill out form option at the bottom indicating whether Google Drive can fill out the form. Otherwise, there's no annotation option to fall back on. Apple has its own built-in tool for signing a document, which can be used instead.

apple-iphone-files-app-signature-menu

Apple's Markup tool can be used to add signatures and text to documents.

Sign with Apple's Markup tool on iPhone

Apple's Markup tool allows for annotating documents and photos with text, images, emojis and signatures. You can access this tool from across iOS, either directly while viewing a PDF or from Apple's Share menu.

You'll first want to open up the PDF that you want to sign -- whether that PDF is from an email attachment or from a website. Depending on the app you are using to view it, you might already see the Markup tool on the bottom-right corner of the screen, represented by a pen tip within a circle. If you don't, tap the  Share icon marked by a square with an upward-facing arrow, and in the pop-up menu scroll up to find and tap Markup .

After Markup is turned on, you'll first get the option to scribble directly onto the document using a variety of pen tools -- but don't use those to sign the document. Instead, tap the  Signature icon marked by a rectangle with a pencil, which will likely be in the top row of the Markup menu. This will then bring up a + icon into the bottom-right of the screen, and after tapping that you'll either select Add Text Form Box or Add Signature . The former is good for typing in print text, while the latter is for handwriting signatures.

Adding a text box into a document in Apple's Files app.

Text boxes can be moved and resized in the document.

If selecting to add a text box, you'll first be able to move the text box by dragging and resizing it as needed. Then you can tap into the text box to bring up the keyboard for entering text. When you are finished, you can tap outside of the text box to make the keyboard disappear and then tap Done in the top-right to save those changes.

If you are adding a signature, you'll first use the pop-up menu to sign your name using a finger. That signature can be saved and used again for future documents. After setting up that signature, you can tap Done to move it into a text box in the document. You can then use your finger to drag, drop and resize as needed.

Whether you are using the text box option or the signature option, you can make additional adjustments with each box by tapping an option icon alongside each box, marked by three dots ( ... ). This pop-up will let you Cut, Copy, Duplicate or Delete the box as needed.

When you are done making your adjustments, you can either select Done to save your changes or use the Share icon to send the amended document to another app like your email or cloud storage.
